Brief signature strengths use scale: a concise tool for assessing strengths use across life contexts

ABSTRACT In this article, we present the Brief Signature Strengths Use Scale (BSSUS). The BSSUS is a 5-item instrument designed to assess signature strengths use in five contexts comprising daily life, work, management of stress and difficulties in life, personal relationships, and achieving well-being. The proposed instrument was designed to balance brevity and psychometric soundness. Data were collected from a multinational sample of 32,550 adults. The BSSUS showed good fit, satisfactory reliability, and convergent validity in relation to relevant psychological measures (including well-being, harmony in life, resilience, and perceived stress), as well as a good fit to the data that was invariant over gender, age, and country. The instrument can be of use in psychological research and among professionals helping others in applying character strengths (psychologists, coaches, managers, educators).

Overcoming Difficult Science Topics through Alternative Media in Elementary Education

Twenty-first century education demands deep conceptual understanding and applied abilities to address the challenges of modern learning. This study aims to identify the main difficulties faced by elementary school students in science subjects and propose relevant solution strategies to enhance learning effectiveness. Employing a mixed-method approach, the research integrates quantitative and qualitative analyses gathered from two IPAS teachers and thirty sixth-grade students through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. Results reveal that two topics “Let’s Get to Know Our Earth” (63.33%) and “Harmony in Life” (36.66%) are the most challenging, significantly affecting student engagement and comprehension during lessons. Various solution strategies, including the use of Canva media, spinning earth surface visualizations, LKPD worksheets, 3D sociodrama, and interactive animation videos, have demonstrably improved students’ conceptual understanding and active participation. These findings highlight the importance of innovative media and contextual strategies in supporting more effective and meaningful science learning at the elementary level.

Global Significance of the Bhagavad Gita

Abstract The Bhagavad Gita is written between the 5th and 2nd centuries BCE. It’s set in the ancient Indian epic, the Mahabharata, and takes place on the battleground of Kurukshetra, in present- day Haryana, India. It’s a sacred Hindu Book that explores the nature of reality, duty, morality, and the path to enlightenment. The Gita’s training are presented through a dialogue between Prince Arjuna and Lord Krishna, addressing Arjuna’s inner conflict and confusion about his duty as a soldier. Through their discussion, this study examines how the Gita conveys dateless wisdom on Dharma(duty) Fulfilling one’s indebtedness and duties. Yoga( spiritual practice) Cultivating tonemindfulness, tone-control, and devotion. Tone-consummation Understanding one’s true nature and purpose. The Bhagavad Gita’s training inspires global leaders with precious perceptivity on leadership, stress operation, ethics, and growth, guiding them to navigate challenges and achieve success. The roles of meaning in life and Zhong-Yong thinking in the association between social isolation and depression in Chinese older adults: A moderated mediation model

ABSTRACT The study examines the potential mechanisms underlying the association between social isolation and depression among Chinese older adults, focusing on meaning in life as a mediating factor and Zhong-Yong thinking style as a moderating factor. Zhong Yong thinking, rooted in traditional Chinese culture, emphasizes holistic balance and harmony in life. A total of 561 Chinese older adults (M = 69.96 ± 6.62; 286 male; 275 female) were recruited using purposive sampling from urban and rural areas of Hubei Province, China. Participants completed measures adapted for the Social Isolation Subscale, the Chinese version of the Meaning in Life questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Geriatric Depression Scale, and the Zhong-Yong Thinking Style Scale. Meaning in life was found to mediate the association between social isolation and depression, and Zhong-Yong thinking moderated the mediating role of meaning in life, with higher levels of Zhong-Yong thinking associated with a weaker negative relationship between social isolation and meaning in life. These findings align with previous research highlighting the strong association between social isolation and depression in older adults. Zhong-Yong thinking may support older adults in maintaining meaning in life, potentially mitigating the influence of social isolation on depressive symptoms. The study underscores the value of culturally relevant strategies for addressing depression and suggests directions for prevention and intervention programs tailored to the needs of older adults. Incorporating meaning in life and Zhong-Yong thinking into mental health interventions could provide culturally sensitive approaches to addressing social isolation and depression in Chinese older adults. Emphasizing traditional cultural values may promote resilience and well-being in this population.

