Business development strategies for Mexican honey with a 2032 perspective: The future of Mexican honey

To identify market strategies for Mexico’s apiculture sector, this study projects national honey production and the leading producing states through 2032. The states were considered strategic market units, with their positioning and growth stochastically projected over a 10-year period based on their honey production value. From 2023 to 2032, honey production volume is projected to decline. However, in the prospective scenario, the value of honey production is expected to rise, with Yucatán maintaining its position as the leading producer, followed by Chiapas, Jalisco, Campeche, and Oaxaca. Veracruz experienced a significant decline, while Yucatán positioned itself in the cash cow quadrant. Guerrero and Oaxaca showed growth and joined the question mark quadrant, where Quintana Roo remained. Meanwhile, Campeche and Veracruz were placed in the dog quadrant alongside Puebla, Jalisco, and Chiapas, even though Chiapas showed production growth. After analyzing their future performance, distinct market strategies were established for each state.

The Role of Dividend Policy in Shaping Market Value of Shares: Evidence from Colombo Stock Exchange

Purpose: This study investigates the role of dividend policy in determining the impact of dividend policy on the stock prices of the non-financial companies listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka during the period from 2017 to 2021, using panel data analysis. The research aims to explore the varies aspects of dividend policy that affect market prices in the Sri Lankan context.Design/Methodology/Approach: A sample of 90 non-financial firms, resulting in 450 observations, was selected for this study. To analyze the relationship between the independent variables namely dividend per share, dividend payout ratio and dividend yield and the dependent variable of market price per share, the study used pooled OLS, fixed and random effect models. After chow, Hausman, and LM tests, fixed effect model is selected as the best model for the study.Findings: These results indicate a positive and significant relationship between dividend per share, dividend payout ratio and share price supporting signaling theory, and dividend relevance theory. Conversely, the study finds a significant negative relationship between dividend yield and stock prices, suggesting that higher dividend yields may limit a firm’s growth prospects by reducing reinvestment opportunities.Originality: This study contributes to the literature by applying panel data techniques to assess the influence of dividend policy on stock prices in an emerging market like Sri Lanka. It provides empirical evidence to support the relevance of dividend policy in shaping market perceptions and stock valuation.Theoretical and Policy Implications: The findings offer insights for academicians, corporate managers, investors, and policymakers. By understanding the importance of dividend policy and its impact on the market value of shares, stakeholders can make more informed decisions related to dividend distribution, market strategies, and corporate growth planning.Research limitations/ Future research directions: Future research could extend this study by exploring the effects of dividend policy on stock prices during pre and post financial crisis periods or by examining the moderating role of other financial variables such as leverage and earnings growth.

The Impact of Beekeeping on Small Holder Farmers’ Household Income in Kandahar, Afghanistan

Beekeeping is a vital component of rural economies, significantly contributing to household income, particularly in agricultural regions. This study employed a cross-sectional survey design to analyze the impact of market outlet choices and related socioeconomic factors on beekeeping income in Kandahar, Afghanistan. A structured questionnaire was administered to 310 randomly selected beekeepers across five key districts known for honey production. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression to identify significant predictors of income and assess the effectiveness of various market strategies. This study examines the relationship between beekeeping and the household income of smallholder farmers. Using a multiple regression model, data from 310 sample households distributed across four districts and Kandahar City were examined. The findings revealed a positive relationship between beekeepers' income and beekeeping factors, such as family size and work experience. The research suggests that governments, in collaboration with relevant NGOs, can encourage wholesale opportunities and strengthen ties between producers and customers to address the honey demand gap and boost beekeepers' incomes. Although this study primarily focuses on Afghanistan, its findings apply to other rural agricultural regions, demonstrating the potential of beekeeping to promote economic growth and alleviate poverty. These findings can inform programs and policies aimed at enhancing the economic resilience and sustainable livelihoods of rural populations worldwide.

Evaluation of potential alternative markets for dried apricot exports using the CAPMA technique: An application to Türkiye

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the potential of new target markets for Türkiye's dried apricot exports. To this end, a novel approach was adopted, diverging from the conventional decision-making methodologies employed in the extant literature. Design/methodology/approach: In the course of this study, 20 alternative countries were identified according to the data obtained from the Trade Map, and these countries were considered target markets. The potential of these countries for Türkiye is discussed based on an analysis of secondary data from 2023. The data utilized in this study were obtained in 2024. Entropy and ARAS methods, which are multi-criteria decision-making methods (MCDM), and a new technique, the classification of potential market alternatives approach (CAPMA), were used in the process of evaluating potential markets. Findings: The findings indicate that Austria and China have the highest potential to increase dried apricot exports in dimension 1. In dimension 4, Hong Kong, Poland, India, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the United States of America (USA), Russia and France were identified as countries in which the current export potential should be maintained. Originality/value: This study adopts an innovative approach to target market selection, diverging from conventional methods frequently used in the past. This study evaluates alternative markets in different dimensions and helps with the correct use of resources through the correct target market strategies. To the best of the author's knowledge, no previous studies have been conducted using multi-criteria decision-making methods on target market selection for dried apricots. Consequently, the present study has made a significant contribution to literature.

