A STUDY OF LIGHT HIERARCHY IMPACTS IN MOSQUES: A CASE STUDY OF MASJID WAZIR KHAN, LAHORE

Light has always been an icon of magnificent and mystical interplay with architectural spaces. Our built monopoly utilizes natural Light in such a manner that specifies meaningful experience to the spatial design. Light is a supreme element in Islamic architecture that symbolizes supremacy and knowledge, forcing humans to relate to spiritual experience just by being in sacred spaces. The built environment, however, should indicate this worldly Light as depicting paradise, a believable phenomenon even mentioned in our religious manuscripts. Usually, the focus was on the design elements of spatial planning of these built structures, yet other modifying design elements are used better to attain ecstasy and Light is one of them. Almost every religious building in the world has some wonders and depiction that makes them beautiful and recognizable across the globe. Hence Pakistan also has many beautiful buildings with glorious Islamic backgrounds focusing on Light. The Mosque, a perfect symbol of Islamic architecture, has a beautiful play of Light inside that reminds of the holy verses. This study focuses on the play of lights used in mosques as the best manifestation of Islamic architecture based on investigations through descriptive and explorative data for analyses. The study was carried out through a case study of the Wazir Khan Mosque, which is beautifully articulated with hierarchical lighting used to enhance Light's impacts for exploring the lighted spaces. The research findings are that the light display in the various parts of the mosques is beautifully intricated in such a manner as not only those parts keep the Mosque well lit for the Devoutes like the central courtyard, Inner chamber that uses Light in a way that the identification of a place that leaves the user with sense holiness. Assessing Awareness Level of Halal Cosmetics among Muslim Males in Malaysia: An Empirical Study

In the Proceeding of International Conference on Education Research (InCER 2020), Ambo & Md Sapir (2020) presented four items that measure halal cosmetic awareness among Muslim males. Unfortunately, INCER 2020's audience thought that the categorisation of respondents based on their marital status did not translate to good results since only ten respondents represented married males in the study out of 86. This paper aims to respond to the feedback given by the INCER 2020's audience by re-analysing the level of halal cosmetic awareness of 86 Muslim males in Malaysia in terms of age, educational level, Islamic background, and marital status, and employing Chi-Square and Independence Sample T-Test. The findings showed that Muslim males with Islamic backgrounds obtain a high level of halal cosmetic awareness than their non-Islamic counterparts. The study findings indicate that presenting conceptual ideas at the Conference helped us receive constructive feedback to improve our research work

Domestic Tension: Representation of Muslim artist’s body in online performance

This article investigates the relevance between body representation in online performance and Islamic art by studying Domestic Tension, an online performance by Iraqi-born artist Wafaa Bilal. Bilal lives under online participant shoots, with a paintball gun, in a gallery and broadcasts the event 24/7 on the internet. Islam and its laws, related to the body, played a central role in this performance and remained out of sight. The Qur’an mentioned the body rarely in verses; therefore, the Hadith is the most trustworthy reference to learn. Based on Hadith, figural representation between Muslims is banned, and the makers of these pictures get punished in the other world. This prohibition must be the main reason for Muslim artists’ use of symbols and signs to represent figures. In the virtual space artworks, the artist kills his own body to represent the body as a basic image, codes and sings. By analysing Domestic Tension, I argue that the connection between Muslim artists’ perception of the body and the definition of semiotics body in online performance can be a reason for artists with an Islamic background to use the internet as a medium to express themselves.

Wolof and Mandinga Muslims in the early Atlantic World: African background, missionary disputes, and social expansion of Islam before the Fula jihads

ABSTRACT This paper explains the Islamic expansion in Greater Senegambia in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries from an Atlantic perspective. It discusses the spread of the Islamic faith in West Africa and its diasporic continuities in Portugal and the New Kingdom of Granada (present-day Colombia) based on African oral traditions, scholarship from Africa and the Americas, chronicles, letters, and reports by European missionaries, travelers, traders, bureaucrats, and Inquisitorial and canonical prosecutions. The Islamic concept of da’wa, I argue, enabled Islamic preachers to reach out to a wide range of Senegambians before the Muslim revolutions. This expansion can be seen in the diaspora, primarily Wolof, and in the restraints imposed by African Muslims on Christian missionaries in Africa and the Americas. The knowledge produced in qur’anic schools was essential to Islamic social expansion, the preservation of Islamic belief in the diaspora, and the political orchestration that led to the jihads.

