The effects of social network and environmental risk perception on farmers' willingness to participate in the management of black-smelling water

Based on the field research data in Shaanxi area, the binary logit model and ISM model were organically combined to study the influencing factors and their hierarchical structure affecting farmers' willingness to participate in the management of black-smell water from the perspective of social network and environmental risk perception. The results of the study show that: blood relationship network, karma relationship network, geographic relationship network, environmental risk factual perception, environmental risk cause perception and environmental risk loss perception have positive influence on farmers' willingness to participate, geographic relationship network, blood relationship network and karma relationship network are the most direct and superficial influencing factors, and environmental risk cause perception is located in the second tier, environmental risk factual perception is located in the third tier, and environmental risk loss perception is the most direct and superficial influencing factor, while environmental risk cause perception is located in the third tier, and environmental risk loss perception is located in the third tier. Perceived environmental risk loss is the lowest and most fundamental influence factor, which will act on the upper-level factors. We empirically analyze the influence of social network and environmental risk perception on farmers' willingness to participate in the management of black-smell water. At the same time, based on the results of ISM model, the hypothesis that social network may play a mediating role is proposed, and the hypothesis is verified. In view of this, it is necessary to establish a governance system with the collaboration of the whole society and the participation of the whole public, and to enhance the willingness of farmers to participate by strengthening the social network and farmers' perception of environmental pollution.

From Burning Extremal Balanced Spiders Into Properties for Generalization to All Trees

Graph burning is a discrete-time deterministic process that can be interpreted as a model for spreading influence in social networks. The burning number conjecture says that the burning number of any connected graph of order m2 is at most m and was proven to hold asymptotically recently. Since the early days, spiders have garnered a significant amount of attention. Not only were spiders shown to satisfy the conjecture, but also determining the burning numbers for spiders was an NP-complete problem. Furthermore, Tan and Teh obtained a tight upper bound beyond m2 on the order of a spider to guarantee its burnability in m rounds, and, surprisingly, it depends only on the number of arms, with balanced spiders as exceptions for small m. Inspired by these works, we first study the largest attainable order for balanced spiders, given the number of arms and the burning number. The second half of this work lays the foundation for generalization to all trees. As highlights of this work, we obtain some principal general properties on the associated neighborhoods corresponding to any optimal burning sequence of the extremal trees with a given burning number. Finally, we apply the principles to determine the orders of the extremal trees with two branch vertices and conclude by discussing how to extend our study.

The Influence of Social Networks During Study Abroad: Acquiring Non-Standard Varieties

Over the past 20 years, researchers have shown increasing interest in social network analysis to understand second language acquisition (SLA), especially in a study abroad (SA) context. To date, few longitudinal studies have examined the joint evolution of the learners’ sociolinguistic competence and socialisation during the SA. By shifting the focus from a global view of the study abroad context to a deep analysis of the composition and structure of each learner’ social networks in the host country, we aim to provide a better understanding of the development of sociolinguistic competence in SLA (Gautier & Chevrot, 2015). We apply the sociological concept of a social network to sociolinguistics. To explore the sociolinguistic competence of 29 learners, we focus on two well-described sociolinguistic variables in French: the optional liaison and the negative ne. We also gathered data on their social networks and provided a deep analysis of each participant’s network. We implemented a quantitative approach to analyse and depict the social networks of the learners. Statistically significant relationships were found between changes in the learners’ personal network and their use of the two sociolinguistic variables. The development of L2-oriented social networks (in terms of size, speaking time, and frequency) over nine months of the SA helps learners to reduce their use of standard variants. Conversely, the development of L1-oriented social networks during the SA is associated with greater use of standard variants.

Research on the Relationship Between Structural Characteristics of Corporate Social Networks and Risk-Taking Levels: Evidence from China

The complex market environment places unprecedented pressure on business decision-making processes. Effectively utilizing existing social resources to establish risk prevention mechanisms and accurately assess an enterprise’s risk-taking capacity has become a core issue for corporate survival and development. This paper examines 1810 listed companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen A-shares markets from 2010 to 2022, constructing comprehensive social networks based on multiple corporate governance entities. It investigates the influence and transmission mechanisms of corporate social networks on risk-taking levels. The results reveal that (1) enhanced corporate social network centrality, structural holes, and connectivity significantly and positively affect corporate risk-taking levels; (2) information transparency and corporate governance quality serve as important mediating mechanisms through which social networks influence corporate risk-taking; (3) significant heterogeneity exists regarding executives’ backgrounds and industry attributes—specifically, in firms with executives possessing financial backgrounds and in high-tech industry enterprises, network characteristics play a more pronounced role in promoting risk-taking. This research not only enriches the literature on factors influencing enterprise risk-taking but also provides theoretical foundations and practical insights for improving corporate risk management capabilities through optimized social network structures.

