Addressing Barriers to HPV Screening Among Women: A Study Overview

Introduction: A major challenge in the success of HPV screening programs is achieving 70% coverage of women aged 30-69. This study conducted a survey to examine the factors influencing the willingness of woman in that age group to actively engage HPV screening program.Method: Socio-demographic data, knowledge levels, cervical cancer screening uptake, and willingness to participate in the government’s routine screening program were collected digitally using cross-sectional study. Factors associated with knowledge, participation, and willingness to engage program measured using logistic regression analysis.Result: Among the 87 eligible respondents, 96.6% had heard about cervical cancer mostly via internet, and 51% categorized as having low level knowledge. The percentage of participants willingness to participate in program was 67.82% below the percentage government target coverage. Factors correlated with willingness included: age group 36-40 (aOR = 1.865, 95% CI = 0.567-6.129) and 41-45 (aOR = 2.93, 95% CI = 0.762-11.272), monthly household expense (aOR = 1.682, 95% CI = 0.684-4.138), having relatives suffer cervical cancer (aOR = 2.764, 95% CI = 0.790-9.672), history of HPV vaccination (aOR = 1.187, 95% CI = 0.593-7.539).Conclusion: Respondent willingness to participate in HPV screening program remains to be improved. Various ways to increase participation in screening programs need to be developed to reach various populations of women.

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices of hygiene among children in schools of Central Kazakhstan: a cross-sectional study

BackgroundThe issue of good hygiene among school-aged children is crucial for public health and sustainable development. Despite the availability of global studies covering countries with different socio-economic conditions, there is a lack of local data reflecting the specifics of Kazakhstan. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the level of knowledge, attitude and practice of schoolchildren regarding personal and public hygiene in schools of Central Kazakhstan.MethodsSchool-based cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2024 to December 2024 in six schools of Central Kazakhstan. The simple random sampling technique was used to select the school. A computer-generated sequence of random numbers was used to randomly select students. Subsequently, 382 students aged 11–18 years were selected from a total of 72.179 students. The data were collected through a questionnaire using the online Google forms service. It consisted of socio-demographic data and information on knowledge and practice of personal and public hygiene of students in schools. The data were computerized. A statistical analysis of the data was carried out using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). P < 0.05 with a 95% confidence interval was considered statistically significant.ResultsThe results showed significant gender differences in hygiene knowledge and behavior. More than 90% of students knew about the basic rules of personal hygiene, with girls demonstrating higher knowledge and practices compared to boys (e.g., brushing teeth twice a day: 97% of girls vs. 87.8% of boys, P < 0.001). Hand washing before eating was known to 99% of girls and 92.8% of boys (P < 0.05). In terms of hygiene practices, girls brushed their teeth twice a day more often (68.7% of girls vs. 57.5% of boys, P < 0.05). However, there were differences in hygiene compliance at school due to insufficient infrastructure, such as lack of soap, hot water and poor condition of restrooms.ConclusionThe study revealed a high level of knowledge about personal hygiene among school students in Karaganda, especially among girls. However, practical compliance with hygiene rules was often limited by infrastructural problems in schools. Strengthening hygiene education programs and improving sanitary conditions in educational institutions is necessary.

Insights into Disaster Management among Emergency Paramedical Staffs: A Cross-sectional Study at a Tertiary Care Hospital in Tamil Nadu, India

Introduction: Disasters can be natural (e.g., cyclones and earthquakes) or man-made (e.g., chemical spills). Unpredictable disasters and multifaceted damage necessitate that healthcare providers be prepared to manage victims with varying skills and care to mitigate the impact of these disasters. Aim: To assess various aspects pertaining to disaster preparedness and management among paramedical staff in the emergency department of a tertiary care hospital. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India. Seventy paramedical staff members in the emergency department were included in the study and given a pretested semistructured questionnaire. The collected data was entered into Excel, and the associations between demographic factors and insights were measured using the Chi-square test in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 27.0. Results: In this study, 44 (62.9%) participants were female. This study showed that 91.4% of the staff had adequate knowledge, while 82.9% demonstrated adequate practice. In the knowledge domain, there were no significant differences across demographic variables. However, in the practice domain, there was a significant difference based on gender (p-value<0.05). A significant association was found between knowledge and practice adequacy (χ2 =26.91, p-value<0.001), indicating that staff members with adequate knowledge are more likely to practice adequately. Conclusion: This study concluded that the levels of knowledge and practice regarding disaster preparedness are adequate among the majority of staff. Management should organise medical education and training programs frequently to achieve standardised levels of preparedness.