Pluralism and Interreligious Dialogue: An Islamic Perspective on Socio-Religious Relations

Religious diversity is an unavoidable social reality. However, this diversity often leads to tension and conflict between religious communities. The concept of pluralism comes as a solution to create a harmonious life by emphasizing mutual respect and understanding of differences. This research aims to examine the Islamic perspective in building harmonious socio-religious relations in the midst of pluralism by using the literature study method, this research analyzes the concept of pluralism and interfaith dialogue in the Islamic perspective through a qualitative approach. The data used comes from various academic literatures, including books, scientific journals, and relevant official documents. The results show that the concept of Tri Kerukunan (internal religious harmony, inter-religious harmony, and harmony between religious communities and the government) is the main asset in building harmonious religious pluralism in Indonesia. In addition, social dynamics in religious pluralism in contemporary society face various challenges, such as differences in theological views and the spread of information that can worsen inter-religious relations. Therefore, the active involvement of various parties, including religious leaders and the government, is needed to manage more inclusive social interactions and build a civilized society.

Autonomous Weapons Systems for Policing – A Jewish Ethical Perspective

ABSTRACT Autonomous Weapons Systems (AWS) are being developed around the world to improve national security both externally and internally. But allowing machines – incapable of recognizing the inherent worth of a human being – to take the life of human beings is to treat humans as objects and thus violate their dignity. Drawing from Jewish legal sources, this paper contends that, while human dignity is an important value, the values of societal harmony and preservation of life take precedence. Consequently, agencies tasked with safeguarding national security, whether military or police, need not be restrained by concerns over potential indignities AWS may impose.

A Shorter Version of the Happiness-Increasing Strategies Scale in the Indian Context

This study aims to examine the psychometric properties of the English and Hindi versions of the Happiness Increasing Strategies Scale in the Indian context. Data were collected online from 581 participants. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to test the original 8-factor model, following which exploratory factor analysis was conducted to determine a more suitable factor solution. The study also examined gender differences in the choice of strategies. The results did not confirm the original 8-factor model. However, an 8-factor solution for both the original and Hindi-translated version constituting 36 items demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties, good internal consistency, and significant correlations with the validating scales measuring mental and general well-being, harmony in life, and peace of mind. The 36-item Happiness Increasing Strategies Scale constituting 8 factors demonstrated a more appropriate factor solution in the Indian context. Females reported a significantly higher mean on Social Interaction, Instrumental Goal Pursuit, and Religion & Mental Control.

PENANAMAN NILAI-NILAI HAK ASASI MANUSIA DALAM TRADISI PONDOK PESANTREN: STUDI KASUS SANTRI PONDOK PESANTREN NURUL JADID

The Qur'an as a guide and guidance for the life of Muslims, has regulated all life values that are the basic rights of every person. Instilling human rights values is one form of adaptation to the demands of the times, as well as an effort to realize social harmony in community life. The tradition of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, as one of the oldest Islamic educational institutions, has a strategic role in shaping individual character through teaching religion, local culture, and universal morals. This article discusses how Islamic boarding schools internalize human rights values in educational practices and daily life, with an emphasis on the principles of justice, respect for differences, and balance between rights and obligations. Through a historical and normative approach, this study found that human rights values are often in line with Islamic teachings taught in Islamic boarding schools, although their application requires the right context and understanding. This integration is carried out through a yellow book-based learning method, a tradition of deliberation, and strengthening morals, which are the characteristics of Islamic boarding schools. This study confirms that the tradition of Islamic boarding schools has great potential in advancing human rights contextually, especially in a pluralistic society like Indonesia.

The Pillars of Societal Bioharmonism a Conceptualist Contribution to the Evolution of the Contemporary Society

