Investigation of Teacher Candidates' Opinions about Instructional Technologies and Material Usage

The purpose of this study is to determine the awareness of teacher candidates about instructional technologies and materials and the ways of giving place in instruction by integrating them with different activities, to reveal opinions about their usage. Seventeen female and eight male, in total twenty five participants are sampling. The ages of the participants within the group heterogeneous between twenty two and thirty five.According to the purpose, the opinions of the teachers candidates who have been taken ‘Instructional Technology and Material Design’ lesson in the ‘Pedagogical Formation Training Certificate Program’ which is a pre-service teacher training program and have been practiced learning outputs of this lesson in other practical instruction lessons and in their lectures in the teaching internship school, were taken by writing. In this context the study is designed as a qualitative research. The findings are presented in thematically coded and supported by mind maps as visuals.It has been seen that teacher candidates are focused on different instructional technologies and materials that they learned in the Instructional Technology and Material Design’ lesson. In addition different experiences of teacher candidates about the usage of instructional technologies and materials have been identified.

The Role of Work Motivation and Job Satisfaction in Creating Employee Performance (Study on Permanent Lecturers of STIE Indonesia Banking School)

This research aims to determine the role of work motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic factors) and job satisfaction as an employee performance maker on STIE Indonesia Banking School permanent lecturers. The population in this study were all STIE Indonesia Banking School permanent lecturers in 2015. We conducted a survey and the respondents was taken from STIE Indonesia Banking School permanent lecturers for 31 respondents. We used questionnaire method to collect information from the respondents. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) with Smart PLS 3.0 software. The results showed that intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors has a positive effect on job satisfaction, furthermore intrinsic factors has a positive effect on employee performance. Whereas extrinsic factors and job satisfaction has no effect on employee performance.

Improving Human Papillomavirus Vaccination Uptake in College Students: A Socioecological Perspective

ABSTRACTBackground: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates remain relatively low, despite new recommendations found in Healthy People 2020. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine vaccination rates, identify factors that influenced initiation/continuance of HPV vaccine series, and identify levels of influence for HPV health behaviors in college students. Methods: Two hundred first- and second-year college students completed an online survey to determine HPV knowledge, vaccine perceptions/behaviors, and Health Education sources. The socioecological model provided a framework to examine students’ responses regarding sources of influence for current and future health behaviors and vaccine uptake. Results: Forty-eight percent reported receiving the HPV vaccine, yet only 7 out of 36 males had been vaccinated. Students indicated being most influenced by community/organizational factors such as physicians (79.5%), mother (75%), and father (36%). Discussion: Gender and ethnicity were found to be predictive of vaccine uptake, whereas HPV knowledge did not independently contribute to vaccination rates. Students reported primarily preferring to hear about sexual health issues from school classes or lectures, a health care provider, media sources, or family members. Translation to Health Education Practice: Results highlight the importance of moving beyond HPV intervention strategies that function only to improve knowledge and include components that address various levels of influence.

Russian emigrants as professors in the Grammar and Teachers School in Pirot

The study deals with identification of Russian emigrants who worked as lecturers in Pirot Grammar and Teachers School in the period between the two world wars as well as with sketching the segments of their biographies on the basis of the archive data of the Archive of Yugoslavia and archive of the Ministry of Education. As results of the research, the study states the names of 26 Russian emigrants who worked in the two aforementioned schools in the period from 1920, when their names appeared for the first time, till the beginning of 1940, when the Russian names are found for the last time among the lecturers. Parts of their biographies which are present in the following text mostly relate to their stay in Pirot, except in cases where archive data were used to add to the story with even more relevant information. This study can be considered as providing additional information for the research of the phenomenon of Russian emigration in Pirot, which has not been studied so far. The study will also be useful to those who will deal with the general history of Russian emigration in Serbia.

Educando para o diagnóstico precoce da hanseníase no município de Rondonópolis - Mato Grosso

O projeto de extensão “Hanseníase: diagnóstico precoce é a solução” é realizado com parceria da Secretaria de Saúde há 4 anos com o Curso de Enfermagem UFMT/ICEN/CUR. Objetivou realizar atividades de orientação sobre prevenção da hanseníase nas áreas das unidades de saúde, educação em serviço, palestras em escolas e participação em mutirões, entre março de 2014 a março de 2015. O público-alvo foram 1764 moradores, além dos alunos e profissionais das escolas e equipes de saúde. Foram encaminhados 22 casos suspeitos, sendo confirmados 11 novos, formação de profissionais e nas escolas. Nesta ação de cidadania, o projeto contribuiu significativamente com o diagnóstico precoce da hanseníase e com a saúde pública do município. Sugere-se que novos projetos sejam realizados para favorecer a qualidade da atenção básica, estimulando a participação da academia através da extensão universitária.

