Mapping the evolution of FinTech and digital payments: a bibliometric analysis of the shift to a cashless economy (2015–2024)

Purpose This study provides a comprehensive, decade-long bibliometric map of the FinTech and digital payments research landscape (2015–2024). It aims to identify the field's intellectual structure, most influential contributors, thematic concentrations and persistent research gaps to guide future academic and policy efforts. Design/methodology/approach The study employs a bibliometric approach using data from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection. Biblioshiny, RStudio and VOSviewer were used to conduct performance analysis, co-citation analysis, thematic mapping and co-authorship networks. A total of 4,471 documents were analyzed, and patterns in publication trends, citation influence, keyword co-occurrence and institutional affiliations were explored. Findings Results show an exponential growth in FinTech-related publications, with China, the United States and the EU leading global research output. Blockchain, AI, CBDCs and DeFi dominate thematic clusters. Despite rapid advancements, substantial gaps remain in regulatory harmonization, cybersecurity resilience. The findings also highlight significant regional disparities in research focus and a modest level of international collaboration. Originality/value As one of the first decade-long bibliometric evaluations of the FinTech field, this study provides a crucial data-driven foundation for academics, policymakers and practitioners. It offers a definitive map of the field's trajectory, highlights its most pressing challenges, and provides a clear basis for shaping future research agendas to foster a more inclusive and resilient global digital financial ecosystem.

MethodAnalysis of top influential researcher’s highlights key contributors shaping the field’s theoretical and methodological advancements. Prominent scientific journals, particularly in marketing, consumer behavior, and information systems, serve as primary publication outlets, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue. ResultsGlobal research contributions by nation indicate that the United States, China, and India are leading producers, supported by active collaborations illustrated in the timeline network visualization of country partnerships. Co-citation analysis of cited authors and journals uncovers core intellectual foundations and interlinked knowledge domains. Bibliographic coupling of documents and co-occurrence of author keywords reveal thematic clusters that define the research focus, while thematic evolution and the thematic map highlight the transition from foundational studies to emerging topics such as social media analytics and influencer marketing. Trend topic analysis indicates growing emphasis on data-driven targeting, user engagement, and algorithmic influence modeling. ConclusionsThe study identifies research gaps in cross-cultural comparative studies, ethical considerations, and the integration of emerging technologies into viral marketing strategies, with practical implications for marketers seeking to optimize campaigns in a rapidly evolving digital environment.

A Decade of Local Culture Integration in Mathematics Learning: A Bibliometric Analysis of Scopus-Indexed Publications (2015-2024)

Research on the integration of local culture into mathematics learning has gained growing international attention because of its potential to promote contextual, meaningful, and culturally relevant learning, yet systematic mapping of its scholarly progress and thematic directions is still limited. This study aims to examine the development, research trends, and institutional collaborations in culture integrated mathematics education over the last decade. A bibliometric analysis of 129 Scopus indexed journal articles published between 2015 and 2024 was conducted using VOSviewer 1.6.20 to visualize publication patterns, keyword cooccurrence structures, and collaboration networks. The results show a substantial increase in publications, particularly after 2018, with the highest output recorded in 2024. Thematic mapping identified three dominant clusters: culturally responsive pedagogical strategies, reinforcement of mathematical understanding through indigenous and local knowledge systems, and digital innovations such as augmented reality and STEM based tools supporting cultural preservation and learning. Indonesia emerged as the most prolific contributor, followed by the United States and the United Kingdom, indicating strong regional research engagement supported by international collaboration. Overall, the findings demonstrate the growing significance of culturally grounded mathematics education and provide an empirical foundation for future studies, the development of culturally responsive curricula, and policy formulation aligned with inclusive and multicultural educational practices.

Leadership development has attracted growing scholarly attention in response to rapid technological change, sustainability challenges, and evolving workforce dynamics; however, the expanding body of literature remains fragmented across disciplines and perspectives. This study aims to map the global research landscape of leadership development through a bibliometric analysis of publications indexed in the Scopus database, using VOSviewer to examine publication trends, keyword co-occurrence, citation patterns, and collaboration networks among authors, institutions, and countries. The results show that leadership constitutes the central intellectual core of the field, closely linked to organizational management, interpersonal communication, decision making, education, and professional development, while more recent research increasingly emphasizes themes such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, innovation, and visionary leadership. The analysis also reveals a highly collaborative and internationally connected research community, with strong contributions from North America and Europe and growing cross-regional partnerships. Overall, this study provides a systematic overview of the intellectual structure and evolutionary trajectory of leadership development research, offering a useful reference for scholars and practitioners in identifying dominant themes and emerging directions for shaping future leaders⁠.

The Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) remains one of the most widely applied stated preference techniques for assessing the economic value of non-market environmental goods and services, particularly in conservation research. However, a systematic understanding of how this field has evolved regarding research productivity, intellectual structure, and thematic direction remains limited. This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of CVM-related publications in conservation between 2000 and 2024, using data retrieved from the Scopus database. VOSviewer and Scopus Analyzer were employed to examine leading authors, publication trends, document types, influential journals, keyword co-occurrence, and citation networks by source type. The results reveal a steady increase in publication output, with notable growth after 2016 and a peak in 2020, reflecting CVM's growing methodological maturity and policy relevance. China, the United States, and Malaysia emerged as major contributors, alongside expanding participation from developing regions. Highly cited works by Loomis, Carson, Hanley, and Hanemann continue to shape the theoretical foundation of CVM, whilst emerging themes highlight applications in ecosystem service valuation, climate change, marine conservation, and sustainable tourism. Ecological Economics was identified as the most influential journal, with growing contributions from interdisciplinary outlets such as Sustainability and the Journal of Environmental Management. Despite these advances, Western dominance and limited synthesis studies indicate a need for greater geographic and conceptual inclusivity. Overall, CVM has evolved into an integrative framework linking ecological, social, and economic dimensions of conservation, with future research encouraged to enhance methodological innovation and cross-regional collaboration.

The interaction between globalization and consumer behavior has been a central focus of both academic and industry research for decades. This study delineates the conceptual structure, trends, topics, and major themes in globalization and consumer behavior research from 2006 to 2024 using bibliometric analysis. The data analyzed using Biblioshiny software under the R programming. The study analyzed 3,143 documents obtained from the Web of Science and Scopus databases, focusing on productivity by authors, institutions, and countries, co-citation, keyword co-occurrence, and thematic clustering. The findings indicate that the most pertinent source was “Environmental Science Pollution Research,” and Adebayo T was identified as the most prominent author, having contributions of 57 publications. The most significant institution was the Cyprus International University, that accounted for 66 publications. China emerged as the leading contributor by producing 1,904 publications. The thematic clusters showed increasing interest in sustainability, policy-oriented research, renewable energy, and digital consumer identities. This study synthesizes 18 years of literatures and offers a roadmap for future research on globalization, technology, and consumer culture.

Bibliometric and visual analysis of global research on endocrine-disrupting chemicals and children’s health: evidence, emerging concerns, and research gaps

ABSTRACT Background Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are environmental pollutants that interfere with hormonal systems and may pose serious risks to children’s health during critical developmental stages. Despite many studies, a comprehensive overview of global research trends is still lacking. Objective This study aimed to provide a comprehensive bibliometric and visual analysis of global research trends on EDCs and pediatric health over the past two decades. Methods Relevant publications from 1 January 2005 to 4 June 2025 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Microsoft Excel, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the R package ‘bibliometrix’ were used to analyze publication trends, influential countries, institutions, authorship, journal distribution, keyword co-occurrence, and emerging research topics. Results A total of 3,241 publications from 95 countries and regions were identified. The United States led with 38.29% of publications and the highest citation frequency. Among the top 10 productive authors, seven were based in the US. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was the most prolific institution. Environmental Research published the largest number of articles (199, 6.14%). Major research hotspots included autism spectrum disorder, precocious puberty, child behavior, postnatal exposure, and human exposure. The most frequent keywords were ‘endocrine-disrupting chemicals,’ ‘bisphenol A,’ and ‘exposure.’ Conclusions This study provides the first systematic bibliometric overview of global research on EDCs and children’s health. The results highlight increasing academic attention and identify key contributors and emerging themes, offering guidance for future research and policy development in pediatric environmental health.

