Implementation of Lesson Study-Based Integrative Learning to Improving Students' Pedagogical Competence

This action research was carried out with the aim of observing and improving students' pedagogical competence as prospective educators through learning activities in the classroom. The research was conducted in a class consisting of 21 3rd year students from various social backgrounds. This research uses an action research method based on lesson study and was carried out for 4 months with a total of 32 lesson hours. The integrative learning approach is carried out using lesson study equipped with learning observation data, interviews and questionnaire instruments in each cycle. The research results show that there is an increase in students' pedagogical competence at each stage of implementing lesson study with the plan, do and see-evaluation stages. skills in making lesson plans increased from an average of 82 to 93, skills in managing integrative learning increased from an average of 83 to 90. Meanwhile, at the evaluation and reflection stage, students shared their practical learning experiences with practitioners in the classroom. This research has two important implications: firstly, this research shows that student activities have increased understanding in planning before teaching practice, secondly, teacher action research can be carried out to create problem-solving analyzes in pedagogical competence using an integrative learning model.

The effect of a unit prepared with a global history approach on the academic success of high school students: The example of the unit on Türkiye and the World during World War II

The global history approach emerged as a method for understanding the interactions and connections that have shaped the modern world, preventing fragmentation and providing a specific perspective on world-building. In this study, the global history approach, which has rapidly developed within the discipline of history and has become widespread not only in the United States but also in Europe and Asia, was examined and its effect on the academic achievement of high school students was analysed. This research, in which a quasi-experimental design was used, was limited to a total of 6 lesson hours for 3 weeks, taking into account the acquisitions of the unit. While the unit reflecting the global history perspective was applied to the students in the experimental group, the unit in the current history curriculum was presented to the students in the control group. High school 12th grade students, who were thought to be suitable for the subject and purpose of the study, were determined as the study group. In this context, the 5th unit of the Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism textbook, ‘Türkiye and the World in the World War II Process’ unit, and three different public schools, namely vocational and technical Anatolian High School, Anatolian High School and Anatolian Imam Hatip High School in İpekyolu district of Van province, were selected as schools. In the study, achievement test was applied to the students in both experimental and control groups as pre-test and post-test. The achievement test, consisting of 30 questions in total, was selected from the questions related to the research topic between 1998 and 2022 by ÖSYM. As a result of the research, it was determined that the history unit prepared with the global history approach had a significant and positive effect on the academic achievement of high school students.

Computational Thinking and the Circulatory System

The circulatory system is one of the complicated science subjects that science teachers must teach, presenting substantial conceptual learning challenges for students. Therefore, the aim of this study was to facilitate the teaching and learning of the circulatory system in a more concrete and understandable way. To achieve this, the study integrated computational thinking (CT) elements into science teaching and developed an unplugged circulatory system teaching module centered on CT principles. The unplugged CT approach, involves students recognizing CT elements in student-centered learning environments without computers through various tangible materials (paper, colored pencils, scissors, glue, colored cartons, puzzle pieces, stickers, etc.), various games, physical activities, competitions, kinesthetic activities, and more. In this student-centered learning environment the teacher guides students when they encounter difficulties in engaging and learning through unplugged CT activities. The unplugged teaching module consists of 10 different activities (4 activities shared due to space limitation) and lasts 4 weeks (16 lesson hours). As a result, thanks to the developed teaching module, students learned the concepts of the circulatory system more concretely and in a more organized way, showing how computational thinking elements are integrated into the subject through these activities.

The Investigation of Problem Solving Strategies in Mathematical Modelling of Middle School Seventh-Grade Students

This study is aimed at investigating the problem solving strategies of seventh-grade students in mathematical modelling. This study was carried out using case study method which is one of the qualitative research methods. In case study, model eliciting activities lasting a total of 22 lesson hours were implemented for six weeks Participants were eight students who were selected among fifteen seventh-grade students by purposive sampling method. Observation method was used in the research.Descriptive analysis was used for data analysis. The most commonly used strategy in mathematical modelling was “Establishing Equation and Inequality”. Investigation of text-based comprehension questions in emergency distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic

