Analysis of the Effect of Management Commitment, Safety Compliance and Safety Awareness on Safety Culture

This study investigates the influence of Management Commitment, Safety Compliance, and Safety Awareness on Safety Culture at PT XYZ, a heavy equipment manufacturing company. The research aims to address the rising workplace accidents, as indicated by increasing LTIFR and TRIFR rates, by identifying factors critical to improving safety culture. Data were collected from 116 respondents using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The analysis confirmed that Management Commitment has the most significant effect on Safety Culture, with a path coefficient of 0.437 and a large effect size of 0.963, highlighting the importance of leadership and consistent safety policies. Safety Compliance, with a path coefficient of 0.375 and an effect size of 0.712, underscores the role of adherence to safety regulations in fostering accountability and reducing accidents. Safety Awareness, with a path coefficient of 0.333 and an effect size of 0.632, emphasizes the need for employee understanding of safety risks to encourage proactive behaviors. These findings underline the importance of integrating these variables into organizational strategies to enhance safety culture. The study concludes that fostering a robust safety culture requires collective efforts across all organizational levels, emphasizing management leadership, compliance enforcement, and safety awareness initiatives to ensure a safer and more productive workplace

Procurement, a vital organizational process, involves acquiring goods and services to support operational activities such as planning, purchasing, storage, and shipping. E-procurement, a web-based communication system, has revolutionized procurement operations by streamlining processes, enhancing transparency, and reducing costs. E-procurement encompasses e-sourcing, e-ordering, and e-payment activities, facilitating efficiency and fostering stronger supplier relationships. While it offers numerous benefits, including improved organizational performance, customer satisfaction, and environmental sustainability, challenges remain, particularly in developing countries, where technological infrastructure and management support are critical hurdles. This study investigates the impact of e-procurement on organizational performance, emphasizing key variables like managerial commitment, data quality, and stakeholder engagement. Using IBM SPSS as a quantitative methodology, the research reveals that successful adoption of e-procurement optimizes resource utilization and transforms supply chain operations, making them more competitive and sustainable. These findings provide valuable insights for organizations aiming to implement e-procurement and enhance operational efficiency.

Safety Culture and Its Underlying Dimensions: Emergency Services Personal Perspective

Poor workplace safety is causing approximately 2.78 million casualties daily, which leads to a considerable burden of workplace injuries/ diseases costing approximately 4% of the annual GDP of the world (ILO, 2020). To explore the perspective and underlying dimensions of the safety culture of Emergency Services Personnel (Rescue 1122), the present investigation was conducted from 10-5-2023 to 9-5-2024 in the city of Lahore, Punjab. A purposive sample of 12 Participants (9 men and 3 women, including 3 managers, 3 trainers, 3 middle managers, and 3 participants) who had been serving the department for at least 3 years and had a maximum experience of 15 years was obtained. Inductive and deductive approaches were used to discover safety culture and its underlying dimensions based on focus group findings. Semi-structured interviews were conducted for a duration of 45 to 70 minutes, followed by thematic analysis. Major identified themes of safety culture were: safety management, safety environment, safety insights, safety behavior & consequences, and safety participation, along with other sub-dimensions, two new factors (safety behavior & consequences and safety participation) will be a value addition. Management domain comprised of facets like management commitment, leadership, supervision, and organization support. Safety environment domain facets were safety training, equipment availability, safety rules & regulations, communication channels, work schedule, and safety crew. The facets of safety insights and behavior were safety knowledge, safety motivation, safety learning attitude, risk awareness, safety audit, accident reporting, and safety violations reporting mechanism.

Exploring Critical Measures for Developing Market Intelligence Culture in Construction Companies

In today's highly competitive environment, integrating market intelligence (MI) is paramount to enhancing organisational decision-making processes. Despite its significance, measures for improving MI culture remain underexplored in the construction marketing literature. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify critical measures for improving MI culture within construction companies. Employing a sequential exploratory mixed-method approach, twelve key measures were initially derived from exploratory interviews and subsequently validated through an extensive review of relevant literature. The 215 construction companies that assessed these measures classified them as either 'very critical' or 'critical.' Factor analysis identified 'top management commitment' and 'active internal marketing' as the principal measures. It is recommended that construction companies allocate sufficient financial, technological, and human resources to nurture and sustain a strong MI culture. Furthermore, companies should view employees as internal customers, recognising their crucial role in improving MI culture. By fostering a robust MI culture, construction companies can strengthen decision-making capabilities and secure a competitive advantage through more accurate forecasting of market trends, customer preferences, and optimised pricing strategies. This study is the first to explore this subject within the construction industry, laying a foundation for future research.

