Data Analysis in Factors of Social Entrepreneurship Tools in Complex Thinking: An exploratory study

This work presents the results of an exploratory pilot that analyzes the factors that influence self-reported social entrepreneurship competency and previous family backgrounds that might positively influence the development of the set of sub-competencies of complex thinking. It has been observed that individuals who put into practice the competencies that make up complex thinking perform better in overcoming the challenges of generating social value in contemporary society. Data were collected from a convenience sample of 47 students attending a private Higher Education Institution in Mexico using the “Profile of the Social Entrepreneur Instrumentóó. The data analysis comprised 1) validation of the instruments reliability, 2) tendencies and the frequency distribution of the data, 3) grouping by entrepreneurial family background, 4) the principal component analysis and 5) a clustering analysis. Our results support that forming Complex Thinking competencies for social entrepreneurship is not directly influenced by previous family experiences. Still, they recognize that these experiences are relevant in helping students become familiar with entrepreneurship-related issues. This paper empirically supports the hypotheses that social entrepreneurship experiences affect the correlations between social innovations and resolving complex global public problems.

Entrepreneurship Education: Encouraging Entrepreneurial Intentions for Equality Education Students in Semarang

This study aimed to determine the factors that influence students' entrepreneurial intentions and the influence of entrepreneurship education on students' intention to become entrepreneurs. This research study used a mixed methods approach. The collection of research data was carried out with the help of a questionnaire (for quantitative data) and through group discussion forums (for qualitative data). Respondents in the study were 100 students who attended equality education in Semarang. This shows found there is a difference between the levels of interest of students who take part in entrepreneurship learning and those who do not. Family background and income have positive effects on students' intentions to become entrepreneurs. Students with entrepreneurial family backgrounds tend to be more interested in becoming entrepreneurs than students who do not have an entrepreneurial family background. In addition, students' perspectives on entrepreneurship positively affected their entrepreneurial intentions. Significance: Students' perspectives on entrepreneurship are related to their motivation to start new businesses that would be easily accepted by the social environment. All respondents agreed that entrepreneurial intentions could be improved through the role of entrepreneurship education during inequality education. To ensure the education is more targeted and all entrepreneurship education goals are achieved, it should have more effective curricula, methods, and learning system models. Cooperation between all elements incorporated in the entrepreneurship education system is indispensable for generating successful young entrepreneurs through entrepreneurship education.

The effect of relational support, educational support, personal attitudes and uncertainty on entrepreneurial intentions: An empirical investigation of university students

Entrepreneurship is identical with the risk of uncertain environment or market. This risk makes many university graduates hesitant about pursuing a career as an entrepreneur. So that universities play an important role in producing graduates who are ready for entrepreneurship, to support them in terms of education, in addition to several other supporting factors such as family, friends, and especially themselves. This research objective is to analyze the effect of educational support, relational support, personal attitudes, and uncertainty on entrepreneurial intents. State university students in East Java, Indonesia, became the population in this study. This area was chosen because it is the biggest contributor to successful entrepreneurs in Indonesia. This study used a sample of 113 students. Although limited in number, they were evenly sourced from large and well-known universities, and a good entrepreneurial atmosphere was provided for the students. Statistical tests with AMOS were used to test this relationship. Normality assumption test, validity and reliability test, as well as hypothesis testing, are directed to look for the importance of the connection. Relational support has the strongest influence, followed by personal attitude, uncertainty, and the lowest is educational support. These results indicate that internal forces exert a stronger effect than external stimuli. This study found that academy graduates choose careers as entrepreneurs through various considerations. The strongest consideration is relational support. Those with an entrepreneurial family background have a stronger intention to be entrepreneurs.

