From the Global North to the Global South: the contribution of equestrian sport and leisure to children’s informal learning

ABSTRACT The Global South has been largely excluded from equestrian sport and leisure debates. In particular, the equestrian experiences of children in developing countries have remained silent since most of the studies on equestrian sport and leisure have focused on the experiences of adults in the Global North. Despite the fact that equestrian sport and leisure are part of children’s practices in countries of the Global South, very little is known about the benefits of equestrian sport and leisure in early childhood education in developing countries. This research explores the contribution of equestrian sport and leisure to children's informal learning. From an ethnographic approach to children's equestrian practice in Mexico, the study reveals that equestrian sport and leisure contribute to developing socialization, teamwork, discipline, and interspecies communication skills in children. This paper contributes to incorporating countries from the Global South into the global debates on equestrian sport in general, and on children in sport and leisure in particular.

First evidence of sex-specific responses to chemical cues in tardigrade mate searching behaviour.

Chemical cues are widely used in intraspecific and interspecific communication, either as substances deposited in the substrate or as molecules diffused in water or air. In tardigrades, an emerging microscopic study system, chemical communication and its role in reproduction are poorly known. Here, we assessed sex differences in the detection of (a) short-range diffusing signals and (b) deposited cue trails during the mate-searching behaviour of freely moving virgin male and female Macrobiotus polonicus. We tracked individual behaviour (a) in simultaneous double-choice chambers, where live conspecifics of each sex were presented in water and (b) of freely moving pairs on agar without water. We found that males, but not females, preferentially associated with opposite-sex individuals in trials conducted in water. In contrast, neither sex detected nor followed cues deposited on agar. In conclusion, our study suggests that mate discrimination and approach are male-specific traits and are limited to waterborne chemical cues. These results support the existence of Darwinian sex roles in pre-mating behaviour in an animal group with virtually non-existing sex differences in morphology or ecology.

Evolution and distribution of rabies viruses from a panorama view.

Rabies kills more than 59,000 people annually, mainly in developing countries. Previous studies on the evolution and distribution of rabies viruses (RABVs) were scattered. Here, we explore the evolution and distribution of this deadly virus from a novel panorama view. Multiple bioinformatic software tools were employed to analyze the phylogenetic diversity, evolution, spatiotemporal, and distribution of RABVs. The analyses were based on 1,202 qualified full-length genomes of RABVs and numerous literatures. Of the 10 distinct phylogenetic clades of RABV that we identified, more frequent intra- and inter-clade recombination occurs in the sequences of Asian-SEA, Arctic, and Cosmopolitan clades isolated from China, while according to existing sequence information, RABV might originate from bats (posterior probability, PP = 0.75, PP = 0.60 inferred from N and L genes, separately) in North America (PP = 0.57, PP = 0.62 inferred from N and L genes, separately). Due to the difference in evolutionary rate of N (2.22 × 10-4 subs/site/year, 95% HPD 1.99-2.47 × 10-4 subs/site/year) and L genes (1.67 × 10-4 subs/site/year, 95% HPD 1.59-1.74 × 10-4 subs/site/year), the root age was 1,406.6 (95% HPD 1,291.2-1,518.2) and 1,122.7 (95% HPD 1,052.4-1,193.9) inferred from N and L genes, separately. Among other findings, Mephitidae plays an important role in the interspecific transmission and communication of RABV, which we found tends to spread to populations genetically proximate to the host. We also identified amino acids under positive selection in different genes of different clades as well as single nucleotide variation sites important for different lineages. IMPORTANCE Rabies virus is widely distributed all over the world, and wild animals are its largest potential reservoir. Our study offers a panorama view about evolution and distribution of rabies viruses and emphasizes the need to monitor the transmission dynamics of animal rabies.

Membrane-Vesicle-Mediated Interbacterial Communication Activates Silent Secondary Metabolite Production.

