• Jan 21, 2026
 • The TQM Journal
 • Shang Gao + 1 more

Purpose The construction industry continues to face persistent quality challenges despite advancements in quality management (QM) and the integration of modern-day technologies. This study aims to explore the concept of Quality 4.0 in the construction sector and proposes a conceptual framework that considers the industry's unique characteristics. Design/methodology/approach This research is based on a literature review of Quality 4.0, Industry 4.0 (I4.0) and QM in construction. A targeted review of existing frameworks with a focus on their technology, processes and people leads to the development of a conceptual framework for Construction Quality 4.0 (CONQ4.0). Findings The study finds that while I4.0 technologies have been increasingly applied to QM as well as the increasing popularity of Quality 4.0, a comprehensive framework for Quality 4.0 in construction is lacking. The proposed CONQ4.0 framework builds on the established QM practices (i.e quality control, quality assurance and total quality management) and integrates three key dimensions: technology, process and people. It is also supported by critical enablers such as data management, lean principles and capability development. Practical implications The framework provides a foundation for construction firms to enhance QM through digitalisation, process optimisation and workforce capability development. It also highlights the importance of subcontractors' engagement and stakeholder alignment to ensure consistent quality practices across projects. Originality/value By contextualising Quality 4.0 within construction, this study offers a structured framework that balances technological innovation with human and process-centric considerations. The findings provide valuable insights for construction professionals and researchers aiming to enhance quality performance in the I4.0 era.

Delivering oral health care in gestational diabetes: an interview study to develop a theory and evidence-derived model for healthcare professionals
 • Jan 20, 2026
 • International Diabetes Nursing
 • Camilla Böhme Kristensen + 3 more

Introduction: Women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have a higher prevalence of periodontal disease, whilst oral health is implicated in blood glucose management and GDM development. Oral health may also impact birth weight and prematurity; however, it is often an overlooked topic in maternity care. The complexity and intensity of GDM, and the higher prevalence of psychological distress associated with this condition, call for a tailored approach to oral health care in GDM. Oral health deserves more attention in GDM considering its impact on diabetes and pregnancy-related outcomes. Aim and methods: This study aimed to explore the support needs of women regarding oral health care within the context of GDM management and to identify specific intervention strategies to address these needs. Semi-structured interviews inspired by co-design principles were conducted, and thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. The output was the development of a theory and evidence-derived care delivery model for healthcare professionals (HCPs) to promote oral health in GDM. Results and conclusions: The model instructs HCPs in oral health care delivery in GDM. Specifically, the model describes what is needed to engage women with GDM in oral health care and proposes specific intervention strategies to accommodate these needs. The model can also be applied in maternity care to provide HCPs with a structured approach to addressing oral health. The utilisation of our model may improve oral health status, blood glucose management, and health outcomes for women with GDM.

Social–Ecological Systems for Sustainable Water Management Under Anthropopressure: Bibliometric Mapping and Case Evidence from Poland
 • Jan 19, 2026
 • Sustainability
 • Grzegorz Dumieński + 3 more

The aim of this article is to present the social–ecological system (SES) as a unit of analysis for sustainable water management under conditions of anthropogenic pressure in Poland. In the face of accelerating climate change and growing human impacts, Polish water systems are exposed to increasing ecological stress and to material and immaterial losses affecting local communities. The SES approach provides an integrative analytical framework that links ecological and social components, enabling a holistic view of adaptive and governance processes at multiple spatial scales, from municipalities to areas that transcend administrative boundaries. Methodologically, this study triangulates three complementary approaches to strengthen explanatory inference. This conceptual SES review defines the analytical categories used in the paper, the bibliometric mapping (Scopus database with VOSviewer) identifies dominant research streams and underexplored themes, and the qualitative Polish case studies operationalize these categories to diagnose mechanisms, feedbacks, and governance vulnerabilities under anthropogenic pressure. The bibliometric analysis identifies the main research streams at the intersection of SES, water management and sustainable development, revealing thematic clusters related to climate change adaptation, environmental governance, ecosystem services and hydrological extremes. The case studies - the 2024 flood, the 2022 ecological disaster in the Odra River, and water deficits associated with lignite opencast mining in Eastern Wielkopolska - illustrate how anthropogenic pressure and climate-related hazards interact within local SES and expose governance gaps. Particular attention is paid to attitudes and social participation, understood as configurations of behaviors, knowledge and emotions that shape decision-making in local self-government, especially at the municipal level. This study argues that an SES-based perspective can contribute to building the resilience of water systems, improving the integration of ecological and social dimensions and supporting more sustainable water management in Poland.

