Suppression of Gordon-haus effect and interaction of dark soliton by optical phase conjugation

The optical phase conjugation is put forward for the first time to suppress the Gordon-Haus effect caused by amplifier spontaneous emission noise, and soliton interaction in the dark soliton transmission system. The simulation results show : If the conjugator is sited at proper situation, it can suppress the Gordon-Haus effect or the dark soliton interaction effectively.

Interaction of dark solitons with a periodic wave in optical waveguides

The dynamics of dark optical solitons in waveguides under the action of the Raman effect and periodic parametrically pumping wave is developed. The existence of the trapping and passing regimes due to the interaction of dark solitons with a periodic wave is shown. The conditions of stationary propagation, amplification and damping are investigated also.

Lagrangian approach for dark solitons

We propose a variational formalism for dark solitons based on a nontrivial modification of the standard Lagrangian of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Our approach allows to consider a variety of asymptotically nonvanishing localised solutions for applying a variational technique together with the correct definition of momentum and energy. We demonstrate, on several particular examples, how this variational approach works, and we also point out its suitability for more general problems, e.g. those involving the analysis of the dark soliton interaction as well as the perturbation-induced dynamics of dark solitons and optical vortex solitons.