TECNOLOGIA E NUTRIÇÃO: A EVOLUÇÃO DA SAÚDE ALIMENTAR NA ERA DIGITAL

The use of technology is increasing daily in people’s lives and can be used to facilitate improvements in medical care in general. In nutrition, technology can be employed as a companion to help promote new eating habits, behavioral changes, and help with healthier and more sustainable food choices. Tools such as the internet, software, applications, and AI are already being used as a vehicle by health professionals. The purpose of this literature review is to describe and analyze the perception of the influence and impact of social networks and digital technologies in health and nutrition today. There are currently around 3.8 billion social media users around the world (We are Social, 2020, p. 77). In this environment, there is circulation of many different and easily accessible information. Therefore, it is relevant to assess whether current and future nutritionists are able to distinguish and correctly use this information in their own daily lives, in their process of building knowledge and passing on accurate information. Software and apps have simplified food tracking, providing personalized nutritional information and facilitating communication between professionals and patients. Artificial intelligence is used for analysis of large sets of nutritional data, helping to identify patterns and trends that can influence public health policies and clinical practices. This dissertation aims to contribute to the study of the role of general technologies in the area of health and nutrition. The review took place in articles and books that were consulted on the PUBMED, SciELO and Google Scholar websites, in order to maintain the proper level of understanding on the subject.

Influence of social networks and environmental factors on older adults' regular walking.

Few studies have confirmed the influence of social networks and environmental factors on the regular walking of older adults in the community. This study aimed to identify factors influencing regular walking, focusing on social networks and the walkability of the neighborhood environment. This study is a secondary analysis of a cross-sectional survey conducted with 840 community-dwelling older adults. Multiple logistic regressions were performed to determine the factors influencing regular walking. Older women are 1.58 times more likely to walk regularly than men. For older men, the likelihood of regular walking increased 1.56 times as their frequency of contact with friends and neighbors increased. For older women, the probability of regular walking increased by 1.39 times when street connectivity improved. Habitual walking probabilities were lowered by 1.45 times for older women when the terrain was hilly. Health care providers should consider their social networks and environmental factors while developing strategies to promote regular walking in older adults.

What Changed Your Mind? Influencers of Older Adults Changing Decisions About Aging-In-Place Versus Long-Term Care.

As individuals experience age-related changes, such as cognitive decline or hospitalizations, their ability to live independently at home may be impacted. Decision-making and planning are essential in order to support successful aging-in-place (AIP), which is defined as continuing to live in one's home and community. Despite making plans at one single time-point, prior research has demonstrated that decision-making among older adults is not stagnant. The objective of this qualitative study was to understand what influences older adults to change their plans about AIP versus living in long-term care (LTC) settings. We analyzed a subset of the PlanYourLifespan study subjects (a longitudinal cohort study of community dwelling older adults) who have shown a fluctuation in their AIP/LTC decisions over a 6-month period and surveyed what influenced their decisions to change. Decisions related to support needed in the case of a hospitalization and Alzheimer's disease/memory loss (rehabilitation preferences, caregiver support, living preferences, and LTC facilities) were assessed. Three investigators individually coded open-ended survey responses to identify emerging themes using constant comparative analysis with triangulation of themes. Of the 293 PYL study subjects, 134 expressed a change to at least one of their decisions. Through a qualitative analysis of survey responses, five overarching themes emerged that influenced fluctuating decision-making: (1) personal health experience, (2) health experience of a loved one, (3) increased contemplation, (4) social support network influences, and (5) denying change. This study was the first to examine the factors that influence fluctuating AIP/LTC decision-making among older adults. The key influencers identified highlight the importance of ongoing discussions to revisit AIP/LTC planning in the case of changing or unexpected life events. Having a strong understanding of what influences seniors in their AIP/LTC decision-making processes will enable us to include these factors and people in decision-making discussions.

An individual’s body image, reflecting individual style, health and even social status, determines his/her selfperception and the perception of others. One of the important questions posed by many researchers is what components influence satisfaction with one’s own body and how the attitude towards one’s body can further influence one’s wellbeing and mental state. The purpose of this article is to provide a systematic review of current research over the past 5 years that examines the relationship between satisfaction with one’s body image and psychological well-being. The scientific significance of the review is to summarize the current data and research in this area, for further development of a plan to conduct an experimental study in Kazakhstan on a sample of women of middle adulthood. When writing the paper, the method of theoretical analysis of scientific literature was used, including systematization and generalization of current data on the topic of body image and psychological well-being. The results of this article are conclusions about the close links between psychological well-being and body image, the influence of body image satisfaction on the emergence of eating disorders, as well as the influence of social networks on dissatisfaction with body image. The value of this study is in the targeted study of the relationship between psychological well-being and body image. We plan to use the findings to plan further research on body image in a sample of middleaged women of the first period (21–35 years old) in Kazakhstan in order to improve the effectiveness of psychological help to this clinical group.