EFFECT OF CHURCH STRUCTURES ON FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF CHURCH OF UGANDA-FOUNDED PRIVATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS: EVIDENCE FROM GREATER ANKOLE DIOCESES, UGANDA

Purpose: This study investigates the effect of Church structures on the financial performance of Church of Uganda-founded private secondary schools in Greater Ankole Dioceses. The research addresses a critical gap in understanding how church policies and hierarchy, within the context of resource-based, incremental budgeting, and systems management frameworks, shape financial outcomes in Church of Uganda-founded private secondary schools. Design/Methodology/Approach:A convergent mixed-methods design was employed, integrating quantitative survey data from 365 respondentsfrom the school stakeholders that is the Bishops office staff, Church field staff, school management committees, School administrative staff and Government officials and qualitative interviews. Church structures were measured using validated scales, and financial performance was assessed through self-reported indicators. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA/CFA) validated the constructs, and structural equation modeling (SEM) tested the hypothesized relationships. Reliability and validity were established through Cronbachs alpha, composite reliability, and average variance extracted. Findings: The results revealedthat Church structures have a weaker, non-significant effect. Church hierarchy is negatively associated with financial performance. The findings highlight the importance of church policies in shaping financial performance, especially in the revenue-constrained, Church of Uganda-founded private secondary schools. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the body of literature by providing empirical evidence from a unique context that Church structures in relation to policy and hierarchy impact to Church of Uganda-founded private secondary schools in the province of the church of Uganda especially in the greater Ankole Dioceses have on financial performance, interpreted through the lenses of resource-based, incremental budgeting, and systems management theories. The findings offer actionable insights for policymakers, school administrators, and church authorities seeking to improve church policies and financial performance.

Implementasi Good Corporate Governance (GCG) Pada Badan Usaha Milik Daerah (BUMD) PT. Bank Nagari Provinsi Sumatera Barat

This study analyzes the implementation practices of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) principles at the Regional-Owned Enterprise (BUMD) PT Bank Nagari in West Sumatra and its implications for Regional Original Income (PAD) in 2023. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Primary data was obtained through in-depth interviews with key informants from PT Bank Nagari management and local government officials, while secondary data was collected from financial reports, policy documents, and official publications. Triangulation techniques were used to ensure data validity. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of GCG principles, including transparency, accountability, responsibility, independence, and fairness, has been running well at PT Bank Nagari. One of the main quantitative findings is a 25% increase in dividends in 2023 compared to the previous year, with a total contribution of IDR 113.87 billion to the PAD of West Sumatra Province. Transparency is realized through the publication of open and accurate financial reports, while accountability can be seen from the internal and external monitoring mechanisms that are carried out consistently. The implementation of GCG also encourages the company's operational efficiency and strengthens Bank Nagari's position as a major contributor to regional income. With the commitment of internal management and active supervision from the local government, GCG plays an important role in improving fiscal stability and regional economic development.

GREEN BANKING, MANAJEMEN RISIKO, DAN KEPEMILIKAN ASING: ANALISIS DETERMINAN NILAI PASAR PERBANKAN DI INDONESIA

Abstract - The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of Green Banking (GB) disclosure and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) disclosure on the financial performance of banking institutions in Indonesia, with foreign ownership serving as a moderating variable. As environmental concerns intensify, banks face growing pressure to integrate sustainable development principles into their operations and reporting through Green Banking Disclosures. Effective risk disclosure also requires a robust ERM framework to strengthen transparency and investor confidence. Foreign ownership often brings improved governance standards, technological capabilities, and managerial discipline. This study offers a novel perspective by examining the combined influence of sustainability disclosure, risk management practices, and ownership structure on firm performance, an area still underexplored in emerging markets. Hypotheses were tested using linear regression analysis with pooled data processed through SPSS. The results indicate that both Green Banking and ERM disclosures do not have a significant effect on firm performance as measured by Tobin’s Q. In contrast, foreign ownership demonstrates a significant positive impact. As a moderating variable, foreign ownership weakens the relationship between Green Banking Disclosure and firm performance, while the interaction between ERM disclosure and foreign ownership does not show a significant effect. These findings suggest that although disclosure practices are increasingly adopted, they may not yet be perceived by the market as strong value signals, particularly during the heightened uncertainty of the Covid-19 period. This underscores the need for more strategic, credible, and standardized disclosures to enhance market perceptions of sustainability and risk management commitments. Gaps hindering the objectives of fisheries co-management mechanisms in Sri Lanka

