The success of waste paper recycling schemes is very heavily dependent on securing a satisfactory level of public participation. This research is based on a waste paper recycling scheme in the Falkirk area operated by an environmental charity on behalf of a manufacturing company which plans to recycle the paper. A survey was undertaken, which included both participants and non-participants in the scheme, into awareness of, attitude, and behaviour towards the scheme. This survey provided important insights into reasons for participation or otherwise and also action that might be taken to improve future performance.