PENANAMAN NILAI-NILAI PANCASILA DENGAN MEDIA KOMIK PANCASILA (KOPALA) DI PESANTREN YATIM CAHAYA MADINAH TANGERANG

Today is the understanding of the values ​​of Pancasila in the younger generation is getting eroded. Of course, it is hoped that this will not happen to young santri. With a solid Islamic background, santri find it easier to understand the values ​​of Pancasila and do not fall into a negative understanding of Pancasila. Therefore, this community service activity aims to provide a new understanding of the use of visual media in the form of the Pancasila Comic (abbreviated as KOPALA). In realizing this goal, the methods used are lectures and evaluation using games by utilizing devices that can display comic visuals. At the same time, the participants who were included in this activity were the santri, who were also students at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah and Madrasah Tsanawiyah benches, totalling 17 santri. They are santri of Pesantren Yatim Cahaya Madinah in South Tangerang. In general, the implementation of the activities was successful although with some shortcomings, such as facilities. Furthermore, it is necessary to apply the same action to adolescents at the Madrasah Aliyah level and training for teachers in literacy, software and hardware, gadgets, and classroom management

KONSTRUKSI REALITAS PEMBUBARAN FRONT PEMBELA ISLAM DAN DEMOKRASI

This study aims to know the direction of democracy and know the framing of news in Republika.com and Kompas.com, as well as the implications of the dissolution of FPI to development communication. The uniqueness of this research, FPI is a mass organization with a large number of masses but does not have an organizational license. This study uses the paradigm of constructionism, which considers the reality of social life is not a natural reality. Using the Robert N. Entman method to frame news stories coming from Republika.com and Kompas.com. The difference in framing in Kompas.com media and Republika.com is the news source. Republika.com choose a news source from an Islamic background, while Kompas.com choose a news source who is competent in his field is not based on his religion. In the first framing analysis, the level of problem identification and causal interpretation, the two online media have similarities. However, in terms of moral evaluation and treatment recommendation both media have differences. In Republika.com researchers analyzed treatment recommendations is the rejection of FPI activities. FPI has no legal standing. Kompas.com, his treatment recommendation consideration of the dissolution of FPI is to maintain the existence of ideology and basic consensus of the state of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Being active Muslim audiences: reception of Thai films in Indonesia

Most studies on media in Indonesia have tended to support the concept of passive audiences. This article aims to explain the reception of young Muslims in Thai films. Thai films are consumed by young Indonesian Muslims recently. The research question proposed is how these Muslim audiences respond and interpret messages and representations of Thai films and the extent to which their Islamic background affects this reception. This article employs interviews and observations to gather data. This study finds that the consumption of young Indonesian Muslims in Thai films supports the concept of active audiences because audiences can select those products based on their interest. These more active audiences use laptops or mobile phones to watch Thai films they like. Furthermore, Indonesian youth do not passively receive all representations of Thai films. This study recommends two points. First, in this global era, the restrictions of consumption on foreign cultural products, both from religious and state authority, are unnecessary. This is because audiences can select and negotiate representations of cultural products. Second, television stations need to provide a new medium in which audiences can actively choose television programs based on their own schedule, not a fixed schedule decided by the television producer.

Implementation of the Policy of the Head of the Education Office in Increasing Understanding of the Islamic Scriptures at State Elementary Schools in South Labuhanbatu Regency, Indonesia

