Mapping the intellectual structure of microfinance and women's empowerment: A bibliometric analysis

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emphasize promoting and protecting women's rights and privileges. As a result, an increasing body of academic literature describes the various actions taken by different stakeholders to empower women. Amongst the initiatives implemented in many nations, microfinance and financial inclusion programs play a major role. This article aims to present an overview and synthesis of the research on the notion and practices of microfinance and its influence on entrepreneur women's empowerment. In order to do so, this study uses bibliometric techniques over a selection of papers extracted from the Web of Science database, to disentangle the knowledge structure of this academic field. According to our findings, the study of microfinance and women's empowerment is growing, with 470 publications, 963 authors, 67 nations and 36 research areas. Research topics include poverty reduction, gender issues in entrepreneurship, microfinance and women empowerment, and women in microcredit. An additional bibliographic coupling analysis has revealed the hottest research topics, showing the main gaps in the literature that suggest potential directions for future research.

Comprehensive evaluation of rural entrepreneurial environment based on Pressure-State-Response model -evidence from China

Background and aimsThe study of rural entrepreneurial environment is one of the key issues in rural entrepreneurship research.The rural entrepreneurship environment plays a key role in increasing the success rate of farmers' entrepreneurship and promoting their employment. Scientific evaluation of the rural entrepreneurial environment is important for governments to formulate relevant policies and optimize the rural entrepreneurial environment. Methods and resultsThis paper constructs a rural entrepreneurship environment evaluation index system based on PSR (Pressure-State-Response) model.The entropy Weight-TOPSIS method was used to measure the rural entrepreneurship environment in 30 provinces in China, the Gini coefficient was used to explore the regional differences, and the barrier degree model was used to diagnose the barrier factors. The results of the study show that: China's rural entrepreneurship environment has a ladder, the rural entrepreneurship environment is divided into four tiers, Guizhou is in the leading tiers, Shandong and other 13 provinces are in the challenging tiers, Inner Mongolia and other 11 provinces are in the catching-up tiers, and Hainan and other 5 provinces are in the improving tiers. Provincial differences are large, and the regional rural entrepreneurship environment is obviously unbalanced. ConclusionThis paper applies the PSR ("Pressure State Response") model to rural entrepreneurship environment evaluation, analyzes the relationship between the indicators according to the relationship structure of the sub-models in the model, and provides a theoretical basis for the rural entrepreneurship environment evaluation system and scientific evaluation. The rural entrepreneurship evaluation index system is regarded as an ecosystem, and the nonlinear effect between the elements is considered.

Impact of entrepreneurship on technological innovation in the digital age: a knowledge management perspective

PurposeThis study aims to use the knowledge management perspective to examine the mechanism through which entrepreneurship drives firms’ technological innovation in the digital age. The objective is to develop a multi-stage integrated theoretical model to explain how entrepreneurship exerts its influence on firms’ technological innovation with a particular focus on the knowledge management perspective. The findings can be used for the cultivation of entrepreneurship and for the promotion of continuous technological innovation activities.Design/methodology/approachThis study uses a case-based qualitative approach to examine the relationship between entrepreneurship and technological innovation. The authors first analyze the case of SANY and then explore the mechanism of how entrepreneurship can promote a firm’s technological innovation from the perspective of knowledge management based on the technology-organization-environment framework. An integrated theoretical model is then developed in this study.FindingsBased on a case study, the authors propose that there are three main processes of knowledge management in firms’ technological innovation: knowledge acquisition, knowledge integration and knowledge creation. In the process of knowledge acquisition, the joint effects of innovation spirit, learning spirit, cooperation spirit and global vision drive the construction and its healthy development of firms’ innovation ecosystem. In the process of knowledge integration, the joint effects of innovation spirit, cooperation spirit and learning spirit help complete the integration of knowledge and further the accumulation of firms’ core knowledge resources. In the process of knowledge creation, the joint effects of mission spirit, learning spirit and innovation spirit encourage the top management team to establish long-term goals and innovation philosophy. This philosophy can promote the establishment of a people-oriented incentive mechanism that helps achieve the transformation from the accumulation of core knowledge resources to the research and innovation of core technologies. After these three stages, firms are passively engaged in the “reverse transfer of knowledge” step, which contributes to other firms’ knowledge management cycle. With active knowledge acquisition, integration, creation and passive reverse knowledge transfer, firms can achieve continuous technological innovation.Research limitations/implicationsThis study has important theoretical implications in entrepreneurship research. This study helps advance the understanding of entrepreneurship and literature on the relationship between entrepreneurship and technological innovation in the digital age, which can broaden the application of knowledge management theories. It can also help better understand how to develop healthy firm-led innovation ecosystems to achieve continuous optimization of knowledge and technological innovation in the digital age.Originality/valueThis study proposes an integrated theoretical model to address the issues of entrepreneurship and firms’ technological innovation in the digital age, and it is also one of few studies that focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation from a knowledge management perspective.

