Socio-Economic Construction: Inorganic Waste Valuation Through the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) on Cash Waqf Development

The environment is a place to live that must be maintained and preserved. The lack of public concern in preserving nature can cause environmental pollution and a lot of litter. Data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) Indonesia in 2022 show that input results from 202 districts/cities throughout Indonesia have the number of national landfills reaching 21.1 million tons. Of the total national waste production, 65.71% (13.9 million tons) can be managed, while the remaining 34.29% (7.2 million tons) have not been managed properly the presence of waste bank operations with sharia economic principles is one of the efforts to realize a clean, beautiful and healthy environment. In its operational system, Sharia Waste Bank (BSS) have several waste management programs that can generate profits in the form of cash. The purpose of this study is to provide a new program idea in the form of waqf savings from the sale of inorganic waste. This research uses qualitative research and development (R&D) methods to analyze operational activities and new programs that can be designed through BSS. The results showed that several programs contained in the BSS both at the regional level and several universities in Indonesia have been running well, and with the idea of saving waqf from the sale of inorganic waste, it provides new innovations and alternative cash waqf payments that use money instruments to make it easier for people who want to make waqf payments. Community literacy related to the benefits of waste management can also increase along with the innovation of waqf payment programs with inorganic waste instruments. The waqf payment mechanism uses waste by saving inorganic waste until a minimum of Rp. 10,000 is collected, to be recorded by the staff of the BSS and distributed to partners namely Islamic Financial Institutions Receiving Waqf Money (LKS-PWU) which has connections with the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI).

Construction of information management model of music colleges based on big data

Students can use the network music library to understand the connotation of works well, and their ability to perceive music can also be strengthened. The students’ music imagination space also becomes larger and larger with the enrichment of acoustic conditions. Applying big data information to the assessment of music courses forms a huge data collection in terms. Then professionalize the meaningful data to make it have power and insight. From the perspective of subject attributes, information management major, as one of the majors most related to the application of big data, focuses on information, information technology, and information systems. For comprehensive institution of higher learning, the diversification and multi-layering of big data results make it difficult to manage big data in professional music colleges. Despite the existing challenges in college music teaching, the big data era provides opportunities for teachers to enhance and optimize the educational experience. These advancements hold significant value for both students and educators. Focusing on the objectives, unique features, and limiting factors of big data in educational information management—particularly within music colleges—this paper proposes a model designed to support high-quality decision-making in information management.

Applying an intersectional lens to alcohol inequities: A conceptual framework.

Prior research has demonstrated substantial inequities in alcohol consumption, alcohol-related harms, and mortality. These inequities arise from a complex interplay of factors, unlikely addressed by single factor analyses or solutions. Conceptual frameworks, such as the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Research Framework, aim to reflect this complexity and support multifaceted research and action. This paper adapts the NIMHD Framework to focus on alcohol-related inequities and integrate core intersectionality principles. We developed the Intersectional Alcohol Inequities Framework (IAIF) through collaboration among leading scholars in alcohol, intersectionality, and policy modelling. In a workshop centred on the core ideas of intersectional frameworks, we identified key factors influencing alcohol consumption and related harms, using the United States as a case study. Using thematic analysis, we grouped the discussion points, then mapped them against the NIMHD Framework. We searched the literature to expand upon workshop insights, iteratively refining the framework until reaching idea saturation. To align with the core ideas of intersectionality, the IAIF introduced new elements absent in the NIMHD Framework, specifically a 'power' domain, a 'historical' level, and emphasis on relationality. We also incorporated a 'digital environment' domain, to reflect an important element of contemporary social context, as previously identified by other health equity scholars. We provided examples of their relevance to alcohol inequities, highlighted practical applications for stakeholders, and discussed adaptability to other public health issues and contexts. The Intersectional Alcohol Inequities Framework offers a tool for critical dialogue on how various factors, across multiple levels and domains, intersect to influence alcohol-related outcomes. It can provide support and guidance for researchers, facilitate the identification of research needs and gaps in current policies, support the design of new policies and interventions, and inform comprehensive patient management.