The fisheries industry in Sri Lanka plays a vital role in nutritional and food security, job creation, and foreign revenue earnings. Co-management is an important strategy for sustainable fisheries management, where fishers, government bodies, and other stakeholders work together. This study aimed to identify gaps affecting the achievement of 17 FAO good practice indicators related to social and economic goals and objectives of co-management in Sri Lanka's coastal fisheries sector. A two-stage cluster sampling method was used to select participants: two Fisheries Management Areas were randomly selected from 18 existing areas, followed by three Fisheries Management Committees from each of the chosen Fisheries Management Areas. Data collection involved a structured questionnaire administered to 115 fishers, representing a 40 percent sample of the total membership across six selected Fisheries Management Committees. A desk study of existing laws and regulations, two focus group discussions, and 30 key-informant interviews with officers from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, scientists, leading fishermen, and academics were conducted. The study revealed significant gaps affecting the successful implementation of co-management. Key findings include the absence of comprehensive fisheries management and development plans, low participation of women, youth, and other marginalized groups, limited involvement of state and non-state agencies beyond the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and weak linkages between co-management programs and economic benefits for fishers. To address these issues, the study recommends prioritizing the development of comprehensive co-management plans, actively involving all stakeholders, including women, youth, and marginalized groups, and creating co-management platforms that accommodate the diverse interests of all stakeholders.

Board Media Background on Annual Report Readability: Evidence from Indonesia

This study aims to examine the impact of board members with media backgrounds (MBD) on the readability of annual reports. It further tests the effect of MBD in the sub-samples of companies with and without Risk Management Committees (RMC) and those audited by BIG 4 and non-BIG 4 firms. This study utilized a sample of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression with clustering by firm was performed in STATA 17.0 to predict the relationship between MBD and annual report readability. Robustness checks were conducted using Coarsened Exact Matching (CEM) analysis. The results indicate that the presence of board members with media backgrounds significantly improves the readability of annual reports. In companies without Risk Management Committees, the positive impact of MBD on readability was significant. However, in companies with an RMC, this effect was less pronounced. Furthermore, the positive relationship between MBD and readability was more significant in companies audited by BIG 4 firms compared to those audited by non-BIG 4 firms. This study offers new insights into the role of board members with media backgrounds in enhancing corporate communication. It examines how MBD affects the readability of annual reports in different sub-samples, including companies with and without Risk Management Committees (RMC), and those audited by BIG 4 firms versus non-BIG 4 firms. The findings highlight the strategic value of MBD in improving the readability of annual reports.

Addressing Food Waste in Restaurant Training: Practices and Challenges

Food waste significantly impacts the restaurant industry’s financial viability and environmental sustainability. This study explores training practices used to minimize food waste and identifies obstacles encountered in implementing these practices. Semi-structured interviews with 10 chefs from diverse restaurants in a mid-South U.S. state were conducted. Two themes emerged from the qualitative analysis. The results revealed that the predominant training methods were verbal instruction, mentoring, and hands-on coaching, emphasizing real-time feedback and individualized guidance. Training for front-of-house staff primarily included reducing unnecessary table items, whereas back-of-house employees focused on portion control and repurposing ingredients. Mentoring emerged as critical, especially for new employees with limited culinary experience, ensuring that they develop critical thinking skills and resourcefulness in minimizing waste. Chefs identified significant barriers, including staff cooperation, knowledge gaps, employee turnover, and resource limitations. Overcoming these challenges necessitates stronger managerial commitment, standardized guidelines, and incentive-based reinforcement. This study concludes that cultivating an organizational culture that embeds sustainability into training practices is essential. Practical strategies such as mentoring and continuous reinforcement can mitigate food waste, enhance operational efficiency, and promote a sustainable food system. Future research should quantify training impacts on waste reduction and examine consumer-side factors influencing restaurant food waste.