This research aims to analyze several things, namely: 1) analyze pthe policy procedure of the Head of the Education Office in increasing understanding of the Islamic Scriptures in the State Elementary School of South Labuhanbatu Regency. Then 2) analyze the implementation of the policy of the Head of the Education Office in increasing understanding of the Islamic holy book at the State Elementary School of South Labuhanbatu Regency. Furthermore, 3) analyzing the performance of the Head of the Education Office in increasing understanding of the Islamic holy book at the State Elementary School of South Labuhanbatu Regency.This research is qualitative. The process of extracting data holistically, either by means of in-depth interviews with a series of questions, observations in the form of observations, and collection of documents with the aim of obtaining correct and valid data.There are 3 (three) findings that became the result of this research, namely: 1) The procedure for formulating the policy of the Head of the Education Office in increasing understanding of the Islamic holy book, which is in accordance with PP. 55 of 2007 and Regional Regulation Number 10 of 2015 concerning Improved Understanding of the Holy Book of Islam in South Labuhanbatu for regional efforts through religious education in order to encourage local governments through religious education to create people who have noble character, have noble character, have basic knowledge and skills religious basis. 2) Implementation of the policy of the Head of the Education Office in increasing understanding of the Islamic holy book at the State Elementary School of South Labuhanbatu Regency starting in May 2018 by coordinating, monitoring and evaluating teachers. Al-Qur'an literacy educators consist of teachers who are graduates of Islamic Religious Education and those who are not from an Islamic education background with a record of being able to provide lessons to students and have a pesantren background with the approval of the Ministry of Religion office of South Labuanbatu Regency. Teachers who teach must comply with the syllabus provided by the Education Office of South Labuhanbatu Regency. 3) The Performance of the Head of the Education Office in Increasing Understanding of the Islamic Scriptures at the State Elementary School of South Labuhanbatu Regency by controlling the performance of educators in increasing understanding of the holy book and together with the respective school principals to supervise educators in improving the holy book of the Qur'an in South Labuhanbatu. Every month, educators receive an honorarium of Rp. 1,500,000 from the South Labuhanbatu Regency government and are given training every six months and all honorary teachers use the syllabus provided by the South Labuhanbatu Regency Education Office.

We shared what we found related to existential psychotherapy using cognitive behavior therapy for depressed Muslim clients in supporting the current call for integrating Islamic teachings and practice. Mainly, being intersubjective is very crucial for therapists’ competency because Muslim clients are from diverse Islamic backgrounds.

The diagnosis becomes complicatedbecause western health professionals are not usually familiar with thisform of symptom presentation.ObjectivesThe objective of this work is to study the influence of Arab culture and Muslim religion on the psychopathological symptoms presented duringa psychotic episode.MethodsWe present two cases of psychosis in two brothers of Maghreb originwho were treated for the first psychotic episode in the acute psychiatricunit in a Spanish regional hospital. Then, we carried out a litle researchfrom the literatura.ResultsThe common psychopathological symptoms presented by two brothersof 26 and 27 years were: symptoms of thought, control and influence of the self. Delusional ideas of self-referential harm and persecution. Auditory and cenesthetic hallucinations. In the literature we find that patients with Islamic backgrounds whosuffer hallucinations can attribute these experiences to different beliefssuch as geniuses (jinn), black magic and the evil eye. One of the siblings was diagnosed with a psychotic episode withoutspecification, while the other brother got the schizophrenia label. Webelieve that this may be related to the fact that mental healthprofessionals generally tend to label fantastic stories as mind-blowingor delusional in nature.Conclusions1. Religious beliefs and fantastic tales of Muslim culture can be considered psychotic symptoms if healthcare professionals are notfamiliar with this culture. 2. Teamwork between mental health professionals, translators and religious counselors can improve care for Muslim patients.

Halal Cosmetic Literacy among Malaysian Muslim Undergraduates Based on OECD’s Financial Literacy Framewor

This research involves an element of OECD’s Financial Literacy Framework, insofar as the framework has not previously been adapted in halal cosmetic context. This thus requires a philosophy of Positivism that enables the framework to be empirically operationa lised by using an online survey. The aim was to examine the level of literacy for halal cosmetic among Malaysian Muslim students through psychographic variables and to conduct comparisons between gender, age, faculty, Islamic backgrounds, as well as educational sponsorship to elicit differences in halal cosmetic literacy level between Islamic and non-Islamic undergraduates. The findings show the active usage of cosmetics, and their ability to access the relevant cosmetic information increases the level of halal cosmetic literacy among non-Islamic undergraduates. In contrast, the lack of cosmetic usage due to a shortage of money and, waiting for cosmetic providers to assure about halal status in cosmetic products are seemed to influencing Islamic students’ slow progress in acquiring halal cosmetic literacy. As a consequence, Islamic students obtain a lower level of halal cosmetic literacy than nonIslamic students. It is expected that this study may assist cosmetic providers to understand their cosmetic consumers based on Islamic backgrounds because it influences the way they acquire halal cosmetic literacy. The findings of the study indicate that OECD’s financial literacy framework could also be adapted in the study of cosmetic literacy.

