Professionalism and Trustworthiness in AI-Assisted Workplace Writing: The Benefits and Drawbacks of Writing With AI

This study explores perceptions of managers who use AI-assisted writing for workplace communication tasks. Prior scholarship has established the professionalism of the text of AI-generated workplace writing, but perceptions of message senders who use AI have not previously been explored. To capture professionals’ perceptions of email authorship, a survey was conducted of 1,100 working professionals. In a two (directionality of communication) by four (levels of AI assistance) study, respondents were asked to evaluate the authorship of an AI-assisted message congratulating a team for meeting goals and setting new objectives. The results suggest that, despite positive impressions of professionalism in AI-assisted writing, managers who use AI for routine communication tasks put their trustworthiness at risk when using medium- to high-levels of AI assistance, as respondents in these conditions begin to question the authorship, confidence, caring, sincerity, and ability of senders. These results contribute to ongoing research into the effectiveness of AI-mediated interpersonal workplace communication by suggesting parameters for practical use and directions for future research.

The Impact of Digital Media on Voluntary and Non-Humanitarian Organizations

This study aimed to analyse the impact of digital media on volunteers' behaviour in non-profit organizations, explore the challenges they face due to reliance on it, and examine the relationship between transparency and accountability in these organizations and the use of digital media. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach using questionnaires distributed to a sample of 60 volunteers in Riyadh. The findings revealed that digital media significantly facilitates tracking organizational achievements and raising awareness about the importance of volunteering, with an overall approval rate of 88%. The results also indicated that digital media facilitates communication among volunteers and the exchange of experiences. However, challenges such as difficulty in distinguishing between credible and non-credible organizations and technical issues that may hinder effective participation were highlighted, with an approval rate of 72%. Regarding the relationship between transparency and accountability, the findings confirmed that digital media contributes to enhancing transparency by publishing periodic reports and providing opportunities for volunteers to interact and share their feedback, which boosts trust in the organization, with an approval rate of 80%. The study recommended the development of engaging digital media content to motivate volunteers, providing continuous training on the use of digital tools, and establishing clear policies to enhance transparency and accountability. These measures would contribute to achieving the goals of non-profit organizations more efficiently and effectively. Keywords: Digital Media, Volunteering, Non-Profit Organizations.

From Constricted Models to State-of-the-Art for Facial Expression Classification

Abstract Facial expressions are an important channel for interpersonal communication and comprehension since people externalize their emotions through a variety of facial expressions. Technology, in particular, deep learning algorithms, can detect and analyze human emotions in real-time, which paves the way for advanced user interfaces or adjustable devices and applications. Based on this, the work described in this paper presents a system that identifies three groups of emotions, positive, negative, and neutral, in three execution scenarios: in resource-limited devices, such as mobile phones, for desktop or web applications, and with a state-of-the-art model. To address this problem, three classifiers were used: MobileNetV3 Small, VGG-19, and FER-VT. The experimental results revealed that each model has distinct strengths and weaknesses, with MobileNetV3 Small being the most efficient for resource-constrained environments, VGG-19 achieving the highest accuracy across metrics while maintaining the ideal balance of performance and computational requirements, and FER-VT struggling with generalization issues. These findings emphasize the importance of choosing an appropriate model based on the specific application requirements, while balancing computational constraints and performance.

‘La société en miniature’: Queuing at Theatres and Railway Stations in Nineteenth-Century Paris

ABSTRACT In mid-nineteenth-century Paris, theatres and railway stations had become popular gathering places for urban crowds seeking leisure or transport. While the interiors were strictly segregated according to economic and social status, the mixed queues outside served as spaces of human contact and negotiation. I argue that queuing became an everyday spectacle that reflected the contemporary mass society. Architects and authorities imposed functional regulations on queues. The public developed a variety of habits of collective waiting. Artists depicted them in paintings, caricatures and panoramic literature. All three contributed to the queuing phenomenon by producing stereotypes related to class, gender, profession, and custom.

Exploratory Study on the Role of Digitalization in Improving the External Audit Quality in Public Institutions: Evidence from Morocco

This study aims to understand the relationship between digitalization and the quality of external audit in public institutions, especially in the context of a developing country like Morocco. The paper adopts a qualitative approach in the form of interviews with stakeholders such as auditors, researchers and finance specialists. Data analysis was performed using NVIVO version 15 software. The results of the study show that digitalization impacts audit quality, particularly through the competence of the auditor. Indeed, this revolution pushes the practitioners of the profession to rise in theoretical and practical competency and adopt new technological tools in order to derive the best benefit from them within the scope of their mission. In addition, the relationship between digitalization and auditing can have both benefits and disadvantages mainly linked to the risk of data confidentiality and loss of human contact with the audited entity. Based on these findings, recommendations were made to ensure that the use of technology is fully aligned with the auditor’s objectives and the customer’s aspiration. The main novelty of this study is the adoption of a qualitative analysis for studying the intersection of digitalization and external audit quality in the public sector, specifically in a developing country like Morocco where the research is limited. This study is timely given the increase in the adoption of technology tools both in the public sector and in the field of audit.

