"If the age aspires to the abyss, it is better to get behind it" – the biblical text in the novel by B.A. Sadovsky "The Sixth Hour"

The article’s materials complement the topic “Christianity and Russian literature” based on the example of B.A.Sadovsky’s novel “The Sixth Hour”. B.A.Sadovskaya (1881-1952) is known as the author of historical novels devoted to the study of the causes of the fall of the monarchical system in Russia in the twentieth century. He examines the history of Russia from the time of Peter I to Nicholas II from the point of view of Orthodox historiosophy. The author of the article describes the role and significance of the biblical text in creating an apocalyptic artistic picture of the world in B.A.Sadovsky’s novel “The Sixth Hour”. The biblical text was introduced by the writer into the titles (the title complex), represented by quotations from the New Testament, and is present at the level of associative symbolism in the images (names) of the characters. The novelty of the research is determined not only by the insufficient study of the writer’s literary heritage and the lack of full-fledged works on his novel work, but also by the attempt to present the novel “The Sixth Hour” by B.A.Sadovsky as a warning novel that Russia must return to monarchy and Orthodoxy as the only sources of its civilizational existence. The author concludes that the biblical text in B.A.Sadovsky’s novel “The Sixth Hour” defines its stylistic unity and forms an idea of the author’s historiosophical concept, in which pre-revolutionary and pre-war Russia is depicted as a place of battle between good and evil, emphasizing the inevitability of its sacrificial path as a condition for its future revival.

Sandarśana: A Survey on Sanskrit Computational Linguistics and Digital Infrastructure for Sanskrit

Computational Linguistics is an interdisciplinary field of computer science and linguistics that focuses on designing computational models and algorithms for processing, analyzing, and generating human language. Over recent years, this field has made substantial progress. While its primary emphasis tends to center around widely spoken languages, there is equal importance in investigating languages that are not commonly spoken but have contributed immensely to the literature, culture, and philosophy of the society. Thus, this survey paper comprehensively delves into the exploration of computational tasks undertaken for Sanskrit, an ancient language of the Indian sub-continent steeped in a wealth of literary heritage. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the progress made thus far in the computational analysis of Sanskrit, while also reviewing the current digital infrastructure that supports these efforts. Additionally, our study also identifies potential avenues for future research, serving as a reference for anyone interested in advancing their exploration in this field.

The Philological Library as a Modern Architectural Icon for Knowledge and Research

This article explores the evolving role of philological libraries as modern architectural icons that not only preserve linguistic and literary heritage but also actively shape the dynamics of knowledge production and academic research. Taking the Philological Library at Freie Universität Berlin as a focal point, the study investigates the intersection of architectural design, technological integration, and user-centered functionality in library spaces. It highlights how architectural aesthetics, spatial planning, and digital innovations influence the ways in which knowledge is accessed, shared, and experienced. Through comparative case studies from Europe, America, and Asia, the paper demonstrates how libraries transcend their archival function to become cultural landmarks and intellectual sanctuaries. Ultimately, the research emphasizes that the form and function of academic libraries are inextricably linked, making architecture a vital element in supporting the intellectual mission of universities in the 21st century.

LINGUISTIC APPLICATIONS OF FOLK – COLLOQUIAL AND DIALECTIC WORDS IN GEGHAM SARYAN POETRY

In modern Armenian literature, Gegham Saryan created an original poetic world and left a rich literary heritage. In this regard the study of his work is of great importance. It is well known that a thorough study of the writer's vocabulary is important for understanding the language of the author's works. Therefore, in this article, we consider it necessary to subject the vocabulary of Gegham Saryan's poetry to a linguo-stylistic analysis, in this case, the folk-colloquial and dialect words, because their comprehensive examination gives the opportunity to get a complete picture of the author's language and writing skills. The language of G. Saryan's work is distinguished by its originality and the successful use of the folk-colloquial, dialectal layers of the Armenian vocabulary and their stylistic manifestations. The author's choice of words, especially the selection of individual phrases, is mainly determined by the content of the work. The author's choice of words, especially the selection of individual word groups, is mainly determined by the content of the work. The study of the vocabulary of the writer's works also implies the analysis of the expressive role and stylistic coloring of different word groups, and stylistic coloring, as we know, can have the most diverse groups of the vocabulary of the language. The linguistic structure of G. Saryan's works is not monochromatic and homogeneous. Taking into consideration the stylistic purpose of the use of each lexical unit in the author's poetry speech, we can say that Gegham Saryan's poetry features folk – colloquial and dialect word groups. Due to its accessibility and comprehensibility, the folk-colloquial vocabulary of the In the speech art of Saryan's poetry, the folk-colloquial vocabulary has its unique place due to its accesibility and comprehensibility and has obvious predominance over the dialect words that have spartial limitations. In Saryan's works, folk -colloquial and dialect words are used both in the speech of the author and the characters. These usages are stylistically correct and justified: they contribute to the popularization of the writer's speech, create a more intimate and lively environment. The author uses both colloquial and dialectal words that are known to the people and do not have their literary equivalent, which not only emphasize the social profile of the characters, but also sometimes help rhyme the poetry.

