Real-time Soldier Health and Location Tracking System

To improve military personnel's overall health and operational efficiency, the Soldier's Health Monitoring and Position Tracking System integrates innovative technology in a comprehensive way. Military commanders are guaranteed complete situational awareness with this system's combination of real-time health monitoring and exact position tracking. Vital physiological indicators including heart rate, temperature, and blood oxygen levels are continuously collected and analysed as part of the health monitoring element. The measurements are sent wirelessly to a command centre, so any possible health problems may be identified quickly and responded to quickly. In order to keep meticulous records of each soldier's exact whereabouts in the field, the system simultaneously makes use of cutting-edge GPS and INS technology. The seamless integration of geo-spatial information with health data gives commanders a comprehensive picture of the troops' physical state and where they are. Military authorities may make educated judgements based on the collective health and positioning data using the system's user interface, which provides an intuitive dashboard for real-time monitoring. The data will be sent to the command centre via the Internet of Things. Components of the suggested system include gearbox modules, small wearable physiological equipment, and sensors. As a result, the suggested gear may be used to provide a cheap method of protecting the precious human life on the battlefield. Using global positioning system (GPS) and cellular service mobile phone (GSM) technology, this device can wirelessly monitor the soldier's vitals, including his or her heart rate and temperature.

Construction of an urban multi variable geospatial information integration model based on distributed artificial intelligence

In order to improve the ability of urban multi-spatial information integration, a multi-spatial information integration model based on artificial intelligence is proposed. The empirical analysis model of urban multivariate geospatial information integration is established, and the statistical characteristics are analysed according to the information distribution. The multi-resolution clustering model of urban multi-spatial information is established by using the multi-regression parameter method. The methods of fuzzy feature extraction and associated feature mining were used to extract information features, and the constraint parameters of urban multivariate geospatial information integration were analysed by GIS parameter estimation and statistical analysis. The parameter optimisation model of urban multivariate geospatial information integration is established and the artificial intelligence learning algorithm is used to integrate urban multivariate geospatial information. The simulation results show that this method has a good adaptability to the integration of urban multi-spatial information, and is helpful to the spatial distribution planning of geographic information, and improves the ability of accurate mining and scheduling of urban multi-spatial information.

GEMAR: web-based GIS for emergency management and ambulance routing

ABSTRACT In this study, we developed a web-based emergency management system to provide timely treatments to patients in emergency conditions. With the integration of geospatial information and technologies, a global positioning system, and optimization technique, we designed a system consisting of two subsystems, emergency reporting and ambulance routing. The reporting subsystem helps in collecting emergency information in urban areas using geocoding and geolocation function, while the routing subsystem generates the optimal route for pick-up operation and selects the nearest hospital for patient delivery process. A committee of 10 experts comprising of seven medical experts and three GIS experts are invited to use the system. We performed system evaluation in terms of technology acceptance and usability issues. The technology acceptance’s mean score ranged from 3.70 to 4.40, while the usability means score ranged from 4.00 to 4.50. The results indicated that the system provided user-friendliness features so that they are willing to use the system in the near future. The medical experts also perceived that the system was easy to operate and navigate. They stated that the two subsystems are helpful for clinical operators to understand a common situation in emergency handling. We used their feedback to further improve and refine the program.

The Integration of Geospatial information and Digital archives

In this paper, through my experience of supporting the use of GLAM data in digital archives, I discussed the necessity and the methods of preserving and utilizing GLAM data by integrating geospatial information and GLAM data from the standpoint of geospatial information. In the future, GLAM data, including Japan Search, will require the development and refinement of location information metadata by GLAM institutions, the field of geographic information science, and citizen participation, such as the transfer of geocoding methods from addresses and the development of a WebGIS mechanism that allows location information metadata assignment. On the side of geographic information science, it is necessary to organize and provide bone digital geospatial information in terms of digital archiving.

Construction of multi-scale grid for massive land survey data

In the face of ever-growing and complex massive multi-source spatiotemporal data, the traditional vector data model is increasingly difficult to meet the needs of efficient data organization, management, calculation and analysis. Based on the simple and widely used geographic grid data organization model, this paper designs a technical method to convert vector data into multi-scale grid data, establishes a unified, standardized and seamless land spatial grid data model, and analyses the area accuracy of multi-scale grid data. Practice shows that the model can better meet the needs of multi-scale geospatial information integration and analysis, and it is easy to carry out distributed data processing, which provides technical support for the efficient organization, fusion and analysis of spatiotemporal data.

Furthermore in many countries surveyors may be entitled to make decisions about land divisions and boundaries. By managing information spatially surveyors today develop into the role of geo-data managers, the longer the more. Job assignments in this context include data entry management, data and process quality management, design of formal and informal systems, information management, consultancy, land management, all that in close cooperation with many different stakeholders. Future tasks will include the integration of geospatial information into e-government and e-commerce systems. The list of professional tasks underpins the capabilities of surveyors to contribute to a high quality geospatial data and information management. In that way modern surveyors support the needs of a geo-spatial society. The paper discusses several approaches to define the role of the surveyor within the modern geospatial society.

