Enhancing Health and Empowerment: Assessing the Satisfaction of Underprivileged Rural Women Participating in a Functional Literacy Education Program in Kailali District, Nepal.

Women's empowerment and health literacy are essential for fostering community well-being. Empowering women through education and diverse training plays a crucial role in ensuring their prosperity and overall health. This study investigates the satisfaction and experiences of underprivileged rural mothers participating in a functional literacy education program in the Kailali district, Nepal. We assess participants' perceptions of program effectiveness, examining training content, facilities, and trainers while exploring menstrual hygiene practices and maternal health awareness. Through convenience sampling, 141 underprivileged women from five rural villages near Tikapur were selected from literacy centers run by Mahima Group. Utilizing structured questionnaires and statistical analyses, including descriptive analyses, Spearman's rho correlation, and Pearson's chi-square test, we found that 65.2% of participants expressed high satisfaction levels. Moreover, 96.5% found the program highly effective, with 97.9% reporting improved literacy skills and 96.5% demonstrating increased awareness of menstrual hygiene practices. Additionally, 97.2% agreed that the program enhanced maternal and child health knowledge. Significant correlations were observed among the training course, facilities, trainers, and overall training perception. In line with this, significant associations were found between age groups (p = 0.003) and geographical areas (p = 0.023) with satisfaction levels with the literacy program. These results underscore the satisfaction of participants within the literacy program and its impact on their lives, and advocates for its broader implementation to empower marginalized communities for sustainable development.

Women empowerment through functional literature education based on entrepreneurship

Women are expected to be empowered more quickly and effectively through entrepreneurship-based functional literacy education. The main problem faced is that women drop out of school quite high and do not have skills. This Community Service Activity (PKM) collaborates with the Bungaeja Community Learning Activity Center in an entrepreneurship-based functional literacy education program. The community empowerment method used consists of counseling and training. From community service activities, it can be concluded that HR is not enough to only master theories, but also requires skills in applying their knowledge in society. In training and mentoring, partners can make handicraft products from plastic waste.

Pentingnya Penerapan Keterampilan Life-Long Learning bagi Siswa Sekolah Menengah Atas

Life-long learning is an on going educational process without time and place limits. It starts from birth until the end of life, that is what happens in the family, school, workplace, and in public life. The purpose of life-long education is to develop the potential of human personality in accordance with nature and its essence, to develop awareness that the growth and development of the human personality is alive and dynamic, and to expand and increase human hope and life. The implications of life-long learning programs can be grouped into several categories, namely: functional literacy education, vocational education, professional education, education towards changes in development and civic education, and political maturity. This study aims to determine how important lifelong education is for high school students (SMA). The method used in this research is a literature study. The data obtained were analyzed through descriptive analytical method with a qualitative approach. The results of the literature study concluded that life-long learning can increase students' independence and entrepreneurial spirit, which is useful throughout the student's life.

Development of functional literacy in secondary education: thematic discourse analysis

Functional literacy development is an important part of secondary education in Kazakhstan which is reflected in the state educational programmes for education and science development in 2012, 2016, 2020. This area has been studied by researchers, policy makers and teachers in Kazakhstan. However, the concepts of functional literacy and the development of related basic/key competencies are constantly changing and expanding. Therefore, there is a need for a literature review which introduces the various perspectives on functional literacy development in secondary education with major themes and developments. This article presents the main results of the thematic discourse analysis which is focused on the latest functional literacy related publications. The analysis employed the following methods: bibliographical synthesis of literacy and topic modelling LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation). This article presents the results of the topic modelling analysis which contributes to the discussion in the area of functional literacy development at national and international levels. It also introduces major areas of development including methods and approaches in functional literacy education and assessment. This paper might contribute to the work of policy makers, researchers, secondary school teachers and those who are interested in functional literacy development and education in Kazakhstan and abroad. The Quality of a ‘Local Values Based’ Fuctional Literacy Program: Its Contribution to the Improvement of the Learner’s Basic Competencies

Literacy facilitators across the archipelago are currently faced with the challenge to integrate local values in functional literacy education programs, because its integration is a new aspect. This makes localized literacy content a hard thing to implement. Yet, if properly conducted, it can lead to improved learner’s basic competencies. In an effort to improve the learner’s competencies based on localized content, it is necessary to develop the facilitator’s competencies in regard to use of localized materials, as a measure to improve the quality of the learners. In this paper, the researcher aims to bring forward a model of functional literacy education based on local culture (values) for quality performance of the community learning centers within a learning society. The research reveals that literacy education based on local culture or local content can improve the quality of learning. The conclusion is that a model combining localized content, can enrich learning in this globalized world. Such a model can help learners to act locally, but with a globalized mind.

PENDIDIKAN KEAKSARAAN FUNGSIONAL DAN DAMPAKNYA TERHADAP AKTUALITAS PROFESI WARGA MASYARAKAT

The purpose of this research is to describe the implementation of functional literacy education towards the professional actuality of the community members in Kayumerah village, Lomboto Subdistrict, Gorontalo District. The research conducted as from April through June 2013, collected data by interviewing 20 resource persons with various professional backgrounds. The data were analysed qualitatively and concluded that the participants of functional literacy education are motivated to complete the program and the result has significant effect to do their jobs.

Long life education is a process of continuous education lasts indefinitely and the place. that starts from birth to the end of life. That is that occurred in the family, at school, at work and in public life. Long life educational purposes is to develop the potential of the human personality in accordance with the nature and essence, develop awarnes that the growth and development of the human personality is vibrant and dynamic, expands and increases hope and human life. The implications long life education programs can be grouped into several categories: functional literacy education, vocational education, professional education, education in the direction of change and development and civic education and political maturity.

Functional Literacy Education for Jail Inmates: An Examination of the Hillsborough County Jail Education Program

Offenders incarcerated in jails in Hillsborough County, Florida, had the opportunity to participate in an education program using computer-assisted instruction for basic literacy education and GED preparation. Although literacy levels were low with a tested mean of sixth grade prior to entering the program, participants made statistically significant gains in knowledge during 6 weeks of instruction. Overall, participants gained 2.40 grades during this period. Significance tests based on gender, race, and age were conducted with males, Blacks, and juveniles showing significantly higher gains in knowledge within these groups. However, when a logistic regression model was created using low/high gains as the dependent variable, only age remained significant indicating an interaction effect with gender and race. Participants in the program showed high levels of satisfaction with the program, and 90% had plans to continue their education upon release from incarceration. Based on the research conducted thus far, the program is operating successfully.