P28 Antibiotic susceptibility testing of coagulase-negative staphylococci species isolates from the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham

Abstract Background Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) are often considered non-pathogenic; however, they can be a major cause of chronic prosthetic joint infections (PJIs), associated with significant morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs in the UK. Oral antibiotic options are often limited due to resistance, making IV glycopeptide antibiotics (vancomycin and teicoplanin) the preferred first-line treatment. While vancomycin-resistant isolates are rare, susceptibility to teicoplanin can vary, with some studies indicating that resistance may occur in up to a quarter of cases. Teicoplanin once daily administration provides significant benefits for managing outpatient treatment of certain patients with PJIs, compared to vancomycin, which requires twice-daily dosing. Objectives The study aimed to assess local antibiotic susceptibility data in CNS over the past five years, particularly in patients with bone and joint infections from the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. The secondary objective was to determine the teicoplanin, daptomycin, and linezolid susceptibility profile of the included isolates. Methods This retrospective study involved a search of the Laboratory Information Management System (Telepath) to identify all isolates of CNS, including Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus haemolyticus, Staphylococcus hominis and Staphylococcus capitis from bone, tissue, or fluid samples obtained from patients who underwent operations at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, one of the largest centres of its kind in Europe. MALDI-TOF MS (bioMérieux) was used for rapid and accurate species identification, while VITEK2® (bioMérieux) was employed for antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Teicoplanin susceptibility was assessed using the Etest® teicoplanin (bioMérieux) and EUCAST breakpoints (≤4 = susceptible, >4 = resistant). Results We identified a total of 683 specimens that met the eligibility criteria. After excluding duplicate isolates and focusing on those that underwent a teicoplanin e-test, we included 47 isolates in the study. The median age of the patients was 69 years, including 29 males (62%) and 18 females (38%). The primary infection sites included the knee joint (36%) and hip joints (34%), followed by the shoulder, ankle joints, and miscellaneous specimens. S. epidermidis was the predominant species isolated from the analysed specimens (n=45, 96%). All isolates showed susceptibility to vancomycin, daptomycin, and linezolid. The highest antibiotic resistance recorded was for clindamycin (n=39, 83%), followed by trimethoprim (n=37, 79%) and fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, 65%). Susceptibility testing for additional oral agents revealed significant resistance to tetracycline (n=28, 60%). and rifampicin (n=20, 42%). Results for teicoplanin susceptibility indicated that 16 (34%) isolates exhibited resistance based on EUCAST breakpoints. Among all isolates, 21 (45%) were sensitive to at least one oral option besides linezolid. Notably, we observed an increased rate of teicoplanin resistance in 2023 and 2024 compared to 2020 and 2022. The study did not assess the impact of antibiotic use or other factors that could contribute to antibiotic resistance. Conclusions S. epidermidis was the predominant species identified among CNS associated with bone and joint infections. Most isolates exhibited resistance to commonly prescribed oral antibiotics. Furthermore, there has been a growing resistance to teicoplanin over the years, necessitating the need for further studies to explore the underlying factors.

IMPLEMENTASI SECURITY INFORMATION AND EVENT MANAGEMENT UNTUK MENCEGAH SERANGAN DEFACE PADA SERVER TERINTEGRASI TELEGRAM

Deface attacks are critical threats that disrupt server integrity and damage an organization's reputation. This research aims to design a Wazuh-based Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system integrated with the Telegram Bot to detect, prevent, and provide real-time notifications against deface attacks. The method used is the Network Development Life Cycle (NDLC), which has three main stages: requirement analysis, system design, and prototype simulation. The implementation was conducted on a virtual environment using Ubuntu Server 22.04 as the Wazuh Manager and Parrot Security OS as the attack simulator. The results showed that Wazuh successfully detected three main types of attacks: File Upload Vulnerability, Remote Code Execution (RCE), and Webshell through log analysis and custom rules. Integration with Telegram Bot enables instant notification when threats are detected, along with automated responses such as directory restores, attacker IP address blocking, and proactive mitigation. Tests prior to Wazuh's implementation proved the server's vulnerability to file modification, while after implementation, the system was able to prevent illegal changes with 100% effectiveness. The conclusion of this study confirms that the combination of Wazuh SIEM and Telegram Bot improves server security through early detection, rapid response, and centralized monitoring. This solution not only reduces the risk of deface but also provides an efficient notification mechanism for administrators. Recommendations for development include adding attack variations, improving active response, and optimizing integration with other platforms.