Most bacterial biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) are "silent BGCs" that are expressed poorly or not at all under normal culture conditions. However, silent BGCs, even in part, may be conditionally expressed in response to external stimuli in the original bacterial habitats. The growing knowledge of bacterial membrane vesicles (MVs) suggests that they could be promising imitators of the exogenous stimulants, especially given their functions as signaling mediators in bacterial cell-to-cell communication. Therefore, we envisioned that MVs added to bacterial cultures could activate diverse silent BGCs. Herein, we employed Burkholderia multivorans MVs, which induced silent metabolites in a wide range of bacteria in Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria phyla. A mechanistic analysis of MV-induced metabolite production in Xenorhabdus innexi suggested that the B. multivorans MVs activate silent metabolite production by inhibiting quorum sensing in X. innexi. In turn, the X. innexi MVs carrying some MV-induced peptides suppressed the growth of B. multivorans, highlighting the interspecies communication between B. multivorans and X. innexi through MV exchange.

Mechanisms Underlying the Formation and Evolution of Vertebrate Color Patterns.

Vertebrates exhibit a wide range of color patterns, which play critical roles in mediating intra- and interspecific communication. Because of their diversity and visual accessibility, color patterns offer a unique and fascinating window into the processes underlying biological organization. In this review, we focus on describing many of the general principles governing the formation and evolution of color patterns in different vertebrate groups. We characterize the types of patterns, review the molecular and developmental mechanisms by which they originate, and discuss their role in constraining or facilitating evolutionary change. Lastly, we outline outstanding questions in the field and discuss different approaches that can be used to address them. Overall, we provide a unifying conceptual framework among vertebrate systems that may guide research into naturally evolved mechanisms underlying color pattern formation and evolution.

What Is Written on a Dog's Face? Evaluating the Impact of Facial Phenotypes on Communication between Humans and Canines.

Facial phenotypes are significant in communication with conspecifics among social primates. Less is understood about the impact of such markers in heterospecific encounters. Through behavioral and physical phenotype analyses of domesticated dogs living in human households, this study aims to evaluate the potential impact of superficial facial markings on dogs' production of human-directed facial expressions. That is, this study explores how facial markings, such as eyebrows, patches, and widow's peaks, are related to expressivity toward humans. We used the Dog Facial Action Coding System (DogFACS) as an objective measure of expressivity, and we developed an original schematic for a standardized coding of facial patterns and coloration on a sample of more than 100 male and female dogs (N = 103), aged from 6 months to 12 years, representing eight breed groups. The present study found a statistically significant, though weak, correlation between expression rate and facial complexity, with dogs with plainer faces tending to be more expressive (r = -0.326, p ≤ 0.001). Interestingly, for adult dogs, human companions characterized dogs' rates of facial expressivity with more accuracy for dogs with plainer faces. Especially relevant to interspecies communication and cooperation, within-subject analyses revealed that dogs' muscle movements were distributed more evenly across their facial regions in a highly social test condition compared to conditions in which they received ambiguous cues from their owners. On the whole, this study provides an original evaluation of how facial features may impact communication in human-dog interactions.

Relationship between asymmetric nostril use and human emotional odours in cats

Cat social behaviour and cognition has received a growing interest during the last decades. Recent studies reported that cats efficiently engage in interspecific communication with humans and suggest that cats are sensitive to human emotional visual and auditory cues. To date, there is no evidence on the social and informative role of human emotional odours, which may affect human-cat communication. In this study, we presented cats with human odours collected in different emotional contexts (fear, happiness, physical stress and neutral) and evaluated the animals’ behavioural responses. We found that “fear” odours elicited higher stress levels than “physical stress” and “neutral”, suggesting that cats perceived the valence of the information conveyed by “fear” olfactory signals and regulate their behaviour accordingly. Moreover, the prevalent use of the right nostril (right hemisphere activation) with the increase of stress levels, particularly in response to “fear” odours, provides first evidence of lateralized emotional functions of olfactory pathways in cats.

Chiropteran Reservoirs. Bat Keepers and Bat Carers in Ghana and Australia

ABSTRACT This article studies how zookeepers and wildlife rescuers build relations with bats using experimental apparatuses such as cages. Arguing that interspecies communication with bats as reservoirs of infectious diseases can be described through material environments, such as a bat shelter in Ghana and a bat refuge in Australia, rather than in the short contacts between bats and ‘virus hunters’, it questions how humans can take the perspective of bats in contemporary assemblages of biosecurity. While bat keepers in Accra take the perspective of bats through the viruses they carry as a colony, in a cynegetic logic of storage, bat carers in Australia take the perspective of bats by sharing bodily fluids, in a pastoral logic of care. What is shared in the interspecies communication is framed by the material design of the biosecurity apparatus.

