The article analyzes the products of artistic, graphic and verbal activity, objective measures of actualization of the world image in students of different majors and courses of Kiev National University of Culture and Arts on the basis of allocation of the dominant dichotomous signs, and criteria of interrelated components of the world image (physical, cognitive, psychosomatic, emotional and social). We compared the representation of these characteristics in all artworks (group 1: 1438 students) and in a dedicated group of pictures of students, for whom the dominant channel of verbal representation of the world image is perceptual one (group 2: 145 students). We revealed the multifunctional indicators of perceptual representation, and composition category in the mapping of the various components of the world image: harmony, integrity and consistency of form, proportionality and flexibility, structuredness. The perceptual image of the world as a reference image is displayed in the form of compositional integrity, it corrects all the other images, affects the peculiarities of their manifestations in artistic activity; it has a personal meaning, which characterizes the attitude of the individual to the world.

Photoluminescence of Si nanocrystals embedded in : Excitation/emission mapping

AbstractTime‐resolved photoluminescence from Si nanocrystals produced by 1100C thermal annealing of SiO/SiO multilayers were investigated by tunable laser excitation, achieving a detailed excitation/emission pattern in the visible and UV range. The emission lineshape is a gaussian curve inhomogenously broadened because of the size distribution of Si nanocrystals, the excitation spectrum consists of the overlap of two gaussian bands centered around 3.4 and 5.1 eV. The mapping of luminescence spectral components with the lifetime points out the energy cubic dependence of the spontaneous emission rate. These findings are interpreted on the basis of models proposed in literature that associate this luminescence with quantum confinement of excitons or interfacial Si/SiO defects.

Holographic laser Doppler imaging of microvascular blood flow

We report on local superficial blood flow monitoring in biological tissue from laser Doppler holographic imaging. In time-averaging recording conditions, holography acts as a narrowband bandpass filter, which, combined with a frequency-shifted reference beam, permits frequency-selective imaging in the radio frequency range. These Doppler images are acquired with an off-axis Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Microvascular hemodynamic components mapping is performed in the cerebral cortex of the mouse and the eye fundus of the rat with near-infrared laser light without any exogenous marker. These measures are made from a basic inverse-method analysis of local first-order optical fluctuation spectra at low radio frequencies, from 0Hz to 100kHz. Local quadratic velocity is derived from Doppler broadenings induced by fluid flows, with elementary diffusing wave spectroscopy formalism in backscattering configuration. We demonstrate quadratic mean velocity assessment in the 0.1-10mm/s range in vitro and imaging of superficial blood perfusion with a spatial resolution of about 10 micrometers in rodent models of cortical and retinal blood flow.

Association mapping of oil content and fatty acid components in soybean

Soybean is a globally important oil crop, and the flavour, stability and nutritional value of soybean oil is dependent on the relative proportions of five primary fatty acids. In this study, association mapping was performed to identify molecular markers associated with QTL regions related to oil traits in soybean. Oil and fatty acid contents were measured in soybean accessions grown under field conditions for 2 years. Based on polymorphisms at 142 SSR loci, 94 soybean accessions were divided into two clusters corresponding to accessions from Asian and American gene pools. Linkage disequilibrium (LD) among the SSR loci suggested a structure across the soybean genome (LD decay) of approximately 12 cM. Pairwise kinship estimates among the accessions showed low values. A mixed linear model (MLM) adjusted using false discovery rate (FDR) and minimum Bayes factor (BFmin) values identified 110 strongly associated marker-traits. Oleic acid content had the highest number of associated SSR loci (33), followed by linoleic acid (26), palmitic acid (24), oil (16) and linolenic acid (14). Specific alleles at eight loci yielded high performing soybeans with respect to fatty acid content, and these are presented in a crossing matrix. Analysis of SSR loci and oil traits confirmed previous findings, and many new markers were also identified that may be useful for quickly improving oil traits in soybean.

Polarization-resolved near-field mapping of plasmonic aperture emission by a dual-SNOM system.

We study the polarization characteristics of light emission and collection in the near field by the tips of a Dual-SNOM (two scanning near-field optical microscopes) setup. We find that cantilevered fiber probes can serve as emitters of polarized light, or as polarization-sensitive detectors. The polarization characteristics depend on the fiber type used for tip fabrication. In Dual-SNOM measurements, we demonstrate mapping of different field components of the plasmonic dipole pattern emitted by an aperture probe.