The purpose of this study was to analyze text-based comprehension questions asked by fourth-grade teachers in Turkish (L1) lessons in emergency distance education that started during the COVID-19 pandemic and to compare the results with those of other studies conducted in face-to-face educational settings. The text-based comprehension questions were evaluated in terms of different text types (narrative and expository) according to the distribution of the questions in the reading/listening process, answer source (whether the answer to the question was intratextual, extratextual, or intertextual), format, inference type, and teacher specificity. The study was designed to utilize a qualitative description method. Two fourth-grade teachers working in different primary schools were selected as participants. The data were collected through online lesson observations. A total of 56 lesson hours were observed and videotaped. The content analysis technique was applied for the analysis of the data. As in the results of previous studies, the present study, which was conducted in an emergency distance education environment, revealed that the text-based comprehension questions asked by teachers are generally asked after reading/listening, are answered with intratextual and extratextual sources, are prepared only in an open-ended question format, and are mainly of the propositional inference type. Additionally, it was found that teachers do not take the initiative to generate questions themselves and remain primarily dependent on the textbook.

Perception of Islamic Religious Education Teachers Towards the Change of the 2013 Curriculum to an Independent Curriculum

The change of curriculum from the 2013 curriculum to the independent curriculum has caused many problems in the field where many teachers are confused and do not fully understand the independent curriculum so that they are not ready to carry out learning using the independent curriculum. The unpreparedness is influenced by their perception of the independent curriculum launched by the government. This study is focused on finding out the perception of PAI teachers on the change of curriculum from the 2013 curriculum to the independent curriculum based on the aspects of changes in learning plan making, teaching and learning processes, lesson hours, and assessments in order to take generalizations related to the independent curriculum whether it can be well accepted or not. Literature study is the method used in this study and is analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study explained that the perception of PAI teachers towards the change of curriculum from the 2013 curriculum to the independent curriculum based on the aspects of changes in learning plan making, teaching and learning processes, lesson hours, and assessments was perceived positively so that the implementation of the independent curriculum could be well accepted by all circles.

An action research to overcome reading difficulties encountered after the Covid-19 pandemic

This study aimed to overcome the reading problems of a student who had reading difficulties due to the effect of distance education during the Covid-19 pandemic with reading fluency strategies. For this purpose, the study was conducted with a 5th grade student studying in Turkey. The study was conducted with action research, one of the qualitative research patterns. Texts appropriate to the student's age and reading level, as well as researcher and student diaries were used as data collection tools. The student's reading errors were determined and presented with descriptive data, and a reading action plan was prepared for the low-performing student. Over 18 lesson hours, a reading program incorporating strategies such as repetitive reading, paired reading, guided reading, word repetition, and word box techniques was implemented. Post-intervention evaluation revealed that the student’s reading level improved from the concern level to the instructional level, with notable progress in reading deficiencies. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating that students with reading difficulties can enhance their reading skills through appropriate methods and techniques, mitigating the adverse effects of the pandemic period.

Evaluasi Kinerja Mentoring Pendidikan Agama Islam Tingkat SMA dengan Metode Importance Performance Analysis

In the era of globalization and digitalization, teenagers are easily exposed to various negative behaviors such as promiscuity, alcohol consumption and inappropriate content on the internet. This negative behavior has a negative impact on the development of adolescent character and morals. Islamic Religious Education (PAI) has a very important role in forming the character and morals of students, especially at the secondary school level. The problem is that the time allocation for PAI in public schools is very limited. The time provided for 2-3 hours of lessons a week is considered insufficient to cover all PAI material. Limited time for PAI learning in public schools is a challenge that requires a solution, namely PAI mentoring activities. The problem of PAI mentoring in schools lies in the match between expectations and the reality of implementation felt by participants. This research aims to evaluate the performance of PAI mentoring at SMAIT Ummul Quro Bogor. This research uses a type of responsive evaluation research model (Responsive Evaluation). The evaluation method uses Importance Performance Analysis (IPA). This science method aims to determine the level of conformity between interests and performance which is then plotted using a Cartesian diagram. The data collection technique was through a questionnaire involving 405 student participants as respondents. Data from the questionnaire results collected were tested for validity and reliability. Next, it was analyzed using the IPA method. The IPA calculation results have a suitability level of 101%, which means the level of satisfaction with mentoring performance is high. In the Cartesian diagram, of the 20 performance indicator attributes, there are 15 attributes whose performance is satisfactory, namely a comfortable mentoring room, effective implementation of mentoring, mentor mastery of the material, responsiveness to participant complaints, readiness to serve participants, maintaining personal confidentiality, creating a sense of security, image the school's positive attitude towards mentoring, providing self-confidence to participants, ease of obtaining information, sensitivity to attention to suggestions and criticism as well as service that does not differentiate between status, Mentor's appearance during mentoring, Quickly providing mentoring information, and Speed ​​of mentor responding to participants. However, there needs to be improvements and improvements, especially in the availability of mentoring consultation rooms, availability of mentoring modules, timely mentoring hours, mentors establishing intense communication with mentoring participants, and providing individual attention.

