The role of awareness, appreciation, and communication satisfaction in shaping employee engagement: evidence from the organizational health behavior index

A healthy organization fosters an environment in which employees feel valued, motivated, and connected to their work. This study examines the relationship between organizational health and employee engagement using the Organizational Health Behavior Index (OHBI) as a multifaceted diagnostic framework, focusing on the joint effects of awareness, appreciation, and communication satisfaction. Data were collected from 7,548 employees across public, private, and semi-government sectors in Saudi Arabia, and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to test direct and moderating relationships among the study constructs. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) demonstrated excellent model fit (CFI = 0.978; RMSEA = 0.048), with all factor loadings exceeding 0.70, supporting convergent and discriminant validity. The results indicate that awareness ( β = 0.230), appreciation ( β = 0.152), and communication satisfaction ( β = 0.070) significantly predict employee engagement ( p < 0.001). Moderation analysis further reveals that communication satisfaction strengthens the relationship between awareness and employee engagement ( β = 0.082), while slightly attenuating the effect of appreciation ( β = −0.027), highlighting its dual role as a contextual moderator. The findings offer actionable insights for enhancing employee engagement and fostering healthier organizational environments across diverse sectors. Although the study is situated within the Saudi Arabian context, the OHBI demonstrates broad applicability across different countries, industries, and organizational settings, providing a practical framework for assessing organizational health and supporting human resource management interventions

Variational Bayesian inference for sparse item response theory models.

Item response theory (IRT) model is a widely appreciated statistical method in exploring the relationship between individual latent traits and item responses. In this paper, a sparse IRT model is established to address the sparsity of factor loadings. A global and local shrinkage prior is imposed to penalize the factor loadings: the global parameter controls the amount of shrinkage at the column levels, while the local parameter adjusts the penalty of factor loadings within each column. We develop a variational Bayesian procedure to conduct posterior inference. By exploiting a stochastic representation for logistic function, we frame sparse IRT model as a mixture model mixing with Pólya-Gamma distribution. Such a strategy admits a conjugate posterior for the latent quantity, thus leading to a straightforward posterior computation. We assess the performance of the proposed method via a simulation study. A real example related to personality assessment is analysed to illustrate the usefulness of methodology.

Global nursing competency scale in blood transfusion: development and psychometric validity.

Blood transfusion is a high-risk procedure that requires technical accuracy, clinical judgment and adherence to safety protocols. Despite nurses' central role in transfusion care, no validated instrument exists to comprehensively assess global competence in this context. The absence of standardized measures limits educational planning, performance evaluation and the development of policies aimed at strengthening transfusion safety. This study aimed to develop and psychometrically evaluate the Hemotransfusion Nursing Global Competence Scale, designed to measure nurses' overall competence in the transfusion process. A psychometric methodological study based on Classical Test Theory was conducted in three phases. Phase 1 included construct definition and development of 41 items across cognitive, clinical, behavioral and psychomotor domains. Phase 2 involved content validation by 15 national experts using the Content Validity Ratio. Phase 3 evaluated the internal structure and psychometric properties with 529 Brazilian nurses through exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency indicators. All items were judged essential by experts, demonstrating strong content validity. Exploratory factor analysis supported a robust unidimensional structure with high factor loadings, while confirmatory factor analysis confirmed excellent model fit (CFI > 0.99; TLI > 0.99; RMSEA = 0.039). Reliability was exceptional (Cronbach's α = 0.992; McDonald's ω = 0.999). Item-total correlations and "if deleted" indices supported retention of all 41 items, indicating a stable and precise measure of global transfusion competence. The scale is a valid, reliable and theoretically grounded instrument for assessing nurses' overall competence in blood transfusion. Its unidimensional structure reflects the integrated nature of transfusion skills and supports comprehensive evaluation in clinical and educational settings.