Soft X-ray spectromicroscopy for speciation, quantitation and nano-eco-toxicology of nanomaterials.

There is a critical need for methods that provide simultaneous detection, identification, quantitation and visualization of nanomaterials at their interface with biological and environmental systems. The approach should allow speciation as well as elemental analysis. Using the intrinsic X-ray absorption properties, soft X-ray scanning transmission X-ray spectromicroscopy (STXM) allows characterization and imaging of a broad range of nanomaterials, including metals, oxides and organic materials, and at the same time is able to provide detailed mapping of biological components. Thus, STXM offers considerable potential for application to research on nanomaterials in biology and the environment. The potential and limitations of STXM in this context are discussed using a range of examples, focusing on the interaction of nanomaterials with microbial cells, biofilms and extracellular polymers. The studies outlined include speciation and mapping of metal-containing nanomaterials (Ti, Ni, Cu) and carbon-based nanomaterials (multiwalled carbon nanotubes, C60 fullerene). The benefits of X-ray fluorescence detection in soft X-ray STXM are illustrated with a study of low levels of Ni in a natural river biofilm.

QTL Mapping of Yield and Yield Components under Normal and Salt-stress Conditions in Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

A population of 186 recombinant inbred lines of bread wheat (Superhead#2/Roshan) was evaluated to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) for yield and yield components under normal (2 ds m–1) and salt-stress (10–12 ds m–1) conditions. A genetic map was constructed with 451 markers, including, 23 simple sequences repeats (SSRs) and 428 diversity arrays technology markers (DArTs). The main-effect QTL were identified by composite interval mapping (CIM) analysis using QTL Cartographer v2.5 and Qgene v4.3.2 and a mixed-model-based composite interval mapping (MCIM) method using QTLNetwork v2.1. A total of 98 significant QTL were detected at two testing locations on 20 chromosomes. Of these, only 40 QTL were detected by at least two of these software programs. A total of 24 QTL on ten chromosomes were identified for grain yield, most of which had a minor effect, contributing less than 10 % of the total phenotypic variation. Two grain-yield QTL intervals were detected on 1A1 and 3B, which contributed 11.02 % and 10.3 % to the total phenotypic variation, respectively. Roshan alleles were associated with an increase in grain yield under stress conditions on 1A1, 2B3, 3B, 6B1, 1D, 2D1. Among the 20 chromosomes, chromosome 3B with 27 QTL and two distinctive cluster regions was the most important. SSR markers gwm282, gwm247, gwm566, and gwm33 were tightly linked to QTL for the same or different traits under normal, stress or both conditions, and accounted for about 17 %, 43 %, 43 % and 20 % of the total phenotypic variation, respectively. These markers are suitable for marker-assisted selection to improve grain yield under normal and salt-stress conditions.

QTL Mapping of Yield and Yield Components in Barley Lines

This study was conducted to identify QTLs controlling yield and yield components in 99 F13 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from barley cross Azumamugi × Kanto Nakate Gold. The parents and inbred lines were evaluated for agronomic characteristics including spike number per m2, kernel number per spike, kernel weight per spike, kernel yield, and 1000 kernels weight. Field trails were conducted as randomized complete block design with two and three replications for 2 planting years, respectively. Significant differences and transgrassive segregants were observed among lines for all of the traits. To identify QTL, composite interval mapping (CIM) was done based on linkage map constructed using 99 RILs and 2 morphological, 2 isozyme, 34 STS and 62 AFLP markers. New QTL controlling spike number/m2 was identified in this population. The QTL explained 10% of the phenotypic variation, was located in the map interval of ABG604-e09m28.8.2 on chromosome 5HL. The QTL detected in the map interval of vrs1-MWG503 on chromosome 2HL could explain most of the phenotypic variation for kernel number per spike, kernel yield and 1000-kernel weight. Most of the phenotypic variation for kernel weight per spike was explained by the QTLs located in the map interval of vrs1-MWG503 and MWG801-vrs1 on chromosome 2H. The results revealed that important QTLs controlling most of the traits were located near by two and six-rowed spike gene vrs1.

Comparative mapping of chalkiness components in rice using five populations across two environments.

