Postpartum depression is a serious mental disorder after childbirth, harming mothers, infants, and families. Delayed recognition increases risks, leading to untreated illness, chronicity, and recurrence, significantly affecting social and cognitive health. This study aimed to assess the contributing factors influencing postpartum depression among mothers attending Neuropsychiatric hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State in the last 10 years. This descriptive retrospective study involved 50 patient records which were selected using the purposive sampling method of the available patient records at the research setting. The checklist for data collection was compared with the literature review on the research topic and reviewed by experts in the field of nursing and midwifery to ensure content validity. The reliability of the instrument was assessed through test-retest method which yielded reliability index of 0.70. The data was collected using a checklist and results were presented in tables using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 26. This study revealed that participants, all within reproductive age, experienced postpartum depression. Social factors included lack of social support (50%) and breastfeeding difficulties (2%). Psychological contributors were dominated by financial difficulties (40%), alongside fewer cases of domestic violence and marital problems. These findings highlight the multifaceted nature of postpartum depression, shaped by both social and psychological determinants among affected mothers. This study concluded that Postpartum depression is multifactorial, influenced by psychological, obstetric, and social factors, with key risks including poor relationships, domestic violence, financial stress, psychiatric history, caesarean section, hypertension, breastfeeding challenges, and multiple births.

This study examines the effectiveness of pre-marital counselling interventions on decreasing divorce, specifically the effects on relationship satisfaction, communication competence, and conflict resolution between couples who are engaged. The aims of this study are to evaluate the impact of pre-marital counselling on marital satisfaction among couples prior and subsequent to marriage, to explore the impact of different methods of counselling in improving communication skills, and to identify the relationship between attending pre-marital counselling and whether or not the couples will attend additional assistance in case of marital problems. Furthermore, the study explores how pre-marital counselling can repair and manage the issues of conflict areas the couples have identified. With comparative approach, we analyze divorce differences among couples who receive pre-marital counselling and those who do not receive counselling and discover particular counselling factors that make an important contribution to enduring marriages in the context of long-term duration. With proper literature review method, this study formulates better understanding of pre-marital counselling advantages. Early indications are that pre-marital programs help in building effective communication, enhance the quality of satisfaction within the relationship, and significantly reduce levels of divorce. The study emphasizes the necessity of foresight, e.g., pre-marital therapy, in creating healthy, long-term marriages.

Complex marital problems require interventions that focus on individual empowerment. This study aims to evaluate in depth the effectiveness of counseling with the Client-Centered Therapy (CCT) approach in handling marital cases at the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA) of Sikka Regency. This approach is based on the core principles of empathy, unconditional acceptance, and deep understanding, which view clients as whole individuals with the capacity to grow and make the best decisions for themselves. The counseling process focuses on building a safe and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, so that clients can freely explore various complex feelings related to their marriage, such as inner conflict, disappointment in the relationship, or pressure from the environment. The results of the study indicate that the CCT approach is significantly effective in helping clients articulate their problems and find authentic solutions according to their values ??and needs. This contributes directly to improving emotional well-being, reducing stress levels, and strengthening clients' capacity to make wiser and more constructive decisions about the future of their relationship.