Global Research Trends in Breast Cancer Gene Expression: A Bibliometric Study of 2020–2024 Publications

Purpose: This study aimed to identify and analyze articles published between 2020 and 2024 that addressed “breast cancer” and “gene expression” by examining publication trends, citation patterns, prominent journals, contributing countries, and evolving research topics within the field. Methods: A bibliometric analysis was conducted on articles related to “breast cancer” and “gene expression” that were published between 2020 and 2024 and indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection database. The analysis included metrics such as the most cited articles, citation frequency, publication trends over time, countries with the highest publications and citations, leading authors, co-occurrence of author keywords, and the most frequently cited sources. Results: A total of 5,095 articles were identified. The highest number of publications was recorded in 2020, followed by a gradual decline toward 2024. A substantial portion of the publications originated from China and the United States of America. Most articles were published in high-impact journals and received a high number of citations. The research predominantly focused on gene expression in the context of treatment strategies and pathogenic mechanisms in breast cancer. Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis demonstrated an active and evolving research landscape in the field of breast cancer and gene expression from 2020 to 2024. The findings underscore the emphasis on elucidating pathophysiological mechanisms and investigating therapeutic approaches. These results offer valuable insights for guiding future research directions.

Risk management is often viewed as a key strategy to prevent corporate bankruptcy, yet the research landscape remains fragmented. This study maps the development of research on risk management and corporate financial distress using bibliometric analysis. Scopus records containing “Risk Management” and “Distress” from 2010–2025 were retrieved, yielding 106 documents, and analyzed with VOSviewer. The United States leads publication output (16 documents), followed by the United Kingdom (14). Tran, N.M. is the most prolific author (3 publications), while the University of Zilina is the most productive affiliation (4 articles). Keyword co-occurrence clustering reveals six themes: financial instruments for risk mitigation; bankruptcy determinants; risk management implementation; corporate governance; banking-sector contexts; and external factors (e.g., pandemics, religion). The results highlight the multidimensional links between risk management and distress and suggest opportunities for integrative research. This mapping also offers practical insight for firms to strengthen risk management as an early-warning and prevention mechanism against bankruptcy.

Abstract Career guidance is a process that helps people discover and develop their interests, values, abilities and goals, and assists them in making decisions about their future studies, employment and other pursuits. Higher education aims to cultivate talent for society and furnish a strong workforce to facilitate societal advancement. The research on the application of career guidance in higher education is becoming more and more extensive and in-depth. The method of this study is bibliometric review by searching for the keywords “TS = career guidance AND (TS = higher education OR TS = education OR TS = curriculum)” in the SSCI database of the Web of Science and following the guideline of PRISMA to select the published articles ( N = 233) during the period 1970–2024 to visualize and analyze using the Citespace (version 6.4.R1) to perform the results. The visualization analysis of this study is through keyword co-occurrence analysis, keyword timeline clustering analysis and burst detection analysis to identify the research hotspots and trends of career guidance in higher education, and to predict the possible future research directions.

This study examines the intellectual structure, thematic evolution, and global research trends in tourism marketing and its contribution to business growth through a bibliometric approach. Using publications indexed in the Scopus database from 2000 to 2025, the study applies bibliometric and network analysis techniques supported by VOSviewer to map keyword co-occurrence, co-authorship patterns, citation structures, and country-level collaborations. The findings reveal that tourism marketing research is strongly anchored in themes such as digital marketing, customer satisfaction, sustainability, and business performance, reflecting the sector’s transformation in response to technological advancement and changing consumer behavior. Emerging topics, including social media marketing, artificial intelligence, and sustainable tourism practices, indicate a growing shift toward data-driven and experience-oriented marketing strategies. The analysis also highlights the dominance of collaborative research networks involving developed and emerging economies, underscoring the global nature of tourism marketing knowledge production. By synthesizing fragmented literature into a coherent knowledge map, this study contributes theoretically by clarifying the evolution and convergence of tourism marketing themes, and practically by providing insights for tourism businesses and policymakers to design evidence-based marketing strategies that support sustainable business growth.