BackgroundChalkiness is a major constraint in rice production because it is one of the key factors determining grain quality (appearance, processing, milling, storing, eating, and cooking quality) and price. Its reduction is a major goal, and the primary purpose of this study was to dissect the genetic basis of grain chalkiness. Using five populations across two environments, we also sought to determine how many quantitative trait loci (QTL) can be consistently detected. We obtained an integrated genetic map using the data from five mapping populations and further confirmed the reliability of the identified QTL.ResultsA total of 79 QTL associated with six chalkiness traits (chalkiness rate, white core rate, white belly rate, chalkiness area, white core area, and white belly area) were mapped on 12 chromosomes using five populations (two doubled haploid lines and three recombinant inbred lines) across two environments (Hainan in 2004 and Wuhan in 2004). The final integrated map included 430 markers; 58.3% of the QTL clustered together (QTL clusters), 71.4% of the QTL clusters were identified in two or more populations, and 36.1% of the QTL were consistently detected in the two environments. The QTL could be detected again and showed dominance (qWBR1, qWBR8, qWBR12, and qCR5) or overdominance effects (qWCR7) for the rate of the white belly or white core, respectively, and all four QTL clusters derived from Zhenshan 97 controlling white belly rate were stably and reliably identified in an F2 population.ConclusionsOur results identified 79 QTL associated with six chalkiness traits using five populations across two environments and yielded an integrated genetic map, indicating most of the QTL clustered together and could be detected in different backgrounds. The identified QTL were stable and reliable in the F2 population, and they may facilitate our understanding of the QTL related to chalkiness traits in different populations and various environments, the relationships among the various chalkiness QTL, and the genetic basis for chalkiness. Thus, our results may be immediately used for map-based cloning of important QTL and in marker-assisted breeding to improve grain quality in rice breeding.

Crime, fear of crime and mental health: synthesis of theory and systematic reviews of interventions and qualitative evidence

BackgroundCrime and fear of crime may impact negatively on health and well-being. Interventions to reduce crime and fear of crime, particularly interventions in the physical environment, may be a promising way to improve population-level well-being.Project components(1) Mapping review of theories and pathways; (2) systematic review of effectiveness; (3) systematic review of UK qualitative data; and (4) focus groups and interviews with stakeholders.Methods(1) The mapping review was a pragmatic non-systematic review focusing on theoretical literature and observational quantitative studies and development of a theoretical model of pathways. (2 and 3) The systematic reviews followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidance. In total, 18 databases including EMBASE, MEDLINE, PsycINFO and Science Citation Index were searched from inception to 2010. Studies presenting data on the built environment and the fear of crime were included. Quality assessment was conducted. Data synthesis was conducted narratively for the intervention review, with harvest plots to synthesise data on inequalities, and by thematic analysis for the review of qualitative evidence. (4) Semistructured interviews with nine stakeholders working in community safety and two focus groups with members of the public were conducted to inform the methods of the project and the dissemination of findings. Data were analysed thematically.Results(1) There are complex and often indirect links between crime, fear of crime, environment, and health and well-being at both individual and population levels. Fear of crime is associated with poorer health outcomes. There is considerable debate about the measurement of fear of crime. Both fear of crime and crime are associated with a range of environmental factors. (2) A total of 12,093 references were screened on abstract for the two systematic reviews. Of these, 47 effectiveness studies (22 controlled and 25 uncontrolled) were included in the systematic review of effectiveness, with 36 conducted in the UK, 10 in the USA and one in the Netherlands. There is some evidence that home security improvements and non-crime-related environmental improvements may improve some fear of crime outcomes. There is little evidence that the following reduce fear of crime: street lighting improvements, closed-circuit television, multicomponent environmental crime prevention programmes or regeneration programmes. The evidence on housing improvement is mixed. Very few data on the health and well-being outcomes of crime reduction interventions were located and the study quality overall is poor. (3) A total of 39 studies were included in the systematic review of qualitative data. Several factors in the physical environment are perceived to impact on fear of crime. However, factors in the local social environment appear to be more important as drivers of fear of crime. There is considerable evidence for limitations on physical activity as a result of fear of crime, but less for mental health impacts. (4) Stakeholders see fear of crime as harder to address than crime and as linked to health and well-being. Environmental interventions, such as Secured by Design, are widely used and positively regarded.LimitationsThe review is relatively restricted in its scope and a number of relevant interventions and themes are excluded. The underlying evidence base is of limited quality, particularly for the effectiveness review, and is heterogeneous.ConclusionsBroader social interventions appear more promising than crime-focused environmental interventions as a means of improving fear of crime, health and well-being. The qualitative evidence suggests that fear of crime may impact on physical activity. More broadly, crime and fear of crime appear to be linked to health and well-being mainly as aspects of socioeconomic disadvantage. This review indicates the following gaps in the literature: evaluation research on the health impacts of crime reduction interventions; more robust research on interventions to reduce fear of crime; systematic reviews of non-environmental interventions to reduce fear of crime and systematic reviews of qualitative evidence on other crime-related topics.FundingThe National Institute for Health Research Public Health Research programme.