The Embodiment of Oleh Lysheha’s Mythopoeiain his Poetic Cycles “Winter in Tysmenytsia” and “To Snow and Fire”

In his creative works, Oleh Lysheha has managed to create a self-contained mythopoeia, based on his unique perception of the world. A specific archaic worldview regained its relevance in his poetry and consistently appears in its lyrical subject’s way of thinking. The texts from different poetic cycles contribute to one concept-plot continuity unified by consistent mythologemes and by the special ways the time and space are organized in Oleh Lysheha’s poetic world. In this article, the author’s poetic cycles “Winter in Tysmenytsia” and “To snow and fire” are viewed both as separate conceptually whole pieces and as elements of the whole Oleh Lysheha’s mythopoeia. Such an approach opens a new perspective on the way the cycles are built internally and on how certain parts of them interact with the external panorama of the poet’s literary heritage. Both poetic cycles show clear traces of ritualistic intent aimed at reflecting upon a set period of time and at drawing inner drastic change that occurs in the lyrical subject as well as at attempting to accept it. The natural elements, specifically water and fire, act as the catalysts of such change and the process of writing becomes the key myth interacting with the readers on a metatextual level. Both poetic cycles are equally concluded with the descriptions of specific actions that can be interpreted as the destruction and rearrangement of the lyrical subject’s worldview. In “To snow and fire”, there are also certain texts which can be compared to shamanic journeys and that is also a subject of debate in the article.

"Proud Man" vs. "Peaceful Natives": Pushkin’s The Gypsies as Anticipation of the XIX Century

In his poem The Gypsies (1824), Alexander Pushkin used various lexical means to polarize the system of characters: the proud Aleko is opposed to the peaceful Gypsies. The author clarifies the origin of the savage and peaceful types in Russian literature using the method of diachronic typological comparison. The proud man was a romantic hero in the Byronic context of the 1820s. In the traditional Russian Christian context, however, pride was a sin. As a result, Pushkin counterweighed the proud man by the meek personages, i.e., the Gypsies. This character system turned out to be paradigmatic for the Russian classics of the XIX century: its structure corresponded to the essential aspects explored in the nineteenth-century literature. Naturally, it was picked up by the most important literary texts of that epoch, which was widely recognized by the literary criticism of the 1850s, e.g., by Apollon Grigoriev and Pavel Annenkov, who made the greatest contribution to the preservation of Pushkin’s literary heritage. Pushkin’s model manifested itself in the classical texts by Ivan Turgenev, Ivan Goncharov, Alexander Ostrovsky, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Leo Tolstoy. The model proved so effective it entered the Russian literature of the XX century.

Automated Dataset-Creation and Evaluation Pipeline for NER in Russian Literary Heritage

Developing robust and reliable models for Named Entity Recognition (NER) in the Russian language presents significant challenges due to the linguistic complexity of Russian and the limited availability of suitable training datasets. This study introduces a semi-automated methodology for building a customized Russian dataset for NER specifically designed for literary purposes. The paper provides a detailed description of the methodology employed for collecting and proofreading the dataset, outlining the pipeline used for processing and annotating its contents. A comprehensive analysis highlights the dataset’s richness and diversity. Central to the proposed approach is the use of a voting system to facilitate the efficient elicitation of entities, enabling significant time and cost savings compared to traditional methods of constructing NER datasets. The voting system is described theoretically and mathematically to highlight its impact on enhancing the annotation process. The results of testing the voting system with various thresholds show its impact in increasing the overall precision by 28% compared to using only the state-of-the-art model for auto-annotating. The dataset is meticulously annotated and thoroughly proofread, ensuring its value as a high-quality resource for training and evaluating NER models. Empirical evaluations using multiple NER models underscore the dataset’s importance and its potential to enhance the robustness and reliability of NER models in the Russian language.

Poetry is an expressive form that arises from the arrangement of words. Naturally, poetic language is beautiful and captivating. Every poet strives to write poems that will attract readers, but it is also evident that a poem can only have readers if its language is simple, fluid, and sweet, allowing it to resonate with the hearts and minds of its audience. The Founders of Albanian Comedy: Language, Irony, and the Horizon of Expectation

This study examines the contributions of authors who laid the foundation for Albanian comedy, such as Kristo Floqi, Mihal Grameno, Foqion Postoli, and Ilo Mitkë Qafëzezi, emphasizing their significant role in early 20th-century Albanian literature. It also investigates their linguistic contributions, focusing on the language structures, stylistic choices, and rhetorical strategies employed in their works, and how these elements reflect the socio-political and cultural contexts of their time. By applying literary and linguistic theoretical criteria, the study seeks to establish the place of these authors in the history of Albanian literature and to analyze the reception of their works over time, highlighting their impact on the currents of national literary development. In the field of Albanological studies, these foundational comedic works have been largely overlooked. By addressing this gap, the paper not only contributes to the understanding of Albania’s literary heritage but also sheds light on the linguistic dimensions of these authors’ works, enriching the study of Albanian literature as a multifaceted cultural phenomenon. These writers must be analyzed within the broader historical, artistic, and linguistic frameworks that shaped their roles in the complex process of literary development. Furthermore, this research represents an important step in preserving and re-evaluating our cultural and literary legacy, providing valuable insights into the interplay between language, literature, and cultural history.