This study aims to map and synthesize the intellectual structure, thematic evolution, and collaboration patterns in short-form video marketing research through a bibliometric analysis. Using data retrieved from the Scopus database covering publications from 2010 to 2025, this study applies bibliometric and network visualization techniques with the aid of VOSviewer. The analysis examines keyword co-occurrence, citation impact, co-authorship networks, institutional affiliations, and country-level collaborations to identify dominant research themes and emerging trends. The results reveal that short-form video marketing research is strongly centered on social media platforms—particularly TikTok and Douyin—with a growing emphasis on consumer behavior, purchase intention, and digital engagement. Recent studies increasingly focus on platform-specific strategies, advertising embedding, and the role of short-form videos in sectors such as tourism and education. China emerges as the most influential country in terms of research collaboration, while several regional clusters of authors and institutions indicate concentrated but fragmented scholarly networks. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the development of short-form video marketing literature, offering theoretical insights and practical guidance for researchers and practitioners, while highlighting avenues for future research in this rapidly evolving digital marketing domain.

This study conducted a bibliometric analysis and topic modeling of 50 academic papers published between 1997 and 2025 on the representation of older adults in Korean commercial advertising. The purpose of the research was to systematically identify the intellectual structure and developmental trajectory of studies on elderly representation in advertising and to propose future research directions. Using bibliographic analysis, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling, and keyword co-occurrence network analysis, the study revealed that Korean research on elderly advertising has evolved through three distinct phases: the Market Exploration Period (1997–2009), the Representation Analysis Period (2010–2019), and the Diversification and Expansion Period (2020–2025). Seven major topics were extracted: advertising representation (18.2%), marketing strategy (16.4%), consumer behavior (15.8%), brand communication (14.6%), active seniors (13.2%), digital marketing (11.5%), and social perception (10.3%). Temporal analysis indicated a paradigm shift from early-stage studies focusing on advertising representation and social perception to recent studies emphasizing active seniors and digital marketing. This study systematically maps the intellectual landscape of elderly representation research in Korean advertising and suggests future directions including digital platform representations, intergenerational perception gaps, and cross-cultural comparative studies. The findings provide valuable implications for developing age-inclusive marketing strategies and addressing ageism in an aging society.

This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of scholarly research examining the relationship between the Internet of Things (IoT) and competitive advantage within the context of digital business strategy. Drawing on publications indexed in the Scopus database from 2010 to 2025, the study applies bibliometric techniques using VOSviewer to map the intellectual structure, thematic evolution, and collaboration patterns in this rapidly growing research domain. The analysis includes keyword co-occurrence, co-citation, co-authorship, and country-level collaboration networks to identify dominant research themes, influential contributions, and emerging trends. The findings reveal that digital transformation, competition, and business strategy constitute the core conceptual anchors of IoT-related research, indicating that IoT is increasingly framed as a strategic capability rather than a purely technological tool. Enabling technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing, and blockchain are shown to play a critical role in reinforcing IoT-driven competitive advantage. In addition, emerging themes related to sustainability and cybersecurity highlight a shift toward more holistic and responsible digital business strategies. This study contributes to the literature by synthesizing fragmented research streams and offering a structured overview of how IoT supports strategic value creation. The results provide valuable insights for academics and practitioners seeking to understand the strategic implications of IoT adoption in an increasingly digital and competitive business environment.⁠

Climate change poses significant challenges to agricultural productivity and global food security, particularly in regions highly dependent on climate-sensitive farming systems. Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) has emerged as an integrated approach aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, strengthening resilience to climate variability, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Despite the rapid growth of CSA-related studies, a comprehensive understanding of the global research landscape, thematic evolution, and collaboration patterns remains limited. This study aims to map and analyze the scientific development of CSA and food security research through a bibliometric approach. Using publication data indexed in the Scopus database, this study applies network and visualization analysis with VOSviewer to examine keyword co-occurrence, citation structures, co-authorship networks, and geographical research distribution. The findings reveal that research on CSA and food security has expanded significantly, with dominant themes focusing on climate change adaptation and mitigation, smallholder farming systems, crop resilience, sustainable land management, and technology adoption. The results also highlight strong international collaboration networks, particularly among countries in Asia, Europe, and Africa, reflecting the global relevance of CSA in addressing food security challenges. This study contributes to the literature by providing a systematic overview of research trends, influential works, and emerging themes, offering valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in designing evidence-based strategies for sustainable agriculture and food security under climate change.