Role of information sharing and management commitment on procurement performance in public organisations of developing economies – PLS-SEM approach

Purpose Information sharing within the procurement process is considered crucial since most procurement activities and task performance are largely contingent on achieving organizational goals. With the advent of technology and the inadequacy of it, information sharing has become a struggle in most developing nations. Hence, this study aims to investigate the impact of information sharing and management commitment on procurement performance within public procurement organizations. Design/methodology/approach Predicated on a comprehensive review of pertinent and extant literature, a pilot survey, questionnaire was administered to 150 procurement officers in various organizations directly involved in Ghana’s procurement supply chain. Using the resource-based theory, an examination of the roles of information sharing and management commitment on procurement performance in procurement companies; three (3) constructs were tested using a partial least square structural equation modeling approach. Findings The results revealed that information sharing and management commitment are key to improving procurement performance. This result suggests that management and policymakers should ensure that information shared in line with procurement dealings is well protected since major decisions are relied on to improve procurement performance. Practical implications The insight given in understanding the extent and nature of the influence of information sharing and management commitment on procurement performance in public organizations should inform actions and efforts to improve the procurement supply chain, particularly in the Ghanaian landscape. Originality/value The findings of the study indicate that the procurement performance of a firm is shaped by the extent of information sharing within the firm’s procurement chain. Hence, firms need to focus on timely, accurate and quality information sharing pertaining to the procurement processes, decisions and management to engender the required performance of procurement tasks and functions.

Quality of financial reporting and the practice of enterprise risk management: Evidence from listed United States industrial companies

This study aims to empirically investigate the impact of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) practices on the quality of financial reporting (QFR) among U.S. industrial firms. It focuses on key ERM practice indicators such as board-level risk oversight, cash flow volatility, and value-at-risk (VaR). A static panel data approach was employed using data from 18 industrial firms registered on the New York Stock Exchange, covering the period from 2014 to 2022. The finding revealed that ERM significantly enhances the quality of financial reporting. Particularly, the board of risk management committees and VaR have a positive and significant influence on the quality of financial reporting. However, volatility in cash flows has an unfavorable and significant influence, thereby reducing the reliability of financial information disclosed by U.S industrial companies. The study’s empirical evidence can deepen prospective research by stimulating in-depth examination into the implementation of ERM, which enriches transparency and alleviates the risk related to financial reporting. It is recommended that regulatory bodies of the United States should rigorously follow the protocols of a corporate setting, COSO context, and all other legislation regarding risk management, thus preventing the dissemination of misleading accounting information and enhancing the reliability and credibility of the financial statements.

Ethical Governance and Human Resources Management in the Bank of Sierra Leone

This quantitative study examined ethical governance and human resources (HR) management practices at the Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL), focusing on balancing employee rights with organizational objectives. Guided by Stakeholder Theory, the research emphasized the importance of considering all stakeholders, particularly employees, in the bank's governance framework. Employing a descriptive cross-sectional survey design, the study collected primary data through structured questionnaires administered to a randomly selected sample of 100 employees from a population of approximately 1,000, achieving an 85% response rate. This approach provided a snapshot of employees' perceptions and experiences related to ethical governance at a single point in time. Findings indicated that BSL had established formal structures to promote ethical governance, such as oversight committees and codes of conduct. However, instances of workplace injustice, including unlawful dismissals and discrimination, were identified, suggesting gaps between policy and practice. The study also revealed that external pressures, such as societal expectations and regulatory requirements, influenced BSL's HR practices. Despite these pressures, internal dynamics, including management's commitment to ethical principles, played a crucial role in shaping the bank's governance culture. In conclusion, while BSL had frameworks in place for ethical governance, inconsistencies in implementation affected employee trust and organizational effectiveness. The study recommended strengthening internal mechanisms to ensure that ethical policies are consistently applied, thereby enhancing employee satisfaction and aligning with the bank's strategic goals.

The Role of Motivation and Teachers’ Performance in Private Secondary Schools in Masheruka Town Council Sheema North, Sheema District

The study was about motivational practices and teachers’ performance in private secondary schools in Isingiro District, Uganda. The study was aimed at; assessing the influence of adequate fringe benefits on teachers’ performance in private secondary schools, establishing the influence of administrative support on teachers’ performance in private secondary schools and examining the influence of physical work environment on teachers’ performance in private secondary schools. A cross-sectional and a descriptive survey design were adopted. The target population included school administrators like, Board of governors, PTA heads, head teachers, teachers and students from selected private secondary schools in Isingiro district. Six private secondary schools were selected a sample size of 214 was obtained using simple random and purposive sampling techniques. Questionnaire and interview guide were used as data collection instruments. Data analysis was in form of descriptive statistics in addition to use of Pearson correlation coefficient to determine the relationship between motivational practices and teachers’ performance. From the study findings, it was learnt that there was no statistically significant relationship between fringe benefits and teachers’ performance in private secondary schools in Isingiro district while descriptive results also indicated poor level of fringe benefits. The study further established a statistically significant relationship between administrative support and teachers’ performance in private secondary schools. It was revealed that physical work environment statistically had an influence on teachers’ performance in private secondary schools in Isingiro district. In most private secondary schools, fringe benefits were not given a priority as one way of motivating teachers in their work. Administrative support was being provided to teachers in their respective secondary schools as it is recognized as key in promoting success. It is evident that this factor is being respected and promoted in most of the private secondary schools. There is need to sensitize teachers about the relevance of attending meetings and other school functions as part of providing solutions to their teaching challenges in their respective schools. Analysis of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Culture Related to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Behavior at Syiah Kuala University Teaching Hospital, Banda Aceh