Genome-wide association mapping of yield and yield components of spring wheat under contrasting moisture regimes

A stable QTL that may be used in marker-assisted selection in wheat breeding programs was detected for yield, yield components and drought tolerance-related traits in spring wheat association mapping panel. Genome-wide association mapping has become a widespread method of quantitative trait locus (QTL) identification for many crop plants including wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Its benefit over traditional bi-parental mapping approaches depends on the extent of linkage disequilibrium in the mapping population. The objectives of this study were to determine linkage disequilibrium decay rate and population structure in a spring wheat association mapping panel (n = 285-294) and to identify markers associated with yield and yield components, morphological, phenological, and drought tolerance-related traits. The study was conducted under fully irrigated and rain-fed conditions at Greeley, CO, USA and Melkassa, Ethiopia in 2010 and 2011 (five total environments). Genotypic data were generated using diversity array technology markers. Linkage disequilibrium decay rate extended over a longer genetic distance for the D genome (6.8 cM) than for the A and B genomes (1.7 and 2.0 cM, respectively). Seven subpopulations were identified with population structure analysis. A stable QTL was detected for grain yield on chromosome 2DS both under irrigated and rain-fed conditions. A multi-trait region significant for yield and yield components was found on chromosome 5B. Grain yield QTL on chromosome 1BS co-localized with harvest index QTL. Vegetation indices shared QTL with harvest index on chromosome 1AL and 5A. After validation in relevant genetic backgrounds and environments, QTL detected in this study for yield, yield components and drought tolerance-related traits may be used in marker-assisted selection in wheat breeding programs.

Factors associated with perception of risk of contracting HIV among secondary school female learners in Mbonge subdivision of rural Cameroon.

IntroductionSince learners in secondary schools fall within the age group hardest hit by HIV/AIDS, it is obvious that these learners might be at high risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. However, little has been explored on the perception of risk of contracting HIV among secondary school learners in Cameroon. This study aimed at examining the perception of risk of contracting HIV among secondary school learners in Mbonge subdivision of rural Cameroon using the Health Belief Model (HBM) as framework.MethodsA quantitative, correlational design was adopted, using a self-administered questionnaire to collect data from 210 female learners selected through disproportional, stratified, simple random sampling technique, from three participating senior secondary schools. Statistics were calculated using SPSS version 20 software program.ResultsOnly 39.4% of the respondents perceived themselves to be at high risk of contracting HIV, though the majority, 54.0% were sexually active. Multinomial logistic regression analyses show that sexual risk behaviours (p=0.000) and the Integrated Value Mapping (IVM) of the perception components of the HBM are the most significant factors associated with perception of risk of contracting HIV at the level p<0.05.ConclusionThe findings of this study can play an instrumental role in the development of effective preventive and interventional messages for adolescents in Cameroon.

