Facts and Comparisons: Journal Updates and Performance Indicators

In January 2006, the CJHP Editorial Board, as well as members of CSHP Council and staff, selected individuals from the Society’s general membership (including students), and representatives of both the CSHP Research and Education Foundation and the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy participated in a day-long strategic businessplanning session for the CJHP. In conjunction with an environmental scan, for which we received input from other stakeholders, this planning session culminated in a 6-year strategic business plan with the purpose of serving as both a compass and a road map for the Journal. Four years later, in January 2010, the CJHP Editorial Board held another strategic planning meeting with the CSHP Executive and staff members to review progress and discuss a long-term vision for the Journal.

RSS Feeds for PDAs

This article examines RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and discusses the use of RSS readers on PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) and mobile phones. Eight PDA-compatible RSS readers are examined. Recommendations for finding RSS content via medical RSS directories and search services and subscribing to feeds and journal updates are discussed.

AMA's `Medicine Today' TV Program

The American Medical Association's (AMA) national television series for physicians, Medicine Today, premiered on Jan 6, 1985. This broadcast was part of the launch of Lifetime Medical Television's Doctors' Sunday, a mini-network providing a full day of programs for physicians each week on the Lifetime cable television network. Medicine Today is a half-hour program of medical news and commentary that can be seen each week as a part of Physicians' Journal Update, a review of the medical literature. Medicine Today represents an important step by physicians in using the immediacy and power of television to advance the practice of medicine in this country. It provides rapid and personal communication between physicians; it establishes a collegial forum, devoted to issues and information that affect physicians; and it improves the dissemination of information about advances in medical research to the profession.