Diffusible signal factor primes plant immunity against Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc) via JA signaling in Arabidopsis and Brassica oleracea.

Many Gram-negative bacteria use quorum sensing (QS) signal molecules to monitor their local population density and to coordinate their collective behaviors. The diffusible signal factor (DSF) family represents an intriguing type of QS signal to mediate intraspecies and interspecies communication. Recently, accumulating evidence demonstrates the role of DSF in mediating inter-kingdom communication between DSF-producing bacteria and plants. However, the regulatory mechanism of DSF during the Xanthomonas-plant interactions remain unclear. Plants were pretreated with different concentration of DSF and subsequent inoculated with pathogen Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc). Pathogenicity, phynotypic analysis, transcriptome combined with metabolome analysis, genetic analysis and gene expression analysis were used to evaluate the priming effects of DSF on plant disease resistance. We found that the low concentration of DSF could prime plant immunity against Xcc in both Brassica oleracea and Arabidopsis thaliana. Pretreatment with DSF and subsequent pathogen invasion triggered an augmented burst of ROS by DCFH-DA and DAB staining. CAT application could attenuate the level of ROS induced by DSF. The expression of RBOHD and RBOHF were up-regulated and the activities of antioxidases POD increased after DSF treatment followed by Xcc inoculation. Transcriptome combined with metabolome analysis showed that plant hormone jasmonic acid (JA) signaling involved in DSF-primed resistance to Xcc in Arabidopsis. The expression of JA synthesis genes (AOC2, AOS, LOX2, OPR3 and JAR1), transportor gene (JAT1), regulator genes (JAZ1 and MYC2) and responsive genes (VSP2, PDF1.2 and Thi2.1) were up-regulated significantly by DSF upon Xcc challenge. The primed effects were not observed in JA relevant mutant coi1-1 and jar1-1. These results indicated that DSF-primed resistance against Xcc was dependent on the JA pathway. Our findings advanced the understanding of QS signal-mediated communication and provide a new strategy for the control of black rot in Brassica oleracea.

The Ritual Music, Culture and Nature of the Chiswa harvesting among Babukusu of Western Kenya

Termite harvesting remains an important ritual and cultural activity in the Bukusu community of Western Kenya. Termites are a delicacy that people enjoy. Harvesting the termites takes different approaches as will be discussed in this article. The paper will, however, focus on one mode that makes use of a musical stimulus to attract the termites into a trap. In this article, I will venture into showing how this ritual of termite harvesting is an important part of the intangible cultural heritage of Babukusu. Further, I will seek to demonstrate how music can be central to interspecies communication. It is also envisaged that this article will contribute to the literature concerning ecomusicology, a new field of study that is in the process of developing definitions and terminology as well as conceptual understanding. This article drew data from field research I carried out in Bungoma County in 2017. Using ethnographic approaches, I interviewed participants during the harvesting rituals. Further data was gathered through participant observation. It is important to note that I come from this community and have over time participated in the ritual. Some of the information in this document is based on my position as an insider who has participated in this ritual over the years.

The Two Faces of Bacterial Membrane Vesicles: Pathophysiological Roles and Therapeutic Opportunities.

Bacterial membrane vesicles (MVs) are nanosized lipid particles secreted by lysis or blebbing mechanisms from Gram-negative and -positive bacteria. It is becoming increasingly evident that MVs can promote antimicrobial resistance but also provide versatile opportunities for therapeutic exploitation. As non-living facsimiles of parent bacteria, MVs can carry multiple bioactive molecules such as proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and metabolites, which enable them to participate in intra- and interspecific communication. Although energetically costly, the release of MVs seems beneficial for bacterial fitness, especially for pathogens. In this review, we briefly discuss the current understanding of diverse MV biogenesis routes affecting MV cargo. We comprehensively highlight the physiological functions of MVs derived from human pathogens covering in vivo adaptation, colonization fitness, and effector delivery. Emphasis is given to recent findings suggesting a vicious cycle of MV biogenesis, pathophysiological function, and antibiotic therapy. We also summarize potential therapeutical applications, such as immunotherapy, vaccination, targeted delivery, and antimicrobial potency, including their experimental validation. This comparative overview identifies common and unique strategies for MV modification used along diverse applications. Thus, the review summarizes timely aspects of MV biology in a so far unprecedented combination ranging from beneficial function for bacterial pathogen survival to future medical applications.