Turkish Validity and Reliability of the Assessment Tool for the Transition of Primiparas Becoming Mothers

Objective: Becoming a mother involves a complex process of adjustment in biological, psychological, and social terms. This period is a special phase in which strong emotional bonds are formed and identity transformation takes place. The adjustment of primiparous becoming mother is particularly important in terms of mother-baby bonding and family relationships. The aim of this study was to establish the Turkish validity and reliability of the “Transition of Primiparous Becoming Mothers Scale” in first-time mothers. Methods: This metadological study was conducted with 218 women with first-time mothers experience who brought their 1-6-month-old infants to the pediatric outpatient clinic for routine check-ups between January 1 and December 31, 2024. In the adaptation stages of the scale, language validity, content validity, construct validity, discriminant validity and Cronbach's Alpha coefficient were used to determine the internal consistency of the scale. The significance level (p) was accepted as 0.05 in all statistical analyses. Results: The content validity index ranged between 0.87 and 1.00 for each item and was found to be 0.99 for the whole scale. The number of items of the scale, which initially had 30 items, was finalized as 29 according to the factor loadings. The Cronbach Alpha value calculated for the reliability of the scale was 0.870. Goodness of fit indices were also acceptable. Conclusions: The scale designed to assess the motherhood transition process of first-time mothers has been found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool for Turkish-speaking women. This scale can provide healthcare professionals with an important resource for evaluating primiparous women’s adaptation to motherhood and for planning appropriate interventions to support a healthy transition process.

Psychometric Properties of the Persian CASP in Adolescents With Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The Child and Adolescent Scale of Participation (CASP) requires further psychometric validation across languages to assess participation in adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Persian CASP in adolescents with ASD. The study involved 100 adolescents with ASD and 50 typically developing peers, assessing reliability and validity using Persian CASP, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), discriminant, and convergent validity. The Persian CASP showed excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.94) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.95). CFA with the diagonally weighted least squares estimator supported a one-factor model, with moderate fit: comparative fit index = 0.925, normed fit index = 0.895, goodness-of-fit index = 0.750, root mean square error of approximation = 0.108, chi-square/degree of freedom ratio = 3.05. Factor loadings ranged from 0.45 to 0.78. Participation differed significantly between groups (p < 0.001). Strong PedsQL correlations supported convergent validity. The Persian CASP demonstrates good reliability and validity, though CFA results indicate only moderate model fit.

ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE READINESS AND QUALITY OF WORK LIFE: A STUDY ON SELECTED PRIVATE UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES IN RAJASTHAN

The current study investigated the impact of change management practices on employee engagement in selected private universities in Rajasthan. The research aimed to understand how different aspects of change management influenced the involvement, enthusiasm, and commitment of employees working in higher education institutions. A structured survey questionnaire was developed that included constructs such as readiness for change, employee participation in the change process, change-related communication effectiveness, leadership support, overall change management practices, and employee commitment to change. Employee engagement was measured through indicators related to enthusiasm, involvement, and emotional connection with the organization. Data were collected from 400 academic and administrative staff across private universities in Rajasthan. The data were analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique. The measurement model confirmed the reliability and validity of the constructs, as factor loadings, composite reliability, and average variance extracted values were within the acceptable range. Discriminant validity was also established through HTMT ratios. The structural model results indicated that change management practices had a significant and positive effect on employee engagement. Leadership support and effective communication emerged as particularly strong predictors of engagement. Employee participation and commitment also contributed positively, while readiness for change showed a supportive role in shaping engagement outcomes. The findings suggested that well-structured change management practices strengthened employee engagement in higher education institutions.

Validation of the 7-Item Quality of Life Disease-Specific Impact Scale in Patients Undergoing Radical Cystectomy for Bladder Cancer: A Cross-Sectional Study.

