Responsible research and innovation: An ambidexterity lens of generalized and specialized responsibilities

AbstractThe incompatibility between diverse responsible principles of science and technology (S&T) and multi‐stakeholders' heterogeneous value assessments underscores the importance of coordinating normative principles of responsible research and innovation (RRI). In this context, this study adopts an ambidexterity lens to address this issue, conceptualizing two constructs—“generalized responsibility” and “specialized responsibility” of S&T (GRST and SRST)—to illustrate the trade‐offs. It explores the antecedents of GRST and SRST from an agency perspective. Drawing from a dataset of 19,707 poll responses, the study employs a fractional logit regression model to examine the relationships between three types of agency (iterational agency, strategic agency, and ethical agency) and GRST and SRST. The results reveal a positive relationship between iterational agency and SRST, and between strategic agency and GRST, as well as U‐shaped effects of iterational agency on GRST, strategic agency on SRST, and ethical agency on both GRST and SRST. Moreover, ethical agency is found to be more important for SRST than for GRST. The study offers theoretical and policy implications for a critical discussion about responsible innovation.

These principles not only reflect a comprehensive and systematic consideration of scientific and technological talent work, but also provide solid theoretical foundations and practical guidance for technological innovation and talent development.Specifically, in the cultivation of scientific and technological talents, emphasis is placed on practice and innovation as the core, focusing on comprehensive quality cultivation, aiming to create a high-quality talent team that can adapt to the technological development needs of the new era. In attracting scientific and technological talents, an open and inclusive approach is adopted, actively introducing outstanding talents from both domestic and foreign sources, building a diversified talent attraction mechanism. When selecting scientific and technological talents, evaluation criteria are based on ability and contribution, ensuring fairness and scientific rigor in the selection process. In terms of management and motivation, emphasis is placed on personalized management and effective incentives to stimulate the innovative vitality of scientific and technological talents.By implementing these principles, it will effectively promote the gathering and growth of scientific and technological talents, providing strong talent support for China's scientific and technological cause and economic and social development, further driving technological innovation and social progress in the new era.

A Theoretical and Practical Approach to Exponential Relation between Innovation and Sustainable Development

A Aside from the political, geographic, economic, legal, social, and cultural problems that every nation, state, and government faces, it is evident that sustainable development is the key to sustainability, progress, and improving the quality of life. Achieving SDG targets has been seen as the primary trend for the past 15 years and the foreseeable future. In this direction, with an eye towards the fifth industrial revolution, innovation has been viewed as one of the primary production variables, along with land, labor, capital, and entrepreneurship, to help address current and future difficulties facing humanity. This study aimed to shed light on the connections between innovation and sustainable development. To test Hypothesis H1, which states a positive solid relationship between the SDG Index and ISO 9001 Index, we conducted a statistical analysis using regressive analysis between the Sustainable Development Goals Index and Innovation Index. This was done to compare the results to Hypothesis H0, which suggests no such relationship exists. The research's findings indicate that scientific management of the factors of production opens up possibilities for long-term sustainable development, ensuring the prosperity of society and everyday life for future generations, encouraging economic growth, and improving the quality of life without endangering the environment. Innovation, embodied in the ISO 56000 family of standards, is applied as an efficient and effective tool, which is urgently needed. The overall conclusion of the study – which also serves as a practical and social contribution to the field – is that, to achieve and sustain sustainable development scenarios, all interested parties – individuals, public and private institutions, decision-makers, and civil society – should look forward to ensuring that the SDG and innovation are built and maintained. Innovation principles can be applied as effective and efficient tools.

Smart specialization of industrial regions of Ukraine: organizational and economic support

