Dear Readers, It is with my great honor and privilege to start my two-year term of duty as Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems—Part II: Express Briefs (TCAS-II). I am very thankful to the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) for giving me this opportunity. During the last two years, I have been very fortunate to work as Associate Editor-in-Chief (AEiC) of TCAS-II together with Professor José M. de la Rosa, who has set the bar very high for me! I would like to begin this first issue of TCAS-II in 2022 by expressing my most sincere and warm gratitude to Professor José M. de la Rosa for his great job, dedication, and guidance during all this time working together. I learned a lot from him!

Guest Editorial: Special Issue Based on the 12th Edition of the Latin American Symposium on Circuits and Systems

The Latin American Symposium on Circuits and Systems (LASCAS) is the flagship conference in Latin America (IEEE Regions 9) by the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS). This conference contributes since more than a decade to its history by reporting the latest research results and innovations across the themes within the scope of the society, including analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics, signal processing, power electronics, communication theory, sensors, circuit theory, and nonlinear circuits and systems.

Guest Editorial Special Issue on the IEEE International NEWCAS Conference 2020

This Special Issue is a selection of the best articles presented at the 18th IEEE International NEWCAS Conference (NEWCAS) 2020 that was held in Montreal, Canada, on June 16–19, 2020. As an Interregional flagship conference of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS), this conference covers a wide spectrum of topics, research, and practice in the fields of circuits and systems, and offers an international forum for exchanging ideas and results.

Guest Editorial Special Issue on the 2021 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems

This special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems—Part II: Express Briefs (TCAS-II) continues the successful tradition of the co-publication initiative started two years ago by the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) to publish a selection of the best papers accepted for presentation at the IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), held this year in Daegu, South Korea, on May 23–25. As TCAS-II only publishes 5-page briefs, and hence both conference and journal versions of selected works would be largely overlapped, the papers included in this issue represent the only record published in IEEE Xplore and they will not appear in the Proceedings of IEEE ISCAS. Similar to other IEEE Societies, IEEE CASS pretends to shift the role of IEEE conferences towards networking events as well as a scientific discussion opportunity, rather than putting the emphasis on the conference paper publication itself.

Special Issue on the IEEE Asia Pacific Conference of Circuits and Systems 2019 and the IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems 2019

This Special Issue is a collection of selected papers presented at the IEEE Asia Pacific Conference of Circuits and Systems (APCCAS) 2019 that was held in Bangkok, Thailand, November 11–14, 2019, and the IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (ICECS) 2019 that was held in Genova, Italy, on November 27–29, 2019. As the flagship conferences of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) in IEEE Regions 10 and 8, respectively, these conferences welcome contributions across the themes within the scope of the Society, including analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics, signal processing, power electronics, communication theory, sensors, circuit theory, and nonlinear circuits and systems.

Introduction to the Special Issue on the 2nd IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Circuits and Systems (AICAS 2020)

This issue of the IEEE Journal on Emerging and Selected Topics in Circuits and Systems (JETCAS) includes the highlighted papers from the 2nd IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Circuits and Systems (AICAS 2020), which was originally planned to be held at the Centro Congressi Porto Antico in Genoa, Italy, on March 23–25, 2020. However, due to the difficult pandemic situation that the world was living during those days, the conference was postponed to August 31–September 4, 2020, and was finally held as a fully virtual event. Despite those difficulties, the conference was a great success in terms of participation which demonstrated the consolidation of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) community interested in the research and advances of new circuits and systems paradigms and hardware platforms that can boost a new generation of more efficient Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems and may enlarge the AI application scenarios and performances. The AI revolution is promising to incorporate the AI computing power to all industrial and social sectors. To make this trend possible, new computing platforms suited to efficiently support AI emerging algorithms, systems, and applications in different scenarios (from cloud servers to edge and autonomous devices) should be developed at a parallel pace. The IEEE AICAS conference has appeared and it is being consolidated as an international forum to communicate state-of-the-art research, innovation, and development results and advances in AI circuits and systems. It is an ideal forum to join efforts and exchange experiences between different international communities from academia and industry boosting the progress of AI circuits and systems.

Guest Editorial: Special Issue on Selected Papers From IEEE BioCAS 2019

The eleven papers in this special section were presented at the 2019 IEEE Biomedical Circuits and Systems Conference (BioCAS) in Nara, Japan, from October 17–19, 2019. Similar to previous years, BioCAS 2019 was jointly sponsored by the IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) Society and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology (EMB) Society.

Two Successful ACTS Programs Are Held in China [Chapters

Encouraged by the success of the IEEE Advanced CMOS Technology School (ACTS) for 2017 and 2018, the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) Beijing Chapter launched ACTS Summer School 2019 on 5 August of last year. ACTS is a joint activity supported by the SSCS and IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CAS). Student members of the two sponsoring Societies had the opportunity to attend the school free of charge. IEEE ACTS Summer 2019 was sponsored by GalaxyCore. Lecture topics focused on millimeterwave (mm-wave) wireless networks, power management ICs, bioelectronic systems, body channel communication (BCC), and smart sensors. The general cochairs were Milin Zhang, Tsinghua University, Beijing, and Liyuan Liu, Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing.

Inaugural Issue of the IEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems: Welcome Note

IT IS with great pleasure that I welcome you to the inaugural issue of the IEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems (OJ-CAS). This is a new gold fully open access journal, spanning the full scope of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society’s field of interest, covering the theory, analysis, design, tools, and implementation of circuits and systems. This includes their theoretical foundations, applications, and architectures, as well as circuits and systems implementation of algorithms for signal and information processing. OJ-CAS has a single issue a year, consisting of online articles only, promptly accessible through <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">IEEE Xplore</i> as soon as they are ready for publication.

Guest Editorial Special Issue on the 2019 ISICAS: A CAS Journal Track Symposium

This special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems—Part II: Express Briefs (TCAS-II) includes papers presented at the International Symposium on Integrated Circuits and Systems (ISICAS), held in Venice, Italy, on 29–30 August 2019. This is the second edition of this journal track symposium as part of the initiative of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS), started in 2018. The symposium is focused on original works reporting hybrid, System-in-Package (SiP) or System-on-Chip (SoC) implementations of circuits and systems with state-of-the-art experimental results.

This issue represents selected papers from three Regional Flagship Conferences of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society in 2017 and 2018: International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (ICECS) 2017 held in Batumi, Georgia, on 5–8 December 2017; Latin American Symposium on Circuits and Systems (LASCAS) 2018 held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on 25–28 February 2018 and International NEWCAS Conference held in Montreal, Canada on 24–27 June 2018. The authors of the best papers presented at these conferences were invited to contribute to this special issue. It includes 19 papers across the technical topics relevant to the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society: analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits, computer-aided design, power electronics, signal processing and circuits and systems for communications.