Determinants of patient satisfaction among outpatients with chronic illnesses in the region of medina, Saudi Arabia: a cross-sectionalstudy.

Patient satisfaction is important for chronic care quality; however limited evidence exists regarding satisfaction patterns and demographic predictors among outpatients with chronic illnesses in Saudi Arabia. This study investigated patient satisfaction levels and identified demographic factors affecting satisfaction in chronic care settings. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 397 outpatients with chronic illnesses attending healthcare facilities in Medina, Saudi Arabia (August-September 2024). The validated Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire Short Form (PSQ-18) was administered electronically in Arabic and English. Demographic predictors were analyzed using ordinal logistic regression with satisfaction tertiles. Doctor-patient interaction correlations were assessed using Spearman coefficients. Participants included 213 females (53.6%) and 184 males (46.4%), with median age 45years. Overall PSQ-18 satisfaction score was 64.4% of maximum possible. Age was the primary satisfaction predictor, with patients aged 45-60years showing 2.31 times higher odds of superior satisfaction compared to younger patients (18-30years, P-value = 0.010). Doctor-patient interaction measures showed strong correlations with overall satisfaction: physical comfort (ρ = 0.635), respect and empathy (ρ = 0.602), and comfort asking questions (ρ = 0.500, all P-value < 0.001). Gender and employment status showed no significant associations with satisfaction levels. Accessibility and convenience scored lowest (60% satisfaction), while interpersonal manner, communication, and financial aspects achieved highest scores (70% satisfaction). Age-appropriate care delivery and enhanced doctor-patient interactions represent the most promising targets for improving chronic care satisfaction. Healthcare systems should prioritize interpersonal care training and accessibility improvements to optimize patient experiences across all age groups.

Practical Strategies to Increase Teacher and Staff Job Satisfaction at “Yayasan Anak Global Indonesia, Jakarta”

Teacher job satisfaction is one of the factors that must be considered. If teachers feel satisfied with their work, an atmosphere of togetherness will be created; they will have the same responsibility, a good communication climate, and high work enthusiasm to achieve school goals optimally. Likewise, school staff have an essential role in supporting school teaching and learning activities. This study aimed to determine practical strategies for improving teacher and staff job satisfaction at the Yayasan Anak Global Indonesia, Jakarta. The instrument used was a questionnaire distributed to 32 teachers and staff through a saturated sample sampling technique. Using multiple linear regression analysis, all hypotheses were finally tested and proven. It was found that practical strategies to improve job satisfaction are to optimize the work environment, make the organizational culture positive, and improve interpersonal communication between teachers and staff. This study is limited to one school only, so it cannot be generalized to all schools. Further research is expected to expand the research area, not only in 1 school, and differentiate between teachers and staff because they have different roles

The Lived Experience of Pediatric Gene Therapy Clinical Trial in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: Exploring Perceptions of Parents and Professionals Using Social Representation Method.

In recent decades, medical and scientific advances have led to the development of new therapeutic approaches for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), including gene therapy (GT), which is currently being evaluated. Recruiting enough children in clinical trials remains a challenge, depending on parental decisions. Numerous studies have already been carried out to understand these decision-making factors. To date, no study in Europe has been conducted among the various stakeholders lived experience in a DMD GT trial. Our qualitative study explored participants' perceptions using a social representation method and compared them. We recruited 42 participants, divided into 2 groups comprising 21 parents and 21 professionals participating in GNT-014, a DMD natural history study. Each participant was interviewed on four questions about clinical trials, GT, and the facilitators and barriers of the clinical trial pathway. A prototypical and categorical analysis was carried out using "Pointe-au-Sel" software to analyze the data quantitatively. This method highlights which perceptions are shared within the same group and brings out the most important and most frequently evoked terms. We exported the data as a superimposed scatterplot of the representations of both groups for each question. We obtained a total of 453 evocations for the parents' group and a total of 611 evocations for the professionals' group. For clinical trial and GT, hope and scientific progress are common to the core of both groups but are not at the same level of representation. Parents evoked human contact as the main facilitator and what their child may undergo and become for barriers. For professionals, the facilitators and barriers are centered on the terms that can influence the proper conduct of the trial. These comparative results imply that the vision of the different stakeholders is not totally shared in trial participation. On the contrary, the term GT may also have an influence on professionals, including caregivers.

The Fatherless Phenomenon: Building Self-Concept With Interpersonal Communication

This study is motivated by Indonesia's ranking as the third most fatherless country in the world according to data from Narasi. The absence of a father in a child's life can shape their self-concept, particularly in girls, and interpersonal communication plays a crucial role in the process of social adjustment. This study aims to investigate how interpersonal communication between fathers and daughters occurs, to understand the self-concept of girls experiencing fatherlessness, and to identify the factors of interpersonal communication in shaping the self-concept of girls experiencing fatherlessness. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, employing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the self-concept of girls in fatherless conditions can be shaped by effective patterns of interpersonal communication. Daughters who lack effective interpersonal communication with their fathers tend to have negative selfconcepts, but this can be minimized through adequate social support, such as daughters who receive support from family, friends, or an environment that can help develop a more optimal self-concept, even if the father's role is not fully fulfilled.