Harmonising School Leadership And Foundations For Human Resource Development In Early Childhood Education
 • Jan 19, 2026
 • International Journal of Education Management and Religion
 • Ahmad Nur Ismail + 4 more

This study aims to identify research gaps in the harmonisation of school leadership and foundations in the development of human resources (HR) within Early Childhood Education (ECE) institutions. Although several studies address the relationship between leadership and HR development, research specifically examining the dynamics between school leadership and foundations in the context of ECE remains limited. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data collection techniques include in-depth observations, and interviews. The data obtained is analysed through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the educator standards at TKIT Nurussyifa encompass four key competencies: pedagogical, social, personal, and professional. Each teacher is expected to possess these competencies to effectively fulfil their responsibilities. The headteacher’s role is to lead and guide teachers in school activities and programmes, while teachers are accountable for the learning process. The foundation plays a crucial role in supporting the headteacher and teachers, as well as managing the school’s operational funding. In terms of management and HR development, the foundation seeks to enhance teaching quality through selective and intensive teacher recruitment. The headteacher also actively contributes to the professional development of teachers through relevant seminars and training. The practical implications of this study suggest that school and foundation managers must continue to collaborate to create an environment conducive to the development of quality human resources. Consequently, this harmonisation benefits not only the educational institution but also positively impacts students and the broader community.

 • Jose Carlo Serraon

This study evaluates the operational efficiency of shared services among selected logistics companies in Metro Manila with the objective of establishing an operational efficiency benchmarking framework across key business functions, namely Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Business Development. The study employed a descriptive, comparative, and evaluative research design and utilized stratified purposive sampling. Data were collected from 43 managers and supervisors through a validated survey questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, weighted means, and nonparametric tests, specifically the Kruskal–Wallis H Test and the Mann–Whitney U Test, to determine significant differences in shared service evaluations and operational challenges across functional areas. The findings revealed that shared services across all four functions were perceived as “very evident” in terms of effectiveness. High levels of performance were observed in cost optimization, operational flexibility, robustness of information technology infrastructure, and stakeholder alignment. However, gaps were identified in recruitment alignment, proactivity in the adoption of new technologies, and responsiveness to market and industry trends. Logistics and Supply Chain Management emerged as the highest-performing function, while Business Development received the lowest, though still favorable, evaluation. Despite strong performance ratings, operational challenges were consistently observed across all functions, with Logistics and Supply Chain Management experiencing the most pronounced challenges. Overall, the results indicate that shared services contribute to economies of scale, improved service quality, and strategic business growth, while also revealing opportunities for innovation, process optimization, and continuous improvement. The study supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by demonstrating how efficient shared service models enhance productivity and organizational performance in logistics firms. Its sustainability impact lies in strengthening institutional efficiency, operational resilience, and long-term competitiveness through standardized processes and continuous performance benchmarking.

Association between employment type and employee lifestyle among individuals under the same health insurance society
 • Jan 16, 2026
 • [Nihon koshu eisei zasshi] Japanese journal of public health
 • Yugo Ikeda + 2 more