This study investigates the health of couple relationships and emphasizes the importance of improving the quality of communication among couples as a key aspect of community health. Given the decline in the quality of marital relations, marital and emotional problems, and the increase in divorce proceedings, identifying causal factors and preventing them is crucial. This research is cross-sectional in nature and involved a sample of 208 individuals, comprising 104 compatible couples and 104 incompatible couples. Using available sampling methods, participants were selected based on their referral to divorce centers or the absence of such referrals, with ages ranging from 20 to 35 years. Participants completed the emotional empathy scale (EES), (FACES-III), and the Enrich marital satisfaction scale (ECS). Independent t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were used for data analysis. The mean emotional empathy score for incompatible couples was 37.59 (SD=3.65). In contrast, compatible couples exhibited a mean emotional empathy score of 117.65 (SD=10.18). Regarding adaptability, incompatible couples had a mean score of 66.61 (SD=3.47), while compatible couples scored significantly higher, with a mean of 112.64 (SD=5.60). Finally, the mean marital functioning score for incompatible couples was 71.35 (SD=2.66), whereas compatible couples had a much lower mean score of 35.76 (SD=3.54). The results indicated that the significance level of Levene's test was less than 0.05 (P<0.0001), suggesting significant differences in the mean scores of emotional empathy, adaptability, and marital functioning between compatible and incompatible young couples. The findings revealed that incompatible young couples have lower emotional empathy and adaptability than the compatible sample, resulting in weaker couple functioning. This situation has led to ongoing conflicts and possibly serious actions toward divorce, which will have significant social consequences. Therefore, regularly monitoring couples and taking action to improve these variables are priorities for enhancing family systems.

The excess consumption of alcohol causes adverse health and social consequences. Alcoholuse is associated with increased risk of acute health conditions. Harmful use of alcohol cancause high blood pressure, liver cirrhosis, some cancers (mouth, intestine and breast) andcardiovascular diseases. It is also the cause of several accidents, marital problems and othersocial problems. Babor and Higgin-Biddle (2001) stated that most of the harms associatedwith alcohol use occur among people who are not dependent on alcohol but drink aboverecommended levels. In the whole world, 3.3 million deaths every year results from harmfuluse of alcohol, also in the age group 20-39 years, approximately 25 percent of total deaths arealcohol-induced (WHO, 2015). In 2017, a 35 year old man and friend of a leading Nigerianmusician „Davido‟ died after consuming ten „tequila‟ shots in a drinking competition on hisbirthday (Punch, 2017).Visits to drinking bars across Calabar Metropolis reveals that most persons, many ofwho are university students, spend their evening (especially weekends) in drinking parloursand wine bars, consuming alcohol. These persons are influenced to drink alcohol excessivelydue to aggressive marketing by alcohol manufacturers, (Shaikh, Pathak & Kapilashrami,2015). Other causes of alcohol consumption are social norms, the urge to make and sustainfriendship, and peer pressure. Most alcohol consumers engage in this behaviour because theyare not aware of the harm they can cause to themselves and/or their relatives. The key to improving health lies in our ability to change harmful behaviour.Approximately four in five drinkers would decrease their risk of death if they reduced theirdrinking by one unit of alcohol per week, (OECD, 2015). Behaviour change can be achievedthrough social marketing interventions, where deeply held beliefs or habits are challenged inorder to influence the status quo. Social marketing interventions aimed at changing harmfulalcohol consumption can be carried out through traditional face to face or through onlinemedia channels. Online channels such as social media posses several advantages, whichinclude availability, confidentiality, flexibility, low cost, ease of access, comfort and manyother advantages not obtained in traditional face to face media channels.Social Media are web-based communications tools that enable people to interact witheach other by both sharing and consuming information, (Nation, 2017). Since the advent ofsocial media, young adults have been early adopters and voracious users of these tools,(Purcell,Smith & Zickuhr, 2010). Young adults are immersed in social media such as Facebook andTwitter, (Lernhardt, 2005).

The study examines the influence of marriage-related stressors such as domestic violence, divorce and having affairs, on people and communities, especially in the workplace. A number of 350 professionals from healthcare, corporate and academic sectors were surveyed using prepared questionnaires to obtain data. The researchers studied the connection between emotional trauma, marital strain, societal stigma, trust erosion and workplace results with the help of exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, one-way ANOVA, correlation, regression and structural equation modeling. It is seen, from the results, that emotions and reactions are different for men and women, that work stress in different industries varies greatly and that family challenges are strongly related to dropping involvement in work. Results of both mediation and moderation show that both motivation and support from the organization may reduce the negative effects of challenges at work on work engagement. The structural model points out the link between personal trauma, absenteeism and lower productivity at work. This proves that targeted support is valuable for employees dealing with marital problems to improve the success of the company. The findings of this study help us see how stress outside of work lives may impact behavior at work and can benefit both company policies and intervention.

