Efektivitas Model Pembelajaran Kooperatif dan Motivasi Terhadap Pemahaman Konsep Matematika

<em>This experiment is to know the understanding of the mathematical concept students are reviewed from a model of cooperative learning and motivational learning. The research Model uses a 2 x 2 factorial design. The research sample is 60 Grade 9 students from first junior high school, South Jakarta academic year 2018--2019. The two-way Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used in this study. The effectiveness of the learning management is determined by the calculation of effect size, while the results of the study are as follows: There is a influence of cooperative learning model interaction and motivation to learn to understand mathematical concepts, Influence of cooperative learning model to understand the concept of mathematics, the influence of motivation to learn to understand the concept of mathematics, and learning model of cooperative learning the type of Student Teams Achievement Devision (STAD) has High effectiveness towards understanding students ' mathematical concepts. With the conclusion that understanding the concept of mathematics in junior high school is influenced by the use of cooperative variation and learning motivation of students. This research is expected to be beneficial for further research to improve the mastery of students ' mathematical concepts.</em>

IMPROVING MATHEMATICAL TEACHERS COMPETENCY 21TH THROUGH WORKSHOP DEVELOPMENT OF MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIC PROBLEMS BASED ON HIGH ORDER THINKING SKILLS IN SMP SOLOK SELATAN DISTRICT

The aim of study to improve competency junior high school mathematics teachers in Solok Selatan district in compiling Olympiad questions mathematics and solving problems based on high order thinking skills (HOTS). The target audience for community service is mathematics teachers incorporated in the Subject Mathematics Teacher's Consultation (MGMP) Mathematics in Solok Selatan. The method used in the service includes the presentation of material by the team community service then carried out the pre test and post test, the design of the question HOTS, discussion and question and answer sessions at the math Olympiad. Conclusions of this research is: There is a positive increase in teacher competency after being given training in compiling math Olympiad questions that the posttest results are better than the results pretest in the training to improve the competency of mathematics teachers in compiling the questions Mathematical Olympiad based on high order thinking skills of SMPN in Solok Selatan District

Pengembangan Lembaran Kerja Matematika SMP Berbasis Pendekatan Metakognisi Untuk Meningkatkan Higher Order Thinking Skill Peserta Didik

The purpose of this study is to produce a valid, practical and effective Junior High School Mathematics worksheet based on the metacognition approach to improve students' HOTS. This research is a development research using Plomp model with three stages, namely the preliminary investigation, prototyping stage, and assessment phase. The instruments used were questionnaires and tests. The results of this study is metacognition-based worksheet which is a) valid from the aspect of content, construct, language, and graphic, b) practical from the aspect of usage, time and readability, and c) effective from the aspect of improving the HOTS ability of students.

Analysis of the junior high school mathematics textbook in Indonesia based on the content of higher order thinking skills

High-order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are strategic skills that individuals must have in order to succeed in life. Textbooks are important tools to facilitate the development of these skills in the teaching and learning activities. This literature study is intended to analyze the content of HOTS which includes analytical, evaluation and creation skills in junior high school mathematics textbooks in Indonesia. The analysis focused on the HOTS content in some parts of this book, namely the explanation of concepts, example problem and solution and assignment or exercise problem. The results of qualitative data analysis indicate that the HOTS content category in this book for analytical skills is categorized as good, while evaluation skills and creative skills still need to be enriched. Based on the results of the analysis, this article also presents enrichment alternatives to the HOTS content in this book so that it can be used adequately to develop HOTS in the mathematics teaching and learning.

Pemanfaatan Program Microsoft Mathematic Dan Geogebra Untuk Peningkatan Mutu Guru Matematika Tingkat SMP Di Kabupaten Bantaeng Sulawesi Selatan

outcomes generated from this activity are as follows: 1) Enhance the ability of Partners in developing existing technology, especially computers in optimizing learning in the classroom through the Geogebra and Microsoft Mathematic programs. Middle School Mathematics Teachers in Bantaeng District are trained in making teaching materials, especially computer-based self-learning modules that are not only material and questions but must be able to develop children's abilities in constructing the concept of the material being taught. The Geogebra and Microsoft Mathematic programs are application programs that can be utilized in dealing with these problems; 2) Training for teachers who are members of the Bantaeng District Junior High School Mathematics Teacher (MGMP). The training material was in the form of a guidebook for the use of the Geogebra program and the Microsoft Mathematics and its use in mathematics learning developed by the Mathematics Department FMIPA UNHAS dedication team. The teaching materials will be used in the training as an initial stage for the teachers to recognize and master the Geogebra and Microsoft Mathematics programs.

