The XI International Congress “Topical issues of forensic medicine and expert practice — 2024” dedicated to the memory of Professor Vladimir A. Klevno

In Moscow, on the basis of the Moscow Regional Research Institute named after M.F. Vladimirsky, the annual XI International Congress “Current Issues of Forensic Medicine and Expert Practice - 2024” was held on April 17–18, 2024. It was dedicated to the memory of Professor Vladimir Aleksandrovich Klevno, a talented scientist, a prominent domestic forensic physician, the first head of the Department of Forensic Medicine of MONIKI, one of the members of the Council of the National Medical Chamber, President of the Association of Forensic Experts, editor-in-chief of Forensic Medicine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, who was the ideological inspirer and organizer of this congress. For several decades V.A. Klevno was one of the country’s leading specialists in the field of forensic medicine, a major scientist and organizer of forensic science and expert practice, who made an invaluable contribution to the development of domestic forensic activity. The congress continued the proud tradition of bringing together experts, researchers, and professionals to further develop collaboration and exchange of cutting-edge research and the latest developments in the fields of forensic medicine, pathological anatomy, and legal practice. This international congress aimed to expand the knowledge of specialists in the fields of forensic medicine, pathological anatomy, and healthcare organization. The conference was distinguished by a rich program, a variety of new formats, and effective working tools that were used by the organizers this year. In particular, special projects were launched – thematic video master classes and the work of the sections “Non-state forensic activity” and “Histological studies in pathoanatomical and forensic medical expert practice.” Within the framework of the congress, a joint session of the Association of Forensic Experts and the Interregional Thanatoradiological Society “Radiation diagnostics in pathoanatomical and forensic medical expert practice” was also held. The article is devoted to an overview of the most striking and memorable events of the event.

The influence of supervisory support on clinical learning as experienced by Czech Nursing and health professional students in the context of patient safety events: A qualitative study

AimTo explore the influence of supervisory and mentoring relationships on the clinical learning experiences of Czech Nursing and health professional students in the context of patient safety events BackgroundClinical experience is integral to healthcare education, shaping skills, behaviours, values and professional identity. During clinical placements, students may encounter memorable patient safety events and experience varied reactions from mentors/supervisors/others. Some research has highlighted challenges faced by students on clinical placement. Few studies involve multiple professions, most emanating from Western Europe, the UK, the USA and Australia with little relating to central European countries such as the Czech Republic. DesignTwo stage interpretivist qualitative study based in social constructionism MethodsConvenience sample across 13 undergraduate and 18 postgraduate health professions courses. Stage 1 (2022): using SLIPPS Learning Event Recording Tool translated into Czech. 20 students’ (Midwifery=11, Nursing=1, Paramedic=1, Occupational therapy =7) submitted 21 patient safety learning event narratives. Stage 2 (2022): Focus group with 2 nursing and nine midwifery students. Phased thematic analysis involving multiple researchers. ResultsThree themes illustrate the circumstances and impact of placement mentoring/supervision experiences, conceptualised as: ‘Clinical and Emotional Companionship’, ‘Clinical and Emotional Abandonment’ and ‘Sense of agency - Professional and personal growth’. ‘Companionship’ reflected the students’ feelings of being welcomed, respected, heard, trusted and supported. Conversely ‘abandonment’ emerged from feelings of being unheard, vulnerable, humiliated, afraid, leaving students feeling abandoned, lonely and ‘useless’. Notwithstanding these conditions, students showed the ability to identify patient safety issues with agency evident in reactions such as stepping-in to try to ameliorate a situation, rather than speaking-up. Professional and personal growth was also apparent in their narratives and a conceptual diagram illustrates the students’ learning journeys in a patient safety context. ConclusionThe findings and new conceptualisations around abandonment and companionship emerging from this study expand the evidence base regarding the profound impact of clinical experience and mentorship/supervision on learning and students’ emotional wellbeing. A sense of companionship appears to play a buffering role even in challenging circumstances of involvement in or witnessing compromised patients’ safety. Allowing students a sense of belonging, to vent, grow, feel supported and safe to ask/learn - contributing to ‘emotional safety for learning’, promotes students’ behaviour that may prevent/minimize hazards or ameliorate the aftermath. However, we must not simply blame mentors/supervisors, staff, or the students themselves- they are simply part of a much larger complex environment of professional education encompassing hidden curriculums, power dynamics and professional socialisation.