Assessing Thermal Comfort in Studio Classrooms of an Institutional Building: Case of Composite Climate

Architectural studios represent unique indoor environments where the interplay of design, occupancy, and climate can significantly influence thermal comfort. This research article investigates the thermal comfort conditions in studio classrooms located within an institutional building in Lucknow, situated in composite climate. Lucknow subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and mild winters, poses distinct challenges for maintaining comfortable indoor conditions. A study on the indoor comfort level of a studio space, where both theory and drawing classes take place, was conducted to assess their thermal conditions during student lesson hours. The study was conducted over two distinct periods, in January and May of 2024, to cover two different seasons. Six studio classrooms distributed across three floors were systematically assessed to comprehensively evaluate thermal comfort parameters. The field study involved monitoring thermal comfort during a hot summer week and a cold winter week, each consisting of 3 working days from 8 am to 4 pm. Through a combination of quantitative measurements and qualitative observations, various factors influencing thermal comfort, such as temperature and occupant satisfaction, were analyzed. The findings of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of thermal comfort dynamics within studio classrooms in composite climates, offering insights that can inform building design and management strategies to enhance occupants comfort and well-being. . Development of primary school 4th grade students' awareness about gender equality in social studies course: A case study

In the research, it was aimed to examine the awareness and sensitivity of primary school fourth grade students towards gender equality and to give them an egalitarian perspective. This research was carried out within the framework of a case study as a qualitative research method and research design. A total of 24 children, 10 girls and 14 boys, who were studying in the fourth grade in a private education institution in Ordu in the 2021-2022 academic year, were selected as the study group of the research, according to the convenient sampling method, one of the purposive sampling types. Within the study,’s scope a workshop program consisting of a series of activities that will last for four weeks, 1 lesson hour (40 minutes) each week, was applied to the study group. The data obtained as a result of the workshop program were analyzed using the MaxQDA qualitative data analysis program. According to the results of the research, it has been revealed that the awareness status, views, and thoughts of the primary students about gender equality have changed positively with the workshops designed and implemented for primary students within the scope of gender equality in the primary school fourth grade social studies course.

Improving university students awareness of cookies used by web technologies

Web technologies are developing rapidly and although the advantages provided by these technologies are quite numerous, they also bring with them problems related to the security of personal data. Especially, the fact that personal data is obtained by using cookies on websites requires web users to be made aware of this issue. While cookies have important advantages in terms of providing fast and easy access to websites, they also have the ability to record and process what web users read, location information, IP addresses, user device information, e-mail addresses, usernames and passwords. It is not legal to record this data without the explicit consent of the person. However, this situation is generally unknown to users or users who have incomplete information. The aim of this study is to raise awareness of university students who frequently use web technologies about cookies so that they can ensure their personal data security with their own efforts. In line with this purpose, a mixed method study was implemented. 25 university students participated in this study. Participants were determined using the convenience sampling method. Online interactive training consisting of 12 lesson hours was organized for the participants. Since quantitative and qualitative data from the participants were collected simultaneously and support each other, a concurrent mixed method model was applied. Quantitative data were collected with awareness pre-test and post-test, and qualitative data were collected with the interview form. Test scores obtained by a single group at different times were analyzed with the Paired Samples t-Test. Qualitative data were also analyzed by content analysis method. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the participants' awareness levels about cookies increased significantly. In addition, the participants' knowledge about risks, advantages and working principles of cookies increased.

