The Antecedents Of Organizational Performance With Corporate Carbon Management Strategy As Moderation

In recent years, the rapid growth of civilization and industrialization has had a significant impact on environmental sustainability. The rise of human revolution and technological developments aimed at making people's lives more comfortable have indirectly contributed to environmental degradation, thus causing adverse effects on human health. Excessive exploitation of natural resources has drawn public attention to environmental issues both at national and international levels. This study aims to examine the effect of Green Supply Chain Management, Green Intellectual Capital, and Competitive Business Strategy on organizational performance, and to examine whether Corporate Carbon Management Strategy can strengthen the effect of Green Supply Chain Management, Green Intellectual Capital, and Competitive Business Strategy on organizational performance. The type of data used in this study is primary data in the form of financial reports of companies that are used as samples. The research method used in this study is a quantitative research method. The sample was selected using the purposive sampling method. For hypothesis testing, this study uses multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of this study, it shows that Green Supply Chain Management and Competitive Business Strategy have an effect on Organizational Performance, but Green Intellectual Capital, have not effect on Organizational Performance. Carbon Management Strategy strengthens the influence of Green Supply Chain Management and Competitive Business Strategy on Organizational Performance and Carbon Management Strategy does not strengthen the influence of Green Intellectual Capital Strategy on Organizational Performance

Existential anxiety about artificial intelligence (AI)- is it the end of humanity era or a new chapter in the human revolution: questionnaire-based observational study.

Existential anxiety can profoundly affect an individual, influencing their perceptions, behaviours, sense of well-being, academic performance, and decisions. Integrating artificial intelligence into society has elicited complex public reactions, marked by appreciation and concern, with its acceptance varying across demographics and influenced by factors such as age, gender, and prior AI experiences. This study aimed to investigate the existential anxiety about artificial intelligence (AI) in public in Saudi Arabia. The present questionnaire-based observational, analytical cross-sectional study with a structured, self-administered survey was conducted via Google Forms, using a scale to assess the existential anxiety levels induced by the recent development of AI. The study encompassed a diverse population with a sample size of 300 participants. This study's findings revealed a high prevalence of existential anxieties related to the rapid advancements in AI. Key concerns included the fear of death (96% of participants), fate's unpredictability (86.3%), a sense of emptiness (79%), anxiety about meaninglessness (92.7%), guilt over potential AI-related catastrophes (87.7%), and fear of condemnation due to ethical dilemmas in AI (93%), highlighting widespread apprehensions about humanity's future in an AI-dominated era. The public has concerns including unpredictability, a sense of emptiness, anxiety, guilt over potential AI-related catastrophes, and fear of condemnation due to ethical dilemmas in AI, highlighting widespread apprehensions about humanity's future in an AI-dominated era. The results indicate that there is a need for a multidisciplinary strategy to address the existential anxieties in the AI era. Post-Jubilee Reports of the Club of Rome: In Search of a Conceptual Strategy for Humanity’s Foreseeable Future

The article analyzes the reports of the Club of Rome issued subsequent to its semicentennial celebration. The analysis uncovers the evolutionary trajectory of the Club’s conceptual frameworks, transitioning from the stark alarmism prevalent in the early 1970s to a grounded optimism characteristic of the early 21st century. The majority of its publications, in explicit or implicit form, essentially respond to a question of Hamletian scale that arose within the discussions of the “limits to growth” model: Is it possible, and if so, how, to overcome the antagonism between the continuous growth of the needs of an increasing humanity and the relatively limited natural-resource potential of the biosphere? The analysis introduces an analysis of world development scenarios by 2050, ranging from inertial extrapolation of current trends to radical transformations of global political, socio-economic, and cultural processes. The discourse reflects on the report authors’ contemplations regarding societal adaptability to undergo a “true human revolution,” entailing a fundamental reassessment of established economic models and advancement toward innovative global governance strategies. The paper scrutinizes the assertion that society’s “unlearnability” is one of the key obstacles to the sustainable development of civilization. Significant emphasis is placed on the imperative for a comprehensive transformation encompassing the global educational landscape and the cultivation of a novel (sustainable) mindset, one that appreciates the intricate interplay among economic, environmental, and sociocultural perspectives on the global dynamics of the “humanity – biosphere – civilization” system. Humanity, overcoming the turbulences of contemporary world development, possesses all the prerequisites for a constructive analysis and design of strategic perspectives of the foreseeable future.