Socializing at the Air-Liquid Interface: a Functional Genomic Analysis on Biofilm-Related Genes during Pellicle Formation by Escherichia coli and Its Interaction with Aeromonas australiensis.

Pellicles are biofilms that form at the air-liquid interface. We demonstrated that specific strains of Escherichia coli formed pellicles in single cultures when cocultured with Carnobacterium maltaromaticum and E. coli O157:H7 but not with Aeromonas australiensis. Therefore, a combination of comparative genomic, mutational, and transcriptome analyses were applied to identify the unique genes in pellicle formation and investigate gene regulation under different growth phases. Here, we report that pellicle-forming strains do not harbor unique genes relative to non-pellicle-forming strains; however, the expression level of biofilm-related genes differed, especially for the genes encoding curli. Further, the regulatory region of curli biosynthesis is phylogenetically different among pellicle- and non-pellicle-forming strains. The disruption on modified cellulose and regulatory region of curli biosynthesis abolished pellicle formation in strains of E. coli. Besides, the addition of quorum sensing molecules (C4-homoserine lactones [C4-HSL]), synthesized by Aeromonas species, to pellicle formers abolished pellicle formation and implied a role of quorum sensing on pellicle formation. The deletion of autoinducer receptor sdiA in E. coli did not restore pellicle formation when cocultured with A. australiensis but modulated expression level of genes for curli and cellulose biosynthesis, resulting in a thinner layer of pellicle. Taken together, this study identified genetic determinants for pellicle formation and characterized the switching between pellicle to surface-associated biofilm in a dual-species environment, facilitating better understanding of the mechanisms for pellicle formation in E. coli and related organisms. IMPORTANCE To date, most attention has focused on biofilm formation on solid surfaces. By comparison, the knowledge on pellicle formation at the air-liquid interface is more limited and few studies document how bacteria decide on whether to form biofilms on solid surfaces or pellicles at the air-liquid interface to the surface-associated biofilms at the bottom. In this report, we characterized the regulation of biofilm-related genes during pellicle formation and document that interspecies communication via quorum sensing contributes to regulating the switch from pellicle to surface-associated biofilm. The discoveries expand the current view of regulatory cascades associated with pellicle formation.

Characterization of the Inflammatory Response Evoked by Bacterial Membrane Vesicles in Intestinal Cells Reveals an RIPK2-Dependent Activation by Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli Vesicles.

Although the immunomodulatory potency of bacterial membrane vesicles (MVs) is widely acknowledged, their interactions with host cells and the underlying signaling pathways have not been well studied. Herein, we provide a comparative analysis of the proinflammatory cytokine profile secreted by human intestinal epithelial cells exposed to MVs derived from 32 gut bacteria. In general, outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) from Gram-negative bacteria induced a stronger proinflammatory response than MVs from Gram-positive bacteria. However, the quality and quantity of cytokine induction varied between MVs from different species, highlighting their unique immunomodulatory properties. OMVs from enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) were among those showing the strongest proinflammatory potency. In depth analyses revealed that the immunomodulatory activity of ETEC OMVs relies on a so far unprecedented two-step mechanism, including their internalization into host cells followed by intracellular recognition. First, OMVs are efficiently taken up by intestinal epithelial cells, which mainly depends on caveolin-mediated endocytosis as well as the presence of the outer membrane porins OmpA and OmpF on the MVs. Second, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) delivered by OMVs is intracellularly recognized by novel caspase- and RIPK2-dependent pathways. This recognition likely occurs via detection of the lipid A moiety as ETEC OMVs with underacylated LPS exhibited reduced proinflammatory potency but similar uptake dynamics compared to OMVs derived from wild-type (WT) ETEC. Intracellular recognition of ETEC OMVs in intestinal epithelial cells is pivotal for the proinflammatory response as inhibition of OMV uptake also abolished cytokine induction. The study signifies the importance of OMV internalization by host cells to exercise their immunomodulatory activities. IMPORTANCE The release of membrane vesicles from the bacterial cell surface is highly conserved among most bacterial species, including outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) from Gram-negative bacteria as well as vesicles liberated from the cytoplasmic membrane of Gram-positive bacteria. It is becoming increasingly evident that these multifactorial spheres, carrying membranous, periplasmic, and even cytosolic content, contribute to intra- and interspecies communication. In particular, gut microbiota and the host engage in a myriad of immunogenic and metabolic interactions. This study highlights the individual immunomodulatory activities of bacterial membrane vesicles from different enteric species and provides new mechanistic insights into the recognition of ETEC OMVs by human intestinal epithelial cells.