Batyrs as a marker of the cultural landscape: a philosophical analysis

n the reviving process of history and culture of modern Kazakhstan, it is becoming increasingly common to install monuments to heroes who have become a symbol of statehood and patriotism. The establishment of monuments and memorials is one of the tools for the development of national identity. The research of mon-uments to heroes, understanding and interpretation of their essence and meaning allows to comprehend the contemporary Kazakh worldview and philosophy. The article provides a philosophical analysis of the practic-es of regional memorialization of local heroes (batyrs). The research includes case analyses of Kazakh batyrs as Zholan Toleu-uly, Ketbuqa batyr, Tolek batyr, Yerden Sansyzbay-uly, Yeset Koki-uly, Dauymshar batyr, Zhidebay batyr and Derbisaly Aidabol-uly. The results of field research conducted in the South Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Aktobe and Ulytau regions allowed to study the location of monuments and the features of their memorialization. The research methodology used visual analysis and interviews with local residents to collect information about memorable events. The article applied field research and interviews with local residents. The description of monuments in the cultural landscape of the regions presented in the article concludes that the local heroes of the pre-Soviet period contribute the development of national identity and patriotism in modern Kazakhstan. The authors compiled a register of local monuments to batyrs established by descendants and native authorities that complements the historical picture and allows for a more comprehensive under-standing of the processes of memorialization of batyrs in the regions of the country.

Again about Irkutsk toponymy

In Irkutsk, toponymy has been a purely theoretical science for a long time – names have been rarely given to new streets. However, street names reflect the history of the city, the memory of the people who inhabited it, the sights and ideological preferences. When we give names to the streets, we form a legacy for our descendants. Toponyms should be considered as a historical monument that records all the features of the city’s life, from the relief to occupations of residents, from important objects to memorable events. “Toponymic restoration” is not an attempt at “white revenge”. This is the connection of times, this is the face of our city, which should not for the thousandth time repeat the names of streets in any Russian settlement, which have no deep connection with the territory.

This study offers a holistic perspective on the synergy between special event management, the automotive sector, and MICE, providing valuable insights for event professionals and organizations seeking to excel in the art of creating memorable and impactful events.

Exploring the metamnemonic and phenomenal differences between transitional and mundane events.

In two experiments, we systematically investigated the reasons why people retained certain autobiographical events in their memory, as well as the properties of those events and their predicted memorability. The first experiment used three methods (word-cued, free-recalled, and "memorable, interesting, and/or important") to retrieve event memories, and examined memories from three different time-frames: very recent (within past 7 days), recent (past 2 weeks and 6 months), and older events (at least one year). In addition, data were also collected for an important transitional event recently experienced by all participants ("starting university"). The results revealed that people had access to three types of event memories: memories for life transitions, memories for older distinctive events, and memories for recent mundane events. Participants reported remembering events that were distinctive, first-time experiences, emotionally impactful, or simply because they were recent. They also predicted that older events would be more resistant to forgetting than very recent and recent events. The second experiment examined participants' memorable and forgettable events, and found that memorable events tended to be older, while forgettable events were more likely to be recent. These findings suggested that many retrievable memorable autobiographical memories were neither important nor transitional in nature. The studies contribute to our understanding of people's metamnemonic knowledge about their autobiographical memories.

Emotional arousal lingers in time to bind discrete episodes in memory

ABSTRACT Temporal stability and change in neutral contexts can transform continuous experiences into distinct and memorable events. However, less is known about how shifting emotional states influence these memory processes, despite ample evidence that emotion impacts non-temporal aspects of memory. Here, we examined if emotional stimuli influence temporal memory for recent event sequences. Participants encoded lists of neutral images while listening to auditory tones. At regular intervals within each list, participants heard emotional positive, negative, or neutral sounds, which served as “emotional event boundaries” that divided each sequence into discrete events. Temporal order memory was tested for neutral item pairs that either spanned an emotional sound or were encountered within the same auditory event. Encountering a highly arousing event boundary led to faster response times for items encoded within the next event. Critically, we found that highly arousing sounds had different effects on binding ongoing versus ensuing sequential representations in memory. Specifically, highly arousing sounds were significantly more likely to enhance temporal order memory for ensuing information compared to information that spanned those boundaries, especially for boundaries with negative valence. These findings suggest that within aversive emotional contexts, fluctuations in arousal help shape the temporal organisation of events in memory.