Workplace accidents in hospitals became a serious concern given their impact on workers and the quality of services. National and regional Aceh data indicated that occupational safety and health (OSH) incidents still occur, often caused by suboptimal worker behavior towards safety. Although an OSH culture is believed to be crucial in preventing accidents and improving service quality, its implementation has not been fully effective in various healthcare facilities. This study analyzed OSH behavior and the factors that contributed to the formation of an OSH culture at the Teaching Hospital of Syiah Kuala University Banda Aceh, where initial observations indicated challenges related to the socialization and compliance withOHSprocedures. A quantitative approach was employed using correlational and ex post facto methods on 100 medical and non-medical personnel. This research found that OSH behavior was significant in shaping the OSH culture, positively influenced by management commitment, regulations/SOPs, knowledge, and OSH communication, but not significantly by OSH training. Factors such as management commitment also influence regulations/SOPs and OSH communication, while training is correlated with OSH knowledge. Strengthening the OSH culture required a focus on improving worker behavior through more intensive OSH training, clear regulations, increased knowledge, and effective communication. Thus, cultivating an OSH culture has to become a primary priority and be integrated into every aspect of hospital operation.

Tracking a Medicine's Regulatory Risk Management Commitments Provides Better Transparency and Oversight.

Pharmaceutical companies are required to provide Risk Management Plans (RMPs) to support the marketing authorisation of medicines. These RMPs contain information on efficacy and safety, outline risks or gaps in information, and detail commitments for post-authorisation pharmacovigilance (PV) studies. These plans aim to enhance understanding of a drug's benefit-risk profile and information on risk mitigation and labelling strategies to ensure end-users are aware of the risks that are associated with the product. Per defined health authorities trigger, RMPs are updated with new data such as post-authorisation data and expanded product labels (new indications), leading to multiple versions. When specific risks require additional mitigation beyond product labelling, additional risk minimisation materials (aRMMs) may be applied to educate healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients. In some cases, more stringent controls on drug use may be necessary. In all cases, these risk management commitments must be implemented in applicable countries where the medicine is marketed following local regulatory requirements. Implementing aRMMs necessitates the distribution of core or EU RMPs and aRMMs to local affiliates for localisation, approval by local health authorities, dissemination, and subsequent collection of effectiveness metrics. Managing multiple versions of core and local RMPs, aRMMs, and associated activities becomes a vital data management issue, requiring efficient tracking of the status of each document and locally agreed activities. This article explores developing and deploying a database-driven RMP and aRMM tracking system. It covers the determination of system requirements, the delivery of the system, and the assessment of its impact on the organisation.

Uptake of occupational safety and health management systems in manufacturing industry of Zimbabwe: case of Mutare manufacturing factories

BackgroundPromotion of OSH management systems (OSHMSs) has gained commendable traction worldwide with the developed world taking the lead, however non to suboptimal implementation of OSHMSs is still evident in the least developed and developing countries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the uptake of OSHMSs in the manufacturing industry of the City of Mutare in Zimbabwe.MethodsA descriptive cross-sectional study that exploited the pragmatism philosophical approach was utilized. Data collection was done through administration of 312, 30 and 11 questionnaires to worker, top manager and OSH practitioner respondents respectively complimented by interviews and secondary data from respective manufacturing factories. Data was analyzed, presented using pie charts, bar graphs and frequency tables to illustrate trends and then discussed qualitatively in continuous prose.ResultsResults revealed subdued implementation of OSHMSs in manufacturing industry of Mutare as evidenced by a low uptake rate of 26.7%. Results projected lack of leadership and management commitment and lack of human, material, and financial resources for systems sustenance as main reasons for non-implementation of OSHMSs.ConclusionLow uptake rate of OSHMSs revealed is a serious bottleneck to the endeavor to attain OSH sustainability for securing the future of work.