FULLY TIME-DOMAIN SCANNING OF EM NEAR-FIELD RADIATED BY RF CIRCUITS

This paper deals with planar scanning technique of electromagnetic (EM) near-fleld (NF) emitted by electronic printed circuit boards (PCBs) fully in the time-domain (TD). The proposed EM scanning metrology is essentially based on the NF test bench available at the IRSEEM laboratory. It comprises motorized mechanical structures for moving the probe interconnected to electronic measurement instruments and controlled by a driver PC. The synoptic of the test bench is presented and technically examined. The characteristics of difierent elements constituting the measurement chain of the TD test bench understudy are described. The NF metrology developed is originally focused on the measurement of time-dependent magnetic fleld H(t) dedicated to the radiated emission electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications. An innovative calibration technique of the loop probe for detecting H(t) is established in order to ensure the post processing and extraction of the measured NF data. Then, validations were carried out via comparison with difierent simulations run with standard commercial tools. Mathematical analyses were also conducted for the improvement of the measurement post processing. To realize the mapping of time-dependent EM fleld components, a software interface edited with the graphical language LabVIEW was emulated to synchronize the probe displacement and the data acquisition. An UWB amplifler with average gain about 30dB from DC to 300MHz was designed and fabricated in order to decrease the measurement noise and to improve the quality of measured signals. As results of the study, TD NF mapping is demonstrated successfully by measuring the EM radiation emitted by electronic planar circuits. The technique developed is extremely useful in the fleld of EMC engineering for predicting the transient perturbations susceptible to degrade electronic functions in complex systems encountered usually for the automotive and aeronautic applications.

Mapping of Strain Tensor Components in Polycrystalline Samples using EBSD.

ABSTRACTThe advance in Electron Backscatter Diffraction known as High Resolution EBSD has permitted the strain tensor components and neighbour disorientation measurements to be mapped at resolutions better than 2 parts in 10000. Following earlier research into this technique which was focused on verifying the sensitivity and accuracy of the measurements, recent studies have involved investigations on semiconductor and metallic polycrystalline materials. In particular observations of localized regions where residual strains exceeded the macroscopic yield stress have been thoroughly investigated to eliminate experimental error as a possible explanation. No such cause was found. Strain measurements on polycrystalline steels in uniaxial tension and during thermal stress relieving thermal treatment have also been carried out. Maps of the strain distribution during elastic loading and early stages of plastic flow showed hot spots of high strain as in the static tests but overall the measured elastic strain was equal to the applied strain.

Intermediary schemas and semantic linkages: an integrated architecture for complex digital archives

This article attempts to assess the feasibility of a Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS) based XML approach to integrated metadata for a complex digital archive. In particular, it aims to test whether such an approach can emulate two key features of RDF-based metadata architectures: the flexible reusability of components and the encoding of semantic linkages. In doing so, it seeks to establish whether this approach can be a viable alternative to ontology-based models for digital archive metadata. To do this, the standard use of METS as a packaging schema is extended as an 'intermediary schema' to enable the reuse of conceptual models within its architecture; in addition, the semantic mapping of components to concept repositories is achieved using the METS structural map and the Metadata Authority Description Schema (MADS) schema for controlled vocabularies.

How lava flows: New insights from applications of lidar technologies to lava flow studies

Mafic lava flows are common; for this reason, they have long been a focus of volcanological studies. However, field studies of both older and active flows have been hampered by difficulties in field access; active flows are hot, whereas older flows have rough and jagged surfaces that are difficult to traverse. As a result, morphometric studies of lava flows have generally lagged behind theoretical studies of flow behavior. The advent of laser scanning (LS) (i.e., lidar, light detection and ranging) technologies, both airborne mapping (ALSM) and terrestrial (TLS), is promoting detailed studies of lava flows by generating data suitable for production of high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs). These data are revolutionizing both the visual and quantitative analysis of lava flows. First and foremost, this technology allows accurate mapping of flow boundaries, particularly in vegetated areas where bare earth imaging dramatically improves mapping capabilities. Detailed imaging of flow surfaces permits mapping and measurement of flow components, such as channels, surface folds, cracks, blocks, and surface roughness. Differencing of preeruptive and posteruptive DEMs allows analysis of flow thickness variations, which can be related to the dynamics of lava emplacement. Multitemporal imaging of active flows provides information not only on the rates and locations of individual flow lobes, but also measurement of pulsed lava transport. Together these new measurement capabilities can be used to test proposed models of channel formation, lava tube formation, rates of flow advance, and flow conditions within lava channels; they also provide new ways to assess the hazard and risk posed by lava flow inundation. Early published studies illustrate the potential of applying lidar to volcanic terrain; it is clear, however, that the availability of high-resolution digital topography is poised to revolutionize the study of mafic lava flows.