Identification of diagnostic biomarkers and dissecting immune microenvironment with crosstalk genes in the POAG and COVID-19 nexus

An underlying association between primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and COVID-19 has been hypothesized, but the causal link and shared mechanisms remain unclear. This study integrates epidemiological and bioinformatics approaches to investigate their relationship, aiming to identify common molecular pathways and validate clinical correlations. Epidemiological data from 3,015 participants in the CHARLS database were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards models to assess the association between COVID-19 and POAG, with stratification by gender, smoking status, and alcohol consumption. Concurrently, gene expression datasets from GEO (POAG: GSE27276; COVID-19: GSE171110, GSE152418) were used to identify 57 crosstalk genes (CGs) via differential expression analysis. Machine learning algorithms (LASSO, SVM-RFE, Random Forest) were applied to screen POAG diagnostic biomarkers from CGs, followed by construction of transcription factor (TF)-microRNA (miRNA)-protein-compound regulatory networks and consensus clustering to characterize COVID-19 immune microenvironment subtypes. Epidemiological analyses revealed that COVID-19 was an independent risk factor for POAG, with adjusted odds ratios (ORs) of 12.775–15.688 and hazard ratios (HRs) of 4.893–5.060 (all P < 0.001), with stronger associations in males (OR = 15.054, HR = 5.645) and smokers (OR = 29.828, HR = 9.323). HDL levels were significantly higher in POAG patients (P = 0.028), while vb001_s1 positivity was negatively associated with POAG (P < 0.001). Bioinformatics identified CGs enriched in inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and hypoxia pathways. Five potential biomarkers (CA12, ECRG4, CEBPD, HBB, HBA2) showed high diagnostic efficacy (AUC > 0.9) but limited specificity (expressed in uveitis and diabetic retinopathy). COVID-19 patients were stratified into three clusters, with Cluster B exhibiting hyperactive immune microenvironments characterized by elevated HLA class I/II and immune checkpoint genes (CTLA4, PDCD1LG2) in antigen-presenting cells and T cells. This study provides epidemiological and molecular evidence linking POAG to COVID-19, highlighting inflammation and immune dysregulation as shared mechanisms. Gender and smoking modify this association, warranting targeted POAG screening in male COVID-19 survivors and smokers. While identified biomarkers require specificity improvement, findings underscore the need for mechanistic studies (e.g., ACE2-mediated ocular injury, T-cell neuroinflammation) to validate causality and inform clinical management.

Seasonal phenology of Empoasca fabae (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) in Québec, Canada.

Climate change is reshaping insect population dynamics in North America, notably impacting the migratory pest Empoasca fabae (Harris) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae). While its phenology is well studied in the United States, knowledge gaps exist regarding its dynamics in Eastern Canada, one of its northernmost migration areas. Our study integrates degree-day models, CLIMEX ecological niche modeling, and field-collected data from Québec to assess E. fabae seasonal phenology and monthly climatic suitability. Our results indicate that E. fabae completes one to two generations in Québec, with earlier emergence and higher generational potential in warmer southeastern regions compared to cooler northeastern regions. CLIMEX modeling showed that suitable climatic conditions for E. fabae growth begin in April, peak from May to September, and decline by November. First adult captures occurred from late May to early June, with population peaks in June-July and a decrease by September. Observed adult peaks occurred earlier than predicted by degree-day models, suggesting that additional environmental factors, such as wind patterns and host plant availability, influence early-season population dynamics. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of E. fabae phenology in Québec and highlights the importance of incorporating regional climate to predict population trends. Further research on diapause onset, late-season persistence, and migration patterns is needed to refine predictive models and inform pest management strategies in Québec. Understanding these factors will be essential in mitigating potential economic impacts amid ongoing climate change.

Problems and countermeasures in eye care and vision screening services for children aged 0 to 6 years

The critical period for visual function and ocular structure development occurs from 0 to 6 years of age, making standardized eye care and vision screening services during this stage vital for improving lifelong visual outcomes and quality of life. In China, policy-driven initiatives have established a preliminary eye care and vision screening service system for this age group. However, problems such as insufficient public awareness, limitations in screening technology, fragmented service networks, and decentralized data management systems hinder early intervention and follow-up of abnormal visual development. To address these issues, a collaborative effort involving the government, healthcare institutions, schools, and families is essential. By integrating clinical medicine with preventive care, a tiered service network for medical care should be developed. Leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize screening technologies and establishing a nationally unified, standardized child eye health information management system are crucial to create a closed-loop, digitalized management model integrating health education, screening and early warning, precise diagnosis and treatment, visual rehabilitation, and intelligent follow-up. Multisectoral action is essential to advance pediatric eye care and vision screening services and lay the foundation for lifelong ocular health management.

