Craft Beer in Food Science: A Review and Conceptual Framework

Craft beer represents a dynamic and creative segment within the food and beverage industry, emphasizing quality, aroma, health, sustainability, locality, and tailored brewing techniques. This paper explores the multifaceted roles of craft beer’s production and consumption growth dynamics. Both a bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review were conducted on a sample of 239 scientific papers to provide an in-depth evaluation of the main characteristics and influences that craft beer has in the field of food science. Based on the identified roles of craft beer/breweries in the selected sample of literature, a conceptual framework was constructed to serve as a guideline for policymakers and different stakeholders. In this way, our findings enrich the existing literature and contribute to a better understanding of craft beer production and surroundings, which can be beneficial for promoting sustainable policies and innovative strategies for the growth of small/micro-producers and entrepreneurs in this niche market. Furthermore, this evidence can stimulate clear and ethical information to enhance consumers’ knowledge and agendas to strengthen the identity of local communities.

Analisis Perubahan Sosial Dan Budaya Masyarakat Pegunungan Sebagai Dampak Dari Globalisasi

Globalization is a phenomenon that involves connections between nations in various aspects of life, such as changing the economics and technology, social structures and cultural values throughout the world. These changes can be seen in social relationship pattern between others that occur in Indonesian villages, the local traditions that were previously collective and deep are changed becoming individualism through the media and global connectivity. Globalization causes various problems in the field of culture, for example: loss of the original culture of a region or village, the erosion of cultural values, decreased sense of nationalism and patriotism, loss of kinship and mutual relationship, loss of self-confidence, lifestyles that are not in accordance with customs. So that education can become a driving force for positive change without eliminating the cultural identity of local communities. The approach used in this research is a qualitative with phenomenology type. This research is located in Gununggeni village, Probolinggo district. The results of this research explained that there have been significant changes in Gununggeni Village as the impact of globalization and modernization which changed various aspects of people's lives, including lifestyle, values and economic structure. This change includes in fashion, food, technology, and social values. The use of mobile phones access to social media, and the changes in business infrastructure are strong indicators of modernization in the village. Even though there is adaptation to global trends, traditional values such as mutual relationship with other and togetherness are still strongly maintained in Gununggeni Village. This is one of social change complexity taking place, where some of traditional values are still exist, but while others becoming change.

Amplifying local identity while capitalizing on the assets of globalization

ABSTRACT The characteristics of a strong local identity and place attachment are revealed, drawing upon a systematic review of the scholarly literature. Then, drawing upon yet another literature review, a summary of both positive and negative effects of globalization on local communities is presented. The argument is made that communities with strong local identities are more capable of maximizing potential benefits from globalization and minimizing the negative impacts, or disbenefits, of globalization. A structural model of self-determination theory is then presented, with specific insights about how to reinforce local identity by responding to core human needs among individuals that form a community. The paper concludes with a posing of nine essential questions that should be reflected upon by community members as they design a process to proactively capture a desired flow of benefits from globalization that form recursive reinforcement of strong local community identity.

Public Space Semiotics: Reading Visual Language in City Park Design

This research explores the semiotic dimensions of public space, specifically focusing on visual language in urban park design. The main aim of this research is to understand how visual elements in city parks can be interpreted as signs that create meaning in the context of public space. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The results of this research reveal that urban park designs that utilize a semiotic approach in analyzing design elements can create spatial experiences that are rich in meaning for visitors. The use of local and traditional symbols, plants native to the region, as well as modern or innovative architectural elements provide an additional dimension that goes beyond the purely physical aspects. Design that accommodates community diversity, pays attention to functionality, and shows concern for environmental sustainability creates public spaces that are inclusive and relevant to community needs. Thus, a semiotic approach not only helps understand the meaning behind urban park design, but also becomes a valuable guide for designing open spaces that are more meaningful and closely connected to the values and cultural identity of local communities.

Potencjał dziedzictwa kulturowego Kalisza lokacyjnego

The Potential of the Cultural Heritage of the Kalisz Location The aim of the article is to show the potential of cultural heritage in the founding area of location Kalisz as a factor in the city’s development. It presents concepts related to cultural heritage, its protection and dissemination, as well as the positive impact it has on shaping the identity of local communities, which can derive many benefits, both intangible and material, from contact with monuments. Awareness of these values translates into the economic development of the city, which in turn becomes a premise for the protection of monuments and further education about them. The article will discuss monuments of medieval chronology located in the very center of location Kalisz, once a location city surrounded by walls. The following will be analyzed in terms of the attractiveness and potential of activities related to the dissemination of knowledge about cultural heritage: city walls and Dorotka’s Tower, the first three churches in Kalisz: the Franciscan church of Saint Stanislaus, the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas and the sanctuary of Saint Joseph, and the Town Hall and its multimedia exhibition.

