The paper is concerned with the studies of electrophysical parameters of lithium orthosilicate as a blanket material. AC and DC resistance values, dielectric constant and breakdown voltages over a range of temperatures 300–900 K are given. Breakdown process and electrolysis of the material are discussed. Electrolytic degradation mechanism of lithium silicate ceramics with respect to blanket operation conditions is considered. It has been proven that electrochemical decomposition of Li 4SiO 4, proceeds easily under the operation condition of a blanket (temperature about 800 K, strong influence of the radiation).