Gamification as a Catalyst for Effective Construction Management Education

The construction management (CM) discipline presents a unique opportunity for gamification, as it thrives on creating immersive experiences that replicate real-world scenarios, aligning well with the practical and applied nature of CM education. Thus, this study through a bibliometric analysis and a narrative review, explored the application of gamified approaches in CM education by examining studies published and indexed in Scopus in the last fourteen years. Network visualization and science mapping were done using Biblioshiny™ software in R Studio and Visualization of Similarities viewer. Findings revealed four crucial applications of gamification in CM vis; (1) game theory for effective decision-making, (2) construction project management and education, (3) design and information management in construction projects and (4) intelligent and sustainable construction. Additionally, prominent gamified approaches in CM education can be categorized into tabletop games, digital games and computer-assisted games. Practically, the submissions of this study offer educators the ability to create more engaging and interactive learning environments that foster a deeper understanding of CM principles, improve knowledge retention and ultimately prepare students for successful careers in the construction industry.

Propaganda during Economic Crises: Reference Point Adjustment in Economic News

ABSTRACT In the era of democratic backsliding, information management and manipulation have become a central feature of electoral autocracies. Despite many electoral autocracies experiencing deep economic crises, the incumbents were able to hold onto power. This resiliency is puzzling due to the widespread notion of economic crises leading to regime collapse. In this paper, I introduce an understudied information management strategy, which I call reference point adjustment, employed by pro-government media during economic crises. I argue that government-controlled media increases negative reports about foreign economies during domestic economic turmoil to make the local situation seem comparatively better. Leveraging unique media data from Turkey – spanning 700,000 articles and 13.3 million unique sentences from two major newspapers and an online outlet over 2.5 years – and using supervised machine learning, I find a sharp rise (48% increase) in coverage of foreign economy news by pro-government outlets during an economic crisis. I also observe a significant increase in negative foreign economy news exposure (83% increase) within pro-government media compared to opposition counterparts during these times. This research aims to deepen our understanding of authoritarian politics and media behavior and sheds further light on the democratically backsliding regimes’ playbook.

Perception of Customer-Supplier Interactions During Laboratory Analysis at the Tengandogo University Hospital Centre, Burkina Faso

Internal customer-supplier interactions during laboratory analysis performance often cause difficulties in collaboration. The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of this group of actors about the quality of their interactions during the pre- and post-analytical phases of laboratory analysis. This was a descriptive cross-sectional study of the perceptions of the laboratory and clinical staff at the Tengandogo University Hospital. The study results showed that the laboratory staff had a low perception of the quality of laboratory test requests, with a positive perception of 21.4% (06/28) for the formulation of test requests and 14.8% (04/27) for the justification of test requests. The results also indicate a low perception of reagent availability and access to tests among clinical process personnel, with a positive perception of 39.4% (37/94) of reagent availability and 36.2% (34/94) of access to tests. The results also reveal a difference in perception between laboratory staff and clinical process staff with respect to the speed with which biological samples are received and the objectivity of laboratory analysis results. Limitations in material resources, information management, and the implementation of quality assurance are thought to be at the root of these poor perceptions. In order to improve these perceptions, it is necessary to have equipment and consumables adapted to the demands and to improve information management in the laboratory.