ANALISIS PROBLEMATIKA PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA DI SEKOLAH MENENGAH PERTAMA DAN SOLUSI ALTERNATIFNYA

The study was conducted aimed at finding out the problems in learning mathematics in junior high schools, especially at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu with alternative solutions. The method used in this study is a qualitative research approach. The research subjects were two students from class IX-1 and IX-6 each representing students from homogeneous and heterogeneous classes, as well as two math teachers at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu who each taught in homogeneous and heterogeneous classes . Analysis of the data used in this study is analysis of observations, questionnaire results and interview transcripts. Based on the results of the research, it was found that the problem of mathematics learning in SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu is 1) poor mathematical mastery; 2) learning motivation that is not good; 3) the use of instructional media and 4) the application of learning methods. An alternative solution to these problems is the need for scaffolding when students experience difficulties, there is a personal approach to students, it is necessary to use more interesting learning media, for example macromedia flash and educational games, the application of learning methods tailored to the characteristics of good students for homogeneous and heterogeneous classes.

Practices, Challenges and Perceived Influence of Classroom Assessment on Mathematics Instruction

Assessment is a powerful tool for raising the standards of teaching and learning of mathematics at the junior high school level. This study therefore explored the perceived influence of assessment on the teaching and learning of mathematics in junior high schools of OLA Circuit in Cape Coast Metropolitan area. The research design used for the study is a concurrent triangulation mixed method design. A simple random sampling technique was used to select four (4) public junior high schools out of eight (8) schools in the circuit. A multi-stage sampling procedure was employed to select the schools and participants for the study. A total of 134 participants comprising 15 teachers and 119 students participated in the study. The data for the study were mainly collected through questionnaires and interviews. Findings of the study revealed that class exercise, homework, and trial work were the most common mode of assessment used by teachers during mathematics instruction. Again, the study discovered that teachers faced some challenges in the implementation of classroom assessment. The study therefore makes certain recommendations likely to improve on the quality of assessment practices in mathematics classrooms in the focal schools.

PENINGKATAN KOMPETENSI GURU PEMBINA OLIMPIADE MATEMATIKA SISWA SEKOLAH MENENGAH PERTAMA KABUPATEN MADIUN

The objective of this research is to describe the improvement of the competence of Olympic workshop participants in problem-solving of mathematics Olympiad for mathematics teachers of Junior High Schools in the Madiun Regency by using the qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects of this research were 66 participants of junior high school mathematics teachers workshop organized by Mathematics teachers in each junior high school or MGMP in collaboration with the Depatment of Education and Culture of Madiun Regency. The data collection were carried out with a written test in the description form consisting the results of pre-test, post-test, practice questions, presentations from each group and observation results during the workshop. The results indicated that the mathematics Olympiad workshop activities for Junior High School mathematics teachers in Madiun Regency could increase the understanding of workshop participants in solving mathematics Olympiad questions. This improvement could be seen from the answers of practice questions as well as from the presentations session whereas the teachers could clearly describe several topics such as an algebraic, number theory, geometry, combinatorics, and statistics. However, an advanced Olympics workshops are still needed to help the teachers of Junior High School mathematics Olympiad in Madiun Regency.

The Implementation of K-Means Algorithm for Cluster Majoring to New Students in SMKN 2 of South Tangerang

The diversity of majors in vocational schools of SMKN 2 South Tangerang makes some students confuse of their choices. Determination of majors is important because it will affect the academic activities of students. The purpose of the right majoring is so that students can learn optimally, and be able to equip themselves with competency skills according to their talents, interests and abilities when entering the workforce. This study applies the Clustering Method with the K-means Algorithm, to help students determine their majors, also helps the school in clustering majors. Determination of these majors is based on 320 student data with attributes of the National Examination during Junior High School (Mathematics, English, Indonesian, and Science), Registration Pathways, and Gender. Calculations that occur as many as 7 iterations with the K-Means Clustering Method, with the final centroid: C1 = 1.55; 4.08; 3.65; 4.06; 3.36; 1.93. C1 represents the Industrial Electronics Engineering Major, with the results of 49 students. C2 = 1; 3.69; 3.26; 2.55; 3.09; 1.96. C2 represents Light Vehicle Engineering majors, with 95 students. C3 = 1,98; 4,09; 3,60; 2,79; 3,083; 1,94. C3 = 1.98; 4.09; 3.60; 2.79; 3,083; 1.94. C3 represents the Accounting major, with 96 students. C4 = 1.18; 3.90; 3.39; 2.18; 2.02; 1.93. C4 represents the Multimedia major, with a total of 44 students And C5 = 1,055; 3.72; 2; 2,389; 2.86; 1.97. C5 represents the Motorcycle Business Engineering major with 36 students.

