T HE geographic effects of the deepening of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Ship Channels depend primarily upon economic considerations. The mere existence of an improved channel will manifestly produce no change in the economic conditions now prevailing in the Prairie States and adjacent Canada and can therefore have no influence upon the geographic conditions in this district.