Marriage is one of the stages in adult life that bring major change, both emotionally and socially. Marriage under three years is considered an early phase, where couples are still adapting and getting to know each other's characters. This phase is often considered a period of adaptation and adjustment of communication, economy, and adaptation to the extended family for married couples. This study aims to understand the resilience strategies applied to non-working wives in dealing with marital problems in the early phase of marriage less than three years. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach that allows researchers to understand the picture of the dynamics of the subject. The results of the most widely used resilience research by non-working wives are that emotional regulation and positive self-acceptance play a very important role in maintaining the harmony of a marriage relationship. The presence of factors that emerge such as cultural dynamics, the presence of children and communication are interconnected and make a major contribution to creating relationship that is mutually supportive and full of understanding. The implications of this study indicate that the development of resilience strategies is very important for non-working wives in managing conflict and maintaining marital harmony, especially in the early phase of marriage. Background Self-harm is a serious public health problem across the world, impacting not only people who self-harm but also their families and society as a whole through higher resource costs and productivity losses. This review was conducted among the general Saudi population to investigate the prevalence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and factors affecting it. Methods An electronic literature search of four major databases, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus Science Direct, and Google Scholar, was conducted to include eligible studies. All studies reporting NSSI or relevant to the subject were included. Results A total of five articles with 1758 participants were included. The lowest recorded NSSI prevalence was 0.47% while the highest was 10.2%, both in Al-Khobar city. Conclusion We recorded a relatively low but increasing prevalence of NSSI. The review also demonstrated that NSSI was more common among the female population and young people. Self-poisoning, including drug overdose, was the most prevalent method of self-harm. Interpersonal difficulties, marital problems, academic failure, and family and self-conflicts were common motivating factors of NSSI.

This study examines the influence of Kwagh-hir cultural heritage on intra-ethnic conflict resolution within Tiv of Central Nigeria. The Tiv people are known for their rich cultural heritage, and one of the most prestigious cultural heritages in Tiv land is the Kwagh-hir (a traditional theatre), used for entertainment, enlightenment and re-orientation of the people. This study used qualitative research methods such as in-depth interviews, participant observation and archival research in examining how Kwagh-hir functions within Tiv communities as a means of resolving disputes. Results of the study show that the Kwagh-hir is a mechanism of conflict resolution among the Tiv. It enables community members to air their grievances, exchange ideas and foster social cohesion. The Kwagh-hir uses performances to confront issues within the culture, such as land disputes, marital problems and leadership challenges. By doing this, it opens up opportunities for conversation and healing. Moreover, the Kwagh-hir ensures the constant preservation and protection of the Tiv culture, values and belief systems, highlighting the paramount importance of community togetherness. Kwagh-hir is, therefore, a cultural mechanism for the promotion of peace, unity and stability in Tiv society, as it brings together community members to interact, exchange ideas, sympathize and appreciate one another. This becomes the essential core of safeguarding and promoting the Kwagh-hir as a traditional tool for conflict resolution and peacebuilding. This article ends with a set of recommendations, employing heritage experts, custodians and community leaders, among others, to utilize best practices in cultural heritage management for sustainable peace and development in Tiv society.

Abstract Background: Comorbidity is the co-occurrence of multiple disorders. Psychiatric patients often manifest themselves complicated cognitive and behavioral impairments as well as poorer outcomes. We intended to present a recently treated patient to show the challenging clinical complexities. Case Report: The patient was a 51-year-old woman patient, who presented herself with severe physical, psychiatric, and marital problems, including obvious malnutrition with purging and anorexic behavior, various depressive symptoms, as well as marital conflicts. Through our understanding and treatment in both inpatient and outpatient care, the patient had gradually resolved all her problems stepwise. Conclusion: This case report underscored complexity of comorbid major depressive disorder, alcohol use disorder, and anorexia nervosa, binge-eating/purging type as well as formulating all three conditions in the treatment. A transdiagnostic approach, such as the unified protocol, effectively addresses core emotional issues, while pharmacological interventions and integrated treatment strategies are crucial for symptom management and long-term recovery.