Quorum Sensing in Halorubrum saccharovorum Facilitates Cross-Domain Signaling between Archaea and Bacteria.

Quorum Sensing (QS) is a well-studied intercellular communication mechanism in bacteria, regulating collective behaviors such as biofilm formation, virulence, and antibiotic resistance. However, cell-cell signaling in haloarchaea remains largely unexplored. The coexistence of bacteria and archaea in various environments, coupled with the known cell-cell signaling mechanisms in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms and the presence of cell-cell signaling mechanisms in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, suggests a possibility for haloarchaea to possess analogous cell-cell signaling or QS systems. Recently, N-acylhomoserine lactone (AHL)-like compounds were identified in haloarchaea; yet, their precise role-for example, persister cell formation-remains ambiguous. This study investigated the capacity of crude supernatant extract from the haloarchaeon Halorubrum saccharovorum CSM52 to stimulate bacterial AHL-dependent QS phenotypes using bioreporter strains. Our findings reveal that these crude extracts induced several AHL-dependent bioreporters and modulated pyocyanin and pyoverdine production in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Importantly, our study suggests cross-domain communication between archaea and bacterial pathogens, providing evidence for archaea potentially influencing bacterial virulence. Using Thin Layer Chromatography overlay assays, lactonolysis, and colorimetric quantification, the bioactive compound was inferred to be a chemically modified AHL-like compound or a diketopiperazine-like molecule, potentially involved in biofilm formation in H. saccharovorum CSM52. This study offers new insights into putative QS mechanisms in haloarchaea and their potential role in interspecies communication and coordination, thereby enriching our understanding of microbial interactions in diverse environments.

Discovery of AI-2 Quorum Sensing Inhibitors Targeting the LsrK/HPr Protein-Protein Interaction Site by Molecular Dynamics Simulation, Virtual Screening, and Bioassay Evaluation.

Quorum sensing (QS) is a cell-to-cell communication mechanism that regulates bacterial pathogenicity, biofilm formation, and antibiotic sensitivity. Among the identified quorum sensing, AI-2 QS exists in both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and is responsible for interspecies communication. Recent studies have highlighted the connection between the phosphotransferase system (PTS) and AI-2 QS, with this link being associated with protein-protein interaction (PPI) between HPr and LsrK. Here, we first discovered several AI-2 QSIs targeting the LsrK/HPr PPI site through molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, virtual screening, and bioassay evaluation. Of the 62 compounds purchased, eight compounds demonstrated significant inhibition in LsrK-based assays and AI-2 QS interference assays. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis confirmed that the hit compound 4171-0375 specifically bound to the LsrK-N protein (HPr binding domain, KD = 2.51 × 10-5 M), and therefore the LsrK/HPr PPI site. The structure-activity relationships (SARs) emphasized the importance of hydrophobic interactions with the hydrophobic pocket and hydrogen bonds or salt bridges with key residues of LsrK for LsrK/HPr PPI inhibitors. These new AI-2 QSIs, especially 4171-0375, exhibited novel structures, significant LsrK inhibition, and were suitable for structural modification to search for more effective AI-2 QSIs.