Influence of social networks on the mental health of university students in Huancayo, Peru

<span>Since the appearance of signed social networks (SSNs), their use has increased steadily among young people, not only in terms of the number of users but also in terms of the time they devote to managing the platforms, a situation that may be influencing their behavior. This study aimed to analyze the influence of the use of social networks (SNs) on the mental health of young university students. For this purpose, a quantitative, basic, and correlational study was carried out. We worked with a sample of 361 undergraduate students in health careers at a university in Huancayo. The PERMA-Profiler scale for mental health and the brief social network addiction questionnaire were used as data collection instruments to evaluate the use of SNs. The results indicate that there is a statistically significant influence of the use of SNs on the mental health of students, which explains a variability of 53.5% to 79.9%, according to the values of the Nagelkerke Pseudo X2 calculation for SNs. This suggests that the use of SNs hurts students’ mental health.</span>

Characteristics of strategic changes in quality industrial business development

Producing a quality product today is a very complex issue that requires the implementation of a successful managerial business philosophy. This means that a modern and attractive product label with a clear message should be designed. Research shows that industrial business and production activity must form a homogeneous system that cannot function successfully without integration with national and international standards that ensure high quality products and services. How to organize teams for efficient company work is the most important job and task of management. The goal is to implement operational and efficient production based on the incorporation of modern marketing, especially when presenting products to the public, that is, through successful product advertising. Theory and practice show that teams are important for the realization of efficient business processes that provide the necessary quality business variables that are complementary to today's market requirements. Consequently, positive expectations are ensured through feedback. it is effectively possible to find out what the consumer's reactions are to the given variables incorporated in the product itself. According to the research data, an important characteristic of the business operations of today's industries is related to the connection with international trade chains that ensure the creation of space for greater perspectives of each industry, then the creation of greater opportunities for export, for more effective monitoring of changes due to global trends, as well as a greater level of knowledge, abilities and the skill of management to more quickly and efficiently develop the right values, norms, and to more efficiently harmonize its operations with market expectations. Bearing in mind the fact that the economic system at the global level is determined by three important categories: external environment, internal environment and strategic development, it is necessary to implement and improve the development of all relevant factors that make up the structure of important determinants without which today it would not be possible to achieve a quality product, success and profit of the company. That is why it is important to analyze the important characteristics of strategic changes that determine the development of quality in industries, economic changes, management, the influence of social networks, environmental issues, etc. on the market business environment at the national or global level.

THE LIMITS OF TOLERANCE: COLLISIONS OF THE CANCEL CULTURE

While philosophers have been studying the phenomenon of tolerance for quite a long time and fruitfully, cancel culture has aroused philosophical interest relatively recently. The article reveals the essential connection between the need to make exceptions to the tolerance guideline in order to achieve social justice and the appeal to the cancel culture as inherent in a modern democratic society, in which there are developed information and communication technologies and the corresponding power of influence of social networks. The ethical and social positions of both those who support the cancel culture and those against whom it is directed are analyzed. The need for an involved study of the situation of oppressed social groups is specified in order to achieve an epistemological position sufficient for adequate ethical judgments regarding the parties to the conflict in the situation of cancellation. It is revealed that the partial success of identity politics is due to the fact that it begins to use the cancel culture to stigmatize opponents and apply the principle of toxicity to those who are not direct perpetrators of a gross violation of social justice. It is proven that the cancel culture can excessively exceed the limits of tolerance and in this case cause a counter-reaction with the demand to cancel those who abuse the cancel culture. It is argued that within the framework of its justified and adequate application, not only does cancel culture act as an effective tool for restoring social justice, it is also capable of generating socially beneficial collective ecstatic states and facilitating the creation of constructive, emotionally rich shared experiences. There is noted that the cancel culture as a joint proactive public position contributes to the development of civil society and needs its institutionalization for its further normalization.