The relevance of the study of family entrepreneurship is connected with the Year of the Family announced in Russia. The article analyzes the problems of family business: from taxation and legitimate fixation in the legislation to support measures. The examples of the survey of respondents-participants of family business trace the practical significance of family entrepreneurship for society. The events held by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for family businesses are analyzed, in which, as an assistant, information and registration and commercial Internet space and information resources, for example, «Family Companies of Russia» are highlighted. Based on the results of the study, the authors conclude that it is necessary to further improve the legislation in terms of regulation of family entrepreneurship issues.

Competency mediates the influence of talent, interpersonal skills, and motivation on work ethic in entrepreneurial students

Work ethic is currently a strategic entrepreneurship issue. Gaps were still found in previous studies. This study uses an alternative research model by placing the competency variable as a mediating variable. Such a model is the novelty of this research. The research aims to analyze the influence of talent, interpersonal skills, and motivation variables on work ethic through competency mediation in entrepreneurial students in Semarang. This research uses a sample of 120 respondents. Data was collected using a questionnaire instrument and distributed to respondents via Google Forms. The measurement scale uses a Likert scale with five response points. This research processed data using SmartPLS, starting with validity and reliability tests, then descriptive statistical analysis, and ending with inferential analysis. This study uses a significance-level test to test the hypothesis. Valid and reliable data can be identified through validity and reliability tests. The analysis results show that work ethic is influenced by 62 percent by the interpersonal skills-motivation variable, while competence is influenced by 59 percent by the talent-interpersonal skills-motivation variable. The results show that competence plays a role as a mediation between interpersonal skills and work ethic, as well as between motivation and work ethic, but does not mediate between talent and work ethic.

New data and descriptor for crowdfunding and renewable energy

This work exhibits an extensive panel dataset and data descriptor on the crowdfunding-renewable energy nexus. This new source of data may find large use in energy economics, econometrics and policy, as well as financial and microfinance analysis. The referred dataset is made of 4704 observations to related to crowdfunding campaigns from 2009 to 2021. Data can be used for diverse energy econometrics studies and data analysis, especially for socioeconomic and environmental aspects of energy innovation and efficiency investigations. The contribution offered by this paper is the correlation between two salient aspects for the first time. We have cross-referenced the data related to crowdfunding campaigns with the sustainable orientation of the countries. The extrapolated data from two datasets—i.e., Zephyr Bureau Van Dijk and the World Bank’s World Development Indicators—form a new dataset that serves as a tool, as well as a guide, for future studies related to renewable energy, fintech, economic, innovation and entrepreneurship issues. Moreover, this contribution may stimulate the development of new policies and strategies aimed at supporting the transition towards the circular economy and sustainable development by creating positive externalities on a large scale by increasing social welfare and resilience applications.

The gender gap in PhD entrepreneurship: Why balancing employment in academia really matters

We use original data from a questionnaire survey of 9062 individuals enrolled in PhD programmes in Italy between 2008 and 2014 to conduct an empirical investigation of gender issues in PhD entrepreneurship. The analysis focuses on the influence of the gender balance among academics at the parent university, to measure the opportunities available to female students to engage with same-sex role models and the effect of such engagement on female students' attitudes to applied research and entrepreneurship. Our evidence shows that there is a gender gap in PhD student entrepreneurship and suggests that the gender composition of the academic faculty has a significant impact on female students' attitudes to business-oriented research and its commercialisation, which, in turn, affects their entrepreneurial intention and probability of starting a business. Our results indicate that female students' entrepreneurship would benefit from the opportunities offered by a more gender-balanced work environment and reinforces arguments calling for equality in the academic workplace.