From Heritage to Identity: The Role of City Authenticity in Shaping Local Community Identity and Cultural Preservation

This comprehensive study aims to investigate the role of urban heritage authenticity in shaping citizen identity, with a specific focus on historic cities. By examining the relationship between the perceived authenticity of urban heritage and citizen identity, this research sheds light on the significance of authenticity in interpreting cities' historical evolution and identity. The study employs a three-dimensional measure of urban identity, encompassing cognitive, affective, and evaluative aspects, to establish a connection between urban identity and citizen participation in local initiatives through personal and social norms. To comprehensively explore the impact of city authenticity on citizen identity formation, the research utilises a combination of survey questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. Three prominent historic cities also serve as case studies: Kampung Kauman in Surakarta, Kampung Laweyan in Surakarta, and Kampung Trusmi in Cirebon. This study contributes to our comprehensive understanding of the role of urban heritage authenticity in shaping citizen identity. The research emphasises the significance of authenticity in interpreting the historical evolution and identity of cities, showcasing its influence on citizens' perceptions, engagement in local initiatives, and overall sense of place. The case studies are practical examples of how authenticity fosters community identity and cultural heritage preservation. The findings of this study provide valuable insights for urban planners, policymakers, and community stakeholders, guiding their efforts to promote and preserve the authentic character of historic cities.

Space-consciousness layered model as a regeneration approach for rural industrial heritage integrating local planning: a case study on Shecun village in Nanjing, china

ABSTRACT Rural industrial heritage reflects the ongoing changes in natural environmental, socio-economic, and cultural historical processes in the countryside. In the context of urbanization, the study, conservation, and reuse of rural industrial heritage have become necessary to consolidate the local community identity and promote rural development. This study aims at establishing an intervention tool with general applicability to regenerate rural industrial heritage while integrating local sustainable development. Through a diagrammatic analysis of the natural and artificial environment, this paper combines three aspects via a layered approach: landscape analysis, urban morphology, and spatial cognition. A layered model of rural industrial heritage regeneration is established, with space and consciousness as its core. The empirical study, using the example of the Shecun lime kiln, demonstrates that the spatial-consciousness layered model (SCLM) clearly explains the core roles of transforming material elements as spatial power and the evolution of cognitive elements as consciousness power in the regeneration of rural industrial heritage. It is a systemic model with adaptable and sustainable analysis. SCLM not only provides indicative strategies but serves as a management tool for the regeneration practices of rural industrial heritage.

Understanding old herbal secrets: The renaissance of traditional medicinal plants beyond the twenty classic species?

The use of traditional medicinal plants plays an important role especially in remote rural and marginalized landscapes at different latitudes. In the development of nature conservation strategies based on local knowledge and sustainable resource management, medicinal herbs have been hypothesized to be cultural key stone species. Environmental education is a crucial driver for fostering environmental literacy and preserving local knowledge across generations. We conducted semi-structured interviews with stakeholders in the Autonomous Province of Bozen-South Tyrol (N Italy) to gain insights into, and reflections on, the cultural value of traditional medicinal plants and their interplay within the local landscape, nature conservation and their role in environmental education and knowledge transfer across generations. We also used a combination of purposive and snowball sampling to identify relevant actors. The different voices collected in the study clearly highlight the role of medicinal herbs in healthcare, for cultural identity of local communities and demonstrate a growing commercial market niche that maintains the local economy and services, including widespread offers related to environmental education, that have not, unfortunately, been used yet in the formal curricula of local schools. The latter is crucial for a holistic approach taking medicinal plants as an ideal vehicle to connect especially children with nature and history of South Tyrol, strengthening health education and overall environmental literacy, including species knowledge. However, the revival of herbal medicine and related knowledge do not prevent the continuous loss of local traditional knowledge regarding medicinal plants, recipes and use. More species and their uses are being forgotten due to superficialisation of knowledge and of mainstreaming and homogenization of the global market of herbal medicine. Safeguarding the natural and cultural treasures of South Tyrol for future generations is in the hands of the local communities.