An evaluation of ontology matching techniques on geospatial ontologies

Standardization is one of the pillars of interoperability. In this context, efforts promoted by the Open Geospatial Consortium, such as CityGML (Technical University, Berlin), a standard for exchanging three-dimensional models or urban city objects, are welcomed. However, information from other domains of interest (e.g. energy efficiency or building information modeling) is needed for tasks such as land planning, large-scale flooding analysis, or demand/supply energy simulations. CityGML allows extension in order to integrate information from other domains, but the development process is expensive because there is no way to perform it automatically. The discovery of correspondences between CityGML concepts and other domains concepts poses a significant challenge.Ontology matching is the research field emerged from the Semantic Web to address automatic ontology integration. Using the ontology underlying CityGML and the ontologies which model other domains of interest, ontology matching would be able to find the correspondences that would permit the integration in a more automatic manner than it is done now.In this paper, we evaluate if ontology matching techniques allow performing an automatic integration of geospatial information modeled from different viewpoints. In order to achieve this, an evaluation methodology was designed, and it was applied to the discovery of relationships between CityGML and ontologies coming from the building information modeling and Geospatial Semantic Web domains. The methodology and the results of the evaluation are presented. The best results have been achieved using string-based techniques, while matching systems give the worst precision and recall. Only in a few cases the values are over 50%, which shows the limitations when these techniques are applied to ontologies with a partial overlap.

Geospatial Information Integration for Authoritative and Crowd Sourced Road Vector Data

AbstractThis article describes results from a research project undertaken to explore the technical issues associated with integrating unstructured crowd sourced data with authoritative national mapping data. The ultimate objective is to develop methodologies to ensure the feature enrichment of authoritative data, using crowd sourced data. Users increasingly find that they wish to use data from both kinds of geographic data sources. Different techniques and methodologies can be developed to solve this problem. In our previous research, a position map matching algorithm was developed for integrating authoritative and crowd sourced road vector data, and showed promising results (Anand et al. 2010). However, especially when integrating different forms of data at the feature level, these techniques are often time consuming and are more computationally intensive than other techniques available. To tackle these problems, this project aims at developing a methodology for automated conflict resolution, linking and merging of geographical information from disparate authoritative and crowd‐sourced data sources. This article describes research undertaken by the authors on the design, implementation, and evaluation of algorithms and procedures for producing a coherent ontology from disparate geospatial data sources. To integrate road vector data from disparate sources, the method presented in this article first converts input data sets to ontologies, and then merges these ontologies into a new ontology. This new ontology is then checked and modified to ensure that it is consistent. The developed methodology can deal with topological and geometry inconsistency and provide more flexibility for geospatial information merging.

Mining Geospatial Knowledge on the Social Web

Up-to-date geospatial information can help crisis management community to coordinate its response. In addition to data that is created and curated by experts, there is an abundance of user-generated, user-curated data on Social Web sites such as Flickr, Twitter, and Google Earth. User-generated data and metadata can be used to harvest knowledge, including geospatial knowledge that will help solve real-world problems including information discovery, geospatial information integration and data management. This paper proposes a method for acquiring geospatial knowledge in the form of places and relations between them from the user-generated data and metadata on the Social Web. The key to acquiring geospatial knowledge from social metadata is the ability to accurately represent places. The authors describe a simple, efficient algorithm for finding a non-convex boundary of a region from a sample of points from that region. Used within a procedure that learns part-of relations between places from real-world data extracted from the social photo-sharing site Flickr, the proposed algorithm leads to more precise relations than the earlier method and helps uncover knowledge not contained in expert-curated geospatial knowledge bases.

A high-level architecture for a Geomatics Informatization Technology System: the Chinese case

China will, as a component of ‘Digital Earth,’ establish a Geomatics Informatization Technology System (GITS) which is characterized by real-time acquisition, automatic processing, networking service, and socialized application with fundamental geographical information. The basic composition of GITS is proposed. GITS covers four layers and six platforms. The four layers are data acquisition, processing, management, and application and services. The six platforms are informatic geodetic datum, high-precision geo-spatial data acquisition, automatic geo-spatial data processing, grid-based geo-spatial information management, comprehensive geo-spatial information sharing and service, and geo-spatial information integration and application. The informatic geodetic datum platform provides a carrier for all the four layers and a base for the other five platforms. The high-precision geo-spatial data acquisition platform belongs to the acquisition layer. The automatic geo-spatial data processing platform belongs to the processing layer. The grid-based geo-spatial information management platform belongs to the management layer and is a bridge connecting geo-spatial data acquisition and spatial information sharing service and integrated applications. The comprehensive geo-spatial information sharing and service platform belongs to the application and service layer. Finally, this paper presents thoughts for constructing GITS.