Successful IT Entrepreneurship in Nigeria: The Contingent Role of Mentorship

ABSTRACT This paper principally explores the determinants of successful information technology entrepreneurship in Nigeria’s IT sector. It further examines the moderating effect of mentorship (either by an IT practitioner or a non-IT practitioner) in the correlation between the independent variables of interest and dependent variable. Literature from the developed markets underscores a positive relationship between training and successful entrepreneurship. However, such relationship is seldom explored within the context of developing markets such as Nigeria. Thus, this paper explores the impact of specific factors such as IT-focused entrepreneurial training, being born by entrepreneur parents, business school training, faith in a supernatural and mentorship on IT entrepreneurial success A quantitative research design involving a web-based survey was used to collect data among 297 participants. All collected data were screened and analyzed using binary logistic regression and Exploratory Factor Analysis. The results showed that IT entrepreneurs who are born by entrepreneur parents are more likely to succeed than those without such family backgrounds. Also, the attendance of a business school is a significant predictive factor for IT entrepreneurial success in Nigeria. Surprisingly, no significant correlation exists between formal education in the IT field and IT entrepreneurial success. Further, no significant moderating effect of mentorship was present. This implies that IT entrepreneurs in Nigeria need to harness the benefits of entrepreneurial family background and business school education to sustainably grow their businesses and become successful. Also, committed federal government backing is needed to introduce innovative entrepreneurial initiatives to improve competence among IT entrepreneurs in Nigeria. General business/management training is needed besides conventional IT training as the former is a better predictor of success among IT entrepreneurs. Finally, trainings need to focus on building competencies for relationship management to aid access to resources for innovation and growth. Future studies should consider a qualitative approach to investigating the mediating impact of mentorship on IT entrepreneurship success in Nigeria.

Long-term persistence in entrepreneurship: the case of post-socialist Czechia (1930–2011)

ABSTRACT This paper explores the long-term persistence of interregional differences in self-employment rates. The analysis, based on spatial Durbin error models, was performed for 206 Czech regions from 1930 to 2011. The results obtained supported the ‘persistence claim’ because regional self-employment rates in 1930 were found to be positively and significantly associated with those obtained in 1991, 2001 and 2011. Moreover, this study contributes to the knowledge about transmission channels of historical entrepreneurial experience. First, a new mechanism related to the career and educational paths of individuals with a pre-socialist entrepreneurial family background is suggested. Second, the newcomers’ capacity to absorb knowledge and skills is emphasized as crucial for the functioning of pre-socialist ‘entrepreneurial memory’.

Effects of Entrepreneurial Family Background on Students' Entrepreneurial Intention: A Study at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Jeli Campus and Universiti Utara Malaysia, Sintok Campus

The purpose of this study is to analyse the determinants of students' intention towards entrepreneurship. This study used the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) represented by three variables (attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behaviour control) and family background as the determinant that could influence students' intention to become an entrepreneur. A total sample of 489 university students from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Jeli Campus and Universiti Utara Malaysia, Sintok Campus was used in the analysis. Results from the study indicated that perceived behaviour control had a significant relationship towards students' intention to become an entrepreneur. At the same time, attitudes and subjective norms were not significantly related to students' intention towards entrepreneurship. This study also examined the impact of entrepreneurial family background as a mediating factor in the relationships between attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behaviour control towards students' entrepreneurial intentions. The findings can contribute to new knowledge in the field of the family business and have practical implications in entrepreneurship education for university students.

Entrepreneurial Willingness, Practice, and Management Path of College Graduates in a Green Development Environment.

Before entrepreneurial behavior occurs, individual personality traits have a very important impact on the formation of entrepreneurial willingness. The purpose of this research is to explore the entrepreneurial intention, practice, and management path of college graduates in a green development environment. In this study, three dimensions of green entrepreneurial traits (risk propensity, ecological values, and social responsibility) and three dimensions of green entrepreneurial motivation (fame and fortune motive, spiritual motive and responsibility motive, and green entrepreneurial intention) are determined, and a questionnaire is compiled. Then, the questionnaire survey data of college graduates is collected, and a structural equation model is constructed. The influence of risk tendency, ecological values, and social responsibility on green entrepreneurship motivation is studied in turn, and the influence of fame and fortune motive, spiritual motive, and responsibility motive on green entrepreneurship willingness is explored. Finally, the mediating role of the three dimensions of green entrepreneurial motivation in the influence of green entrepreneurial traits on green entrepreneurial willingness is tested. The study finds that the average score of families with entrepreneurial experience was 4.0526. The average score of families without entrepreneurial experience was 3.6463, and the significance index was at the level of 0.001. The same results as previous scholars have appeared, that is, students with entrepreneurial family background have stronger (green) entrepreneurial willingness. Green entrepreneurship creates green value through green products or services, drives green consumption, leads green values, and contributes to the sustainable development of society and ecology.