Increased prevalence of cardio-cerebrovascular risk factors during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown: a large, single center, cross-sectional study

BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic prompted over 170 countries to implement lockdowns, significantly altering lifestyles and potentially impacting cardio-cerebrovascular risk factors (CCVRFs). This study evaluates changes in CCVRFs before, during, and after the lockdown, stratified by population subgroups. We aim to mitigate the lockdown’s impact on CCVRFs, address knowledge gaps, and inform future health management strategies.MethodsThis cross-sectional study analyzed preventive health assessment data of individuals at the Health Management Center of Shengjing Hospital, China Medical University. The study covers three timeframes: pre-pandemic (January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2019), during the pandemic lockdown (January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2022), and after the pandemic lockdown (January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023). The primary outcome was the change in prevalence of hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, systemic inflammation index, and insulin resistance index before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Additionally, multivariate linear or logistic regression analysis the association between changes in CCVRFs and the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.ResultsThis study included 46,958 participants: 21,062 pre-pandemic, 18,164 during lockdown, and 7732 post-lockdown. Compared to pre- and post-lockdown periods, diabetes mellitus incidence significantly increased during lockdown. Systemic immune indicators (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio [PLR], systemic immune-inflammation index [SII]) and insulin resistance markers (triglyceride-glucose index [TyG], TyG-body mass index [TyG-BMI]) also increased significantly. Subgroup analyses revealed more pronounced changes in CCVRFs among individuals over 60 during lockdown. Multivariate analysis showed a significant association between lockdown and CCVRFs, with adjusted odds ratios (OR) and β values (95% confidence intervals) as follows: diabetes mellitus 1.37 (1.28–1.47), PLR 5.44 (4.77–6.11), NLR 0.05 (0.04–0.06), SII 5.28 (1.91–8.65), TyG 0.03 (0.02–0.05), and TyG-BMI 4.16 (3.47–4.84).ConclusionsIn this cross-sectional study, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, systemic inflammation index, and insulin resistance index increased during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, highlighting the importance of proactively managing CCVRFs during and after the pandemic lockdowns.

Coupling spatio-temporal distribution to provide more informative population status and management recommendations

Accurate stock assessment (SA) is an essential basis to ensuring effective fisheries management. The trade-off between data input and output accuracy makes the surplus production model (SPM), which lacks spatial information, a widely used stock assessment model. We coupled species spatio-temporal distribution (STD) with SPM to better understand stock status and facilitate (targeted and spatially refined) fisheries management. In our coupled STD-SA framework, the spatio-temporal model not only provides accurate biomass index for the SPM, but also provides critical habitat assessments to better complement localized spatial information on stock status and factors contributing to the risk of population fluctuation. We demonstrated our framework with a commercially important fish population of Trichiurus lepturus in the Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem (YSLME), which was once on the verge of population collapse. The results suggested that the population size has recovered to an acceptable level since 2017 and is currently in a healthy state (98.2% of probability). But the Bohai Sea still needs to be emphasized for conservation. The population can be further exploited; however, small portions of localized habitat still need to be focused on. Our framework can help to identify and implement targeted interventions to address localized stock fluctuation.

Behavioral responses of migratory caribou to semi-permeable roads in Arctic Alaska

Migration conveys many benefits to species, ecosystems, and people but relies upon connected landscapes. Anthropogenic development can present barriers for migrants, but many barriers are semi-permeable, allowing unhindered or delayed passage. We used a modified version of the Barrier Behavior Analysis (BaBA) to investigate seasonal movement responses to five roads in northwestern Alaska by adult female Western Arctic Herd caribou (Rangifer tarandus) from 2009 to 2024. Our analyses revealed some altered movement in response to all focal roads. We found that the roads were semi-permeable barriers to movement, with altered behaviors including bouncing away, moving back-and-forth, and tracing along roads. Overall, 63.1% of collared animals encountered (entered a road-specific buffer) at least one focal road. Of these, 61.5% displayed altered movements. At the scale of individual encounters with roads, we found altered movement in 27.1% of road encounters. Most encounters occurred during fall migration and caribou with altered behavior spent an average of 9.4 days longer near focal roads than those with unaltered movement. Altered movements were balanced among the behavioral responses. Most altered movements occurred near the Red Dog mining road (60.3%) or during fall migration (51.9%) but lasted longest during winter (17.2 days on average). We confirm prior findings of altered fall movements near the Red Dog road and demonstrate that movement behavior is also altered around other roads and in other seasons. Nonetheless, many collared caribou did not display altered movements in response to roads, emphasizing the need for further research to understand the mechanistic drivers of caribou movement responses. Given increasing pressures for infrastructure development and global challenges facing migratory species, it is critical to identify mitigation measures and inform management decisions seeking to balance responsible development with conservation of natural systems, including migratory species and the people that rely upon them.