The role of the art of creating a comfortable festive landscape and architectural environment of a multinational city in the formation of a creative personality of young people

International holidays such as New Year, Christmas, Epiphany, and in Russia, the Russian Old New Year have historically developed as folk traditions with history, customs, rituals, and symbols of celebration filled with specific spirituality. All these celebrations commonly take place in houses and nature with a festive landscape and a green beauty, a Christmas tree and reservoirs filled with symbolic images of traditional holiday heroes. Since childhood, people have been participating in such dear and memorable events related to the history of family and loved ones. The landscape and architectural space of a solemnly decorated city should take into account the cultural, psychological, and historical part of the positive motivations of residents and visitors. Designers and specialists who creatively designed the city's festive landscape and architectural territory should be able to connect the historical, religious, symbolic, psychological, and social foundations of such a multinational city as Rostov-on-Don. For young people, these holidays represent another opportunity to unite with other participants in understanding the joyful time and the community of people around them.

Dynamic emotional states shape the episodic structure of memory

Human emotions fluctuate over time. However, it is unclear how these shifting emotional states influence the organization of episodic memory. Here, we examine how emotion dynamics transform experiences into memorable events. Using custom musical pieces and a dynamic emotion-tracking tool to elicit and measure temporal fluctuations in felt valence and arousal, our results demonstrate that memory is organized around emotional states. While listening to music, fluctuations between different emotional valences bias temporal encoding process toward memory integration or separation. Whereas a large absolute or negative shift in valence helps segment memories into episodes, a positive emotional shift binds sequential representations together. Both discrete and dynamic shifts in music-evoked valence and arousal also enhance delayed item and temporal source memory for concurrent neutral items, signaling the beginning of new emotional events. These findings are in line with the idea that the rise and fall of emotions can sculpt unfolding experiences into memories of meaningful events.

Effect of attentive listening robot on pleasure and arousal change in psychiatric daycare

In this paper, we investigate the usefulness of an attentive-listening robot in psychiatric daycare, an outpatient treatment program for the rehabilitation of psychiatric disorders. The robot was developed based on counseling techniques, such as repeating words that the user has said. It can also generate backchannels as a listening behavior during user utterance. Conversation experiments have been conducted to evaluate whether the robot can provide effective activities in this setting. The robot attentively listened to 18 daycare attendees talking about their recent memorable events for up to 3 min. The results showed that the conversation increased self-rated arousal. The impressions of the robot showed that talking with the robot was more conversable than with strangers and more useful as a talking partner than a friend. The subjects also had a positive impression about whether they would keep the robot in their homes. A linear regression analysis indicates that the frequency of the robot's assessment responses and backchannels positively affect pleasure improvement. The findings may pave the way for utilizing this kind of robots that people can talk to easily without hesitation or excessive consideration.

RESEARCH ON TYPES OF EVENT TOURISM AND THEIR CLASSIFICATION

Event tourism is one of the most dynamically developing sectors in the tourism industry, representing a distinct form of travel where participation in or observation of various events and celebrations becomes the primary motivation. Tourists choose specific destinations and events to gain unique experiences, immerse themselves in the event atmosphere, and engage with its cultural context. The classification of event tourism types is an essential aspect for understanding the diversity of this tourism form and developing effective strategies for managing tourism resources. It allows for the systematic categorization of different events, as well as identifying their unique characteristics and impact on the tourism industry and socio-cultural environment. In this article provide an overview and classification of event tourism types based on several factors. First of all, we onsidered the classification based on the nature of events. This made it possible to single among them such as festivals, cultural, musical, festival in film industry, sports competitions and others. Then we foused in benefits of classifycing event tourism, the study of which help to better understand the preferences and interests of tourists, determine the potential to attract and mecttheir needs helps tourism organizations and goverments develop strategies for promoting planning and organizing event tourism. This in turn, makes it possible to create unique and memorable events, attracts more tourists, stimulates economic development, and preserves cultural and natural heritage.

Unfinished Business

How can microsocial rituals connected to a specific site be used as interaction templates for artistic purposes? And how can we distort such rituals artistically in order to make them memorable events? As artists, we regard distortion as the process that gives character and distinction to things and situations, as well as something that confuses and enriches information and interpretation. Through examples emerging from the operatic production Chronos’ Bank of Memories (2019–2022), set in empty shop stores with interacting visitors, we have recalled and fleshed out issues of rituality with distorted proportions. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, its production was interrupted and later on revived, which affected the work. This exposition covers aspects of both our artistic practice in general and this particular opera’s tendency to encompass distorted rituals. Commentary texts, images, and audio/video clips are arranged into an introduction and then three thematic strands in order to offer a reasoned overview of our work process.