Tunable microwave-photonic filter using frequency-to-time mapping-based delay lines

A new implementation of microwave-photonic filters (MPFs) based on tunable optical delay lines is proposed and demonstrated. The variable delay is based on mapping of the spectral components of an incoming waveform onto the time domain, the application of linearly-varying temporal phase offsets, and an inverse mapping back to the frequency domain. The linear phase correction is equivalent to a frequency offset, and realized though suppressed-carrier single-sideband modulation by a radio-frequency sine wave. The variable delay element, controlled by the selected frequency, is used in one arm of a two-tap MPF. In a proof-of-concept experiment, the free spectral range (FSR) of the MPF was varied by over a factor of four: between 1.2 GHz and 5.3 GHz.

Behavioral and structural evolution of SOA from OO

Service Oriented Architecture caters to the "Separation of Concerns" and incorporates reusability, granularity, modularity, componentization and interoperability. There are many software products that have been developed in the object-oriented paradigm. To incorporate the positive aspects of the service-oriented paradigm, they need to be evolved to the service-oriented domain. In this paper, we define an integrated approach towards consistent evolution of Object Oriented (OO) paradigm to the Service Oriented (SOA) domain. There are some proven Object Oriented Design Tools that can be used for Service Oriented Application design incorporating both the behavioral and structural aspects. The work in this paper involves a set of activities like formalizing the different UML diagrams, formal mapping of object components to service level components and establishing consistency among them. We also establish a traceability model for consistent evolution of Service Oriented Applications from existing Object Oriented Applications by mapping behavioral and structural artifacts of both domains. This will establish traceability from implementation phases back to the requirements phases of an SOA application.

Fidelity of Implementation of Research‐Based Instructional Strategies (RBIS) in Engineering Science Courses

AbstractBackgroundIncreasing attention is being paid to improvement in undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education through increased adoption of research‐based instructional strategies (RBIS), but high‐quality measures of faculty instructional practice do not exist to monitor progress.Purpose/HypothesisThe measure of how well an implemented intervention follows the original is called fidelity of implementation. This theory was used to address the research questions: What is the fidelity of implementation of selected RBIS in engineering science courses? That is, how closely does engineering science classroom practice reflect the intentions of the original developers? Do the critical components that characterize an RBIS discriminate between engineering science faculty members who claimed use of the RBIS and those who did not?Design/MethodA survey of 387 U.S. faculty teaching engineering science courses (e.g., statics, circuits, thermodynamics) included questions about class time spent on 16 critical components and use of 11 corresponding RBIS. Fidelity was quantified as the percentage of RBIS users who also spent time on corresponding critical components. Discrimination between users and nonusers was tested using chi square.ResultsOverall fidelity of the 11 RBIS ranged from 11% to 80% of users spending time on all required components. Fidelity was highest for RBIS with one required component: case‐based teaching, just‐in‐time teaching, and inquiry learning. Thirteen of 16 critical components discriminated between users and nonusers for all RBIS to which they were mapped.ConclusionsResults were consistent with initial mapping of critical components to RBIS. Fidelity of implementation is a potentially useful framework for future work in STEM undergraduate education.

High-density linkage mapping of yield components and epistatic interactions in maize with doubled haploid lines from four crosses

Grain yield (GY) is a genetically complex and physiologically multiplicative trait which can be decomposed into the components kernel number (KN) and 100-kernel weight (HKW). Genetic analysis of these less complex yield component traits may give insights into the genetic architecture and predictive ability of complex traits. Here, we investigated how the incorporation of component traits and epistasis in quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping approaches influences the accuracy of GY prediction. High-density genetic maps with 7,000–10,000 polymorphic single nucleotide polymorphisms were constructed for four biparental populations. The populations comprised between 99 and 227 doubled haploid maize lines which were phenotyped in field trials in two environments. Heritability was highest for HKW (88–89 %), intermediate for KN (72–80 %), and lowest for GY (64–83 %). Mapped QTL explained in total 21–55 %, 22–67 %, and 24–75 % of the genotypic variance for GY, KN, and HKW, respectively. Support intervals of QTL were short, indicating that QTL were located with high precision. Co-located QTLs with same parental origin of favorable alleles were detected within populations for different traits and between populations for the same traits. Using GY predictions based on the detected QTL, prediction accuracies (r) determined by cross validation ranged from 0.18 to 0.52. Epistatic models did not outperform the corresponding additive models. In conclusion, models based on QTL positions of component traits support the identification of favorable alleles for multiplicative traits and provide a basis to select superior inbred lines by marker-assisted breeding.