Entrepreneurial skills assessment of library and information science faculty and academic librarians in Nigeria: issues and prospects

Entrepreneurial skills are considered one of the most important competencies expected to be possessed by Library and Information Science (LIS) faculty and academic librarians as information professionals. These skills include technical skills, managerial skills, business skills, personal maturity skills, ICT skills and information literacy skills. The context observation and literature review indicated limited research on the entrepreneurial skills of Library and Information Science (LIS) faculty and academic librarians in Nigerian universities. The need to fill this inadvertently created gap initiated this study. The study aimed to assess entrepreneurial skills level as well as identify entrepreneurship issues and prospects of LIS faculty and academic librarians in South-West Nigerian universities with library schools. This paper was anchored on survey research design. The study employed the total enumeration method to cover all LIS faculty and academic librarians in these universities. An adapted structured questionnaire was administered and responses were analyzed quantitatively using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed lackluster technical, business and ICT skills of these information professionals including unacceptable managerial skills. Furthermore, entrepreneurship issues showed government-centered, institutional and personal subjects such as government policies, economic problems, legal registration, funding, excessive workload and lack of entrepreneurial attitude. The study also uncovered dwindling entrepreneurship prospects. The study recommends premeditated efforts by LIS faculty and academic librarians and universities at entrepreneurial development and the advancement of citizen-friendly entrepreneurial policies and a blueprint by the government.

The Trends in Entrepreneurship and STEM Education Studies: A Bibliometric Study

STEM education and entrepreneurship have gained increasing attention with the advancement of technology and globalization. Various research has shown the importance of STEM education and entrepreneurship separately, but a growing number of studies is now to point to their connection due to the utmost importance of innovation in STEM. The results of a non-systematic literature review, however, indicate that although there is review research on STEM education and entrepreneurship separately, there is no research on their relationship. This study examines the relationship between STEM education and entrepreneurship using bibliometric and co-occurrence analyses to identify trends and suggest future research directions. Using the Web of Science database, 2865 publications were identified on the topic. Following the selection and eligibility process, the study was conducted with remaining 61 publications. The Vosviewer and HistCite software were used for the analysis. The analysis focused on the distribution of the research categories according to the number of publications, distribution of publications according to the yearly citations, countries, and authors, the trending keywords, and the analysis of the journals. The results showed that the topic is becoming more popular between education and educational research as well as business and management. There was significant increase in the studies published in 2020, which may be the result of government documents published in this year. This study shows the need for further research on entrepreneurship and STEM and recommends future research to focus more on the importance of sustainability and gender issues in entrepreneurship and STEM integration.

The impact of leadership behaviors on startup's entrepreneurship in Vietnamese Southern areas in the time of Covid-19

PurposeThis paper examines the impact of leadership behaviors on startup's entrepreneurship in Vietnamese southern areas in the time of Covid-19.Design/methodology/approachThe paper uses OLS regression model to evaluate the impact of leadership behaviors on startup's entrepreneurship in Vietnamese southern areas. Besides, the paper also uses AHP method to identify the factors that influence leadership behaviors in startups in the context of economic shock like the Covid-19 pandemic.FindingsResults reveal that the transformational leadership behavior has a positive correlation with startup's entrepreneurship while the transactional and laissez-faire leadership behaviors are negatively related to startup's entrepreneurship. In addition, using AHP method, certain determinants of leadership behaviors in startups have been specified; among which, the most profound influencing factors are respectively hi-tech use (0.081), training policy (0.079) and check (0.78). In contrast, the factors with negligible impacts include recruitment policy (0.004) and culture (0.037) in startups in the context of economic shock like the Covid-19 pandemic.Research limitations/implicationsThis research only evaluates this impact in the Covid-19 times. In the future, comparisons between the time after the Covid-19 at traditional enterprises and state enterprises are to be done to clarify the difference of this impact.Practical implicationsBy using OLS model and AHP model with the data collected from 209 start-ups, the paper examines the impact of leadership behaviors on start-up's entrepreneurship in the time context of economic shock like the Covid-19 pandemic and propose some recommendations to enhance entrepreneurship in startups in the developing countries.Social implicationsThis study is a step forward in the entrepreneurship research branch that investigates the entrepreneurship issue from the perspectives of social and interpersonal processes. With the identification of the leadership behaviors’ role in shaping start-up's entrepreneurship come highly applicable implications towards the emergence of more effective entrepreneurial startups in the time of Covid-19 and this prevalent digital context.Originality/valueWith the identification of the leadership behaviors' role in shaping startup's entrepreneurship come highly applicable implications toward the emergence of more effective entrepreneurial startups in the time of Covid-19 and this prevalent digital context. This study is conducted to analyze the impact of leadership behaviors on startup's entrepreneurship in the southern areas of Viet Nam having the most startups but affected the most seriously by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has not research on this topic for startups in a developing country like Vietnam in the context of an economic shock.