This paper explores the concept of “bioharmonism” as a model for addressing sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by integrating the principles of biological balance and life harmony at various levels of nature and society. The purpose of this paper is to propose an integrative paradigm that rationally organizes the component concepts of different approaches and nuances developed over time in an attempt to find a path forward regarding contemporary societal changes. Thus, along the lines of transdisciplinary and holistic approaches, a connection is made between natural sciences, specifically life sciences, and social sciences, to understand in this way the evolution of human society. Specifically, the objective of this conceptual viewpoint is related to sustainability, resilience, and planetary health, indicating the need to analyze planetary bioharmony and transfer the model to the structure and functionality of human society. This is achieved by describing the pillars of this complex endeavor in a unified and coherent approach to highlight the bioharmonization process. This paper analyzes the definition and role of societal bioharmonism, then the methodological argumentation based on specific notions, principles, and laws, and finally, describes the application lines of the pillars of bioharmonism, using as a case study the provision of food for the human population. Solutions are highlighted that can conceptually contribute to the evolution of contemporary society, considering the convergence of anthroposystems with ecosystems, based on the interconnection of the current Biological Revolution with the performances offered by the Information Era. These solutions aim at societal bioharmonization, supported complementarily by its specific conceptual pillars, which, through integration and emergence, lead to a dynamic systemic balance. This, in turn, lays the foundation for reintegrating the environment and biodiversity into the economic equation, the citizen into the social equation, and science into the political equation.

The Persistent Influence of “Zhong Yong” Philosophy on Chinese Thinking Patterns: An Analysis Based on Chinese Chengyu and Proverbs

This study examines the persistent influence of “Zhong Yong” philosophy, a core Confucian concept also known as “The Doctrine of the Mean”, on Chinese thinking patterns through an analysis of Chinese Chengyu (idiomatic expressions) and proverbs. The research investigates how this ancient philosophical thought continues to shape contemporary Chinese cognitive frameworks and behaviors.A content analysis of 88 Chengyu and proverbs selected from authoritative dictionaries and widely used even today reveals three main manifestations of the “Zhong Yong” philosophy: (1) emphasis on non-forcing and allowing natural resolution; (2) recognition of moderation and harmony in life; and (3) application of dialectical thinking in problem-solving. The findings suggest that the Confucian cognitive framework and “Zhong Yong”philosophy has had a long-lasting impact on the Chinese mindset, influencing decision-making, interpersonal relationships, and ways of dealing with life’s challenges. The study underscores the role of linguistic elements in transmitting cultural philosophies, highlighting “Zhong Yong” thought’s relevance in contemporary Chinese society and its insights for modern complexities. The pervasiveness of “Zhong Yong” philosophy in Chinese expressions emphasizes its fundamental role in shaping Chinese cultural identity and worldview.This philosophical wisdom remains instructive and inspirational in modern Chinese society, and this study contributes to an understanding of how traditional philosophical concepts persist through language and continue to influence social norms and individual cognitive patterns.

Образ весны в творчестве К. Д. Бальмонта

The article examines the image of spring as presented in the works of K. D. Balmont. The purpose of the research is to identify the features of the poetic embodiment and symbolic content of the image of spring in the author's works. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the schematic representation of the image of spring and its transformation in the works of K. D. Balmont, and the understanding of the image as a symbol of rebirth, harmony, and humility in cyclical life. The paper analyzes the poems "Spring," "Festival of Spring," "Infatuation," "Gray Dandelion," "Wisdom of Spring," and "Russia." The dynamics of the image of spring are traced from poem to poem, and it is noted that it is not the chronological variability of the image, but its logical maturation and complication in poems of different years. The result is an understanding of spring as a companion of Russia: the symbolism of the image resonates with ideas of happiness, infatuation, cyclical life, unity with nature and the native land. Emphasis is placed on the possibility of applying the obtained material in philological disciplines and in the module "Fundamentals of Russian Statehood." As a result of the research, companion images are established that contribute to the disclosure of the image of spring – birches, larks, April, dandelion, forest, Russia. In each poem, processualism is revealed as a feature of the description, removing the static nature of the picture: calling, transformation, flowering and fading, unity. Spring in the works of K. D. Balmont personifies the ideas of harmony, humility, and expectation of a bright future.

Being healthy and achieving life harmony: the role of hybrid work and the mediating effect of work–family[with pets] conflict