A strategy for the design of a cultural tourist route. Case study of the city of Tlemcen in Algeria

Cultural tourist routes enhance the identity of local communities and stimulate the traditional economic activities of any region. The present article aims to analyze the cultural tourist routes that were proposed in 2011 during the event “Tlemcen, capital of Islamic culture” in Algeria. Unfortunately, these routes were not realized. For this, a survey was carried out with civil servant representatives, who were active in 2011 in the Tourist and Cultural Administration of the city, using semi‑structured interviews and questionnaires for the design of these routes. The primary purpose is to highlight the main causes of the observed failure and to propose instead a protocol that guarantees the conception of any cultural tourist route. The findings allowed us to create a collaborative interactive map via Google My Maps which, in turn, facilitated the achievement of a collective consensus for the proposal for a cultural tourist route in the city of Tlemcen.

Introduction. The emerging paradigm of socio- cultural development of the Russian Federation’s local communities is conditioned by the trans- formation of production and economic practices based on the concept of a multi-layered economy and multifunctionality emerging under the pressure of globalization on the development of localities. The desire to preserve and maintain socio-cultural traditions, customs, and values is an axiological guideline for developing local communities. The growing social vulnerability of communities creates certain conditions for losing identity, ability for self-identification, and leads to the destruction of socio-cultural identity. The purpose of the study. The article analyzes the problem of socio-cultural evolution when modern- izing production and economic activity generating factors causing the transformation of culture and sociality of local communities, thus determining the processes of integration and disintegration of socioculture. Methods. Sociocultural analysis provides an op- portunity to reveal the main directions of sociocul- tural development of local communities, to explain the essence of interaction, mutual influence and unification of local communities into an interactive socio-cultural space with compatible formations and components. Scientific novelty of the research. The author dis- plays the models of culture and sociality transfor- mation reflecting the processes of modification of the local communities’ lifestyle that determine the transition from the paradigm of sustainable tradi- tional socio-cultural development to the paradigm of innovative transformations. Results. The problem of sociocultural integration and disintegration is associated with globalization processes that generate contradictions of globality and locality. The processes of integration/disin- tegration of the local communities’ sociocultural development are conditioned by the culture and sociality evolution of the constructing model of socio-cultural behavior. The pressure of globaliza- tion plunges the socio-cultural space into a state of diffusion, instability. Historically established traditions, norms, values are transformed into intermediate forms that help to adapt to new living conditions, neutralize the negative consequences of modernization. Territorial sociocultural formations are being formed, within the framework of which attempts are being made to preserve the tradition- al socio-cultural environment. Conclusions. The dynamics of sociocultural pro- cesses determines the emergence of multidirec- tional poles of sociocultural life: from the desire to preserve the traditional socio-cultural environment, to the full acceptance of the meaningful qualities of liberal socio-culture, which destroys the sociocul- tural identity of local communities.

Local communities of Eurasia: geocultural aspect

The development of society in the context of globalization determines the need to search for the possibility of combining the universalization and localization of geoculture. These processes of globalization have an impact on the content and forms of transformation of the Eurasian geocultural space. The problem field of research is connected with the objective need to analyze the evolution of geoculture, to understand geoculture as a system characterizing the relations of general civilization universals and local specifics. The application of the civilizational approach makes it possible to identify trends in the socio-cultural development of local communities in the geocultural space, to solve the problems of coherence of locality and globality. Local communities are in a transitional stage of their development due to industrial, economic, institutional and socio-cultural processes, changes and the introduction of unusual patterns of life attitudes. It is shown that local communities in the process of transformation unite into a specific socio-territorial location. On the one hand, in their development, local communities are subject to the general laws of transformation in the context of global and regional restructuring. On the other hand, models of socio-cultural behavior are formed depending on the resources and technologies available to the community, expressed in an attempt to preserve the traditional way of life. Assimilation of local cultures is accompanied by polarization of geocultural space, which contributes to the development of isolation and diversification of sociocultures. Geocultural processes influence the transformation of value-normative attitudes, contribute to the growth of social stratification, and increase social inequality. The socio-cultural tradition on which the life of local communities is built legitimizes the primacy of the community over the individual. Closed society, resists modernization processes. In geoculture, consensus about the foundations of life and the goals of the community is disappearing. The development of a multicultural world exacerbates the problem of understanding and preserving the socio-cultural identity of local communities. The study of the emerging geocultural models of the development of local communities determines the possibilities of theoretical substantiation of alternative scenarios for modeling the transformation of socio-cultural identity.