Maintaining Tradition to Establish Cohesion

Cultural heterogeneity and plurality of religions which grow, develop and survive in Lombok make this island such a pluralistic and multicultural miniature of Indonesia. This entity can be potentially integrative as a knit of social cohesiveness. However, in certain conditions and atmosphere, this diversity and culture can arise the emergence of conflict, violence and disaster if it is not managed properly. Muslims Sasak and Hindus Balineseethnic as the two largest communities in Lombok, often meet in space and stage conflict. The main factors are culture, economy, sectarianism, exclusivism, primordialism and multiculturalism education are still low.Despite repeated conflicts, it does not mean the social interaction of these two communities is not tolerated. Despite the conflicts that are always episodes, these two communities have local wisdom in the form of a religious festival of the perang topat tradition. This discourse is intended to describe the historical background of Islam and Hinduism in Lombok, analyze the causes of social conflict between the Muslim Sasak community and Hinduism Balinese ethnic in Lombok, as well as explore the local wisdom of the perang topat tradition as multicultural education base that can be made as a seeding of social cohesiveness.

Between the Secular and the Islamic: An Arab American Woman’s Journey to Negotiate Feminist Identity in Mohja Kahf’s The Girl in the Tangerine Scarf

The hybrid belonging of Arab American women, particularly Muslims, makes their feminism a complex notion. Being in the USA gives Arab American female authors the opportunity, through various literary genres such as poetry, fiction, and memoirs, to express themselves and voice their concerns for Arab women in their homeland and/or country of residence – this is due to the necessity of collaboration to resist the gender stereotypes inflicted on Arab and Muslim women in the USA and religious and social structures in the Arab world that directly or indirectly oppress and confine them. Islamic and secular feminisms, excluding other forms of feminism such as transnational and postcolonial, are the most prominent feminist paradigms embraced by Arab women in their motherlands and host-lands to negotiate their rights and express their concerns. Taking The Girl in the Tangerine Scarf (2006) as a sample of Arab American fiction produced by Mohja Kahf, an Arab American female author whose identity entails Islamic background, this paper examines the process of negotiation that Khadra Shamy, an Arab American female protagonist, goes through to negotiate her feminist identity in both realms i.e. Mecca and Indianapolis. Stemming from Islamic and secular feminist paradigms based on perspectives of prominent feminist critics such as Margot Badran and Fatima Mernissi, I argue that Khadra, as a female diasporic figure, embraces a hybrid feminism to better understand her gender identity and effectively negotiate and claim her rights.

The phenomenon of religious people and freedom to choose religion as a belief in life becomes freedom that cannot be bargained. The series of past history reminds religious people that the Presence of Religion is on the most principle principle, in order to be a solution in various aspects of human life, apart from the dark history of Religion which is ridden by the interests of power and vice versa on the power of Religion. Furthermore, the context of the past is a compass of the future of Religion which is burdened by every follower of Religion. The presence of Christianity as a Missionary religion and Islam as a Da'wah religion opened a space for religious social dialogue, because both were involved in Agamanization. Furthermore, the two characteristics possessed by each religion will certainly ignite the enthusiasm of Christian evangelists and preachers on the part of Islam to compete in assuming the truth of the perspective. The presence of this article will open a space for scientific dialogue to the two communities, in exposing the views and assumptions of Reverend Murtadin Saifudin Ibrahim who has an Islamic background and assumes that he is one of the Islamic leaders who then turned to become a Christian priest. Furthermore this article is not an Interference to Saifudin Ibrahim's new beliefs, but this article is to answer Saifudin Ibrahim's assumptions and views on Islam as the largest religion among religious people in Indonesia. In the end, hopefully this article can answer various obscure views and thoughts, and thoughts that intercept the faith in Islam in Indonesia.