The article analyzes the problems of extreme transitivity of the modern university education as a competition between two historically established strategies — classical university (university as a universe of knowledge) and polytechnic (quantorium) university. The idea is substantiated that the co-evolution of the biosphere, sociosphere and technosphere, reflected in the global mosaic educational space, generates competition between various variations of the university consciousness and worldview. It is shown that the intellectual university history, as the information revolution unfolds, is gradually turning into a noospheric history, which assumes the explosive nature of the global human revolution in the 21st century. The conclusion is made about the formation of developed forms of “university cephalization” of humanity within the framework of university models of hybrid co-evolution of natural mind and artificial intelligence.

From High Heroism to Abject Abyss: Ethical Aspects of Highly Aestheticised and Critical Videogames

Videogames have become the leading medium in our globalised cultural industries following the postmodern ludic turn and shift towards simulation as the central mode of meaning-making. Subject to public controversies and media panics, like all new media before them, questions of morality and ethics inevitably become pertinent in any attempt to define videogames, their effects on and place in our societies. This paper provides a survey of the dimensions of production-, player-, designer-, and game ethics applied to the medium of videogames, offering a multitude of jumping-off points for further debates. The roles of both players and designers in the realisation of various system dynamics and play experiences are critically considered, and a practical framework for the analysis of morality systems in (video-)games established. Finally, fours pertinent games, Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011), Dishonored (2012), Dragon Age: Inquisition (2014), and Firewatch (2016), are introduced as examples for a deconstructive approach to individual heroism, a systemic ethical perspective, a discussion of personal and collective responsibility, as well as the acknowledgment of the limits of human agency respectively. Resulting from these deliberations, an argument is finally made for a necessary increase in affective game design strategies and practices to realise the unparalleled potential of (video-)games as virtual learning spaces for ethical reflection and moral action.

The development of ideas about a recent African origin for Homo sapiens.

In this contribution I will review the development of ideas about a recent African origin for our species over the last 50 years, starting from the time of my PhD in the early 1970s. I will examine the instructive and quite different interpretations placed on the 1979 discovery of a partial Neanderthal skeleton associated with a Châtelperronian industry at the rock shelter of St-Césaire in France, and then focus on the crucial years from 1987-1989, including the so-called 'Human Revolution' conference of 1987, and my 1988 Science paper with Peter Andrews: 'Genetic and Fossil Evidence for the Origin of Modern Humans'. Following the historical review, I will assess the status of five proposed models for the evolution of derived Homo sapiens: Recent African Origin (RAO); RAO and Hybridisation (RAOH); Assimilation (AM); Multiregional Evolution (MRE); and Braided Stream (BS). I conclude that a recent African origin model with hybridization (RAOH) is the best supported from the fossil and genetic evidence.

Global Issues Library is an Alexander Street resource that provides documents, images, and videos on more than 180 issues, topics, and events, from the eighteenth century to the present, that are key to understanding global affairs today. Curated by a board of international scholars, the database contains original documents and images in PDF format, as well as e-books, monographs, journals, photographs, audio, and video. These are drawn from a variety of national and international sources and collectively represent several thousand images, almost 1,000 hours of videos, and more than 600,000 pages of content. Alexander Street continues to add new materials to each collection. The documents stored on the site can be browsed, searched, printed, downloaded, and emailed.These unique primary source materials support research in international studies, global affairs, history, political science, sociology, security studies, peace studies, law, public policy, environmental studies, and anthropology. Specific topics include borders and migration, human rights violations, peacekeeping, climate change, terrorism, revolutions, and human trafficking. Specific events explored include the U.S.‐Mexico border, the Rwandan genocide, the Arab Spring, the Israeli‐Palestinian conflict, and climate migrants in Asia-Pacific. Multiple perspectives (personal, governmental, legal, contemporary, and retrospective) allow the comparison of issues in a variety of contexts and in an interdisciplinary manner.

In 1949, just before the outbreak of the Korean War, Lee Jong-Ryul appealed for urgent development of the campaign for the national revolution to avoid bloodshed among the Korean people. He advocated political independence and democracy as well as a popular liberal enterprise system to stand against the imperialism.<BR> In the early 1930s, Lee Jong-Ryul was not a simple nationalist influenced by the socialism, as some historians have argued. He attempted to carry out a socialist revolution driven by the proletariat, considering that the Korean society had already entered the stage of the socialist movement through the nationalist movement. In the end, he failed to build the Communist Party based on the proletariat, so he declared his ideological conversion in his final statements at the sentencing court in 1935. Afterward he found the causes of his failure in the backwardness of the Korean society, and redefined the character of the future revolution and its main agents, paying attention to the relative independence and the importance of human consciousness that Marx had neglected. Finally, he proposed a new political line, national revolution and human revolution , which should be driven by the national proletariat, which accounted for 95 percentage of the total Korean population.<BR> Lee Jong-Ryul’s political line could not be regarded as one of the communist’s tactics for a unified front, as some previous studies have argued.