Entrepreneurship Learning Analysis on The Interest Entrepreneur Trough Subjective Norm and Attitudes in Students Of Economic Faculty Economy UNPAZ

This study aims to determine the effect of the interested entrepreneur to entrepreneur learning through subjective norms and attitudes on Unpaz Students of the Faculty of Economics. The method used in this research is a quantitative method by using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) AMOS. The sample used in this study were students UNPAZ Faculty of Economics majoring in Accounting, Management, and Banking totaling 187 students. This research data collection methods by using a questionnaire with Likert scale. The results of this study are entrepreneurial learning, subjective norms, attitude to entrepreneurs have a significant and positive influence on entrepreneurs’ intention. Meanwhile, entrepreneurial learning also has a significant and positive effect on the subjective norm. Four variables showed Da Paz implication that the University should provide an opportunity to the students a lot of activity in the field, sharing with colleagues who merged his business. Students are taught to try to learn the business from the communities around and from an entrepreneurial family background, always creative and read a great opportunity to succeed and never give up until achieving success

Entrepreneurship Education and Founding Passion: The Moderating Role of Entrepreneurial Family Background.

In this paper, we examine the relationship between entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial passion. Despite the advancement of entrepreneurship education literature and the increasing focus on entrepreneurship education in business schools, we lack empirical exploration on how entrepreneurship education can impact students’ passion for founding new organizations. We hypothesize that students who take entrepreneurship classes would develop high levels of founding passion due to a great perception of skills and abilities that increase positive emotions and decrease negative emotions about the entrepreneurship process. Moreover, we draw on the literature on role models to suggest that students’ entrepreneurial family background (students whose immediate family members are entrepreneurs) strengthens the influence of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial passion. Utilizing survey data collected from 160 university students, we found that entrepreneurship education positively influences students’ founding passion and that this relationship is strengthened when students have entrepreneurs in their immediate family.

Entrepreneurial prospects and challenges for women amidst COVID-19: a case study of Delhi, India

PurposeThis paper aims to encapsulate the gendered support and hindering factors along with the role of the state experienced by Delhi-based women entrepreneurs in setting up/operating their enterprises amidst the challenges posed by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThe study used mixed methods to explore the challenges faced and recovery mechanisms adopted by women entrepreneurs with special reference to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 50 Delhi-based young women entrepreneurs (42 actual entrepreneurs + 8 prospective/struggling entrepreneurs) selected using snowball/purposive sampling were studied through both a semi-structured questionnaire and personal interviews. National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) were consulted for the government’s policy documents and data. The SPSS package was used for quantitative data analysis.FindingsLow-budget/very small-scale women entrepreneurs face common as well as gender-based challenges in the context of the market, finance, social capital, family support and awareness in addition to accessing the state’s resources/policies in both their startups and crisis situations, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Although gender sensitization, entrepreneurial family background, and equal access to technology and the Internet has enabled women entrepreneurs to initiate, adapt, and scale their enterprises, male domination within the family, society, market, and state apparatuses is omnipresent and has served as a bottleneck for women-owned startups while hindering the recovery of their enterprises amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.Research limitations/implicationsThe study was limited to exploring the challenges and prospects of Delhi-based women entrepreneurs at the beginning of their enterprises and amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the study had access to data and facts announced by the Indian government. No data were available on the implementation of policies and programs, and therefore specific policy analysis was not attempted. However, the reachability and accessibility of government resources and policies were employed.Practical implicationsThe study highlights the complexity of patriarchy, which hampers women entrepreneurs in all family, society, market and state domains. Therefore, policy enactment and implementation and further research on women entrepreneurship are suggested to focus more deeply on the gender dimension.Originality/valueThe data used in this work comprised inputs from government sources as well as insights from fieldwork that have not been used by any other publication.

Entrepreneurs’ competencies and networking as determinants of women-owned ventures success in post-economic crisis era in Greece

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine factors leading to venture success, emphasizing the role of entrepreneurs as critical in the whole process, based on a sample of women entrepreneurs. Drawing upon the competence-based view of the firm, it examines the effect of entrepreneurial competencies, managerial competencies and reliance on networks toward increased female venture success rates.Design/methodology/approachA structured questionnaire was allocated to women entrepreneurs to seek respondents’ perceptions. Principal component analysis (PCA) with varimax rotation was undertaken to confirm the constructs’ validity. A hierarchical regression analysis was performed to test the hypotheses.FindingsNetworking stands out as having the most significant positive effect on venture success while entrepreneurial and managerial core competencies are both important, with entrepreneurial competencies demonstrating a slightly higher score. Also, years of entrepreneurial experience, entrepreneurial family background and family status prove significant.Research limitations/implicationsThe study confirms prior research, highlighting the role of entrepreneurs as central, sharpening understanding of the required determinants of venture success. It further provides new insight into venture success from the perspective of the competence-based theory, highlighting clear-cut competencies.Practical implicationsThe study paves the way for the design of entrepreneurial learning programs targeting entrepreneurs and particularly females, highlighting the need for on-going education and educational programs to support entrepreneurs and distinctly women.Originality/valueThe study contributes to the effective management of venture progress and success and provides insight into entrepreneurs and policymakers.