A Comprehensive Dataset for Bibliometric Analysis of Sustainable Entrepreneurship with Augmented Bibliometric Approach

Objective: The issue of Sustainable Entrepreneurship (SE) has attracted significant attention in recent years, aligning with the concerted global efforts to carry out the SDGs for 2030. Hence, this study aimed to analyze state of the art in SE research to navigate the result of international publication trends regarding SE for 20 years. Design/Methods/Approach: This study uses bibliometric analysis to explore the evolution of streams of 338 papers from the Scopus database spanning from 2003 to 2022, including identifying the evolution of publications, contributions of authors, countries, and core journals to a field. In addition, we use the Augmented Bibliometric Approach by mapping and visualizing trend analysis of bibliographic coupling, co-citation, and co-author relationships of datasets, using VOSviewer 1.6.19. Findings: The result showed a consistent upward trajectory in publications from 2015 onwards. Furthermore, our study showed influential authors, papers, countries, and journals within this domain. Originality/Value: This study contributes to elucidating the evolution of SE, serving as a valuable resource for future studies, aiding in the formulation of theoretical frameworks, and facilitating advancements in this area. Practical/Policy implication: Given the results, managers should apply various techniques to minimize the negative impact of their business continuity, a strategic approach towards the triple bottom line. Practitioners and policymakers should be able to interpret innovations in sustainability assessment systems further to enable them to formulate policies, strategies, and guidelines to promote the sustainable development agenda (SDGs).

Artisan entrepreneurship, resilience and sustainable development: the quintuple helix innovation model in the low-density and cross-border territories

PurposeThe aim of this study is, from the perspective of artisan entrepreneurship, to trace and analyse the artisan's profile in the sustainable development of low population density cross-border territories, using the quintuple helix innovation model.Design/methodology/approachTen semi-structured interviews were conducted with cultural and traditional artisans to achieve the proposed objective using a qualitative approach. The artisans are from Northeast Portugal (Bragança, Miranda do Douro, Mogadouro, Vimioso and Vinhais) and Northern Spain (Province of Zamora). The interviews were conducted face-to-face between May and June 2022. The interviews were manually transcribed and subjected to content and lexical analyses using IRaMuTeQ software.FindingsAn artisan was identified as an enterprising individual whose marketed handicraft pieces transmit the values and teachings of his community. Innovation, technology, sustainability and circular economy in a family environment, where dedication, resilience, happiness and hard work transmit an identity that places the artisan and his artisan practice as the driving force for the enhancement and promotion of his territory, cultural heritage and identity.Originality/valueThis work is the first study to address and treat the issue of artisan entrepreneurship by analysing and defining the cultural-based and traditional artisan profile in a cross-border and low population density territorial context.

РОЗВИТОК СОЦІАЛЬНОГО ПІДПРИЄМНИЦТВА В УКРАЇНІ

The article is devoted to the issue of relevance and development of social entrepreneurship in Ukraine. Social entrepreneurship is a relevant way of development of any society, as it combines a social mission with a business approach. The relevance of social entrepreneurship is determined by the fact that it can provide solutions to social problems that cannot be solved by the state or commercial organizations. Social enterprises can work in such sectors as health care, education, ecology, social assistance, and others. They ensure the development of socio-economic systems and reduce the impact of inequality on society. The article examines the factors that influence the growing popularity of the implementation of social entrepreneurship, among which the need for innovation, increasing public interest in social issues, and others can be highlighted. Based on this, the advantages and disadvantages of social enterprises were determined. The experience of conducting this form of business in the most successful European countries, such as Great Britain, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, is also analyzed. There are many successful examples of social enterprises implemented in Ukraine. The authors also proposed several ways of implementing social entrepreneurship projects with the aim of post-war recovery of Ukraine. The purpose of the article is to clarify the basic principles of social entrepreneurship, the reasons for its growing popularity in Europe and Ukraine in particular. Also, to analyze the experience of the most successful European countries in the implementation and support of social enterprises, as well as to investigate aspects of the development of this business in Ukraine. To propose possible options for the post-war recovery of Ukraine through the implementation of social entrepreneurship projects. Even though the number of scientists who researched the issue of social entrepreneurship is large, in today's realities there are very few works that consider the issue of social entrepreneurship as part of the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. The authors show in the article that social enterprises create innovative solutions for social problems, create new jobs and reduce unemployment. They also provide affordable services for the population, solve problems in the fields of education, health care and ecology