Knowledge, attitude, and practice among the Indian population regarding COVID-19 using LASI-DAD COVID-19 data

During the COVID-19 pandemic, India was one of the worst-hit countries in terms of the number of cases and deaths. Knowledge, attitude, and practice play an important role in reducing disease transmission. This study uses a nationally represented large data set to understand the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of COVID-19 among the Indian population. This cross-sectional study utilized Diagnostic Assessment of Dementia for the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI-DAD) COVID-19 data which provides information on respondents’ demographics, socioeconomic effects, health status, behavior, perceptions, and attitudes toward COVID-19. Descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression were performed to find the results. Out of 3,797 respondents, 1,929 (50.8%) accounted for males and 1,868 (49.2%) for females; rural respondents were 40.3% and urban were 59.7%. The findings show that the respondent’s knowledge about <br /> COVID-19 was improved from rounds 1 to 4 and 7, but attitude from round 2 to round 8 and behavior from round 1 to round 9 were poor. In multivariate analysis, males (AOR=1.855; CI=1.129-3.048; p=0.015) and people residing in urban areas (AOR=1.698; CI=1.050-2.745; p=0.031) had a good level of knowledge towards COVID-19 when compared to their females, and rural counterparts. Despite a good level of knowledge about COVID-19 among the Indian population, attitudes and practices towards COVID-19 were poor. There is a need to establish and implement effective policies and interventions to improve people’s behavior towards COVID-19 and similar pandemics that the world might encounter in the future.

Adult Vaccination Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior in Rural Tamil Nadu: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Adult vaccination is a crucial yet underutilized component of public health, especially in rural areas where access to healthcare services is limited. Inadequate awareness regarding adult immunization adversely impacts individual health, healthcare systems, and economic productivity. Objective: To assess the knowledge, attitude, and behavior related to adult vaccination among rural population, Tamil Nadu. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted among 260 healthy adults (18 to 80 years) in rural Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu, used simple random sampling method. Data were collected using a pre-tested, structured, and validated self-administered questionnaire, focusing on adult vaccination knowledge, attitude, and behavior. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS version 25. Results: Among 260 participants, 41.9% were aged 18-40 years. Covid-19 vaccine had the highest knowledge level (77%). Logistic Regression showed literacy (AOR:4.95) and socioeconomic status (AOR:2.43) significantly associated with knowledge. Likewise, literacy (AOR:3.65) and socioeconomic status (AOR:3.53) were significantly associated with attitude towards adult vaccination (p <0.05). Conclusion: The study findings underscore education, occupation, and socioeconomic status have a significant impact on adult vaccination acceptance. Addressing barriers to immunization through awareness campaigns and policy interventions is critical to improving adult vaccine uptake in rural populations.

AI-driven digital platforms accelerate education and adoption of newly implemented treatment guideline recommendations.

e13671 Background: Advances in Research continually drive improvements in patient care, with numerous breakthroughs driving updates to clinical guidelines. However, a significant challenge lies not only in communicating these cutting-edge advancements but also in educating physicians and patients about their value and driving their adoption into clinical practice. In this study we evaluated the knowledge and adoption gaps of a newly added treatment guideline in a cohort of prostate cancer (PC) patients (pts) searching for treatment options using an AI-based digital platform and the impact of personalized education provided to the pts on the platform. Methods: The analysis was performed on a cohort of 103 newly diagnosed intermediate-risk prostate cancer (irPC) pts recommended for screening with MRI-guided biopsy (MRIGB). MRIGB was added to national guidelines as a recommended procedure in March 2023 We evaluated knowledge levels, conversion rates following educational interventions, and potential barriers to information access. This analysis utilized data from Leal Health, an AI-driven direct-to-patient treatment decision support platform. Results: Out of 103 irPC pts recommended for MRIGB, only 18 (19.4%) underwent the procedure, with no notable differences in baseline characteristics (e.g., age, race or gleason score). Pts who did not go through MRIGB had no knowledge of the procedure, with the majority having previously undergone standard transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy (TRUS). 70.3% of patients were affiliated to community centers (CC) and 29.7% were treated at Academic Medical Centers (AMC). A profound effect was observed based on the medical facility where pts were treated. 47% of pts affiliated with AMC underwent MRIGB, compared to only 16% at CC (p < 0.0001). Of the 79 pts who lacked prior knowledge of MRIGB, their education resulted in immediate adoption of the procedure in 5% of pts. Patients who opted out of immediately moving forward with MRIGB cited concerns about invasiveness and need for additional biopsies (54.5%), lack of nearby facilities (10.9%), preference for alternative non-invasive treatments (10.9%), physician recommendation (5.5%), and insurance constraints (3.6%) as the main reason for their decision. Conclusions: Despite the proven clinical benefits of newly added treatments to clinical guidelines, many eligible patients remain unaware of these options for extended periods. Limited access to knowledge, particularly in community settings, poses a significant challenge. AI-driven digital platforms such as Leal address this gap by delivering personalized treatment plans accessible education, empowering patients to make informed decisions about their care. The AI platform can expedite adaption of innovative treatments, driving their integration into practice and ultimately improving outcomes.