Multi-source geospatial information integration and sharing in Virtual Globes

Massive volumes of global geospatial information are being collected by newly designed acquisition devices and generated by various geospatial applications. This poses a critical challenge to efficiently organize and effectively integrate global multi-source geospatial information. This paper introduces a global seamless data model for the organization of huge multi-source, multi-resolution and multi-temporal geospatial data. Based on this data model, the management of the global multi-resolution pyramid is discussed in detail. To integrate geospatial data and processing functions from various GIS systems, a service-oriented framework is presented through the technology of Virtual Globe. Finally, a Virtual Globe system, GeoGlobe, is developed and illustrated.

Public Policy and the Digital Geospatial Representation of Designated Land Use in the UK: PART II

The development of OSMM, structured to DNF standards, 135 offering a digital base map for integration of geospatial information, has provided an important foundation for future expansion of online definitive mapping in the UK. Creation of a sound mapping infrastructure is, nevertheless, only the first step in building the relationship between national mapping activity and exploitation of digital technology. As time passes the transition from paper to digital formats in public administration is going to impose increasing demands for digital map data sets to be adopted. In some cases there will be pressure to move from indicative to definitive map status in which the digital information presented is conclusive as evidence of what it contains. Not all mapping services, however, will require this further step to be taken. This is because OS, in any case, is committed to continual improvement of its base map products as shown, for example, by its current investment in the PAI programme 136 which is designed to tidy up any discrepancies in geographic positioning within its base map operations. For many applications, the high standard of indicative accuracy to be found within OSMM should suffice, as opposed to the more exacting standards and process requirements that must accompany any transition to definitive status.

A web-based framework for urban data sharing and dynamic integration

In urban planning and management, data sharing and integration are always problematic because urban datasets are heterogeneous and scattered in different domains and organisations. This paper introduces the research work being carried within the Virtual Environment Planning (VEPS) project. Based on a loosely-coupled mediator system and Open Geospatial Consortium’s Web Services (OWS) architecture, a Web-based information service framework is designed to support the sharing and integration of geo-spatial information, building information and other related information. In this framework, a Building Feature Service (BFS) is defined to implement the retrieval of building information model on the Web according to the OWS principles. The BFS can act as a Web-based building information server for urban planning and construction stakeholders. As proof of concept, an initial prototype is developed to demonstrate the data sharing and integration based on this web-based information service framework. En la planificación y la gestión urbana, el intercambio de datos y la integración son siempre problemáticos porque los conjuntos de datos urbanos son heterogéneos y dispersos en distintos ámbitos y organizaciones. En este trabajo se presenta el trabajo de investigación realizado dentro del proyecto de Planificación Virtual Ambiental (VEPS). Sobre la base de un sistema mediador de acoplamiento flexible y servicios web basados en la arquitectura fijada por el Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), se ha diseñado un marco de servicio de información basado en la web para apoyar el intercambio y la integración de la información geoespacial, la construcción de la información y otra información relacionada. En este marco, un Servicio de Construcción de Entidades (BFS) se define para poner en práctica la recuperación de la construcción del modelo de información en la web de acuerdo con los principios de OGC. Los BFS pueden actuar como un servidor de información de edificios basada en web para la planificación urbana y las partes interesadas de la construcción. Como prueba de concepto, un primer prototipo ha sido desarrollado para demostrar el intercambio de datos y la integración sobre la base de este marco de servicios de información en línea. En la planificació i la gestió urbana, l'intercanvi de dades i la integració són sempre problemàtics perquè els conjunts de dades urbanes són heterogènies i disperses en diferents àmbits i organitzacions. En aquest treball es presenta la recerca realitzada dins del projecte de Planificació Virtual Ambiental (VEPS). Sobre la base d'un sistema mediador d'acoblament flexible i serveis web basats en l'arquitectura fixada per l'Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), s'ha dissenyat un marc de servei d'informació basat en web per donar suport l'intercanvi i la integració de la informació geoespacial, la construcció de la informació i altra relacionada. Implementation of a spatial decision support system for rural land use planning: integrating geographic information system and environmental models with search and optimisation algorithms

The implementation of a spatial decision support system (DSS) developed as a tool for rural land use planning at the management unit level is described. The DSS fulfils the need for a tool that allows rural land managers to explore their land use options and the potential impacts of land use change. The DSS is based on five components: a geographic information system (GIS); land use modules; impact assessment modules; a graphical user interface; and land use planning tools. These components are implemented across two software platforms Gensym’s G2 knowledge based system (KBS) development environment and Smallworld GIS. Following a review of the DSS components, the paper focuses on two aspects. First, the use of the object-orientation paradigm to facilitate the integration of geospatial information. Second is the proposed use of genetic algorithms, a class of search and optimisation algorithm, to find optimum land use plans using the integrated functionality of both KBS and GIS.