To validate, for the first time in patients with bladder cancer who underwent radical cystectomy, the recently developed 7-item Quality of Life Disease-specific Impact Scale (QDIS-7), a brief, unidimensional instrument designed for cross-condition comparisons. In this cross-sectional study conducted at 24 facilities, patients aged ≥ 20 years who were 3 months post-radical cystectomy for bladder cancer completed self-reported questionnaires. The enrollment period was from January 2020 to October 2022. Quality of life measures included the QDIS-7, the Bladder Cancer Index (BCI), and the Body Image Scale (BIS). Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to test the hypothesized one-factor structure of the QDIS-7. Internal consistency reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Criterion-based validity was evaluated using Spearman's correlation coefficients (ρ) between the QDIS-7 scores and the BCI bother subdomains and BIS scores. In total, 205 patients (median age, 71 years; 78.5% male) were included. The QDIS-7 score showed no floor or ceiling effects. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the one-factor model (factor loadings, 0.71-0.94). Internal consistency reliability was high (Cronbach's alpha, 0.94). The QDIS-7 score showed moderate correlations with the BIS and the BCI urinary and bowel bother subdomain scores (ρ = 0.654, -0.560, and -0.475, respectively). The QDIS-7 effectively captured urinary and bowel symptom burden and body image impairment in patients undergoing radical cystectomy for bladder cancer. Its brevity, strong psychometric properties, and capacity for comparisons across conditions support its use in patient-centered research. UMIN-CTR (UMIN000039538).

Turkish validity and reliability study of the Menopausal Spousal Support Questionnaire.

The main purpose of the research is to demonstrate the scientific validity and reliability of the Turkish translation of the Menopausal Spousal Support Questionnaire (MSSQ). A total of 176 women participated in this methodological study. Research data were gathered through the MSSQ and a personal information form. Following the confirmation of language and content validity, analyses such as exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, item-total correlation, calculation of Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient, test-retest (time invariance), split-half reliability, and comparison of the top and bottom 27% groups were conducted on the data. Factor analyses confirmed the original four-factor structure of the MSSQ. The total explained variance was 70.824%, and factor loadings ranged between 0.65 and 0.84. Confirmatory factor analysis yielded excellent fit indices (χ²/df = 1.60; Goodness of Fit Index = 0.99; Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index = 0.99; Comparative Fit Index = 1.00; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.059; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual = 0.050), indicating a good model fit without any modifications. The overall Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.933, and all item-total correlations were above 0.40. The average total MSSQ score was 109.24 ± 33.56. The Turkish version of the MSSQ is a valid and highly reliable instrument for measuring spousal support in postmenopausal women and is appropriate for use within the cultural context of Turkish society.

Adaptation of the Partners at Care Transitions Measure Into Turkish: A Validity and Reliability Study for Older Adults.

This study aimed to adapt and test 'The Partners at Care Transitions Measure (PACT-M)' to Turkish culture, and evaluate its psychometric properties. This methodological study included 300 patients from a university hospital. The Turkish version of the scale underwent translation, cultural adaptation and content validity review. Construct validity was tested with confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability was assessed through Cronbach's alpha and item-total correlations. Convergent validity was examined using correlations with the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale. The Turkish adaptation of the PACT-M successfully retained the original construct. Cronbach's alpha coefficients and item-total correlations indicated strong internal reliability. The two-factor structure was confirmed through confirmatory factor analysis, demonstrating an acceptable model fit, with all factor loadings statistically significant. In terms of convergent validity, the total PACT-M score showed a significant low-level positive correlation with the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale. This study provides evidence supporting the psychometric adequacy of the Turkish version of the PACT-M. The instrument appears to be a useful tool for assessing older adults' perceptions of care quality and safety during the transition from hospital to home. Its application in clinical practice may help identify patients who require additional support during the discharge and post-discharge process.

In this study, it was aimed to develop a measurement tool to measure middle school students’ music performance self-efficacy. There were 2 separate research groups in the study, 447 observation sets in the first research group and 351 observation sets in the second research group. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted with the first research group and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with the second research group. In the study, a factor structure consisting of 5 factors, explaining 59.9% of the total variance and 27 items with factor loadings ranging from 0.365 to 0.770 was obtained. As a result of CFA, it was determined that the standardized values ranged between 0.59 and 0.84 and the fit indices were within the model fit criteria. The cronbach alpha value obtained for the entire factor structure was 0.922. When the sub-factors were analysed, it was found that the Cronbach alpha value of the first factor was 0.904, the second factor was 0.815, the third factor was 0.763, the fourth factor was 0.815, and the fifth factor was 0.760. As a result of all findings, it was revealed that the developed scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool.

Quality of Life in Patients with Ureteral Stones: Translation and Validation of the Brazilian Version of the Cambridge Ureteral Stone PROM (Br-CUSP).