Analysis of spatial dependencies and spatial effects in the relationship between economic growth and unemployment in Europe

The study presents an analysis of the relationship between unemployment and economic growth in European countries. The significant influence of the labour market situation on the economic condition of states is well-known. The analysis in this research was conducted using data from 43 selected European countries from 2006 to 2019. To evaluate the relationship between economic growth and the unemployment rate, enriched with spatial dependencies, spatial models for pooled time series and cross-sectional data (TSCS) were estimated. The neighbourhood was quantified using three types of connection matrices: (1) based on the common border criterion, (2) based on the maximum distance criterion, and (3) based on the similarity in socio-economic situations. Matrices (1) and (2) relate to the geographical neighbourhood, while matrix (3) defines the economic neighbourhood based on the values of the Human Development Index. The choice of these types of matrices was associated with the migration process (geographical neighbourhood) and the imitation effect of labour market strategies (economic neighbourhood) mentioned above. Based on the estimation and verification results of the Spatial Durbin Models (SDM), the spatial spillover effects were evaluated. Cumulative spatial effects allowed us to determine countries with the greatest influence on others and countries that are following the leading ones.

Employment Quality as a Framework to Understand Precarious Employment and Beyond in Cross‐National Contexts: Conceptual, Methodological, and Practical Recommendations

ABSTRACTPrecarious employment is a growing global concern. However, what constitutes or is perceived as precarious employment varies significantly across regions, particularly between the Global North and Global South. We propose the multidimensional Employment Quality (EQ) framework as a heuristic tool to explore the variety in EQ patterns from a cross‐national comparative perspective. This framework, which incorporates a typological analytical approach, enables the exploration of diverse patterns and combinations of (in)secure employment features across the workforce. By doing so the full range of employment arrangements is captured, from highly secure to precarious, while also accounting for “mixed” forms. Yet, comparing the prevalence and forms of EQ globally presents significant conceptual, methodological, and data‐related considerations, given the vast differences in employment and labor market features worldwide. Additionally, we provide practical tools for addressing the various considerations, with the aim of advancing EQ research for comparative purposes across diverse contexts. A comprehensive understanding of EQ configurations emerging across different contexts and their differential impacts on specific worker groups offers critical insights for informing labor market policies and strategies aimed at promoting more secure and equitable forms of employment in both the Global North and Global South.

This research paper investigates the suitability of the MBI10 index for the Macedonian Stock Exchange (MSE) by providing a comprehensive analysis of the exchange's structure, stock liquidity, and the performance of the index in comparison to regional and global benchmarks. The paper begins with an introduction to the MSE, detailing the liquidity of the stocks listed, which is critical for understanding market efficiency and investors’ confidence. A thorough analysis of the MBI10 index follows, evaluating its construction, historical performance, and volatility in relation to other significant regional and worldwide indices. Additionally, the research segments the stocks listed on the MSE by sector, proposing new tailored indices that could better reflect the diverse economic activities present within the market. The research pays particular attention to the effects of key events that have impacted stock valuations, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war, the introduction of new trading days, and significant mergers and acquisitions (M&A). By examining these elements, we aim to assess the resilience and adaptability of the MBI10 in capturing market dynamics and investor sentiments in an evolving economic landscape. The study employed various quantitative methods, including beta calculations, regression analysis, seasonality analysis, and market ratios, to evaluate the valuation of stocks and the suitability of the index MBI10. Ultimately, this paper contributes to the ongoing discussion regarding the effectiveness of the MBI10 as a representative index for the MSE, providing valuable insights for investors, policymakers and market analysts.

Attitudes and Perceptions Toward Mobile and Wearable Technologies to Support Health and Cognition Among Middle-Aged and Older Adults in Hong Kong.