Actualizing hope and joy in K-12 curricula through Daisaku Ikeda’s human education

Abstract Purpose: Our study aims to create a framework grounded in Daisaku Ikeda’s philosophy of education for educators and researchers to implement and evaluate human education in the classroom. Research Methodology: We first synthesized the eighteen chapters by scholars involved in Ikeda studies, published in the book entitled: Hope and Joy in Education: Engaging Daisaku Ikeda across Curriculum and Context to discover the main themes in Ikeda’s human education. Based on these themes, we selected six children’s stories developed by Ikeda to design lessons. We then conducted surveys with ten K-12 teachers across disciplines and school districts to explore their perspectives toward humanity and their feedback on our lesson design. Results: Our finding indicates that creating hope and joy in education is inseparable from human revolution, value creation, happiness, the greater self, global citizens, as well as life and death. In addition, the participant’s responses to the survey questions help educators and researchers understand what K-12 teachers look for in order to implement lessons on humanity more efficiently and effectively. Limitations: By no means would we consider our lesson design exemplary or applicable in all different contexts. Instead, we consider these lessons a starting point to continue exploring a better way to teach humanity in school. Contribution: Seeing examples of lesson plans on humanity and learning from K-12 teachers’ perspectives provide an aspect for educators and researchers to use, extend, or expand the present study to bring hope and joy to students in their local contexts.

Between Brussels, Strasbourg, and London: The European Strategy of Amnesty International’s Dutch Section, 1976-1983

This article examines the ties between Amnesty International’s Dutch section, the European Parliament, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe between 1976 and 1983. It elaborates on the threefold manner in which analysing the Dutch section’s European strategy adds to the existing historiography on Euro­pean integration. First, this article illustrates that the European strategy of Amnesty was diffuse among its national and international sections, therefore problematising the approach to such transnational actors as monolithic organisations. Instead, sec­ondly, this article demonstrates that it was the Dutch section specifically that func­tioned as interlocutor between the European organisations through its attempt to closely intertwine the two on the field of human rights. Finally, this deepens our understanding of how the European organisations operated in the “human rights revolution” that took place in the 1970s and 1980s.

Conceptual Research in Theoretical Studies: Intersections of Human Education and Curriculum

This paper examines Daisaku Ikeda’s perspective and practice of ningen kyoiku, or “human education.” Ikeda and the Soka tradition of education informing his perspective and practice have gained increasing purchase in the field of Curriculum Studies (Goulah &amp; Ito, 2012; He, Schultz, &amp; Schubert, 2015). Here, Cornell applies peace education pioneer Betty Reardon’s (2017) approach to understanding the alternative mode of thinking present in Ikeda’s philosophy and practice of peace to his philosophy and practice of human education. For Reardon, these modes include “values, i.e., moral and ethical principles and standards; concerns, i.e., problems that violate the values; proposals, i.e., ideas for overcoming or resolving the problems; actions, i.e., steps to implement the proposals; and consequences, i.e., potential outcomes of the actions” (Reardon, 2017, n.p.). Building off this framework, Goulah (2019) identifies a sixth mode of thinking, Buddhist philosophy, and indicates that Ikeda incorporates Buddhist philosophy to shed light on the problems and challenges he discusses. Cornell argues that these six modes of thinking present in Ikeda’s perspective on human education indicate his fundamental intent of outlining a vision in which human becoming, or what he calls “human revolution,” should be the central focus of all human endeavor and a central principle of Curriculum Studies. Salient to the field of Curriculum Studies, Schubert (2009) asks, “What is worth knowing, needing, experiencing, doing, being, becoming, sharing, contributing, and wondering?” (p. 22). Cornell concludes that the intersection of these questions in relation to human revolution and human becoming in education lead to the need for teacher agency in schools as learning cultures of human becoming.