PurposeThe recent workplace dynamics era allowed many organizations to adopt the hybrid working model. However, despite the growing relevance of telework for diverse outcomes, few studies have explored hybrid work. Therefore, this research was based on the role theory and the job demands-resources model to develop a conceptual model arguing that hybrid work may potentially influence employees’ life harmony and mental health through decreases in work–family conflict. Moreover, answering the call for more studies on the role of families with pets regarding work-life boundaries, it is also proposed that hybrid work may potentially influence employees’ harmony and mental health through decreases in work–[pet]family conflict.Design/methodology/approachTo achieve this objective, two studies were conducted. The first was a two-wave study carried out in 2023, involving 376 hybrid workers who completed two online surveys. The second study, also two-wave, was conducted in 2024 and included 479 working adults who participated in the research through online data collection.FindingsThe findings of the first study showed that individuals working in a hybrid model tended to experience less work–family conflict, consequently increasing their harmony and mental health. The second study also evidenced that those working in a hybrid modality had higher levels of harmony in life and mental health due to decreases in their work–[pet]family conflict.Originality/valueThe results highlight the importance of this working modality for employees’ mental health and well-being. Plus, it also opens future venues for research regarding work–[pet]family conflict, as it appears to be a relevant construct for modern families and younger generations of working adults.

Perbedaan dan Kontribusi Mazhab Fikih dalam Perkembangan Hukum Islam

The diversity of schools of jurisprudence in Islam, such as Hanafi, Maliki, Syafii, Hanbali, and Shia, reflects various legal approaches that develop according to their respective social, cultural and historical contexts. The four Sunni schools of thought have different methodologies, but are still based on the Koran and Hadith. The Hanafi school of thought is known to be flexible in its legal interpretation, while the Maliki school prioritizes the practices of the people of Medina. Syafii stands out for his systematic use of hadith, while Hanbali is more strict in following authentic hadith. The Shia school of thought with its distinctive characteristics also enriches the understanding of Islamic jurisprudence. This diversity shows that Islamic law is dynamic and contextual, allowing adaptation to changes in time and place. Therefore, Muslims need to prioritize tolerance and respect differences. The diversity of sects is not a cause of division, but rather a means of deepening religious understanding and practice. Dialogue between schools of thought is the key to strengthening unity, increasing mutual understanding, and creating harmony in social life.

Thriving: The Positive Experiences of Tenured Faculty Mothers in Counselor Education

ABSTRACTIn this feminist phenomenological study, experiences of tenured faculty mothers in counselor education were explored. The researchers developed five themes: (a) linking motherhood to counselor education, (b) creating work–life harmony, (c) establishing multiple layers of support, (d) celebrating the wins, and (e) pushing back and moving forward. These findings suggest that mothers in counselor education have a range of experiences that shape their personal and professional identities and buttress career success. Research, practice, and advocacy implications are addressed.

TOWARDS CONTINUOUS CHANGES THROUGH INTERACTING PROCESSES WITH SYNERGETIC SELF-REGULATION ACCORDING TO THE LAW OF HARMONY

Nature consists of many interconnected complex processes that continuously interact at different levels. These interactions create a harmonious dynamic system of nature. The natural system as complex continuously interacting processes with synergetic self-regulation according to the law of harmony emphasizes the importance of interrelations, synergy and harmony in nature as a whole. Synergetic self-regulation implies changes in interactions between the processes of the system that cannot be explained by simply adding up the properties of individual processes. Interactions can strengthen or weaken each other, which leads to adaptation and a change in the state of the system. The law of harmony in nature implies that a natural changeable system has the ability to self-regulate and harmonize processes. Interacting processes with synergetic self-regulation according to the law of harmony in public life are of current importance in the formation of the international world order.

PREVALENCE OF TYPHOID FEVER AMONG CITIZENS OF GOMBE STATE

Typhoid fever is one of the prevalence illnesses that bothers the lives of Gombe Citizens. It is one of the diseases that even lead to dead in some cases. Studies have shown how it mostly affects the developing world frequently. This paper adopted a quantitative method of data collection and have found out some lapses of both the ruler and the ruled on typhoid fever in Gombe. This study have investigated the adoption and application of basic life rules and regulation that will help to enhance the wellbeing of the individual in Gombe state. Both the rulers and ruled have a collective responsibility in order to have harmonious life. It is the duty of the ruler to provide all the necessary amenities for the welfare of the subjects. The ruler must maintain law and order, govern the nation, protects the people, provide resources and services and promote citizens’ rights and welfare. While the subject are bound to obey the rules stipulated in all aspects of life. However, the result indicate a negligence attitude by both the subjects and the rulers. Thus, the research suggested an effort towards making a strong rules by the leaders to help the subjects adjust themselves and comply with the order, while the rulers adhere to discharge their duties towards the subjects as prescribed by Islamic legislations.