Industrial regions of Ukraine, especially near-front territories (Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions), suffered the greatest damage and losses as a result of the full-scale war. The needs for their recovery, according to the joint assessment of international institutions and the Ukrainian government, constitute half (50.46% or $207.2 billion USD) of the reconstruction needs for Ukraine. Considering the structural lag of the economy in industrial regions, dominated by sectors with weak innovation activity and low technological intensity, the continuation of pre-war development trajectories is absolutely unacceptable and non-competitive in the context of the Industry 4.0-5.0 which gains traction globally. In the conditions of a significant change in the profiles of industrial regions due to the war, there is an opportunity to revive their economy but on fundamentally new, innovative principles. Smart specialization can be utilized for this purpose, aiming at the structural transformation of the economy and the development of new competitive advantages for regions and countries. Emphasis is placed on the necessity of conducting a critical analysis and rethinking the implementation directions of smart specialization in the industrial regions of Ukraine. This is due to the varying degrees of consideration of its fundamental principles in the regional development strategies for 2021-2027 and the need for the structural transformation of their economies to overcome the consequences of the war for the local population. The purpose of the article is to identify key problems in the field of organizational and economic support for the implementation of the smart specialization approach in the industrial regions of Ukraine and to determine ways to solve them, taking into account purely Ukrainian challenges and EU experience. The role of organizational and economic support for the implementation of the smart specialization approach in national conditions has been substantiated. The scientific understanding of the main organizational and economic problems and shortcomings of the implementation of the smart specialization approach in the industrial regions of Ukraine has been deepened. It is highlighted that freezing these problems and the absence of appropriate actions to address them will prevent structural and innovation transformations in the economies of regions based on the principles of sustainable development, thereby excluding the possibility of overcoming their structural backwardness. Proposals on ways to solve existing organizational and economic problems are substantiated, taking into account purely Ukrainian challenges, and the knowledge obtained in the EU member states during the implementation of this approach over the last ten years. The practical implementation of these proposals will make it possible to adjust the smart-oriented goals and sectoral focuses of regional development strategies, to direct them to the transformation of the economy of industrial regions through the support of sectors and industries that have the potential to develop new competitive advantages.

The S20 Brazilian Mental Health Report for Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet: Part II.

This is the second part of the Brazilian S20 mental health report. The mental health working group is dedicated to leveraging scientific insights to foster innovation and propose actionable recommendations for implementation in Brazil and participating countries. In addressing the heightened mental health challenges in a post-pandemic world, strategies should encompass several key elements. This second part of the S20 Brazilian Mental Health Report will delve into some of these elements, including: the impact of climate change on mental health, the influence of environmental factors on neurodevelopmental disorders, the intersection of serious mental illness and precision psychiatry, the co-occurrence of physical and mental disorders, advancements in biomarkers for mental disorders, the utilization of digital health in mental healthcare, the implementation of interventional psychiatry, and the design of innovative mental health systems integrating principles of innovation and human rights. Reassessing the treatment settings for psychiatric patients within general hospitals, where their mental health and physical needs are addressed should be prioritized in mental health policy. As the S20 countries prepare for the future, we need principles that stand to advance innovation, uphold human rights, and strive for the highest standards in mental health care.

A Comparison o f RULA, REBA Assessment on Work Activity o f Installing Safety Tape o n Floor Surf ace Using Assistive Tools

Safety tape used to mark hazardous, high risk machine and low hanging object in factories, hospital and so on. With the tape, it can warn people to be careful and not play around the area. Additionaly, nowadays the tape is used at all pemises as warning to people to keep social distancing at least 1 meter. Currently, people are installing the safety tape on the floor manually, without any proper assistive tools to apply, measure and cut the safety tape. Unfortunately, this method is time-consuming, and the worker faces body aches such as in the waist, knees, and arms as they need to bend over and be in an uncomfortable posture while laying the tape. The main objective of this research is to evaluate the RULA and REBA assessment of the current method of safety tape installation. The data will contribute to the design and development of assistive tools to install the tape. The tool is assessed using Theory and Innovative Problem Solving and Universal Design Principles (TRIZ-UDP) intervention tools. This tool will contribute towards design features which are deemed suitable to improve the element of universal design. From the UDP-TRIZ, UDP1a has suggested that the product be designed with TRIZ inventive principle "6 Universality". This tool is equitable for Malaysians by making the tools fit the users' height and size. The improvement toward UDP3b and UDP6a contribute towards ergonomic performance. Further after the development, the prototype is later tested, and another set of RULA and REBA assessments is executed to evaluate the improvement. Results of the RULA and REBA assessment onto the task with using the assistive tool has managed to lower the risk, and it can save working time to 34.5%

Introduction to the Special Issue: Leveraging Global Value Chains for innovation and industrialization in Africa