Sistem Informasi Manajemen dalam Evaluasi Pembelajaran di SMK Sinar Husni Helvetia

This study aims to examine the implementation of Management Information Systems (MIS) in the evaluation of learning at SMK Sinar Husni Helvetia, particularly in the areas of information collection, data analysis, and dissemination through online applications such as Google Forms, Quizizz, Wordwall, and Google Classroom. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that MIS supports teachers in designing, distributing, and analyzing evaluation data efficiently and effectively. The use of online applications allows learning assessments to be more practical, interactive, and to provide immediate feedback. This system contributes to more structured teaching and learning activities, enabling schools to achieve educational goals more effectively. The study also highlights the importance of integrating technology with ethical and religious values in developing digital-based educational information systems.

Factors Affecting Employee Performance in Providing Online Tax Reporting Services

In recent years, there have been many cases related to the Directorate General of Taxes. This phenomenon is to find out whether the use of a good management information system can affect employee performance in order to minimize cases such as those carried out by tax employees today. This study aims to analyze the influence of management information systems and knowledge management elements on the performance of KPP (Tax Service Office) employees in a company. The method used is quantitative with a survey approach, involving all active employees as samples through saturated sampling techniques. Testing was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Square (PLS). The results of the study showed that explicit knowledge management and structured training were important factors in improving employee performance. Meanwhile, organizational culture and implicit knowledge showed a positive influence, but were not strong enough to significantly drive performance. Meanwhile, emotional intelligence and competence have not shown optimal contributions to improving performance. These findings underline the importance of focusing on strengthening the knowledge documentation system and ongoing training as the main strategy for improving the performance of tax officials, especially in the era of digitalization of public services.

HierLabelNet: A Two-Stage LLMs Framework with Data Augmentation and Label Selection for Geographic Text Classification

Earth observation data serve as a fundamental resource in Earth system science. The rapid advancement of remote sensing and in situ measurement technologies has led to the generation of massive volumes of data, accompanied by a growing body of geographic textual information. Efficient and accurate classification and management of these geographic texts has become a critical challenge in the field. However, the effectiveness of traditional classification approaches is hindered by several issues, including data sparsity, class imbalance, semantic ambiguity, and the prevalence of domain-specific terminology. To address these limitations and enable the intelligent management of geographic information, this study proposes an efficient geographic text classification framework based on large language models (LLMs), tailored to the unique semantic and structural characteristics of geographic data. Specifically, LLM-based data augmentation strategies are employed to mitigate the scarcity of labeled data and class imbalance. A semantic vector database is utilized to filter the label space prior to inference, enhancing the model’s adaptability to diverse geographic terms. Furthermore, few-shot prompt learning guides LLMs in understanding domain-specific language, while an output alignment mechanism improves classification stability for complex descriptions. This approach offers a scalable solution for the automated semantic classification of geographic text for unlocking the potential of ever-expanding geospatial big data, thereby advancing intelligent information processing and knowledge discovery in the geospatial domain.

Vapor Pressure Deficit Thresholds and Their Impacts on Gross Primary Productivity in Xinjiang Arid Grassland Ecosystems

Understanding vegetation responses to atmospheric drought is critical for arid ecosystem management under climate change. However, the threshold of the response mechanism of grassland in arid regions to atmospheric drought remains unclear. This study investigates how vapor pressure deficit (VPD) regulates grassland gross primary productivity (GPP) in Xinjiang, China, using MODIS and other multi-source remote sensing data (2000–2020). The results show intensified atmospheric drought in central Tianshan Mountains and southern Junggar Basin, with VPD exhibiting a widespread increasing trend (significant increase: 15.75%, extremely significant increase: 4.68%). Intensified atmospheric drought occurred in the central Tianshan Mountains and southern Junggar Basin. Integrated analyses demonstrate that VPD has a dominant negative impact on GPP (path coefficient = −0.58, p &lt; 0.05), primarily driven by atmospheric drought stress. A ridge regression-derived threshold was identified at 0.61 kPa, marking the point where VPD transitions from stimulating to suppressing productivity. Spatially, 58.75% of the total area showed a significant increase in GPP. These findings advance the mechanistic understanding of atmospheric drought impacts on arid ecosystems and inform adaptive grassland management strategies.