The potential effects on junior high school mathematics learning: The reading texts for learning stage of the school literacy movement

This study discusses the result of the field test stage of reading texts development for reading activities in School Literacy Movement in mathematics learning with futsal context. This study is development research with design research method and development studies as its type. The evaluations at the prototyping stage use the formative study with self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one, small group, and field test as its phases. The subjects were 7th-grade students at a junior high school in Karawang. The data were collected using documentation, questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The calculation of the effect size is 2,895 and categorized as high. Based on this result, it shows that the reading texts for the learning stage of the School Literacy Movement have potential effect for students in mathematics learning.

Analysis of junior high school national examination year 2014 to 2017 on facilitating students’ high order thinking skill

One of the thinking skills of students who are being talked about by various groups in the general public and education is higher order thinking skills (HOTS). In Bloom’s taxonomy, HOTS is a student’s ability to answer questions with a level of analyzing, evaluating, and creating. One form of test that is presented by the implementation standard of assessment in Indonesia is the National Examination. Regarding this matter, the analysis of HOTS content on the national examination tool is an urgent matter to do. This study aims to determine the contents of HOTS in the National Examination of Junior High School Mathematics subjects in 2014 to 2017. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Data was collected with non-tests given to several experts. Sources of data obtained by researchers came from their own researchers, 2 mathematics teachers, and 3 mathematics lecturers. In the validity of the data and decision making, it is obtained from the quantity of opinions from the six experts. The results showed that the HOTS items from 2014 to 2017 were different. The number of HOTS items in the National Examination from 2014 to 2017 were 12, 16, 18 and 10. However, from the HOTS items in 2014 to 2017 there were no questions about type C6, namely creating.

Analysis of Learning Model and Mathematical Material to Build Students’ Character through Mathematics Learning

The mathematics that has been taught from primary school to high school with a lot more time studying math in the classroom can be a passage to build students’ character. Students’ character building is not easy; therefore, it requires a planned, continuous, and systematic effort in learning mathematics. Lesson plans involving students’ character building must be purposefully designed (by design). It cannot be accidentally happened (by chance). The use of innovative learning models in learning mathematics needs to be analyzed to be able to build students’ character. This study aims to describe the relationship between learning models, mathematical material, and student character that is built through mathematics in junior high schools. This study employed a descriptive research method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through documentation, interview, and observation techniques. Data analysis techniques followed three steps, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the analysis offered an overview of students’ character that can be formed by applying innovative learning models in learning mathematics. Furthermore, the results of the analysis will be used in developing the steps (syntax) in learning mathematics.

A Preliminary Study of Brain-Based Learning (BBL) and Intrapersonal Intelligence in Junior High School Mathematics Learning

The purpose of this study is to describe junior high school mathematics learning activities and describe the suitability of the Brain-Based Learning (BBL) learning strategy which focuses on intrapersonal intelligence in junior high school mathematics learning. The research is descriptive and qualitative. The data were collected through documentation studies, observations, and interviews with teachers and students. Teachers and students of junior high school SMP Assahil Lampung Timur Indonesia were involved in this research. The results showed that teachers only used expository learning strategies in learning activities and unsatisfactory learning outcomes. The teachers were never selecting learning strategies which focus on students' internal factors to be applied in learning. Based on these, taking into account the characteristics of learning strategies, students and junior high school mathematics material, it can be assumed that the Brain-Based Learning (BBL) learning strategy by focusing on students' intrapersonal intelligence is appropriate to be applied in junior high school mathematics learning and to enhance student’s learning outcomes.