Conceptualizing Mathematics Student Teachers' Approaches towards Responding to Availability of Tools and Resources in the Context of Knowledge Quartet

The purpose of this study is to conceptualize the approaches of secondary mathematics student teachers towards contingencies encountered during the teaching process within the context of responding to availability of tools and resources. In order to achieve the goal of the study based on the grounded theory, the nine secondary mathematics student teachers’ lessons were observed, and recorded using a video camera, and semi-structured interviews were performed. The data collection process ended after 54 lesson hours of observation, that is, when code saturation was reached. As a result, four sub-codes in the context of responding to availability of tools and resources were identified within the approaches of participants in relation to contingent moments. It is thought that conceptualizing the approaches of participants towards unplanned situations encountered during lessons in real class environment would prove to be beneficial in teacher training.

So Easy to Write a Story With a Mind Map: An Experimental Study

This study aimed to determine the effect of mind mapping on story writing skills of the students. A pre-test, a post-test, and a semi-experimental research design were used in this study. The study group consisted of a total of 86 third-grade students; 33 students from the experimental group, 23 students from the control 1 group, and 30 students from the control 2 groups. Stories were written by the students in the experimental group by using the mind map method during 18 lesson hours. In the control 1 group, story topics were given to the students, and they were asked to write stories about them as homework during one lesson hour for 9 weeks. In the control 2 group, the researcher did not intervene in their lessons during the term. As a result of the research, there was an increase in the post-test writing skill scores of the experimental and control 1 groups. The mind map method and story writing with homework exercises improved students' writing skills.

The Effect of Project-Based Stem Education Approach on Academic Achievement and Stem Career Interests in Science

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the project-based STEM learning method prepared in accordance with the Science and Technology course curriculum on academic achievement and STEM Career Interest levels. Pre-test post-test control group experimental design was used in the study. In this context, the sample of the study consisted of 52 (n=26 experimental and n=27 control) volunteer 6th grade students studying in two different branches at Karatay Secondary School in Karatay district of Konya province in the second semester of 2021-2022 academic year. A placement test was administered in order to determine the branches in which the study would be conducted. According to the results of the exam, volunteer students studying in the closest level branches were included in the study. The students in the experimental group were taught according to the project-based STEM learning method prepared according to the outcomes of the Support and Motion System, Force and Motion, Sound Insulation, Thermal Insulation units for 64 lesson hours. The students in the control group were taught the above-mentioned units by the same instructor according to the existing program for 64 class hours. Both experimental and control group students were administered the skills-based academic achievement and STEM Career Interest Scale prepared by the Ministry of National Education as pre-test and post-test. The data obtained from the pre-test and post-test applications were evaluated in SPSS 26.0 package program. In the statistical analysis, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the students in the experimental and control groups in favor of the students in the experimental group (p<0.05). According to the findings obtained from the statistical analysis, it was concluded that the project-based STEM teaching method in science education increased the level of academic achievement and interest in STEM professions. Based on this result, it is predicted that students' academic achievement levels can increase with the more frequent use of project-based STEM learning method in science education by teachers

The Effect of Quantum Learning Model on Attitude, Anxiety, and Achievement of Middle School Students Towards Mathematics

We conducted this research to investigate the impact of the Quantum Learning Model (QLM) on the academic achievement, attitudes toward mathematics, and anxiety levels of seventh-grade middle school students. A total of fifty-six 7th-grade students participated in the research. The research used a quasi-experimental model with a pretest-posttest control group. The experimental group used QLM during the research process, while the control group used the current learning approach. We conducted the research for 28 lesson hours. We collected data using attitude, anxiety scale, and academic achievement tests. We applied tests to both groups before and after the experimental procedure. We used independent-samples-T-tests and paired-samples-T tests in the analyses. We also evaluated the journals of students and the researcher. Accordingly, QLM had a positive effect on middle school students' academic achievement in mathematics. The posttest mean scores of attitudes decreased significantly in the control group. The experimental group experienced a decrease in post-test mean scores of anxiety, which was not statistically significant, whereas the control group experienced a statistically significant increase in post-test scores. Students and teachers have expressed positive opinions about the use of note-taking and mind maps, which enhance the durability of learning, the establishment of a classroom environment and atmosphere conducive to QLM, and the implementation of celebration activities.