The global nature of innovation has led to the emergence of Global Innovation Networks (GINs) and Global Value Chains (GVCs), facilitating knowledge exchange and economic activities across borders. GVCs offer platforms for accessing external knowledge and fostering innovation. They have evolved through three eras of innovation models: the Linear and Closed Model (LCM), the Interactive and Closed Model (ICM), and the Interactive and Open Model (IOM). The IOM emphasizes open innovation principles, intersecting with GINs and GVCs. Lessons from East Asian and Latin American countries highlight strategic practices for GVC integration, focusing on export-oriented industrialization, education, technology policies, infrastructure, and SME support. In Africa, GVC engagement spans agriculture, manufacturing, and services sectors, driving economic growth, job creation, and technological advancements. To advance GVC participation in Africa, a research agenda, policy directions, and action plans are proposed. The research agenda emphasizes GVC governance, value addition, sustainability, innovation, and regional integration. Policy directions focus on infrastructure development, trade facilitation, SME support, human capital development, and promoting sustainable and inclusive growth. African businesses are encouraged to conduct value chain mapping, form strategic partnerships, embrace technology, ensure quality assurance, invest in capacity building, and diversify markets to leverage the potential of GVCs for economic transformation and global competitiveness.

Культурный код: определение понятия и практическая проблематика феномена: теоретический обзор

The aim of the study is to form a theoretical core of understanding of this phenomenon within the framework of theoretical review of modern concepts of cultural code. The article considers different definitional, structural and functional aspects of the cultural code, reveals its psychic roots and significance in human behavior, structure, sign-symbolic, figurative and value content, the role of a connecting element between the psyche and culture, the function of a communicative element and an interpreter of cultural texts and a cipher encapsulating the main meanings of culture. The significance of the cultural code in ethnic and national forms of human existence, in the construction of social and cultural identity is established. The key problems and risks associated with the defragmentation of the cultural code are outlined: standardization and unification of cultural codes within the framework of globalization, ideological and cultural wars and propaganda, excessive subordination of culture to market and materialistic principles, erosion of traditional values and meanings and at the same time imbalance between traditional and innovative principles in culture, conflictogenicity and disharmony of socio-cultural space as factors of intergroup and international conflicts, destructive processes, and the emergence of new cultural codes. Based on the generalization and synthesis of the obtained knowledge, a new theoretical and conceptual core of the cultural code is formulated as a structure that determines the image-symbolic and value content of culture, its ethnic and national peculiarities, the prospects of development of the sociocultural environment or the mechanisms slowing down this development, as well as the specificity of unconscious thinking and behavior of the people-expressor of the culture and its codes. In the framework of the proposed concept, the cultural code appears as a kind of “genome” of culture, laying the foundations of its development, determining the nature of interaction and human assimilation of its products, serves as a basic mechanism of specific cultural mastering and transformation of the world around people, as well as a decoder that allows (if correctly interpreted) to read the mental characteristics of social groups and influence them in the mental and behavioral sense.

Study on the Connotation and Application of Multimodal Teaching Mode in Foreign Language Teaching

Amidst the rapid evolution of educational informationization, learning data, and teaching models are constantly updated and iterated. As a product of the information age, multimodal teaching is widely used in today's teaching practice. However, shortcomings still persist in multimodal teaching within foreign language education, requiring further enhancement and utilization. This study examines the impact and significance of educational informatization on multimodal teaching, aiming to propose reformative strategies. Delving into the essence and application of multimodal teaching in foreign language education opens up a wealth of possibilities for enhancing the learning experience and ensuring effective communication skills development. This research aims to summarize the practice of multimodal teaching in the field of foreign language education, shedding light on its impact on instructional innovation principles and the integration of foreign language education with information technology. Additionally, given the challenges in the application of multimodal teaching mode, this study puts forward some suggestions for reference. This research recommends bolstering the use of multimedia devices and online resources to drive reform and innovation in multimodal teaching practices, offering valuable insights for advancing education, especially in second language acquisition and information technology applications.