Ethnocultural Renaissance and the Search for the Sacral Basis of Modernisation

The relevance of the topic is related to the modernization of regional ethnic cultures in Russia. Modernity lies at the heart of modern Russian civilization, offering the Western postmodernity with total anomie the imperative of preserving traditions. In turn, Russian modernity, being the heir to the Soviet version, is also transforming, actualizing the paradigm of ethnomodernity, which realizes ethno-cultural human capital.The author states that the epoch of realization of the ethnocultural potential of the multinational country, which is on the wave of ethno-cultural renaissance, has arrived. One of the conditions for its realization is the search for the sacral beginning in socio-cultural modernization. Today, in a difficult geopolitical situation for Russia, the public order for the ontology of sacred meanings of the development of society, which, unlike many Western countries, retains traditional foundations and morals, has become clear. Such searches are doubly relevant for the northern communities of the national republics of the Russian Federation, which have mainly preserved the mythological subconscious complex, oriented to sacredly colored goals and forms of expression of a decent life in harmony with the surrounding nature.The basic principles of formulating the sacral beginning for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) are proposed. The existence of correlation between ethno-cultural renaissance and socio-cultural modernization is stated. Renaissance is a natural cultural response to the unwillingness to break moral and ethical traditions fixed by dissociated ethnosymbolic complex. The first stage of renaissance processes in ethnic culture is manifested in art, folklore genres, revival of the purity and richness of the national language. The second stage includes scientific and technological creativity, commodity production and socio-economic growth. New ethno-cultural mechanisms of ontologisation of modernization development programmes are needed, through the inclusion of ideologemes with sacred beginning.

Attitudes, sat-chit-ananda and harmony in life in leisure

This study aims to reveal the importance of recreation areas and opportunities in terms of destinations by determining the effects of individuals' attitudes on sat-chit-ananda and harmony in life. The study was carried out in Istanbul due to the density of recreation areas. 263 surveys were gathered using simple random sampling and analyzed by SMARTPLS 4 in the scope of SEM modeling. The study’s results revealed that leisure attitudes affect sat-chit-ananda dimensions and that sat-chit-ananda affects individuals' harmony in life. In this context, it is essential to conduct collective works in destinations to meet sat-chit-ananda, which indicates spiritual well-being and is related to the emotional and cognitive perspectives of well-being, to create harmony.

Reflection of the Peaceful Life between Muslims and Christians in Desa Kertajaya: An Analytical Study from Qur’anic and Biblical Perspectives

Living in peace is, perhaps, a term or a situation that is longed for by every community in the world. Living in peace may mean living in a harmonious life, to be secure and prosperous, and to love one another in a community. In many cultures in the world, people can find the concept of peace, such as in language, worldview, art, and others. However, the owners of these cultures forget that they have that notion in their life. Thus, in many conflict issues, people in conflict within a particular culture often seek a third party to be a mediator. In this article, the researcher describes a case study of a peaceful life in a village in West Java, Indonesia, named Desa Kertajaya. The researcher observed that some aspects supporting the harmonious life in Desa Kertajaya bear similarity with the facets of peace found in either the Qur’ān, the Bible, or the Sundanese culture. The researcher collected the data for this study through participant observation and two types of interviews - semi-structured and unstructured interviews. The researcher used the data to develop a case study that involved thirteen Sundanese from Desa Kertajaya. The semi-structured interview included five questions that serve as a guide. Dissemination of Indonesian Nasionalism and Islamic Religiosity Trough Podcast

This study aims to identify and explore the values of Pancasila in the content of Habib Jafar’s podcast on Deddy Corbuzier’s Youtube channel. The qualitative study uses a media observation study approach. The subject matter in this study uses Pancasila values as the theory of analysis. The research data was obtained through documentation techniques. As for data analysis, it is obtained through the stages of data reduction, presentation and verification. This study confirms the existence of dimensions of Pancasila values in the content of Habib Jafar’s podcast, including the value of divinity in building tolerant religious awareness, the value of humanity in realizing a harmonious life, and the value of unity in strengthening diversity. The findings of this study confirm that there is a relationship between Islam and statehood in building the social life of Indonesian people who are tolerant in religion and state. The shortcomings of this study do not know the impact of podcast content on audiences, such as changes in attitudes that are in accordance with the values of Pancasila.