Objectives The prevalence of metabolic syndrome, a major risk factor for lifestyle-related diseases, varies across occupations. We aimed to clarify how employment type contributed to lifestyle differences among individuals covered by one health insurance society. Methods Among 17,855 individuals covered by the health insurance society of a Japanese automobile manufacturer who had undergone specific health checkup, we analyzed 13,188 individuals aged 40-64 years, after excluding those with confounding prior medical histories or current medication use. The participants were classified into four groups: headquarter employees (including indirect corporate functions such as management, human resources, general affairs, public relations, and vehicle development), dealership employees (sales representatives, maintenance technicians, and clerical staff), factory employees (working in the company's production plants), and affiliated employees (e.g., component-manufacturing workers in medium-sized companies, real estate employees, and financial sector employees). Descriptive statistics were calculated by sex using responses to questionnaires collected during routine health checkup appointments. Univariate logistic regression analyses were then conducted, with each lifestyle factor as the dependent variable and employment type as the independent variable, followed by multivariable logistic regression adjusted for age (five strata). Odds ratios (ORs), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated, with headquarter employees as the reference group. Results Among men, the dealership employees had the highest prevalence of low physical activity, with 80.1% reporting exercising for ≥30 min only ≤1 day per week (OR: 1.97, CI: 1.77-2.20). Headquarter employees had the highest proportion of walking for <1 h per day (69.1%, reference). The factory employees reported the highest rate of slower walking speeds vs their peers (60.3%, OR: 1.60, CI: 1.45-1.77). The dealership employees also tended to have less healthy overall lifestyle behaviors: 43.4% smoked (OR: 2.55, CI: 2.29-2.83), 48.7% ate dinner within two hours of bedtime (OR: 1.73, CI: 1.57-1.91), 30.4% skipped breakfast ≥3 times per week (OR: 3.08, CI: 2.70-3.50), and 14.0% consumed ≥2 alcoholic drinks daily (OR: 1.95, CI: 1.63-2.34). The factory employees were less motivated to change their lifestyles (38.3%, OR: 2.29, CI: 2.05-2.57), and were less likely to participate in health guidance programs (85.7%, OR: 2.58, CI: 2.27-2.92).Conclusion Employee lifestyles differed significantly by job type in our cohort, although all were covered by the same health insurance society. Employment type also associated with motivation to adopt healthier behaviors. Occupational characteristics should therefore be considered when designing interventions to promote lifestyle improvements using health-related guidance.

The results of the conducted scientific research indicate that the existing system of accounting and reporting does not fully meet the interests of internal and external users in information. The modern management system requires the use of a significantly larger volume of information and information that differs in its composition and quality of content. There is a particularly acute need for information of an operational and strategic nature. Operational requests of management are resolved through the organization of management accounting and the formation of management reporting. Therefore, the further development of effective management in conditions of international integration, uncertainty, change, and significant dynamics of processes is impossible without the formation of strategic accounting and reporting that correspond to the needs of the time. For accounting and analytical support, strategic management requires a model of strategic accounting and reporting that corresponds to the specifics of the activities of the business entity and the external environment. Therefore, information arrays and their flows must be formed depending on management needs and the individual characteristics and capabilities of each specific business entity, taking into account the threats and challenges of the external environment. Strategic accounting in Ukraine is still at the stage of perception and acceptance, which indicates the need to form a theoretical, methodological, and practical foundation for its implementation. Information arrays and information flows of strategic accounting must be formed based on data from internal and external sources, which will make it possible to align the chosen strategy with resources, risks, and performance results of each business entity. Therefore, the list of strategic accounting information and the requirements for it should be formed within the framework of the strategic policy of the enterprise. The task of strategic accounting lies in providing information support for the process of making a choice among available strategic alternatives and informational support for the effective implementation of already selected strategies. The use of the approach of forming a unified accounting and analytical system of information support for management based on the combination of financial and non-financial information from internal and external data will make it possible to build an information system that is adequate to the needs of management, which at its core will be aimed at using information to determine and successfully implement the enterprise’s strategy. Adequate provision of strategic information in accordance with management needs will contribute to achieving the defined strategy in the most rational and effective way

TMPRSS2 rs12329760 variant as a prognostic marker for prostate cancer progression.
 • Jan 13, 2026
 • Molecular biology reports
 • Khaoula Elghazali + 7 more

