The article "The use of strategic characteristics in assessing effectiveness of innovation projects" examines the role of strategic indicators in selecting the optimal innovation project and determines the main approaches to the effectiveness assessment. The research relevance is defined by the fact that in the current context, because of a serious lag in the innovation sphere, there is a need to assess innovation implementation. The objective is to develop the methods for evaluating investment projects, in particular, the research and test of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC).Numerous studies of domestic and foreign scientists, namely A.K. Klochkov, D. Pammenter, K.F. Gray, E.U. Larson, N.I. Chupakhin, E.M. Rogova, A. Vikhrov, and P. Lekomtsev, concern the effectiveness assessment of the achievement of goals using the BSC. At the same time, some researchers focus on the issues of achieving the strategic and tactical goals of the organization. The introduction describes the degree of scientific development of the system for assessing the effectiveness of innovation. The article also explores economic and strategic complementary approaches, allowing us to identify general criteria via system analysis, economic analysis, business planning methods, and data analysis. The first part of the article presents the analysis of strategic indicators in terms of their grouping according to the criterion feature. This approach allows creating a goal tree, as well as the project effectiveness assessment in dynamics based on economic and strategic characteristics.Further, the second part of the article describes a hands-on example for evaluation of strategic indicators of an innovation project. The results of the qualitative assessment of the project confirmed the assumption that the investment decision can be applied using a strategic component. The integrated assessment allows us to conclude that Russian industrial enterprises that implement innovations can use the research results in their activities. Such an assessment breaks new ground for a comparative evaluation of investment projects.