A high conservation value analysis of ecotourism areas: A case study in Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan, Indonesia

Ecotourism is responsible travel to conserve the environment, reduce negative impacts on the environment and improve the welfare of local communities. Ecotourism is not just an ordinary tourist activity, but a combination of various interests that grow out of concern for the environment and cannot be separated from conservation values. This study aims to analyze the high conservation value of ecotourism areas. Data analysis using general guidelines for the identification of high conservation values by direct observation in the field, interviews, filling out questionnaires, and the stages of activities carried out include landscape, fauna aspect assessment, flora aspect assessment, social, economic, and cultural aspect assessment, criteria and sub-criteria assessment conservation. The results showed conservation assessment in each ecotourism area has various criteria depending on the physical condition of the area and the designation/function of the area for the life of flora and fauna as well as to meet the needs of the community. The conservation assessment of ecotourism areas in Tanah Laut Regency is included in the criteria for HCV 2, HCV 4, HCV 5, and HCV 6, which are classified as areas that have natural species, areas that are important as water providers, erosion, and flood control, areas that are important for meeting needs local communities and areas that are important for the cultural identity of local communities.

Valorization of Cultural and Social Heritage of the Post-Industrial Areas in the Upper Silesia, Illustrated with the Case of the Nikiszowiec District

The article focuses on the social and cultural dimension of the process of revitalization and rehabilitation of abandoned and decaying industrial buildings occurring in large numbers in the Upper Silesia conurba-tion. These processes are of increasing importance from the point of view of social change in respect of social structure, as well as in terms of the integrity and identity of local communities living in residential neighborhoods near degenerated areas and industrial buildings. Particularly focused on buildings that are revitalized and rehabilitated are young people who shape social and cultural identity with the local communities and with the region.

Cultural Heritage and Cultural Potential: The Use of Cultural Heritage on the Example of an Ethnographic Group

The formation and use of the cultural heritage and identity of local communities is a result of historical development and current opportunities and needs. Cultural heritage becomes a part of the cultural potential as a system. In Čajkov, the most representative village of the Slovak Chilejkar people, there is a system of using the established concept of local cultural heritage through cultural events (several of which are closely connected in terms of organisation and visitors) implemented by local human resources structured into local organisations and institutions, which are relatively diverse but have an internal logic. Some events have an old tradition; others originated and became “traditional” only a few years ago. The outlined system existing in a municipality with less than 1000 inhabitants reflects the degree of functioning of the local community. It is conditioned by cohesion, hierarchy, the self-confidence of members and appropriate economic conditions. For seniors, besides routine and tradition, the essential activating element is the social dimension – being socially active means meeting others, spending time with peers and eliminating loneliness. It is also an important identity creator in the socialisation, education and especially the upbringing of children and youth.

POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT OF RURAL TERRITORIES OF UKRAINE IN UNFINISHED CONDITIONS DECENTRALIZATION REFORMS

The article summarizes the essence of the category “rural area” and considers certain theoretical aspects of rural development from the standpoint of different scientifi c approaches and, in particular, taking into account the successful European experience of applying program-targeted approach to their development. The normative and legal support of rural development in Ukraine was also analyzed and the need to fi nalize the current legislation in order to complete decentralization reforms and ensure state humanitarian policy based on a certain balance between different historically formed national spiritual values of citizens of different regions as one of local identities. Pragmatic aspects of the implementation of modern scientifi c approaches to ensuring the development of rural areas of Ukraine in the context of decentralization reforms in the context of strategic management and program-targeted technologies in local government, taking into account the uniqueness and local identity of local communities and regions; adaptation of European experience in supporting rural development and agricultural production; increasing the positive social capital of communities, in particular, its youth aspect; increasing the organizational capacity of newly created territorial communities from the standpoint of project maturity and regional councils from the standpoint of coordination and consultation of local program and project activities. At the same time, special attention is paid to the development of social potential of the newly created territorial community, taking into account the local characteristics of each village. different regions.

Reflections on Local Community Identity by Evaluating Heritage Sustainability Protection in Jugra, Selangor, Malaysia

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the value derived by the local community from cultural heritage and natural heritage in Jugra, Kuala Langat, as it has the potential to be a recognized heritage tourism site. The quantitative approach was used by conducting a survey study. A total of 392 respondents among the local community were selected through a purposive sampling technique. The collected data were processed with SPSS software and analyzed using cross tabulation analysis. Then, several hypotheses were tested using AMOS software. The result showed that Jugra’s unique heritage elements positively influenced the respondent’s willingness to accept and fund its tourism development. Socioeconomic factors also influenced the respondents’ disposition to preserve heritage. The findings revealed that there was priceless value when respondents agreed with the development, although they had never visited the heritage sites. Their physical, economic, and social valuation made them proud of the heritage, as it is a reflection of their identity. This study also aims to emphasize the role of local community as one of the stakeholders, as they should also be able to benefit from tourism development. All these would help boost the tourism industry, particularly through the archaeo-tourism and eco-tourism perspectives.