Maintaining relationship quality during the first few years can be difficult for many couples. We examined whether variability in the repeat-length polymorphism RS3 on the vasopressin receptor gene AVPR1A is associated with relationship maintenance processes and trajectories of marital satisfaction over the first three years of marriage. Newlywed couples (N=70; 128 individuals) reported on various aspects of their marriage within three months of their wedding and on their marital satisfaction every four months for three years, and provided saliva samples that we genotyped for RS3 alleles. Based on the literature, we predicted that people with at least one copy of target allele 334 (vs. none) would report more problems in pair bonding. We also used another genotype analysis approach from the extant literature, by testing whether people with a greater (vs. fewer) number of short alleles would report more problems in pair bonding. Across both approaches, results failed to support our predictions. In fact, the significant effects that did emerge were in the opposite direction from our predictions: people with at least one copy of allele 334 reported fewer marital problems and less interest in romantic alternatives; the number of short alleles was similarly positively associated with more dedication to the relationship and greater relationship satisfaction at the beginning of marriage. Discrepancies between these findings and prior research illustrate the challenges of candidate gene studies with small sample sizes. Nevertheless, in offering a potential reconciliation between the discrepancies, we suggest that attending to relational phase may be critical to understanding the role of RS3 in couple functioning; AVPR1A RS3 variability may be differentially associated with pair bonding in the newlywed stage compared to established marriages.

This study explores the issue of nushūz (disobedience) and lack of muṭāwaʿah (obedience or compliance) between spouses within Iraqi society, particularly in the context of modern developments such as the expansion of mass communication and the temptations that negatively affect family relationships. The aim of this study is to highlight the impact of these factors on family stability and to examine how distancing from the divine legal rulings ordained by God can exacerbate marital problems, potentially leading to divorce and the ensuing social and psychological challenges. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, wherein Qur’anic texts related to muṭāwaʿah and nushūz are analyzed and compared with the texts of Iraq’s Personal Status Law to identify points of convergence and divergence. The most significant findings of the study indicate that the Noble Qur’an addresses the issues of obedience and disobedience in a more just and balanced manner than the Iraqi law. The Qur’an offers gradual and step-by-step solutions that focus on the reform and preservation of the family, rather than immediately resorting to judicial remedies. The study also demonstrates that the current law suffers from a lack of precise definitions for nushūz and is deficient in providing adequate procedures for reconciliation between spouses. Furthermore, it fails to address the issue of a husband's disobedience in a balanced manner. The research underscores the importance of revising existing laws to strike a balance between adherence to religious texts and consideration of social and cultural transformations, in order to ensure family stability and strengthen justice between spouses.

PurposeThe study aims to explore and test the relationship between abusive supervision, emotional exhaustion, work–family conflict and divorce intentions among employees in the hospitality industry. Specifically, it investigates how abusive supervision leads to emotional exhaustion, which in turn intensifies work–family conflict and ultimately influences divorce intentions.Design/methodology/approachThe study used a mixed-methods design with an exploratory sequential approach. In the first phase, qualitative interviews with hotel employees explored the effects of abusive supervision on work and family life. Findings from these interviews informed the development of a framework for the second phase, which quantitatively tested the relationships between abusive supervision, emotional exhaustion, work–family conflict and intention to divorce.FindingsOur findings revealed that abusive supervision causes emotional exhaustion, which in turn leads to work–family conflict. However, we did not find any significant link between work–family conflict and the intention to divorce.Originality/valueTo the best of our knowledge, this study is among the first studies to explore the outcomes of abusive supervision using the mixed method approach, specifically the exploratory sequential design, to comprehensively examine the associations among abusive supervision, emotional exhaustion, work–family conflict and marital problems. This research contributes to leadership literature by providing empirical findings on the long-term impacts of abusive supervision.