Teachers' Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes on Game-Based Approach Towards Student Engagement

The study aimed to determine the teachers’ knowledge, skills and attitudes on game-based approach towards student engagement among public school teachers of Baungon District, during the School Year 2023-2024. Specifically, it examined the teachers’ level on knowledge, skills, and attitude on the game-based approach; the level of student engagement in terms of behavioral, emotional and cognitive and the significant relationship between the teachers’ level of knowledge, skills and attitudes on game – based and the level of student engagement. This study involved one hundred fifty (150) public elementary school teachers using universal sampling procedure. Findings revealed that the teachers have positive outlook towards game-based approaches in education. It indicates readiness and willingness to incorporate game-based learning into their teaching practices. The teachers perceive a high level of student engagement on behavioral, emotional and cognitive domains. The relationship between teachers’ level of knowledge, skills and attitudes on game-based learning and the level of student engagement across three dimensions: behavioral, emotional, and cognitive indicate a very strong significant relationships.

Oral healthcare issues among nurses involved in renal care: text-mining analysis of free-text descriptions

BackgroundIn this study, we investigated the challenges faced by nurses in the oral management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) using text mining.MethodsData were collected via the web from 175 Japanese nurses caring for patients with CKD. Participants noted the difficulties of oral management in free-text comments. The questionnaire included questions concerning the level of knowledge regarding the association between oral hypofunction and CKD. The data were analyzed using KH Coder for qualitative text mining.ResultsA total of 4515 words were acquired. Characteristic co-occurrence relationships among frequently occurring words included “patient-difficult-dialysis,” “patient-oral-cavity,” “observe-mask-wear,” “lack-knowledge,” and “lack-manpower.” In the correspondence analysis, nurses with more oral knowledge tended to list specific examples of difficulties, such as dealing with patients with oral dryness and oral management systems.ConclusionsText-mining analysis revealed the following characteristics: difficulty in observing the oral cavity in a clinical setting where dialysis is performed, patients wearing masks after the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, lack of knowledge, and lack of workforce. Nurses with a better understanding of the relationship between oral function and CKD tended to be more specific regarding perceived difficulties.

Awareness and Knowledge of Liver Diseases in Relation to Demographic Variables in the General Population of Pakistan

Liver diseases are a growing public health concern worldwide, yet public awareness and understanding of these conditions remain inadequate. Objectives: To assess the level of awareness and knowledge regarding liver diseases among patients and examine how these vary according to demographic factors such as age, gender, education, and residence. Methods: This cross-sectional, observational study was conducted at the Gastroenterology Outpatient and Indoor departments at Combined Military Hospital Lahore from 1st February 2025 till 30th April 2025. All patients meeting the inclusion criteria will be asked to fill out a standard questionnaire, the regional liver index study, and some questions from previously done research assessing the patients' knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding chronic liver disease. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Results: Out of 200 participants, 75% reported general awareness of liver diseases, with hepatitis being the most recognized condition (60%). However, only 19% of respondents demonstrated good knowledge, while 43% and 38% had moderate and poor knowledge. Knowledge levels were significantly associated with education level (p < 0.001) and place of residence (p = 0.03), but not with gender (p = 0.22). Only 28% were aware of the hepatitis B vaccine. Traditional media and the internet were the most cited sources of information. Conclusion: It is concluded that although awareness of liver diseases exists among the population, specific knowledge remains limited, particularly among individuals with lower educational levels and those in rural areas. Targeted educational initiatives are needed to bridge this knowledge gap and improve liver health outcomes.

Knowledge and behaviors of Turkish dentists regarding rational drug use in pediatric patients: a cross-sectional survey

BackgroundMedication use is a highly sensitive issue, especially in children, as they have different physiology than adults. Assessing the accuracy and awareness of drug prescribing practices of dentists, who play an important role in drug use, is critical for developing effective health policies and professional education programs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and behaviors of dentists caring for pediatric patients regarding rational drug use and the factors associated with these behaviors.Materials and methodsIn this cross-sectional study, the sample consisted of 260 Turkish dentists. Participants included general dentists, pediatric dentists and pediatric dentistry residency students. A special questionnaire was developed for data collection. The first part of the questionnaire consisted of sociodemographic data, the second part of the questionnaire consisted of questions about the status and desire for rational drug use education, and the third part of the questionnaire consisted of multiple-choice questions assessing the dentists’ knowledge and behaviors related to rational drug use. The 6 multiple-choice questions determined to evaluate the level of knowledge had one or more correct answers and each correct answer was accepted as 1 point. A scoring system with a total of 20 points was developed with the correct answers given to these questions.ResultsGeneral dentists scored the lowest in knowledge (mean = 11.71), while pediatric dentistry residents scored the highest (mean = 14.38), (p < 0.05). Knowledge level was not statistically associated with receiving rational drug use training (p > 0.05). The knowledge level of the participants with a professional experience of 10 years or more was found to be lower than those with less experience (p < 0.05).ConclusionThis study reveals a lack of knowledge on rational drug use, especially among general dentists and dentists with more than 10 years of professional experience. This finding clearly shows that the scope of educational programs should be expanded and post-graduation training should be provided to ensure retention of knowledge.Clinical trial numberNot applicable.