Children’s Hospital Environment Design Based on AHP/QFD and Other Theoretical Models

Spatial environmental factors can effectively alleviate children’s fear of the medical environment when they seek medical treatment. This study focuses on the special environmental space of a children’s hospital, thoroughly considering the emotional needs of and the therapeutic effects on children as a unique group during medical treatment. By analyzing the existing design of children’s hospital environments, this research actively explores more suitable environmental design solutions for children’s healthcare settings. This study summarizes the user demand factors of children’s hospital environmental space design through field research and analysis interviews and calculates the weight indicators of user demand through AHP hierarchical analysis. On this basis, based on the QFD theoretical model, user needs are transformed into technical needs, and a house of quality is drawn to judge the conflicting needs through the positive and negative correlations between the factors. Finally, the forty invention principles of the TRIZ innovation theory are used to propose a solution to the environmental space program of children’s hospitals to obtain the optimal solution to the environmental space design effect. This study shows that incorporating theoretical models of AHP, QFD, and TRIZ into the environmental space design of children’s hospitals can improve and optimize the environmental space of children’s hospitals, and the example of a children’s hospital can be designed to meet children’s emotional needs according to this model. A series of interesting innovative practices, such as personalized digital information diagnosis and treatment, interesting visual guidance, and the implicit healing effect of color, can be realized. The aim is to create a modern, child-friendly medical environment that not only meets medical functional requirements but also effectively alleviates the stress of pediatric patients during diagnosis and treatment. This study preliminarily verifies the scientificity and rationality of the entire design process and provides a reference for the design practices of children’s hospital environments.

Accountability for maternal and newborn health: Why measuring and monitoring broader social, political, and health system determinants matters.

This article offers four key lessons learned from a set of seven studies undertaken as part of the collection entitled, "Improving Maternal Health Measurement to Support Efforts toward Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality". These papers were aimed at validating ten of the Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality initiative indicators that capture information on distal causes of maternal mortality. These ten indicators were selected through an inclusive consultative process, and the research designs adhere to global recommendations on conducting indicator validation studies. The findings of these papers are timely and relevant given growing recognition of the role of macro-level social, political, and economic factors in maternal and newborn survival. The four key lessons include: 1) Strengthen efforts to capture maternal and newborn health policies to enable global progress assessments while reducing multiple requests to countries for similar data; 2) Monitor indicator "bundles" to understand degree of policy implementation, inconsistencies between laws and practices, and responsiveness of policies to individual and community needs; 3) Promote regular monitoring of a holistic set of human resource metrics to understand how to effectively strengthen the maternal and newborn health workforce; and 4) Develop and disseminate clear guidance for countries on how to assess health system as well as broader social and political determinants of maternal and newborn health. These lessons are consistent with the Kirkland principles of focus, relevance, innovation, equity, global leadership, and country ownership. They stress the value of indicator sets to understand complex phenomenon related to maternal and newborn health, including small groupings of complementary indicators for measuring policy implementation and health workforce issues. They also stress the fundamental ethos that maternal and newborn health indicators should only be tracked if they can drive actions at global, regional, national, or sub-national levels that improve lives.

Analysis of the valve positioner pilot valve hole plugging

The valve positioner is an important supporting component of the regulating valve. The pilot valve is a crucial component of the valve positioner, and its major job is to reverse the gas route. The current lack of efficient solutions for internal pilot valve blockage is due to the unavoidable oil loss inside the positioner and the simple entry of external dust and other contaminants into the valve, resulting in oil blockage inside the pilot valve. The fault tree theory is utilized in this study to evaluate the reason of the pilot valve blockage problem, and it is coupled with 39 engineering factors in TRIZ theory to innovate the internal structure of the pilot valve using a contradiction matrix and 40 invention principles. The product’s dependability was then confirmed by fluid analysis using Ansys fluent.

The research methods employed include a comprehensive analysis of specific works to isolate fundamentally similar operations. Furthermore, model the commonality of corporate style and its components as an integrated system to identify the forms of new elements. This study involves an in-depth examination of theoretical materials and a detailed analysis of case studies, focusing on key features that render the development of corporate identity innovative. These include visual identity, flexibility, storytelling, authenticity, universal design, personalisation, VR, AR, AI, and sustainability. Visual identity ensures brands are recognisable and memorable. Flexibility allows brands to adjust their visual elements across various platforms, maintaining consistency. Storytelling and authenticity build trust and loyalty by conveying a brand’s history and values. Universal design enhances reach by being inclusive. Personalisation tailours identity to individual preferences, creating relevant experiences. VR and AR offer immersive experiences, enhancing brand engagement. AI facilitates dynamic brand elements that evolve based on real-time data. A sustainable approach aligns brands with consumer demand for eco-friendly practices. In summary, the innovative development of corporate identity is characterised by a multifaceted approach that integrates visual identity, adaptability, storytelling, inclusivity, personalisation, immersive technologies, AI, and sustainability. Each of these elements contributes to a cohesive and compelling brand presence that resonates with contemporary consumers. Implementing these innovative principles to carry out projects will help create a unique and dynamic corporate style that stands out in the competitive market, emotionally influences the audience, and contributes to success