TMPRSS2, a transmembrane serine protease and common partner in oncogenic TMPRSS2-ERG fusions, is regulated by androgen receptors and is implicated in prostate tumorigenesis. The nonsynonymous SNP rs12329760 (C > T; Val160Met) has been hypothesized to alter TMPRSS2 proteolytic activity, potentially enhancing AR signaling and contributing to aggressive tumor behavior. However, data on this variant in North African populations remain sparse. A case-control study was conducted including 50 Moroccan men diagnosed with prostate cancer (PCa) and 50 matched controls. Genotyping of rs12329760 was performed using TaqMan allelic discrimination assays. Genotype and allele distributions were analyzed and correlated with clinicopathological factors, including serum PSA levels, Gleason score, family history, smoking status, and other demographic or clinical variables. The CT (44% vs. 26%, P = 0.016) and TT (20% vs. 8%, P = 0.031) genotypes, as well as the T allele (43% vs. 21%, P = 0.002), were significantly more frequent in PCa patients than controls and were associated with increased disease risk. Carriers of the CT + TT genotypes exhibited significantly higher PSA levels (≥ 10 ng/mL, P = 0.004), Gleason scores (≥ 7, P = 0.018).Significant associations were also observed with positive family history (P < 0.001) and smoking (P < 0.001). No associations were found with age at diagnosis, T-stage. The TMPRSS2 rs12329760 T allele is associated with elevated prostate cancer risk and more severe clinicopathological features in Moroccan men. These findings highlight the potential prognostic relevance of the V160M variant and emphasize the need for further cellular and molecular studies to elucidate its functional role in AR signaling, TMPRSS2-ERG fusion biology, and ERG-related tumor aggressiveness. Such insights may contribute to the development of risk-stratified PCa management and tailored active surveillance strategies.

The Role of Atsar in the Development of Zakat Objects (Study of Mushonaf Abi Syaibah)
 • Jan 13, 2026
 • Al Qalam: Jurnal Ilmiah Keagamaan dan Kemasyarakatan
 • Muhammad Hamid Muhammad Bahamisy + 1 more

<p>This study analyzes the role of a number of companions' atsars and tabi'in (followers) regarding zakat—including jewelry/gold and silver, agricultural products, honey, gems, livestock, and recommendations for submission to authorities—in the development of zakat management in Indonesia. Using a library research method with a normative-comparative approach, primary data were collected from al-Mu'minin.<em>ṣ</em><em>Annaf</em>Ibn Abī Shaybah and national regulations (Law No. 23/2011, PP No. 14/2014, Permenag No. 52/2014 and its amendments), then mapped through two-column thematic coding and cross-atsar matrix↔regulatory articles. The results show normative consistency that the object of zakat is determined by the substance of the value and economic utility of the assets, not merely the form or function of use; this principle is in line with the "umbrella" architecture of Indonesian regulations, so that modern commodities not expressly stated in the texts (e.g., palm oil, horticulture, honey, or gem trade) are still captured through the categories of agriculture/plantations/forestry, commerce/industry, fisheries, money &amp; securities, and income &amp; services. The findings of this study also show that the series of atsar in al-Mu<em>ṣ</em><em>Annaf</em>Ibn Abī Shaybah can be used as a normative basis to support the renewal and development of zakat management in Indonesia.</p>

 • Jan 13, 2026
 • Mediterranean Journal of Social Sciences
 • Joseph Adeshola Adekeye

Successive administrations in Nigeria since independence have made frantic effort towards improving the performance of civil servants through the conduct of training programmes for all categories of employees. However, there are mixed reactions among scholars with regards to the impact of training programmes on the performance of civil servants. Therefore, the main objective of the study is to assess the impact of training programmes on the performance of Nigerian civil service during the fourth republic. Methodologically, the paper adopts a qualitative approach for the purpose of obtaining the required materials through textual content analysis of documents from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Civil Service Institute (PSI), Centre for Managing development (CMD), Office the Head of Service of the Federation, Office of the Head of Service of the Federation and empirical literature. The findings of the study reveal that effective training is imperative towards the enhancement of employees’ performance. However, the impact of training programme on the performance of the Nigerian civil service have not be quite impressive due to lack of effective implementation of training programmes, poor funding, inefficient trainers lack of adequate facilities and inability to determine employees’ training needs, outdated curriculum among others. The study therefore recommends for improved funding, determination of training needs, engagement of qualified trainers, review of training curriculum, use of modern technology and feedback machanism. This study presents an in-depth experimental investigation into the effects of varying bed materials on flow velocity distribution in open channels. A critical consideration in hydraulic engineering and sustainable water resource management. Conducted within a controlled laboratory flume setup, the research examined how different sediment types, including vegetation (at varying lengths and arrangements), gravel (of multiple grain sizes), and sand (of different densities), influence hydraulic parameters such as flow velocity, discharge, water depth, hydraulic radius, and Reynolds number. Using flow current meters and hydraulic modelling principles, velocity profiles were produced for each bed condition using flow current meters and the concepts of hydraulic modeling. The results show that bed material dramatically changes sediment transport dynamics, turbulence properties, and flow resistance. Finer sands improved flow velocity because of their smoother surfaces and lower roughness coefficients, but vegetation increased flow resistance because of drag effects. These realizations lay the groundwork for creating channel systems that are more effective and resistant to erosion. The findings provide useful information for agricultural irrigation, urban drainage planning, and environmental hydraulics, with applications in sustainable water management and civil infrastructure development.

