In this work, the foam SiC ceramics were prepared by conventional and microwave sintering methods at 800 °C combined with organic template impregnation method. The microstructure, crystal structure, and mechanical properties of the samples were evaluated. Compared with conventional sintering, microwave sintering has obvious advantages such as more uniform element distribution, shorter sintering time, and better mechanical properties. Its bending strength and impact resistance reach 2.28 MPa and 4.9 kJ/m2, respectively. The dielectric constant and reflection loss of the samples were tested, and the samples sintered by microwave between room temperature and 500 °C showed better dielectric properties; as well as better microwave absorption performance at frequencies of 2-18GHz. The mechanism of microwave sintering has been elucidated, and the heating method of microwave from inside to outside is an important reason for the excellent mechanical and absorbing properties of materials.