A developing-country perspective on tourism students’ entrepreneurial intention using trait approach and family tradition

ABSTRACT By adopting the conceptual model from Altinay et al.'s study of 2012 on the influence of family tradition and psychological traits on entrepreneurial intention, the current paper aims to investigate the effects of reportedly most cited psychological traits including; locus of control, innovativeness, need for achievement, tolerance for ambiguity, and risk-taking tendency along with entrepreneurial family background or family tradition on entrepreneurial intent of tourism and hospitality students in Iran. The adoption of this holistic approach in a country characterized by economic and political instability would enrich the literature on entrepreneurial traits, family tradition, and risk-taking propensity. Making use of improved survey instruments of some of the constructs, the study also provides the possibility of more accurate measurements including between-groups comparison of students’ entrepreneurial intention. Moreover, applying percentile bootstrapping approach, more valid estimations of mediating relationships were achieved. The findings indicate that while enterprise intent is low with those from entrepreneurial families, the intent was significantly and positively affected by tolerance of ambiguity, need for achievement, and risk-taking propensity but not by locus of control and innovativeness. Concerning the mediating effects of risk-taking, only need for achievement and tolerance for ambiguity were able to indirectly influence the intent.

THE INFLUENCE OF ENTREPRENEURIAL PASSION AND CREATIVITY ON ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTIONS

ABSTRACT Purpose: This study aims to analyze the influence of entrepreneurial passion and creativity on entrepreneurial intent. It also examines the mediating role of entrepreneurial self-efficacy between the personal/cognitive variable and entrepreneurial intention. Originality/value: By stressing the importance of cognitive and emotional variables that may influence entrepreneurial intentions among university students (such as creativity and entrepreneurial passion), this study shows the important role that universities have in the development of entrepreneurial intent. According to the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), the environment influences individual behavior and, therefore, universities should encourage an entrepreneurial environment, enabling the creation of new jobs and companies. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected through a survey with business and technology students from a Brazilian university. In total, 338 valid responses were obtained, which were analyzed through structural equation modeling. The data were collected in a cross-sectional manner and by a stratified and non-probability sampling method. To address the research hypothesis and to attain the objectives of the study, all constructs were adapted from relevant literature in the field of entrepreneurship. The structural model was examined in relation to the model fit, which enabled the hypothesis to be tested. Findings: Results showed both a direct and indirect positive relationship between entrepreneurial passion on entrepreneurial intention. Regarding the creativity factor, results indicated only an indirect effect of creativity on entrepreneurial intention, this relationship being mediated through entrepreneurial self-efficacy. No significant differences were found in the model regarding age, gender, graduation program, entrepreneurial family background, role models or family income.

Entrepreneurs’ planning behavior and new firm performance

PurposeDrawing on institutional logics theory, this paper aims to examine the determinants of entrepreneurs’ planning behavior in the first years of 212 Spanish new firms. Additionally, this study identifies four different planning profiles: systematic planner, early planner, late planner and non-planner.Design/methodology/approachThis study’s data structure is a (yearly) pooled cross-sectional time series. This paper investigates the determinants of planning behaviors among entrepreneurs, as well as the impact of that activity on new firm performance (i.e. employment growth).FindingsThe results confirm the relevance of institutional forces in explaining the involvement of founders of new firms upon planning activities. Institutional factors, in the form of public external support seem to explain early- and systematic-planner behavior while the influence of entrepreneurial family background does so with late-planner behavior.Originality/valueThe authors focus their attention on two key moments of a new venture’ life: the first year of operation and once the firm has overcome the four-year hurdle that is often used to distinguish new from established businesses. Four different patterns emerge: systematic planner (those who consistently plan over time), early planner (those who engage in planning activities in the early moments of the firm’s life but not later), late planner (those who do not plan at the beginning but end up conducting planning activities a few years later) and non-planner (those who never get involved in planning activities). This new division is an interesting additional feature of this study.