An Adventure into the World of Soft Matter

Soft matter is a field of condensed matter physics that began to develop in France in the 1970s under the impulse of Pierre-Gilles de Gennes. I had the chance to participate in this adventure, and I describe in this article some of the memorable events. Soft matter is not only linked to physics but also to chemistry and biology, and working in this multidisciplinary field is quite stimulating. My particular expertise deals with liquid surfaces, an area that considerably expanded with the advent of miniaturization, i.e., when surfaces begin to matter. I was able to benefit from the French and European network systems, as well as from many interactions with young students and industrial partners. I show how these favorable conditions contributed to successes in my research.

LITTLE MEMORY EDITORS LIVING INSIDE YOUR BRAIN.

We interact with the world continuously. However, memories of our experiences are stored as individual events. For example, when we go on a road trip, we do not remember what happens second by second. Instead, we remember only a few special moments or events from a trip, such as dancing around the campfire. Our brains constantly extract memorable events while we interact with the world, and we organize those events based on their relevance. This process is like grouping road trip photos under different folders on the computer, so we can efficiently and accurately retrieve those memories in the future. How does the brain create these memorable events? In this article, you will learn about two groups of neurons inside the brain that help achieve this remarkable feat. You will also learn about how the activation of these neurons shapes the formation and retrieval of memories.

OPINION: History and Perspectives of ASICs

The author recalls several particularly memorable events during his scientific career that led to the discovery of acid-sensing ion channels and ionotropic purinergic receptors. The readers learn of the events of 1975 when the first intracellular perfusion of the neuronal soma has been achieved- the event that led to the precise measurement of the calcium currents through the neuronal plasma membrane. Next, 1980 brings us to the functional discovery of the neuronal proton receptors found in mammalian sensory neurons. The molecular identity of these receptors was discovered in the lab of Dr. M. Lazdunsky and they were named acid-sensing ion channels or ASICs. Now it is clear that every mammalian neuron expresses at least one member of the ASICs family. And yet, ASICs are known for their functional diversity which is currently being studied extensively due to their prominence as pharmacological targets. Eventually, readers learn of the events of 1983 and the functional discovery of ionotropic purinergic receptors, and their molecular identification in the lab of Dr. R.A. North that coined the name of P2X ionotropic receptors.

ПАТРИОТИЧЕСКОЕ ВОСПИТАНИЕ СТУДЕНЧЕСКОЙ МОЛОДЕЖИ: СОЦИОЛОГИЧЕСКИЙ АНАЛИЗ

The article touches upon an important problem for modern Russian society - the patriotic education of student youth. Solving this issue, it is necessary to consider this area, taking into account various aspects at this stage of the formation of the state, namely: the level of patriotism and patriotic feelings among the students, the main sources of knowledge about their homeland, the visualization of its image by young people, identifying the most memorable events that make more young people are proud of their country. The purpose of the work is to empirically substantiate the need for patriotic education of modern student youth as an important postulate of the spiritual revival of the nation. The term "patriotism" is mentioned in many fundamental sciences, in connection with which each scientist interprets it in his own way. However, any statement is based on the following basis - pride in one's Motherland, its success in the political arena, as well as victories in the sports and scientific fields, active citizenship, selflessness and devotion to one's state in the event of a danger that has arisen for it, conscious and all-consuming love to its people, its cultural characteristics and traditions. The proof of the above is the results of a sociological study conducted at the Department of Sociology and Social Technologies of the Central Russian Institute of Management - a branch of the RANEPA on the topic "Patriotic education of youth". This study covered such categories as "patriotism", "patriotic education", "image of the Motherland", "national spirit", "historical memory", "national identity". It is summarized that the patriotic education of student youth consists of various components, but its conscious position and the knowledge about the Motherland that were laid and continue to be in its mind at various stages of personality development are paramount.

In the Depths: Synergies Between the Doctoral Experience and Life in Hong Kong

The process of gaining a PhD does not occur in isolation; it is situated within and against the contexts doctoral students find themselves in at any given time. Through sharing three diary entries penned in the depths of my PhD in Hong Kong in 2017, I highlight the interconnections between particularly memorable events and junctures within my doctoral journey. In so doing, I reveal the importance of journaling for identifying the echoes between personal and graduate school experiences to understand the complex terrain of doctoral life.