Unlocking the inherent potential of plant genetic resources: food security and climate adaptation strategy in Fiji and the Pacific.

Pacific Island Countries (PICs) are the center of origin and diversity for several root, fruit and nut crops, which are indispensable for food security, rural livelihoods, and cultural identity of local communities. However, declining genetic diversity of traditional food crops and high vulnerability to climate change are major impediments for maintaining agricultural productivity. Limited initiatives to achieve food self-sufficiency and utilization of Plant Genetic Resources (PGR) for enhancing resilience of agro-ecosystems are other serious constraints. This review focuses on the visible and anticipated impacts of climate ge, on major food and tree crops in agriculture and agroforestry systems in the PICs. We argue that crop improvement through plant breeding is a viable strategy to enhance food security and climatic resilience in the region. The exploitation of adaptive traits: abiotic and biotic stress tolerance, yield and nutritional efficiency, is imperative in a world threatened by climatic extremes. However, the insular constraints of Fiji and other small PICs are major limitations for the utilization of PGR through high throughput techniques which are also cost prohibitive. Crop Improvement programs should instead focus on the identification, conservation, documentation and dissemination of information on unique landraces, community seed banks, introduction of new resistant genotypes, and sustaining and enhancing allelic diversity.

Strengthening maritime cultures as a source of creative ideas for maritime tourisme development in Kuta, Central Lombok

The development of tourism-oriented mass tourism often weakens the existence of culture that has become the identity of local communities. This paper aims to examine how the culture in the area around The Mandalika Central Lombok can actually be a source of creative ideas for tourism development. The data were collected through in-depth interviews and focused discussions with informants, and were analyzed descriptively qualitatively. Negative impacts on culture due to the development of tourism in the Mandalika can be avoided by preparing the community to package this culture through creative economic activities. The variables that need to be improved are digital capabilities, business management, and the ability to develop business networks. In addition, the existence of social norms must be maintained as a control so that creativity remains within the corridors of norms prevailing in society.

A social cure in the community: A mixed‐method exploration of the role of social identity in the experiences and well‐being of community volunteers

AbstractCohesive, resilient communities are vital to the well‐being of residents. Uncovering the determinants of successful community identities is therefore essential to progressing the community health agenda. Engaging in community participation through volunteering may be one pathway to building local community identity and enhancing residents’ health and well‐being, but the group processes connecting them remain unexplored. We conducted two studies investigating these dynamics using the “Social Cure” perspective. First, we analysed 53 in‐depth interviews with volunteers, finding that community relationships shaped their experiences and that volunteering influenced their sense of community belonging, support, and well‐being. Second, a community survey (N = 619) revealed that volunteering predicts well‐being through the serial mediators of community identification and social support. Our article demonstrates the Social Cure processes involved in community‐based volunteering, their impact on community identity, support and well‐being, and their implications for community health, and the provision and sustainability of community voluntary action and interventions.

Inner Archipelagos in Sicily. From Culture-Based Development to Creativity-Oriented Evolution

When Covid-19 arrived in Europe from the far East, the media and experts in economics and social sciences noticed that it was the expected discontinuity in the socio-economic development process. Really, the current phase has spread since the 1960s, when the application of econometric worldwide-spread development model was going to produce social inequalities, and consumption of physical, social, and cultural resources. Some places in Italy, far from the erosive and urban context and erosive metropolitan areas, are currently isolated seeds of a new cycle of life, because of the local community identity and the strong link between human, cultural, and natural components are currently working together towards a new development model. Starting from a 20-year research about Local Cultural Systems in Sicily, the research group has defined and tested the cultural dimension of development, and affirmed that the transition to a culture-based growth, as defined by UNESCO, should be the solution for overcoming the erosive Anthropocene era. In western Sicily, the Belice Valley is working on cultural transition thanks to relationships between cultural heritage, identity, and settlement network, that we have designed as a Territorial Archipelago. The research demonstrates that local communities will innovate if they rethink the development model and reshape spatial patterns and economic networks focusing on the creativity-driven vision.