Application of a strategic approach in managing people in an organization has been touted as acritical component in improving organizational performance. Although the relationship between Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) and performance is well established in private sector research, empirical evidence from public sector organizations in developing countries remains limited. This dearth is even more evident since Kenya adopted a devolved system of government in 2010. This study examines the influence of SHRM practices on public sector performance using survey data from County Governments in Western Kenya. This study examines the influence of SHRM practices on public sector performance using survey data from county governments in Western Kenya. Data was analyzed using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis to establish the effects of strategic recruitment and selection, performance management, training and development, and talent retention on performance. Performance was measured using service delivery metrics of organizational effectiveness, accountability and employee motivation. The results show that SHRM practices have a significant positive influence on public sector performance, with performance management and training and development emerging as the strongest predictors. However, the findings also suggest that the effectiveness of SHRM practices is dependent on institutional capacity and leadership commitment. The study extends SHRM–performance research to a devolved public sector context in the Global South and offers practical insights for strengthening county-level performance through strategic HRM.

Construction of growth model and growth simulation of Yunnan Arabica coffee.

Yunnan is the primary coffee-producing region in China. With the changing consumption habits of younger consumers, the coffee industry has experienced rapid growth, and enhancing both quality and yield has become a major focus of research. However, crop growth models are predominantly applied to the simulation of annual grain crops. To date, there has been no reported research on the development of growth models specifically for Arabica coffee in Yunnan. This study is based on the coffee growth model initially assessed and calibrated using long-term experimental sites in Costa Rica and Nicaragua in Central America (Ovalle-Rivera O. et al. Agrofor. Syst. 94:2033-2051, 2020), and has been locally calibrated to construct a growth model for Arabica coffee in Yunnan. The main tasks are as follows: Focusing on the key coffee-growing regions in Yunnan, data on local climate, soil, phenology, management practices, and yield were collected. The study explored the calibration of model parameters using Bayesian optimization, gradient descent, and particle swarm optimization algorithms. By comparing two indicators-root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE)-it was determined that particle swarm optimization produced the best results under Yunnan's ecological and climatic conditions, and thus, this algorithm was used to construct the Yunnan Arabica coffee growth model. Furthermore, simulations were conducted to examine the effects of varying fertilization amounts, shading practices, shading intensities, altitudes, and weather conditions on coffee growth. The study discusses the impact of these factors on the growth and yield of Yunnan Arabica coffee, providing scientific evidence for optimizing cultivation management strategies. The results indicate that moderate fertilization and shading can significantly improve coffee yield, although both factors have a "saturation point." Within a specific range of total fertilizer application, the impact of single application rates on final yield is not significant. This suggests that when formulating a scientifically sound fertilization strategy, the total nitrogen fertilizer application should be optimized first. Among the major production areas, the climate conditions in the Pu'er region are the most ideal, while other regions require tailored management measures. In summary, this research successfully constructed the Yunnan Arabica coffee growth model and simulated its performance under various conditions, revealing potential response trends of coffee to environmental changes. It provides theoretical support for the cultivation management and sustainable development of the Arabica coffee industry in Yunnan.
