Formation constants for the systems listed in the title and for ethylenediaminediacetic acid (EDDA)—Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) systems are reported and used in computer simulation studies to assess the possibilities of such complexes (a) being formed in vivo, (b) being able to be absorbed into plasma following subcutaneous or oral administration, and (c) being able to mobilize copper from plasma into tissues to treat arthritis. It is concluded that further synthetic, simulation and animal screening studies based upon EDDA are desirable.