Aspergillus fumigatus Extracellular Vesicles Display Increased Galleria mellonella Survival but Partial Pro-Inflammatory Response by Macrophages

Fungal extracellular vesicles (EVs) mediate intra- and interspecies communication and are critical in host-fungus interaction, modulating inflammation and immune responses. In this study, we evaluated the in vitro pro- and anti-inflammatory properties of Aspergillus fumigatus EVs over innate leukocytes. A. fumigatus EVs induced a partial proinflammatory response by macrophages, characterized by increased tumor necrosis factor-alpha production, and increased gene expression of induced nitric oxide synthase and adhesion molecules. EVs induce neither NETosis in human neutrophils nor cytokine secretion by peripheral mononuclear cells. However, prior inoculation of A. fumigatus EVs in Galleria mellonella larvae resulted in increased survival after the fungal challenge. Taken together, these findings show that A. fumigatus EVs play a role in protection against fungal infection, although they induce a partial pro-inflammatory response.

Bacteria separation and enrichment using viscoelastic flows in a straight microchannel

Bacteria occupy a large domain of prokaryotic microorganisms on earth and play a significant role in public health. In this study, we achieve continuous size-based bacteria separation using viscoelastic flows in a microchannel. Three types of bacteria that differ in size, including Lactobacillus rhamnosus (L. rhamnosus), Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) are employed. First, the separation of L. rhamnosus and S. epidermidis is investigated. Under the combined effects of inertial lift and elastic forces, the larger L. rhamnosus cells are driven toward the channel centre while the smaller S. epidermidis cells flow in narrow streams along the channel sidewalls. The results show that the separation performance of the viscoelastic microfluidic device is affected by four main factors: channel length, total flow rate (TFR), sheath-to-sample flow rate ratio (FRR) and polyethylene oxide (PEO) concentration. Furthermore, the separation of L. rhamnosus and E. coli is demonstrated. This work overcomes the issues like shape irregularity and size variation in bacterial samples and achieves the separation of two types of bacteria in a size-dependent manner. We expect that this work will facilitate the future studies of bacterial interspecies communication and interactions as well as the development of biology, biomedicine and biotechnology.

Investigating Possible Interspecies Communication of Plasmids Associated with Transfer of Third-Generation Cephalosporin, Quinolone, and Colistin Resistance Between Simultaneously Isolated Escherichia Coli and Klebsiella Pneumoniae.

The coinfection process producing multiple species of pathogens provides a specific ecological niche for the exchange of genetic materials between pathogens, in which plasmids play a vital role in horizontal gene transfer, especially for drug resistance, but the underlying transfer pathway remains unclear. Interspecies communication of the plasmids associated with the transfer of third-generation cephalosporins, quinolones, and colistin resistance has been observed in simultaneously isolated Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae from abdominal drainage following surgery. The MICs of antimicrobial agents were determined by the broth microdilution method. The complete chromosome and plasmid sequences were obtained by combining Illumina paired-end short reads and MinION long reads. S1-PFGE, southern blot analysis and conjugation assay confirmed the transferability of the mcr-1-harboring plasmid. Both the E. coli isolate EC15255 and K. pneumoniae isolate KP15255 from the same specimen presented multidrug resistance. Each of them harbored one chromosome and three plasmids, and two plasmids and their mediated resistance could be transferred to the recipient by conjugation. Comparison of their genome sequences suggested that several genetic communication events occurred between species, especially among their plasmids, such as whole-plasmid transfer, insertion, deletion, amplification, or inversion. Exchange of plasmids or the genetic elements they harbor plays a critical role in antimicrobial resistance gene transmission and poses a substantial threat to nosocomial infection control, necessitating the continued surveillance of multidrug resistant pathogens, especially during coinfection. IMPORTANCE The genome sequence of bacterial pathogens commonly provides a detailed clue of genetic communication among clones or even distinct species. The intestinal microecological environment is a representative ecological niche for genetic communication. However, it is still difficult to describe the details of horizontal gene transfer or other genetic events within them because the evidence in the genome sequence is incomplete and limited. In this study, the simultaneously isolated Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae from a coinfection process provided an excellent example for observation of interspecies communication between the two genomes and the plasmids they harbor. A complete genome sequence acquired by combining the Illumina and MinION sequencing platforms facilitated the understanding of genetic communication events, such as whole-plasmid transfer, insertion, deletion, amplification, or inversion, which contribute to antimicrobial resistance gene transmission and are a substantial threat to nosocomial infection control.