The Impact of the Family Background on Students’ Entrepreneurial Intentions: An Empirical Analysis

In the current economic and social environment, a real challenge for youth is the acquisition and development of the relevant skills in entrepreneurship in order to consider entrepreneurship as a desirable employment choice. Given this aspect, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the main factors influencing students’ entrepreneurial intentions, paying particular attention to their entrepreneurial family background. Additionally, the paper aims to explore the effect of entrepreneurial family background on the relationship between effectiveness of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention. We conducted a study where results were based on the outcomes of a survey among Romanian high school and university students in the final year (N = 617). Our four main hypotheses were tested through independent samples t-tests, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The findings highlighted that the students with an entrepreneurial family background reported a higher entrepreneurial intention than those without such a background. The variables that positively influenced the entrepreneurial intentions of the students were entrepreneurial family background, effectiveness of entrepreneurship education, and entrepreneurial personality traits. Furthermore, this entrepreneurial family background negatively moderated the relationship between effectiveness of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention. For this reason, emphasis should be placed on both formal and informal entrepreneurial education, which will increase the propensity of young people to choose an entrepreneurial career.

Studi Tentang Pengaruh Latar Belakang Keluarga Terhadap Intensi Kewirausahaan Siswa SMKN Se-Kabupaten Bangka

The problem in this study is the increase in unemployment in vocational high schools (SMK) caused by differences between student expertise and corporate culture. This study discusses the family background of influencing entrepreneurial intentions. The research method used was an explanatory survey using a questionnaire as an instrument using a Likert scale of 1-5. The population in this study were all students of class XII SMK in Bangka Regency. The sample in this study consisted of 320 students. Based on the results of the study showed that family background influences the intention of entrepreneurship significantly, both partially and simultaneously. Students who have an entrepreneurial family background have an average score higher than students who have a family background rather than an entrepreneur. The findings on the measurement of the intention of entrepreneurship plan indicators totaled to 4,51, meaning students have a high seriousness of thinking and planning regarding opening a new business. The second highest indicator is the desire of 4.12, meaning students have the desire to be independent and will be in the future. The highest indicator is a preference of 4,00, meaning that students prefer entrepreneurship as a career choice in the future when choosing a career again as a worker. It can be concluded that the intention of entrepreneurship students in vocational schools in Bangka Regency is high in category. Keywords : family background, entrepreneurship intention

Measuring the impact of business management Student's attitude towards entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intention: A case study

Entrepreneurship has played an essential role in economic prosperity and social stability of many developed countries. India has the highest percentage of young population in the world and faces massive challenges with its high levels of unemployment among the youth. The unemployment scenario primarily due to lack of skill and entrepreneurial awareness among youth. The objectives of this study were to (1) examine the cognitive, affective, and behavioural components of students’ attitude towards entrepreneurship education in Indian universities/colleges, (2) measuring the impact of students' attitude towards entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intention (3) examine the role of control variables (e.g. gender and entrepreneurial family background), on the relationship between attitude towards entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention. The respondents were students from different business management colleges/universities in central India. Purposive sampling technique was used in the selection of the colleges/universities, while simple random sampling was employed in the selection of the respondents. Data from five hundred nine filled questionnaire were analysed using ‘R Programing Language’ to obtain the results. The results showed a significant positive impact of attitude towards entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intention.

Surviving through Incubation Based on Entrepreneurship-Specific Human Capital Development: The Moderating Role of Tenants’ Network Involvement

Drawing upon human capital theory and the co-production view of business support processes, this paper investigates the moderating effects of network involvement on entrepreneurship-specific human capital (ESHC) that determines the tenants’ survival in an incubator. Longitudinal data between 2006 and 2009 of 71 ventures located in an incubator in China have been collected and analyzed. The research confirms that network involvement strengthens the influence of entrepreneurial experience on tenants’ successful graduation, but does not impact the relationship between entrepreneurial family background and tenants’ graduation.

A chip off the old block? The role of dominance and parental entrepreneurship for entrepreneurial intention

The major aim of this article is to investigate the effect of individual dominance and entrepreneurial family background on entrepreneurial intentions (EI). By linking the EI model with social learning theory and the framework of the theory of planned behaviour, endogenous as well as exogenous factors for becoming an entrepreneur are considered simultaneously. Dominance (striving for autonomy and power) is conceptually connected with established antecedents of EI. By taking into account entrepreneurial family background, occurrence of social support (i.e. subjective norms) and effects of role modelling from childhood on competence beliefs (i.e. perceived behavioural control and dominance) are studied. Based on a sample comprising 3342 students from Austria and Liechtenstein, of whom at least one of the parents was self-employed, structural equation modelling confirms subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, and dominance as antecedents of EI. In line with previous entrepreneurship research but contrary to Ajzen’s initial model, attitudes towards entrepreneurship mediated this relationship, whereas entrepreneurial family background leads to higher scores in EI and its antecedents.
