Background: The vaginal tear in vaginal delivery is a recurring and worrying factor for the health of parturients, so, this necessary to know the most effective prevention strategies, so that perineal traumas are minimized. Aims: to investigate in the literature what evidence is available on strategies to prevent the occurrence of perineum tears. Method: Narrative review of the literature was made out from March to April 2020, in the LILACS, MEDLINE and SCIELO databases using the keywords “vaginal delivery”, “perineum” and “episiotomy”. Results: Initially, 86 articles were found, 54 were excluded because they did not fit the theme, 32 remained, and after the inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, leaving 7 productions. Conclusion: it was possible to observe that the most used strategies to obtain perineal integrity after vaginal deliveries are: peri-neal massage and Epi-no during pregnancy, favorable position during childbirth, manual protection of the perineum, hands on and hands off during delivery.