Individual choice of management research agendas

Purpose The main research attempts guiding questions about management research agendas had been relevance questions versus rigor questions. Researchers have also attempted to set management research agendas in particular sectors. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no research, however, has addressed the infrastructural and foundational questions of what moral priorities and ethical principles should guide the future development of management research. Because the Islamic theological approach is a “transcendental values integration” approach, it presents a potentially viable source of reference particularly for scholars interested in ethical philosophical paradigmatic approaches. Islamic literature has presented guiding principles as to how to balance priorities through the Jurisprudence of Priorities (Fiqh Al-Awlawiyyat). The purpose of this exploratory conceptual paper is to synchronize the Islamic background literature on the jurisprudence of priorities with management research development and agendas. The research is exploratory in nature. Design/methodology/approach The paper is conceptual, merging Islamic literature with management research for the development of a framework to potentially guide management researchers in prioritizing their research agendas. Findings The research resulted in the conceptualization of a framework aiding researchers in the prioritization of their research agendas. Research limitations/implications The research has implications for management scholars who are interested to prioritize their research projects and agendas. The research presents a schematic diagram and guiding framework through which scholars can reflect on their choice of research topics. Practical implications The research is also relevant to funding agencies as they devise the funding priorities in the management field. Originality/value This paper addresses the unique and foundational question of what moral priorities and ethical principles should guide the future development of management research. The authors build on a religious-philosophical approach, drawing on the Islamic jurisprudence of priorities as a literature base. The authors, therefore, address the key principles of responsible research regarding how it can be relevant on the infrastructural level to society and how the benefit to key stakeholders should be tackled. To the authors’ knowledge, this was not done in previous literature.

African Prose Fiction and the Depiction of Corruption in Islamic Society and Religion: A Critical Study of Abubakar Gimba’s Witnesses to Tears and Sacred Apples

African prose fictions have written on a whole number of ideas and perception, but have conspicuously paid little or no attention to what is predominant in the Islamic society and religious world. For Gimba, the intrigues and contestation over power, especially within the civil service, assume a metaphoric significance in unraveling social contradictions in society. Gimba thus, evaluates the various dimensions of power and how it is used to subjugate or oppress people. In most of his works, Gimba pillories the repressive nature of power and the conflicts it engenders are graphically illustrated. In his articulation of this disabling environment, Gimba evokes a consciousness, concerned with Manichaeism and alienation. Gimba is sensitive to his characters as they adjust to the uncertainties of a postcolonial society with all the indices of underdevelopment, greed, corruption, bureaucratic tardiness, indiscipline, political instability etc. These characteristics of modern Nigeria form the background from which Gimba’s characters are drawn. However, drawing from their Islamic background, the characters in Gimba’s works express their morality, conviction and thought through the ideals of the religion. This leads to a remarkable blending of social and moral concerns with the supervening influence of Islam without sermonization. The outcome of this fusion is a balance between aesthetics and spiritual interests in a way that captures the essence of Northern Nigeria with vividness and freshness. Gimba, like Tahir, therefore relates the traditional and cultural values of the people to their response to the dilemma of new experiences and their interpretations of them. Gimba draws his sources from The Holy Qur’an in the delineation of setting, action and character. As a liberal feminist, he chooses urban heroines through whom he restructures our visions. This article attempts to investigate Gimba’s works using Neo-humanistic theory in evaluating his inclusion of religion and the techniques used conspicuously in the novels, Witnesses to Tears and Sacred Apples. This scholarly work equally argues that the writer’s creativity in religion can best be appreciated through an analytical study of the novel.

Islamic Perspective on Syaifudin Ibrahim’s Priester (Analysis Of The Views, Assumptions And Challenges Of The Reverend Syaifuddin Ibrahim Against Muslims)

The phenomenon of religious people and freedom to choose religion as a belief in life becomes freedom that cannot be bargained. The series of past history reminds religious people that the Presence of Religion is on the most principle principle, in order to be a solution in various aspects of human life, apart from the dark history of Religion which is ridden by the interests of power and vice versa on the power of Religion. Furthermore, the context of the past is a compass of the future of Religion which is burdened by every follower of Religion. The presence of Christianity as a Missionary religion and Islam as a Da'wah religion opened a space for religious social dialogue, because both were involved in Agamanization. Furthermore, the two characteristics possessed by each religion will certainly ignite the enthusiasm of Christian evangelists and preachers on the part of Islam to compete in assuming the truth of the perspective. The presence of this article will open a space for scientific dialogue to the two communities, in exposing the views and assumptions of Reverend Murtadin Saifudin Ibrahim who has an Islamic background and assumes that he is one of the Islamic leaders who then turned to become a Christian priest. Furthermore this article is not an Interference to Saifudin Ibrahim's new beliefs, but this article is to answer Saifudin Ibrahim's assumptions and views on Islam as the largest religion among religious people in Indonesia. In the end, hopefully this article can answer various obscure views and thoughts, and thoughts that intercept the faith in Islam in Indonesia.