Processed food intake assortativity in the personal networks of older adults

Existing research indicates that dietary habits spread through social networks, yet the impact on populations in Eastern Europe, particularly in rural areas, is less understood. We examine the influence of personal networks on the consumption of high-salt processed foods among individuals in rural Romania, with a specific focus on older adults. Using a personal network analysis, we analyze data from 83 participants of varying ages and their social contacts through multi-level regression models. The inclusion of participants across a wider age range allows us to capture the broader dynamics of social networks, reflecting the intergenerational nature of rural communities. Our findings reveal assortativity in dietary habits, indicating that individuals cluster with others who share similar food consumption patterns. Our results underscore the need for public health interventions that account for the influence of social networks on dietary behavior, as addressing high salt intake and its associated health risks may require considering the broader social context beyond older adults. The study contributes to understanding the social determinants of dietary behaviors and highlights the role of personal networks in shaping food choices in vulnerable populations.

Remain or return? The effect of social network and engagement on settlement intentions among high skilled migrants in Northeast China.

China is transitioning from an immigrant-exporting country to an immigrant-importing country. To attract and retain global, it is necessary to analyze the factors influencing the settlement intentions of high skilled migrants to formulate policy support and tailor the management of transnational communities to their characteristics. This study used the Changchun sample from the Survey on Foreign Residents in China (SFRC 2017-2019) to examine the influence of social networks and social engagement on settlement intentions. It also considered differences in the classification of social networks and engagement strength, as well as classification by country of origin. This study identified that social networks and social engagement in the destination country play an essential role in the willingness of high skilled migrants to stay in Changchun. Additionally, international enclaves negatively affected their willingness to stay. Furthermore, the relative strength of migrants' social networks and social engagement in the destination country exerted varying effects on the intensity of their settlement intentions. That is, using high skilled migrants with strong Chinese social networks and social engagement as the reference group, relying solely on a strong social network in China while lacking social engagement significantly reduced their willingness to settle. A weak social networks and low social engagement also significantly decreased their willingness to settle. Moreover, settlement intentions of the high skilled migrants differed significantly by country of origin. If we selected the same reference term, the willingness of expatriates from developed countries to stay decreased significantly. In the sections concerning comparison and robustness checks, national data were employed (SFRC 2019). Highly skilled expatriates in Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Yiwu demonstrated the synergistic interaction between ethnic communities and work units (danwei), whereas those in Changchun exhibited a certain uniqueness, embedding themselves in Chinese society through their own human capital and danwei affiliations.

Efficacy of Social Networks in Promoting the Green Production Behaviors of Chinese Farmers: An Empirical Study

The green production practices of farmers are essential for sustainable agricultural development. However, studies have mostly overlooked the social factors affecting farmers’ decisions regarding green production behaviors (GPB). Furthermore, the pathways and mechanisms through which social networks modify these behaviors have not been fully validated. Therefore, by examining 1203 farmers from China’s main grain-producing regions, this study aims to empirically investigate both the direct and indirect impacts of social networks on farmers’ GPB, thereby furthering relevant research. First, family social networks in rural areas markedly enhanced farmer engagement in GPB. After assessing the endogeneity issues associated with farmers’ self-selection behaviors using propensity score matching, this effect was found to substantially persist. Analysis of the indirect impact revealed that social networks primarily facilitated farmers’ adoption of green production through channels such as information acquisition, interactive learning, and service support. Second, heterogeneity analyses based on generational differences and crop types demonstrated a distinct, promotional impact of social networks on both “middle-generation” and “older-generation” farmers. Moreover, a comparison between grain crop farmers and cash crop farmers determined the more substantial influence of social networks on encouraging grain crop farmer GPB. Overall, this study emphasizes that rural China’s social networks, especially clan-based ones, can successfully nurture agricultural sustainability by accelerating the propagation of green technologies while offering suitable environments for elderly farmers to “learn by observing” and “learn by doing”. Relevant departments should pay attention to and make full use of farmers’ social network relations in the process of promoting farmers’ adoption of green production behavior and further promoting the green development of agriculture.

Social Networks and Household Electricity Reliability: Evidence From Africa's Household Survey

ABSTRACTReliable electricity is crucial for enhancing household living conditions and ensuring sustainable national development. Social networks, which influence household behavioral decisions, significantly contribute to the acquisition and reliability of household electricity. Based on data from rounds 3–8 of the Afrobarometer, this study investigated the influence of social networks on household electricity reliability in African countries. The results revealed that social networks markedly improved household electricity reliability. The analysis further identifies that these improvement effects are achieved through increasing employment opportunities, improving living conditions, and a greater willingness to participate in collective action. Moreover, social networks have a stronger influence than main grid supplies on the reliability of alternative electricity sources, with a notably higher impact coefficient in the North African region than elsewhere. The positive effects of social networks on electricity reliability are also more pronounced among those who have informal rather than formal education. These findings suggest that policies aimed at bolstering social networks should be implemented to promote household electricity reliability.