Transforming taxonomies into rubrics: Using SOLO in social science and inclusive education

Designing assessment rubrics has become an important pedagogical practice for lecturers in the Wits School of Education (WsoE) in the recognition of writing as a valuable tool for teaching and learning across disciplines. This paper describes and reflects on the process of adapting the SOLO taxonomy (Structure of Observed Learning Outcomes) devised by Biggs and Collis (1982) into assessment criteria for two assessment tasks in Social Science Methodology and Inclusive Education (Learning Support 1) courses. Through a collaborative relationship between the course presenter (Rembach) and the WSoE teaching and learning advisor (Dison) over a four-year period, a number of rubrics based on the SOLO taxonomy were created, revised and refined for specific tasks in order to determine how students were responding to the set tasks at different levels of cognition. The paper demonstrates several learning benefits that emerged from the process of adapting the SOLO taxonomy for different task requirements, such as better scaffolding of tasks, enhanced student learning, collaborative professional development and better modelling. Given the diverse student population in the School of Education, there is a strong need to establish a deeper and more nuanced understanding of how course and assessment tasks influence student learning. As assessment plays a fundamental role in shaping student learning in a course (Biggs, 2011), we need to understand how it can contribute meaningfully to promoting higher order thinking outcomes in education courses. The paper illustrates the central role of assessment criteria in strengthening the relationship between lecturer and student development in designing assessments for these two courses in the Wits School of Education.

Nigerian dental students′ permissive tendency to the proposed organized incorporation of stem cells application into dental curriculum: A cross-sectional study

Aim: This study aims to examine the Nigerian dental students' permissive tendency to the proposed organized incorporation of stem cells application into undergraduate and postgraduate dental curriculum. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study of Nigerian final year dental students was conducted between April and June 2014 using the modified Sede et al. questionnaire on stem cell use in dentistry knowledge and attitude questionnaire as the data collection tool. Results: Of the 110 participants, 63.6% reported awareness of stem cell use in dentistry with their leading information sources as school lecture and internet. Subjective and objective stem cell knowledge assessment revealed inadequate knowledge among the majority of the participants. Subjective knowledge emerged as the significant determinant of objective stem cell knowledge. About a third (32.7%) of the participants reported a positive attitude toward stem cell application and objective stem cell knowledge was the only significant determinant of attitude. The majority (82.7%) of the participants reported a positive permissive tendency to the proposed organized incorporation of stem cells application into undergraduate, and postgraduate dental curriculum and attitude toward stem cell emerged as the only significant determinant. Conclusion: High positive permissive tendency to the proposed organized incorporation of stem cell application into undergraduate and postgraduate dental curriculum was noted among the participants. Increasing stem cell knowledge will improve attitude toward stem cell use which will ultimately increase positive permissive tendency.

The present paper is categorized as a research paper. The research objective is the analysis of scientific basis for the contents of course documentation for Federal State Standards for Higher Education. The paper explores and analyses problems of adaptation of contents and organization of Russian higher education to the results of the Bologna process. The analysis indicates that mechanical approaches to the interpretation of the concept of competences exert an overwhelming influence on the development of methodical guidelines and normative frameworks of organizational and methodic Documentation for Federal State Educational Standards of Higher Education. These approaches manifest in formal bureaucratic descriptions of proficiency in basic professional education programs presented as competency passports whose current contents hold no practical significance whatsoever for training modern specialists. The paper proposes original practices for development of course documentation conforming to Federal State Standards for Higher Education that implements a competence-based approach based on the fundamental properties of cross-disciplinarity, polyvalence and cumulativity, as well as supplementary materials on competence formation methods. The proposed recommendations and practical materials can also be used by lecturers in higher schools and university department managers for development of course documentation to implement a competence-based approach.

A longitudinal evaluation of the Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) campaign for the Philippine crocodile Crocodylus mindorensis in northern Luzon, Philippines

The Philippine crocodile Crocodylus mindorensis is Critically Endangered and its range is restricted to a few localities in human‐dominated landscapes. Therefore, the survival of this species in the wild depends strongly on the support of local people. Communication and education are prerequisites for successful in situ conservation. Over a 12 year period, the Mabuwaya Foundation distributed posters, calendars and comic books, organized theatre shows, gave school lectures, facilitated community meetings and established a crocodile rearing station/visitor centre to mobilize local support for the conservation of the Philippine crocodile in the northern Sierra Madre in Luzon. This paper documents changes in people's awareness of and attitudes towards the conservation of the Philippine crocodile, and changes in people's behaviour in ten barangays (villages) in the municipality of San Mariano. Most people living in crocodile habitat now know that the Philippine crocodile is protected by law and support the conservation of the species in the wild. Hunting, the destruction of nests and the use of destructive fishing methods have all significantly declined in these areas. As a result of the integrated conservation programme, the Philippine crocodile population is slowly recovering.

Occupational Stress as correlates of Emotional Intelligence among Government School Lecturers (P.G.T)

Music has been used therapeutically for centuries, but only recently in treatment of mental health issues. Music therapy is defined by Bruscia as a “systematic process of intervention wherein the therapist helps the client to promote health, using music experiences and relationships that develop through them.” Music Therapy varies cross culturally. In India it is mainly used in connection to religion through chanting and faith healing. It hasn’t yet been considered at a broader scope such as in Neurologic Music Therapy or Psychoanalytic Music Therapy which are used in other countries. In this review, we consider the efficacy of music therapy in the Indian Context in relation to treatment of psychiatric disorders, especially as psychotherapy is still not widely accepted by the Indian Subcontinent. It is also not effective in all cases.