The Effects of Virtual Social Touch on Interpersonal Communication Outcomes in Virtual Environments: A Meta-Analysis

This meta-analysis investigates the effects of virtual social touch (VST) on emotional, social, behavioral, and physiological outcomes in virtual environments. While physical interpersonal touch has been extensively linked to various social and affective benefits, the findings of this study reveal weak to moderate evidence for similar effects in virtual contexts, suggesting that existing theoretical models of social touch may not fully translate to mediated environments. The results indicate that VST may operate through distinct perceptual and behavioral mechanisms, emphasizing the need for theoretical refinements that account for technological affordances, interaction contexts, and the nature of virtual dyads (e.g., human-human, human-agent, human-robot).

An Investigation into the Concept of Interpersonal Communication: The Art of Establishing Personal Connection

Interpersonal communication is the sharing of information between two or more people. People interact with one another in this little social institution to develop morality, communicate, and share messages. They establish strong associations by meeting in person to talk about meanings and messages. Affinity and bonding are cultivated through spoken words, gestures, eye contact, accent, vocal and non-vocal signals, and touching. In today's world, men are reluctant to discuss their problems with others because of a number of issues that have arisen during this communication process, such as poorly conveyed messages, slow responses, and interactions that don't give people an opportunity to express their opinions in a way that makes engaging with others difficult. Two people are required for interpersonal communication. Without a dyad, a connection cannot exist. Interpersonal communication might therefore take place between a couple, a pair, or even adversaries. In order to determine the nature of the relationship, it is the responsibility of both individuals in a dyad to interpret the interaction. The relationship ends if one person leaves, at least for the time being or until they can get back together.

Breathable Nanorod-Embedded Hierarchical Photothermal Coatings with Anti-Soiling and Safe Thermal Regulation for Efficient Anti-Icing and De-Icing.

Photothermal hydrophobic surfaces offer a promising solution for mitigating ice hazards under low-temperature, high-humidity conditions via solar-driven de-icing. However, surface contamination can compromise photothermal efficiency, while fabric-applicable coatings must also provide flexibility, breathability, durability, and safe thermal regulation (≈50°C). Current systems require further optimization to balance these demands for practical use. Here, a nanorod-embedded photothermal strategy is presented that integrates superhydrophobicity, anti-icing, and de-icing capabilities with environmental robustness in fabrics. The composite comprises a polypyrrole-loaded cellulose nanocrystal inner layer for photothermal conversion and a fluoroalkyl silane-modified silica top layer for superhydrophobicity. The synergy between hierarchical micro-nano roughness and photothermal activation enables an "external repellency, internal heating" mechanism, effectively overcoming the limitations of passive coatings. This dual-functional architecture achieves a solar absorption rate of 97.2% and reaches 53.1°C under 100mWcm⁻2 irradiation, while remaining safe for human contact and maintaining breathability (moisture permeability: 6.86 × 103g·m⁻2·d⁻¹). It delays freezing by 417s at -15°C and reduces the melting time of an ice cube by 53.2% under 1-sun illumination. The fabric exhibits appreciable chemical stability, abrasion resistance, flexibility, and robustness under extreme conditions, ensuring long-term performance. This work offers a scalable solution for outdoor and personal protective equipment in cold environments.

Designing a critical digital literacies virtual exchange experience to engage and reinvent multimodal texts

This manuscript explores a 7-week, asynchronous, virtual exchange between American and Ukrainian education graduate students (n=58; 12 American Literacy PhD and Master’s students, 15 American TESOL Master's students, and 31 TEFL Master’s Ukrainian students). The critical digital literacies study aimed to understand how students could engage multimodal texts to interrogate cultural and political underpinnings of modes and media across five online modules. Working and communicating globally in heterogeneous groups in Google Classroom and/or WhatsApp, students documented their group interactions, which they submitted weekly. The exchange culminated in individual reinventions of multimodal texts, which is an essential tenet of criticality. Students’ reflective surveys and interviews suggest that critical media literacy projects may offer unique affordances in promoting global awareness and challenge established biases.

InInterpersonal Communication Between Young Couples In North Jakarta In Dealing With Financial Problems

This study aims to explain the form of interpersonal communication in the relationship of young couples facing financial problems, and its impact on household harmony. The main focus of this study is to understand the communication patterns formed between couples when they are faced with financial pressure in their household life. This study uses a qualitative approach with an in-depth interview method with four young couples living in North Jakarta who are experiencing financial problems. This study refers to the theory of interpersonal relationships and the concept of interpersonal communication that emphasizes openness, empathy, equality, and emotional support in establishing healthy relationships. In addition, this study also places communication in a relational context, where every interaction between husband and wife has an influence on the emotional dynamics and stability of the relationship. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results of the study indicate that communication that is carried out openly, supports each other, and is able to manage emotions positively has a great influence on maintaining household harmony even under economic pressure. Conversely, dominant or closed communication patterns actually increase the potential for conflict. Thus, healthy interpersonal communication is an important factor in building resilience in young couples' relationships amidst financial problems.