Despite their considerable potential to address health and cognitive challenges, mobile and wearable health devices remain underutilized by older adults compared to other smart products, suggesting skeptical attitudes toward these health devices in older adults. Using an online scenario-based survey describing hypothetical individuals with health vulnerabilities, we examined the attitudes of middle-aged and older adults (N = 737) toward mobile and wearable devices for (1) predicting cognitive decline, (2) suggesting health behaviors, and (3) diagnosing diseases. Our results showed that the presence of health vulnerability was associated with higher perceived usefulness, lower privacy concerns, and greater intention to adopt these devices. Additionally, technological readiness, experiences, and various demographic factors influence attitudes, highlighting the complex structure shaping attitudinal barriers against adoption of these devices. These results emphasize the need for more tailored market segmentation and strategies to enhance the adoption of health-related gerotechnologies while addressing privacy concerns.

White-collar fraudsters in an emerging market: the case of Interbolsa in Colombia

Purpose Most corporate fraud literature focuses on its determinants, analyses fraudulent financial reports in developed countries and uses a quantitative approach. This paper aims to reveal how a leading stockbroker defrauded its investors and enriched a small group of owner-directors. It is a qualitative study of executive behaviour in an emerging market. Design/methodology/approach This paper developed a qualitative case study based on secondary information: judicial files, written press and journalistic investigation. The data were analysed using the theories of anomie and social capital. Findings Using three market strategies, a small stockbroker rose to national prominence. The first strategy was to gather abundant money through direct collection and triangulation with other companies and credits. The second was to identify illiquid financial assets whose accelerated valuation would go unnoticed in the market. The third strategy was aggressively multiplying the money available through sales operations with a repurchase agreement. Furthermore, the owner-managers sophisticatedly manipulated the market and used their political connections. Originality/value This paper contributes to the literature by integrating a sociological perspective with a case study from an underexplored context. Whereas most applications of anomie and social capital theories to financial fraud originate in Anglo-Saxon settings, this study examines the Interbolsa scandal – the largest stock market collapse in Colombia – offering a distinctive opportunity to adapt these theories to a Latin American context. Drawing on qualitative data, the paper advances beyond analyses of fraudulent financial statements to investigate executive behaviour, price manipulation and the use of repurchase agreements (REPOs) in an emerging market.

The moderating role of adaptability in enhancing competitive advantage through market insight, business strategy, and innovation

In the increasingly competitive real estate sector, firms are required to optimize Market Insight, Business Strategy, and Innovation while simultaneously adapting to dynamic conditions in order to sustain Competitive Advantage. This study investigates the structural relationship between these strategic drivers and examines how Innovation mediates and Adaptability moderates their impact on Competitive Advantage. A quantitative approach was adopted using Structural Equation Modeling based on the Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) technique, with data collected from 185 respondents within the Indonesian real estate industry. The results demonstrate that both Market Insight and Business Strategy significantly influence Innovation and Competitive Advantage, with Innovation serving as a partial mediator. Furthermore, Adaptability strengthens the positive effect of Innovation on Competitive Advantage, highlighting the importance of organizational responsiveness in turbulent environments. The findings indicate that firms integrating market-oriented strategies with innovation and adaptive capabilities tend to outperform competitors in sustaining long-term advantage. Theoretically, this research extends existing frameworks on dynamic capability and competitive strategy by emphasizing the contingent role of Adaptability. Practically, it provides guidance for decision-makers in formulating data-driven and flexible business strategies. Limitations of the study include its industry-specific context and the cross-sectional nature of the data. Future research is recommended to apply the proposed model across multiple sectors and to incorporate additional constructs such as digital transformation, customer engagement, and organizational resilience in order to broaden the theoretical contribution.

Longitudinal assessment of transportation-carbon emissions in European tourism

ABSTRACT This paper develops a comprehensive methodology that utilises open databases to estimate tourism-related transportation carbon emissions in Europe, ensuring both process replicability and annual comparability. The fluctuating growth trend in emissions from 2012 to 2023, primarily driven by international tourism, has been markedly influenced by a significant increase in aviation carbon emissions, despite a larger overall contribution from domestic tourism. Cars and airplanes are responsible for a relatively high proportion of carbon emissions, whereas emissions from the increasingly favoured railways have notably decreased. While transportation-related carbon emissions vary across countries with different tourism scales, the travellers' lifestyles and their transportation preferences are similar, leading to shared challenges in tourism decarbonisation. These findings support a market strategy that promotes intermodal and public transportation, advocates a balance between domestic and international tourism development, and leverages international tourism connections to foster sustainable development in the tourism sector.