A Novel Approach for Automatic Timetable Generation

The manual system of preparing time table in colleges is very time consuming and tedious task which usually ends up with various classes clashing either at identical room or with same teachers having more than one class at a time. Due to manual approach, proper use of resources is neither effective nor efficient. To overcome all these problems we propose to make an automated system with computer assisted timetable generator. The system will take various inputs like number of subjects, teachers, maximal lectures a teacher can conduct, priority of subject and topics to be covered in a week or a lecture, depending upon these inputs it will generate possible time tables for working days of the week, making optimal use of all resources in a way that will best suit the constraints. An appropriate timetable is then chosen from the optimal solutions generated.Timetable creation is a very arduous and time consuming task. To create timetable it takes lots of patience and man hours. To create timetable it requires lots of time and man power .In our paper we have tried to reduce these difficulties of generating timetable by Heuristic Algorithm.

How podcasts influence medical students' learning - a descriptive qualitative study

Background: Podcasting of lectures is increasingly used in higher education. It is popular with students as it provides a modern e-learning tool that reinforces learning and facilitates engagement with learning material. Podcasts have, however, not been used much in medical education in Africa. This article explores the influence podcasts have on how students in an African medical school approach their learning material. Methods: This is a descriptive qualitative study encompassing six focus group discussions with a total of 38 students from each of the six study years in the medical programme. Results: The feedback from the students called for continuous and extensive implementation. Themes identified included: a novel way to learn; complementing classroom learning; providing ease of mind (a safety net); and the influence of the lecturer on student learning. Students did not find that podcasts negatively influenced class attendance. Enthusiastic acceptance translated into active engagement with the learning material. Discussion: The way the students used the podcasts fits the active learning double tenet of student activity and student engagement in using a particular instructional method. The podcasts allowed the students to be more adventurous in their learning and changed the way they approached their learning. Situating the learning in the students’ context and within their control played an important role in this. Conclusion: Medical education in Africa is moving towards larger classes and increasingly decentralised clinical training. Podcasts of medical lectures in medical schools in Africa are an innovative and effective tool to enhance medical students’ learning.

The Features of Manifestation of Students’ Subjectness

The article is of current importance in the field of pedagogics and psychology of higher education as it reveals psychological prerequisites for formation of a specialist and his/her productive self-realization as of the subject of activity. The purpose of the paper is to study the features of manifestation of students’ subjectness which ensures success in mastering professional education. The author considers the conception of this phenomenon as a psychological formation and discloses its manifestation through a set of subject actions of a student. The main subject actions include self-actualization and self-control, which provide the quality of the student subjectness manifestation in the process of mastering professional competence. The materials of the present paper can be useful for high school lecturers and students seeking for self-improvement and self-development.

Abstract Traditionally, the 42nd Winter School on Vibroacoustical Hazards Suppressions national conference is organized by Upper Silesian Division of the Polish Acoustical Society. The conference again is organized in Szczyrk. As at previous year, the conference has two co-organizers, i.e. Institute of Physics – Science-Didactic Center at the Silesian University of Technology and the Committee of Acoustics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The conference is a forum for all environmental vibroacoustic fields. Particularly it concerns traffic noise, industry noise, vibroacoustics of machines, room acoustics, building acoustics, noise protection and similar problems. Works which are presented during the School are theoretical, experimental, measuring, technical, applied and normative. The School lectures and other conference materials will be published in the “Materials of the XLII Winter School on Vibroacoustical Hazards Suppressions” (in Polish) edited by dr. Roman Bukowski. 4 Abstract: Timetable creation is a very arduous and time consuming task. To create timetable it takes lots of patience and man hours. Time table is created for various purposes like to organize lectures in school and colleges, to create timing charts for train and bus schedule and many more. To create timetable it requires lots of time and man power .In our paper we have tried to reduce these difficulties of generating timetable by Genetics Algorithm. By using Genetic algorithm we are able to reduce the time require to generate time table and generate a timetable which is more accurate, precise and free of human errors. The first phase contains all the common compulsory classes of the institute, which are scheduled by a central team. The second phase contains the individual departmental classes. Presently this timetable is prepared manually, by manipulating those of earlier years, with the only aim of producing a feasible timetable.

Structure and Content of Higher Professional School Lecturer Education Competence

Article aims to develop the structure and content of higher professional school lecturer education competence as a lecturer professionalism should be evaluated not only on the quality of the studies, but also for his participation in education activities in higher school. It is needed to rely on a stating that education competence is an integral feature of professional and educational activities aimed at the effectiveness of the educational process in higher professional school in developing its structure and content. In the structure of the lecturer education competence there are four components: humanologic, socio-pedagogical, organizational and methodical, professional personal. Their content is disclosed in knowledge, skills, abilities and personal qualities as necessary for the implementation of the education activities in higher professional school. The presented structure of high school lecturer education competence facilitates the efficient evaluation of the competences, the identification of the gaps in the competencies development levels and their correction with additional measures and means aimed to their effective formation.