There is currently no validated instrument in Brazil specifically designed to assess the quality of life (QoL) of patients with ureteral stones. The Cambridge Ureteral Stone Patient-Reported Outcome Measure (CUSP) is a self-administered questionnaire that evaluates the QoL impact of ureteral stones over the preceding seven days. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the CUSP for Brazilian Portuguese (Br-CUSP) for clinical and research applications. The CUSP questionnaire was translated into Portuguese according to Guillemin's cross-cultural adaption guidelines. Patients with and without ureterolithiasis completed both the Br-CUSP and SF-12 questionnaires. Psychometric validation included assessment of internal consistency, test-retest reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. A total of 156 participants completed both questionnaires. No inconsistencies emerged during univariate analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the six-factor model with satisfactory fit indices. All factor loadings exceeded 0.50. Internal consistency was high across all domains (Cronbach's α = 0.72 - 0.98; McDonald's ω = 0.73 - 0.98). Test-retest reliability demonstrated strong temporal stability. Inter-domain correlations (Spearman's p = 0.45 - 0.82) supported structural coherence. Convergent validity was confirmed through inverse correlations with SF-12 scores. Discriminant validity was demonstrated by significant score differences between patients with and without ureteral stone, with large effect sizes. The Brazilian Cambridge Ureteral Stone Patient-Reported Outcome Measure is a valid, reliable tool for assessing health-related quality of life in Brazilian patients with ureteral stones. Its implementation can enhance both clinical assessment and research into patient-centered outcomes in urolithiasis.

Development and Psychometric Properties of Short-Video Applications Addiction Questionnaire (S-VAAQ)

Objective: This cross-sectional study aimed to develop and validate the Short-Video Applications Addiction Questionnaire (S-VAAQ) and evaluate its reliability and validity among Thai individuals aged 13 years and older. Materials and Methods: The S-VAAQ is a 9-item screening tool adapted from the three core domains of gaming disorder outlined in ICD-11: impaired control over usage, increased priority given to gaming, and continued use despite negative consequences. Items were modified to better reflect short-form video consumption behaviors. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via short-form video platforms and Line, targeting Thai participants aged 13 and above who regularly watched short-form videos and were proficient in Thai. Statistical analyses included content validity index (CVI) assessments by five experts, Cronbach’s alpha for internal consistency, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Results: A total of 1,932 participants aged 13 years and older were included. The median daily duration of short-form video viewing was three hours. All items demonstrated CVI scores exceeding 0.78. The scale exhibited good internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.884. KMO Measure of Sampling Adequacy of 0.898 and EFA revealed factor loadings ranging from 0.594 to 0.904 supporting the scale’s construct validity. Conclusions: In conclusion, the S-VAAQ demonstrated good reliability and validity. This instrument can serve as a useful tool for screening short-form video addiction in the Thai population and support further research and intervention strategies.

The Role of Competency in Mediating the Impact of Training, Education, and Personal Characteristics on Successful Crew Recruitment in Indonesian Shipping Companies

This study examines the determinants of successful crew recruitment in Indonesian shipping companies by analyzing the direct and indirect effects of training, education, and personal characteristics through competency as a mediating variable. Using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS), data from 165 HR division employees across Indonesian shipping companies were analyzed. The outer model evaluation confirmed convergent validity (factor loadings &gt;0.70, AVE &gt;0.50), discriminant validity (Fornell-Larcker criterion and HTMT), and reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha &gt;0.70, Composite Reliability &gt;0.70). The inner model demonstrated strong predictive power with R² values of 0.684 for competency and 0.726 for recruitment success. Hypothesis testing revealed that training, education, and personal characteristics significantly and positively influence both competency and successful crew recruitment. Furthermore, competency significantly mediates these relationships, with mediation effects confirmed through bootstrapping analysis (p 1.96). The findings indicate that competency serves as a critical linking mechanism transforming human capital investments and individual attributes into recruitment success. This research contributes to maritime human resource management theory by demonstrating a dual-pathway model and provides practical implications for enhancing crew selection processes through competency development programs.

