The evaluation of treatment resistance in patients receiving anti-platelet therapy is a major concern issue for the clinicians in order to establish more effective therapeutic approaches. Thereby, the use of modern techniques for the estimation of platelets’ functionality can greatly contribute to this direction. Methods. The sample consisted of 1) a control group including 35 normal subjects without treatment and 2) a case group of 33 hospitalised cardiac patients with chronic coronary disease. Moreover, patients were divided in subgroups according to antiplatelet treatment. Blood samples were taken and analyzed by the new Multiplate analyzer (using ASPItest, ADPtest, TRAPtest) whose operating principle is based on impedance platelet aggregometry in whole blood. Results. Regarding the control group, the test values ranged normally while regarding the patient groups, pathological values were found in patients taking 100 mg/d Aspirin, 75 mg/d Clopidogrel and 100 mgr Aspirin+75 mgr Clopidogrel /d while treatment resistance was found only in patients receiving the combination of antiplatelet treatment regiments ( 100 mgr Aspirin+75 mgr Clopidogrel /d ). Conclusions. The Multiplate analyser can be used 1) for the monitoring of antiplatelet therapy and the detection of patients with resistance to treatment 2) to detect patients likely to bleed (rare) 3) to discover hereditary platelet disorders and hyper functioning of platelets.