Pre-Service Teachers’ Skills in Analyzing the Mathematics Competency Based on Bloom Taxonomy

Professional teachers need to be skilled in planning their lesson. One of the activities to plan the lesson is analyzing the competence and teaching material demanded by the curriculum. This article aims to describe the Indonesian pre-service mathematics teachers’ skills in analyzing junior high school mathematics competence. The analysis is important to prepare the appropriate material for their students. This is qualitative research involving 26 pre-service teachers enrolled in the subject of Curriculum Analysis for Junior High School. First, they were assigned to analyze a given basic competence and were then challenged to select the appropriate materials and the indicators when the competence achieved according to Bloom taxonomy. Surprisingly, though there are many reference books available for sources of analysis, the teacher candidates found some difficulties in arranging the topics and composing the appropriate indicators. Some errors found such as the use of unmeasurable verbs, unclear activities, and illogical-irrelevant topics.

Development of Test Instrument TIMSS Model to Measure Mathematical Ability VIII Grade Students

The teachers are still lack found practice tests that have characteristics such as the Trend in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in Junior High School mathematics textbooks. This study aims to develop a TIMSS test instrument model that refers to the cognitive domain and the content domain for class VIII students. The respondents of this study were 5 people in the expert test, 10 people in the one to one test and 53 people in the small-scale test. This research is development research conducted following the development model of Borg & Gall. This step is only taken until the ninth step with a few modifications. Modifications are made by adding a one to one test copy from Tessmer. In content validity, as many as 5 items out of 35 items developed are not yet valid with a coefficient range of 0.6-0.79. Items were then revised to be tested in the small-scale test stage. One to one test results showed the instrument readability level was 81%. The validity test of the criteria shows a coefficient of 0.84 which means that the product developed is comparable to the original product. Interrater reliability was 0.661 and Alpha Chronbach reliability testing was a small scale at 0.854. The results showed that the instrument developed was valid in terms of content and criteria as well as reliable for use. The benefit of this research is that the developed test instrument can be used as a tool to measure the mathematics abilities of eighth-grade students.

Developing Realistic and Child-friendly Learning Model for Teaching Mathematics

This study aims to develop a learning model based on the theory of realistic mathematics education and child-friendly learning for teaching mathematics in junior high school. This research is conducted using Plomp’s educational design research that consists of four development phases: 1) preliminary investigation, 2) designing, 3) realization, and 4) revision, evaluation. In addition, this study also tests the mathematics instructional model prototype being developed and validated by an expert. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that: 1) the teacher’s learning management in the implementation of realistic and child-friendly learning model can be classified “very good”, 2) the prototype model is categorized “very good” in improving students’ activities , and 3) the students’ responses toward the developed mathematics instructional model are "positive”. Moreover, the syntaxes of realistic and child-friendly learning model for teaching mathematics in junior high school have been formulated, namely: 1) explaining learning objectives and motivating students, 2) providing contextual problems students familiar with, or horizontal mathematization, 3) processing abstraction or vertical mathematization, 4) devising strategies, 5) communicating solution in a discussion, and 6) giving inferences of mathematics subject-matter.

Primary and junior high school mathematics and science teachers’ views on teaching in the Cape Coast Metropolis of Ghana

This paper draws on conceptualization of pupil-centred and teacher-centred methods to explore the views of primary school and junior high school (JHS) mathematics and science teachers on teaching. The purpose of the study was to ascertain whether the views of these teachers place the pupils at the centre of the teaching and learning process. The research participants were selected from all the six circuits in the Cape Coast Metropolis using stratified random sampling procedure. Questionnaires were administered and responded to by 157 primary and JHS mathematics and science teachers in the Cape Coast Metropolis of Ghana. The data collected were analysed using both quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods. The findings from the study showed among others that the participants’ views about teaching were predominantly teacher-centred. Implications of the findings for mathematics and science teacher education particularly and research in mathematics and science education in Ghana generally are provided.

Data collection techniques use documentation, questionnaires and interviews. The results of this study can be concluded that: (1) Pedagogical and professional competence of junior high school mathematics teachers in Bangka Tengah district itself is good but still needs to be improved. This can be seen from the results of (a) pedagogical and professional competencies have been implemented as indicators of Minister of Education Regulation No. 16 of 2007 (b) the average value of UKG on pedagogic competence is 66.29 and professional competence is 66.04 (2) The obstacles faced in taking UKG are the material tested on his professional competence is too broad, lack of mastery of pedagogical competencies, lack of some teachers have mastery of computers.