Modelling and genetic analysis of the latent variable of lactation performance in Chinese Holstein dairy cows.

The confirmatory factor analysis technique was used to quantify a latent variable for test-day lactation performance (TDLP) in the first parity of Chinese Holstein dairy cows by applying five measurable traits, including test-day milk yield (TDMY), test-day milk fat percentage (TDFP), test-day milk protein percentage (TDPP), test-day somatic cell score (TDSCS) and test-day milk urea nitrogen (TDMUN). The standardised factor loadings of TDMY, TDFP, TDPP, TDSCS, and TDMUN for describing TDLP were 0.46, -0.52, -0.70, -0.14 and -0.19, respectively. Genetic analysis was conducted using a multivariate repeatability model within a Bayesian framework. The posterior means for the heritability and repeatability estimates of TDLP were 0.26±0.02 and 0.34±0.02, respectively. In general, posterior means for heritability and repeatability estimates of the measurable traits were low to medium. The heritability estimates ranged from 0.05 for TDSCS to 0.28 for TDPP, and repeatability estimates ranged from 0.15 for TDMUN to 0.38 for TDMY. The latent variable of TDLP exhibited positive genetic (0.62) and phenotypic (0.40) correlations with TDMY, whereas its genetic and phenotypic correlations with other measurable traits were negative, ranging from -0.96 (TDLP-TDPP) to -0.11 (TDLP-TDSCS). The corresponding phenotypic correlations ranged from -0.85 (TDLP-TDPP) to -0.07 (TDLP-TDSCS). It may be concluded that breeding for higher TDLP might increase TDMY but could reduce milk composition traits. In general, the negative genetic and phenotypic correlations suggest a trade-off between milk quantity (yield) and quality (composition).

Parallel Mediation Analysis of Self-Efficacy and Career Aspiration in the Relationship between Achievement Motivation and Employability

This study examines the relationship between achievement motivation and employability through the mediating roles of self-efficacy and career aspiration among final-year students at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Negeri Semarang. The research explores how psychological mechanisms connect motivation and employability within the university context. A quantitative method was applied using data from 315 students, analyzed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The model showed strong reliability and validity, with factor loadings above 0.70 and composite reliability exceeding 0.90. The findings indicate that achievement motivation significantly affects self-efficacy, career aspiration, and employability. Both self-efficacy and career aspiration have significant effects on employability and mediate the relationship between motivation and employability, with career aspiration showing a stronger contribution. The results highlight how internal motivation and future orientation shape employable behavior and readiness for professional demands, providing theoretical and practical insights for higher education in enhancing students’ motivation and career development.

Building a Sound Foundation: Validity and Reliability Studies of Organizational Prestige Scale

This study develops and psychometrically validates a teacher-focused Organizational Prestige Scale—OPS. An initial 23-item pool, generated through literature synthesis and expert review, was administered to two independent samples of teachers, with 366 participants informing exploratory factor analysis and 199 participants informing confirmatory factor analysis. Sampling adequacy was excellent, with KMO=.952 and a significant Bartlett test. Although three components displayed eigenvalues greater than one, scree and parallel analyses supported a unidimensional structure. Iterative purification yielded an eleven-item form explaining 63.77% of the variance. Corrected item–total correlations ranged from .55 to .87, and factor loadings from .65 to .87, evidencing substantial internal homogeneity. The confirmatory model showed an acceptable to excellent fit: χ²/df=2.35, RMSEA=.08, GFI=.91, AGFI=.87, CFI=.96, NFI=.96, NNFI=.97, IFI=.98, RMR=.04, SRMR=.05. Reliability evidence was strong, with Cronbach’s alpha=.95 and split-half Spearman–Brown=.93. Collectively, the findings indicate that the OPS is a concise, context-appropriate, and psychometrically sound instrument for assessing teachers’ perceptions of organizational prestige. The scale can support exploratory and predictive work on identification, affective commitment, and retention, and can guide institutional diagnostics and leadership decision-making within non-Western public education settings. Future research should examine longitudinal stability, test measurement invariance across subgroups such as tenure, school type, and region, and investigate boundary conditions that link perceived prestige to attitudinal and behavioral outcomes.