Soka Gakkai's Human Revolution: The Rise of a Mimetic Nation in Modern Japan by Levi McLaughlin

By Levi McLaughlin. University of Hawai'i Press, Honolulu, 2019. xiv, 219 pages. $68.00, cloth; $28.00, paper. Levi McLaughlin's Soka Gakkai's Human Revolution: The Rise of a Mimetic Nation in Modern Japan is a brilliant introduction to Soka Gakkai as an organization and as a social movement. Soka Gakkai's organizational history, its basic teaching, and the main characteristics of its campaigns are clearly explained in the first half of the book. The second half contains a beautifully written ethnography, in which readers can get a real sense of the ordinary people who participate in Soka Gakkai's movement. Readers will gain most from this book, however, if it is read with Anne Mette Fisker-Nielsen's Religion and Politics in Contemporary Japan: Soka Gakkai Youth and Komeito (Routledge, 2012). McLaughlin is a male nonmember of Soka Gakkai, while Fisker-Nielsen is a female self-identified Gakkai member. In my view, these two books complement each other as two sides of the same coin. For more advanced readers, I would like to point out some possible shortcomings in McLaughlin's argument. What follows is my critical review of the book. Some may find my criticism pedantic, and if so, this is because McLaughlin's book is overall extremely well written. For those who know my own works, my first criticism will be predictable—rather than assuming Soka Gakkai is a religion, the category of "religion" should be an object of analysis in the context of Soka Gakkai's history. Soka Gakkai was originally founded in 1930 as Soka Kyōiku Gakkai, which was a self-identified "educational" organization. McLaughlin observes that its founder, Makiguchi Tsunesaburo, "hardly deals with religion" in his academic publications, and Makiguchi's works were "concerned primarily with philosophical inquiry, not with religion" (p. 41). What was described as "religious" about Makiguchi's life by his contemporaries was his conversion to Nichiren Shōshū (p. 42). At that time, Nichiren Shōshū was an officially recognized "religious" organization. This is because the category of "religion" in the prewar Japanese constitutional regime was reserved specifically for Temple Buddhism (which Nichiren Shōshū was part [End Page 527] of), sectarian Shintō, and Christianity. Thus, the arrest of Makiguchi by the police in 1943 and the subsequent dismantling of Soka Kyōiku Gakkai by the Japanese authorities should not be perceived as "clamping down on religious organizations" (p. 43, emphasis added). Instead, the organization was more likely to be clamped down on because it had not been a "religious" organization, which would have been constitutionally protected. It belonged to the category of "pseudo-religion" or "heretic teaching."1 Renamed Soka Gakkai after World War II, in 1952 it became a "religion" "under the 1951 Religious Corporation Law" (p. 118). This meant Soka Gakkai became a legal entity independent from Nichiren Shōshū. The book, however, does not highlight the significance of this event. And interestingly, this might be a beginning of Soka Gakkai's preparation for its future battle against the Nichiren Shōshū priesthood. In my view, this part of Soka Gakkai's history is too important to ignore. Now I would like to turn to McLaughlin's conceptualization of Soka Gakkai as "a mimetic nation-state" (p. ix). He observes: "Soka Gakkai's appurtenances resemble, most of all, features of a modern nation-state" (p. 16). McLaughlin uses the concept of nation-state as "a guiding metaphor" (p. 20). In my view, however, when he regards Soka Gakkai as "a religion that models itself on an idealized vision of the nation-state" (p. 20), he could have pushed his argument even further to regard Soka Gakkai as a "vestigial state." Vestigial states are "the institutional and cultural remainders of former sovereignties surviving within the jurisdictions of contemporary government."2 They could also be states "in waiting" or "in hibernation."3 Soka Gakkai can be one of the latter type. Screening and optimization of some Egyptian soil-born fungi for lipids production as possible source for biofuel

Depletion of fossil fuel is the largest challenge facing human industrial and technological revolution in the current era. Exploration of widely distributed microorganisms for the production of renewable biofuel is the most priority for scientific research in the last decades. In this context, thirteen fungal isolates were collected from Tanta city, El-Gharbia Governorate, Egypt belonging to four genera (Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium and Alternaria) were screened on minimal media for their ability to accumulate lipid in their biomass. The maximum lipid contents were 25.31% for Aspergillus versicolor and 20.15% for Aspergillus niveus. The optimization result showed that pH 4, incubation temperature 32°C, sucrose at concentration of 40g/L, glutamic acid at concentration of 0.5 g/L (C/N ratio at 40:0.5 w/w) after 5 days of incubation with agitation rate of 150 rpm on orbital shaker were the most appropriate conditions for the highest lipid accumulation in the case of Aspergillus versicolor. However, in case of Aspergillus niveus, pH 4, incubation temperature at 32°C, sucrose at concentration of 20 g/L, NaNO3 at concentration of 1.0 g/L (C/N ratio at 20:1.0 w/w) after 11 days of incubation with agitation rate of 150 rpm were the most appropriate for the highest lipid accumulation.