Entrepreneurship as an occupational choice

This article aims to consider the entrepreneurship as an occupational choice and to understand the flow among different forms of occupations. Professionally active people may decide to start their own business or find hired employment as an option of professional occupation, the main difference being the fact that an entrepreneur makes entrepreneurial pro fits with the risk of failure, while an employed person receives risk–free remuneration. The choice of the form of professional activity depends on the perception of attractiveness of both forms, people who perceive entrepreneurial profits as more beneficial than workers’ wages more likely decide to become entrepreneurs than waged employees. However, i n the presented paper, the choice is considered not only between entrepreneurship and employment but also concerns the scale of entrepreneur ship. When starting one’s own business, people also need to decide whether they will hire employees and become proper entrepreneurs or whet her they will abandon the idea of hiring employees and become quasi entrepreneurs, also known as solo entrepreneurs. The issue of entrepreneurship as an occupational choice is presented empirically using the time series data for Poland on a quarterly basis in the years 2003–2018. The influence of the overall economic situation, which determines business opportunities and average salaries, on the choice between a pro per entrepreneur, a quasi–entrepreneur and a hired worker is presented with the use of regression analysis. The results show that changes in the overall economic situation and in the level of average wages lead to flows between proper entrepreneurs and quasi–entrepreneurs, and thus, to changes in the employment structure. Improving market conditions encourage people to follow the path of proper entrepreneurship or to become hired workers, while abandoning quasi entrepreneurship. The deterioration of business opportunities, in turn, is the reason for the reduction of entrepreneurship and employment downsizing, at the same time leading to an increase in the number of quasi entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship in Sport: Sport in Business, Using Professional Football as an Example

The issue of entrepreneurship in sports joins the more general trend of catching up with the long Renaissance period of “reflecting” on the character of the professional sportsman (athlete), so peculiarly overlooked, and one of the main protagonists of the culture of antiquity, alongside the artist or philosopher. The author of the article adopts the convention of the ‘corporate athlete’, for which he sees a contemporary exemplification in football, the most popular sport. The examples cited from the economic history of football, preceded by an outline of the basic categories of entrepreneurship, are an attempt to show the essence of an economic, two-way view of these issues. The description of the institutionalisation of analytics and football’s ‘information bank’, highlights the effectiveness of an interdisciplinary approach to entrepreneurship in sport. In contrast, the characterisation of the re-engineering carried out at FC Barcelona is a case of an approach that treats sport as a natural economic environment. Providing a wholesome, inspirational building block, grounding some elements of management and entrepreneurial.

CONDITIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE MUNICIPALITIES OF THE KRAKOW METROPOLITAN AREA

Entrepreneurship depends on many interrelated conditions. Creating favorable conditions for conducting business activity and attracting potential investors is one of the main tasks of local government units, with particular emphasis on communes. The vicinity of large urban centers proves to be helpful in this regard. As a generator of development, the metropolis enters into functional interactions with neighboring units, providing them with spatial, economic and social potential. The paper attempts to assess the conditions for creating new enterprises in the communes that are under the influence of the Krakow Metropolitan Area (KMA). The following conditions were analysed: housing infrastructure resources, labor supply, including specialist staff, and business environment institutions. It has been shown that the perception of entrepreneurship issues depends on the distance from the KMA core. In communes adjacent to Krakow, the positive impact of the proximity of the metropolis on the creation of new business entities was more often noticed. However, the close location of the metropolis core also has negative effects. Communes located in the immediate vicinity emphasize the deterioration of spatial order and the excessive burden on local budgets with the need to carry out investments in the development of infrastructure serving companies and new residents. Zones under the influence of metropolitan areas are characterized by more favorable conditions for the development of enterprises.

Kapter: pursuing innovation and competitive advantage in the Mexican B2B ecosystem

Learning outcomes The learning outcomes are as follows: to assess the competitive position of a small business-to-business (B2B) company to remain competitive in a developing country; to identify and shape the business opportunity that represents serving small and medium enterprises that would lead to competitive positioning in the B2B environment; and to compare innovation and commercialization projects through strategic dimensions related to managing a technology company in a way that fosters business profitability and growth. Case overview/Synopsis Margarita Kaplun, founder and CEO of Kapter, a small company providing country-wide technical and consultant services on thermography to industrial hubs in Mexico, had positioned the company as a reputed provider. However, the company had experienced razor-thin margins. Margarita needs to decide whether they pursue the following grant to fund a project on technology development that will source the competitive position or pursue a commercial project that help them achieve a larger customer base to reap higher income.