Influence of Market Development Strategies on Microinsurance Uptake (Demand) among Micro and Small Enterprises in Nairobi City County, Kenya: The Moderating Role of Enterprise Characteristics

Purpose: The study aimed to investigate the moderating influence of enterprise characteristics on the relationship between market development strategies and microinsurance uptake (demand) among micro and small enterprises in Nairobi County, Kenya. Materials and Methods: The research adopted a positivist philosophy and descriptive research design. A representative sample of 387 MSEs was selected through multistage random sampling from a population of 12,429 registered MSEs in Nairobi County (MSEA, 2024). Data collection involved structured questionnaires, with a pilot test conducted to ensure validity and reliability. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS version 27. Descriptive statistics such as means and standard deviations were calculated, while inferential analysis employed multiple regression and correlation techniques to test hypotheses at a 95% confidence level (p < 0.05). Findings: The analysis revealed strong positive correlations between enterprise characteristics and microinsurance uptake (r = 0.705), significant at p < 0.01. Regression models showed that the enterprise characteristics, when combined with marketing strategies accounted for 57.9% of the variance in microinsurance uptake. The ANOVA results indicate an F-statistic of 136.853 with a p-value of 0.000 further suggesting that the moderating influence of enterprise characteristics on the relationship between market development strategies and microinsurance uptake was statistically significant at the 95% confidence level. The unstandardized coefficient (B) for enterprise characteristics was 0.041, indicating that a one-unit increase in moderating influence led to 0.041 units increase in microinsurance uptake. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Based on the study findings, the study recommended that microinsurance providers consider the enterprise characteristics when designing and delivering insurance products.

Research on the Impact of Consumer Preferences on Nintendos Brand Strategy: Insights from Conjoint Analysis

This study analyzes consumer preferences for Nintendo gaming consoles using conjoint analysis. Six factorsIP exclusivity, hardware performance, third-party support, storage expansion, backward compatibility, and pricingare examined through a survey (N = 660). Regression analysis reveals that price is the most influential factor, while third-party support, storage expansion, and backward compatibility negatively impact preference. Surprisingly, IP exclusivity and hardware performance show no significant effects, indicating that Nintendos appeal relies more on affordability and gameplay experience than technical specifications. These insights highlight the importance of strategic pricing and innovation while suggesting that traditionally perceived weaknesses, like hardware limitations, may not be critical concerns for Nintendos target audience. The study also offers practical recommendations for Nintendos future market strategies.

Determinants of contract farming in barley production – Regression tree approach

Barley, a nutri-rich cereal is gaining momentum among stakeholders owing to multiple health benefits but the concern is its declining area, possibly attributed to lack of market and competitive pricing strategy. Amongst alternatives, contract farming is widely suggested for better price realisation and assured market. In the context, the present study was carried out during 2013-15 in four major barley growing states in India, viz. Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh for identifying the determinants of contract farming from a sample of 400 randomly selected farmers using regression tree approach. Findings indicated that the average yield of farmers enrolled in contract farming was 4791 kg/ha (n=90) against non-contractors with an estimated yield of 3549 kg/ha (n=310), implying a yield advantage of 35%. The practice of enrollment into contracts was popular in Rajasthan as corroborated by regression tree. The analysis also indicated that farm size, seed replacement behaviour, source of seed and area under barley were turned as deciding factors in contract enrollment. Overall, the study indicated that region plays a prominent role in enrollment into contracts despite multiple benefits availed. The study advocates barley growers to take advantage of contract farming, especially small-holders to enroll into contracts for mitigating price risk apart from self-empowerment in barley production.

The digital era has driven a significant transformation in marketing strategies across various sectors, including healthcare. Marketing 4.0 introduces an approach that integrates digital and human-centric dimensions, emphasizing interactivity and customer experience. This study examines the influence of branding elements in Marketing 4.0, namely Brand Identity, Brand Image, Brand Integrity, and Brand Interaction on Customer Satisfaction and Repurchase Intention with Perceived Value as a mediating variable in the hospital industry in Indonesia. This study used a quantitative approach with a survey method of 282 respondents, and the analysis was carried out using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) through AMOS software. The results of the analysis show that all branding elements have a positive and significant effect on Customer Satisfaction and Perceived Value. Furthermore, Perceived Value has been proven to significantly mediate the influence of branding elements on Customer Satisfaction and Repurchase Intention. In addition, Customer Satisfaction and Perceived Value directly increase Repurchase Intent. These findings reinforce the validity of the Marketing 4.0 framework in the healthcare sector and underscore the importance of building authentic, consistent, and valuable brand experiences for patients. Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature on strategic marketing in services, especially digital-based hospitals. In practical terms, the results of this study provide managerial implications for hospitals in designing holistic and integrated marketing strategies to increase patient loyalty amid competitive market dynamics.
