Environmental regulations, GHRM and green innovation of manufacturing enterprises: evidence from China

The contradiction between the economy and the environment is becoming more and more prominent. Green innovation is significant for Chinese manufacturing enterprises considering environmental and economic performance. Based on motivation theory and motivation crowding theory, this study aims to explore the impact of environmental regulations on green innovation of Chinese manufacturing enterprises and the mediating role of green human resource management between environmental regulations and green innovation of enterprises. Using structural equation modeling and SPSS macro, the results of the empirical analysis of 127 manufacturing enterprises in Guangdong Province, China, show that command-controlled regulation, market-incentivized regulation, and voluntary regulation positively impact enterprises’ green innovation, and green human resource management positively affects enterprises’ green innovation. Green human resource management only mediates the relationship between voluntary environmental regulation and green innovation. The study systematically reveals the driving mechanism of green innovation in Chinese manufacturing enterprises and enriches the relevant research on green innovation in manufacturing enterprises.

The Effect of Digitalization on Ambidextrous Innovation in Manufacturing Enterprises: A Perspective of Empowering and Enabling

Digital transformation has become an inevitable choice for manufacturing enterprises to sustain innovation in the digital world. This study selected a sample of Chinese provinces and A-share companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets from 2011 to 2021 to examine the relationship between regional digitalization, enterprise digitalization, and enterprise ambidextrous innovation. We found that (1) regional digitalization can promote exploitative and exploratory innovation of manufacturing enterprises. Digitalization plays an empowering effect in the promotion process. The regional digital talent reserve significantly impacts ambidextrous innovation in manufacturing enterprises more than network infrastructure construction, digital technology development, and digital technology application; (2) Enterprise digitalization can promote exploitative and exploratory innovation of manufacturing enterprises. Digitalization plays an enabling impact in this promotion process; (3) Regional digitalization can promote the level of manufacturing enterprise digitalization. In promoting enterprise ambidextrous innovation, digitalization can realize the transformation from regional digitalization empowering to enterprise digitalization enabling. The regional digital talent reserve significantly impacts manufacturing enterprise digitalization more than network infrastructure construction, digital technology development, and digital technology application; (4) The impact of regional and enterprise digitalization on exploratory innovation in large-scale manufacturing enterprises is more significant, and large-scale enterprises are better able to transform from digitalization empowering to enabling. The conclusions of this study have specific theoretical and practical significance for revealing the relationship between digitalization and enterprise ambidextrous innovation and then promoting regional digitalization development, manufacturing enterprise digital transformation, and innovation development.

Big data application, factor allocation, and green innovation in Chinese manufacturing enterprises

Green innovation is key to promoting the manufacturing industry's green development and transformation. One way to promote green innovation in manufacturing enterprises can be the deep integration of big data. Using data on listed Chinese manufacturing enterprises from 2014 to 2019, we examine the impacts of big data on green innovation and the mechanisms underlying this relationship. Using a panel fixed effects regression model, we find that big data significantly and positively affects green innovation. Internal mechanism analyses reveal that big data improves the manufacturing industry's green innovation by improving the factor allocation efficiency for both labor and capital. The heterogeneity analysis indicates that the promotional effect of big data on green innovation is more prominent in private enterprises than in state-owned enterprises. The government should formulate big data application policies, and provide incentives for the deep integration of big data in manufacturing enterprises to accelerate green innovation.

Promote Green Innovation in Manufacturing Enterprises in the Aspect of Government Subsidies in China.

Green innovation is vital for manufacturing enterprises to achieve a balance between economic, environmental and social benefits. This paper empirically investigates the mechanisms of government subsidies, R&D investment and public participatory environmental regulation on green innovation in manufacturing enterprises, selecting a sample of 1308 manufacturing firms listed on Chinese A-shares from 2010–2019. The results show that government subsidies can significantly promote green innovation in manufacturing enterprises, with private enterprises being more pronounced. R&D investment plays a mediating role in green innovation in manufacturing enterprises, while public participatory environmental regulation has a negative impact. The moderating effect of public participatory environmental regulation on government subsidies is different on different green patents, with a more negative effect on green invention patents than on green utility model patents. Public participatory environmental regulation has a negative moderating effect on the green innovation of state-owned manufacturing enterprises while having no significant effect on private manufacturing enterprises.

Study on Supporting Platform and Working Mechanism for Service Innovation of Manufacturing Enterprises

At present, the world economy has entered a service economy, represented by post-industrial society, consumers have become the key link in the market, service has become an important factor of the core competitiveness for manufacturing enterprises, and service innovation as an independent innovation has become increasingly important in the manufacturing enterprises development. Service innovation of manufacturing companies needs a wider range of knowledge coming from technology, customer and market, through analysis of influencing factors that may affect manufacturing enterprises’ implementation of customer-oriented service innovative, this paper explored the needs, process and characteristics of service innovation, built a customer-oriented platform of service innovation, and described its working mechanism. Wish to provide useful lessons for promoting change of economic growth pattern, promoting the growth of corporate profits and upgrading our manufacturing.
