A computer–aided instruction (CAI) software package was developed for a History of Interiors course using Macintosh (512K) and all upgrades. The purpose of this study was to test the CAI during development in order to determine whether to continue the project. The first four discs, which are comparable to chapters of a book, divided the material into Ancient Times, Middle Ages, European Renaissance, and Emerging America. These discs were presented to two different college classes: a history of interiors class with 12 students and a liberal education class with 20 students (the control group). The students in each course did the exercises on all four discs and took an examination on both the disc material and similar non–disc material. This provided a 2times2 experimental design with Repeated Measures ANOVA (RMA) used for statistical analysis. The results indicate that while both groups improved their scores between the pre–and post–test, the history of interiors class showed significantly greater improvement in their scores.