Інституційні засади реконструктивного розвитку сільських територій під час воєнного стану

The purpose of the article is to form the institutional framework for ensuring the reconstructive development of rural areas of Ukraine under martial law. The creation of the National Fund for the Revival of Agricultural Production and Villages in the de-occupied territories as a special institution, a non-profit budget institution, whose activities are coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, has been substantiated. The scope of its activity is supposed to include the issue of accelerated restoration of the agrarian sector and villages in the liberated territories by coordinating the activities of state executive authorities, local self-government, and public organizations, as well as business structures, regarding the targeted accumulation, distribution, and use of relevant resources to meet the needs of all agribusiness subjects. It was determined that the main principles of creation and activity of the Fund are the principles of transparency, responsibility, partnership, innovation, integrity, adaptability, public participation, environmental responsibility, and efficiency. The main functions of the Fund are financial support and investment activities; research and consulting activities; monitoring and analysis of market conditions; infrastructure development; informational and educational activities, support of innovations and technologies, interaction with international organizations. A decentralized model of the development of the agrarian sphere has been developed under the conditions of post-war recovery and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, the main mechanism for stimulating innovative development is proposed to create priority development territories in the country, the main principles of which are defined as legal clarity, investment stimulation, infrastructure development, ensuring social stability, and environmental safety, as well as interaction with the residents and communities. A conceptual model for the development of cooperative and integration relations in the agricultural sector of the economy at the regional level is proposed, which closely cooperates with the National Fund for the Revival of Agricultural Production and Villages in the de-occupied territories, which makes it possible to rationally distribute state and grant funds, as well as fully involve them in the processes of recovery and reintegration of all forms of farming in the countryside. Ten principles for responsible quantum innovation

This paper proposes a set of guiding principles for responsible quantum innovation. The principles are organized into three functional categories: safeguarding, engaging, and advancing (SEA), and are linked to central values in responsible research and innovation (RRI). Utilizing a global equity normative framework and literature-based methodology, we connect the quantum-SEA categories to promise and perils specific to quantum technology (QT). The paper operationalizes the responsible QT framework by proposing ten actionable principles to help address the risks, challenges, and opportunities associated with the entire suite of second-generation QTs, which includes the quantum computing, sensing, simulation, and networking domains. Each quantum domain has different technology readiness levels, risks, and affordances, with sensing and simulation arguably being closest to market entrance. Our proposal aims to catalyze a much-needed interdisciplinary effort within the quantum community to establish a foundation of quantum-specific and quantum-tailored principles for responsible quantum innovation. The overarching objective of this interdisciplinary effort is to steer the development and use of QT in a direction not only consistent with a values-based society but also a direction that contributes to addressing some of society’s most pressing needs and goals.

Modern technologies in the development of higher education teachers’ professional competence

The relevance of the research. The current stage of the historical development of the world community is characterized by the acceleration of scientific, technical and social progress, the large-scale dissemination of new ideas and technologies. Therefore, the reproduction of knowledge carriedout on an innovative basis is relevant and has an increasing impact on the rate of economic growth. The problem statement. The modern education system is gradually beginning to fully use theresources of the competency-based approach. In vocational education this approach is the conceptual basis for the implementation of an innovation system. The problem of the research is to identify the features of the formation of professional competence of higher education teachers. The purpose of the article is to substantiate modern technologies for developing the professional competence of vocational education teachers to increase their readiness to train future specialists on innovative principles. The research methods used are theoretical analysis of scientific literature on the research problem; study of regulatory documents in the field of education; analysis and synthesis; systematization and generalization; survey. The results and key conclusions. The need for continuous professional development of teachers based on innovative principles and updating of the problem under consideration has been identified. The use of modern pedagogical technologies of distance learning, project-based learning and production technologies for the formation of professional competence of higher education teachers, as well as modern forms of training future qualified specialists, have been justified.