초등학교 사회 수업에서 노동인권교육 실천 경험에 관한 자문화기술지

The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of researcher who have practiced labor related human rights education in elementary school social lessons with an autoethnography and to provide implications for the operation of labor related human rights education linked to social studies. To gather evidence for this study, I complied a collection of lesson plans, student evaluations, and classroom observation records from a single semester. In addition, my own personal reflections and experiences as both a researcher and participant in the classroom served as a primary source of data. The research results are summarized as follows. First, I reorganized the curriculum by linking and integrating various subjects and creative experiential activities to practice labor related human rights education in social lessons, and conceived class activities by referring to various teaching and learning materials, but labor related human rights education could not be systematically dealt with. Second, the number of social lesson hours alone was not sufficient to deal with labor related human rights education. Third, it is not easy for fellow teachers to unite together, although the identity of a teacher who is a worker citizen must be established as a social textbook. Based on these research results, I would like to present implications for the practice of labor related human rights education in social studies lessons. First, it is necessary to develop teaching and learning materials for labor related human rights education centered on social studies achievement standards. Second, opportunities for understanding and experience of labor related human rights must be accompanied throughout educational activities. Third, it is necessary to change teachers’ perception of labor related human rights education.

Decision Support System For Hiring Honorary Teachers At State Junior High School 12 Kota Bengkulu Using The Simple Multi Attribute Rating Technique Method

Honorary teachers are auxiliary teachers who are given teaching time according to the number of teaching hours with a salary in accordance with the hours of lessons they teach and have been arranged by several schools for the smooth teaching process. The acceptance of honorary teachers carried out at junior high school 12 Kota Bengkulu is still done onventionally without paying attention to quality and competence in the selection process, resulting in human error, open opportunities for nepotism activities. For this reason, a decision support system is needed that can help solve these problems. The method implemented in this system is SMART (Simple Multi Attribute Rating Technique). The simplicity of the SMART method in analyzing responses, responding to the wishes of decision makers, and the simplicity of calculations in decision making. This SMART method aims to facilitate the decision making of honorary teacher acceptance at SMP Negeri 12 Bengkulu City so as not to use the manual system anymore. From the results of the tests that have been carried out, it can be concluded that the honorary teacher acceptance system with the SMART method can provide a good and more objective assessment.

Development of domino media to improve problem solving and mathematical communication for Islamic boarding school students

Mathematical problem solving and communication skills are important factors in learning mathematics. Therefore, it is necessary to develop learning media, especially in Islamic boarding school curricula where the learning load is greater than the regular curriculum. On this basis, the aim of this research is to develop domino card media to improve problem solving and mathematical communication skills of Islamic boarding school students. Development was carried out at Al-Izzah IIBS Batu Middle School, Malang, using the ADDIE model. Data obtained from documents, observations, questionnaires and tests were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative approaches. Based on the results of the validation analysis, the domino card media was declared valid from the aspects of design, material, curriculum, consistency, language, practicality, problem solving development and mathematical communication. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of using domino card media in learning is classified as effective, if seen from the results of the problem solving ability test with an N-Gain score of 76.79%, and the results of the mathematical communication ability test with an N-Gain score of 61.79%. Many factors cause this non-optimality, including a lack of mathematics lesson hours, a busy lesson schedule that is less suited to conditions, many demands on students, and the learning load in the curriculum.

The article contains an analysis of the empirical material created during the internship of students’, future primary school teachers, as a result of their observations, followed by team analysis and gathering in portfolios. Observations were conducted for 6 weeks in 30 different schools, lasting 120 hours (60 hours of lessons typical for initial grades and 60 hours of English lessons). Fragments from portfolios devoted to the teaching methods that children are exposed to were selected for the study. Interpretive analysis of documents helped to indicate a very low status of pupils’ cognitive independence, blocking creative thinking, and preventing peer learning. The strength and persistence of this teaching model creates the risk of developing a habit of waiting for guidance on how to think and leading to a permanent inability to reason beyond that borrowed from others.