Bioreceptive Ceramic Surfaces: Material Experimentations for Responsible Research and Design Innovation in Circular Economy Transition and “Ecological Augmentation”

The world demands suitable design solutions to transition toward a sustainable production system. The concept of sustainability evolves with technology’s ability to understand and replicate nature’s logic. There is a growing need to move beyond punctual solutions towards more intricate and multi-stakeholder considerations, including preemptive assessments of impacts. This article discusses the outcomes of cross-disciplinary material experimentation at Saperi&Co Center, Sapienza University of Rome. This research focuses on enhancing ceramic surfaces through circular economy practices, making them receptive to microorganism colonization—known as bioreceptivity. Through an iterative and repetitive approach, inspired by Research Through Design and material experimentation, several experiments were carried out to study how the innovative use of organic waste in clay-based mixtures can promote bioreceptivity and the design of green surfaces for urban regeneration. The results advance our knowledge on the multiple parameters the designer must consider to transform inert surfaces such as ceramics into “ecological augmentation” devices. The article also aims to raise awareness of bioreceptivity as a practice to educate communities about a symbiotic relationship with nature, promote local economic development and circular production, and prompt reflection on cultural aspects arising from contemporary scientific and technological advancements in line with Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles.

Learning from medieval Italy: urban sustainability concepts from the heritage of hydraulic infrastructures. The cases of Venice, Siena and Bologna

PurposeFaced with the growing need to find new viable water supply models for urban areas, this article studies and maps the strategies and identifies the key criteria of sustainable development present in pioneering water supply systems in the medieval period. The main aim is to determine which of its innovative principles could be applied in present-day cities.Design/methodology/approachFrom a methodological perspective, two types of cases were established, such as water supply models for human consumption and pre-industrial hydraulic systems, all of which are located in Italy. For the first group, the cases of Venice and Siena were analysed, while for the second, in the context of the cities along the Aemilian Way, the case of Bologna was selected.FindingsFive key criteria resulted from the analysis of the cases: exploitation, self-sufficiency, maintenance, rationalisation and reuse. The said concepts were defined and contextualised within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals.Originality/valueThe Middle Ages were a historic moment in technological reinvention, before the development of modern systems of sanitation. With very limited resources, these traditional systems focused on rational use and deep cultural and geographical knowledge. This is why its recognition is of great importance today, in a time full of instabilities, with a view to the work that needs to be done for the development of more sustainable communities.

An Application of TRIZ Inventive Approach in Development Strategy into Fourth-party Logistics

Purpose: The study aims to affirm the application of TRIZ in logistics service and then develop innovative strategies for Vietnamese local logistics service providers (LSPs) to transform into fourth-party logistics (4PL) through TRIZ inventive methodology. Methodology/Approach: The integration of Savransky’s methodology into TRIZ proposals enables to identify the core correlated dependencies of selected parameters. The analyses of the theoretical background and the application of the TRIZ matrix are comprehensively conducted to create innovation for three important attributes of 4PL. Findings: The research results propose seven strategies through Savransky’s suggested steps from the analytical application of TRIZ. The established recommendations are categorised into short-term and long-term strategies and can be flexibly applied depending on the corporate growth process. Research Limitation/implication: TRIZ approach was initially constructed for solving engineering problems. As a result, several inventive principles in the contradiction matrix were not entirely appropriate to the service area. In such cases, the authors can’t apply all suggested solutions from the contradiction matrix. Originality/Value of paper: The study provides local LSPs in Vietnam with comprehensive strategies for improving their capabilities to meet the requirements of 4PLs’ power.

Can we do it together? Co-designing attentive practices with and for forced migrants in seven countries

ABSTRACT Designing feasible programmes for the attention of forced migrants’ needs is a demanding task that often relies on a group of experts at national levels. Moreover, programmes tend to be based on estimations of generic needs while migrants and fieldworkers are seldom included in the design process. Responding to the quest for a more tailored and participatory approach, we describe how attentive programmes were developed in seven countries along the migration route from the Middle East to Northern Europe. To be sensitive to local and particular needs, and to foster co-creation, we used principles of responsible research and innovation and action research. In 2019, we started with 176 migrants’ interviews, focused on detecting needs and understanding local contexts. During 2020–2022, we designed, implemented and evaluated attentive practices together with forced migrants, humanitarian agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders. Results showed that local conditions delimit the programme outcomes, but still, comprehensive conclusions could be drawn. Including migrants and fieldworkers in the process brought valuable insights and helped to challenge the top-down and nation-state centric framework of integration. We argue that collaborative methodology can produce both tailored and feasible programmes. However, the process demands time and human resources, flexibility and volunteer engagement.
