The Effect of Using Verbal Thinking Skills on Enhancing Effective Verbal Communication Among Ninth-Grade Female Students in Jordan

This research examined how students' levels of verbal thinking correlated with their ability to communicate effectively in ninth grade among Jordanian females. A control group and an experimental group were established in accordance with a semi-experimental design. The students were recruited from Yarmouk University Model School utilizing a preexisting strategy. The research included 40 students, with 20 in the experimental group getting training in verbal thinking abilities and the other 20 in the control group receiving teaching in traditional ways. A validated and reliability-assessed 30-item multiple-choice test was used to accomplish the study's goals. The experimental and control groups were evaluated at the beginning and end of the trial, respectively, using this instrument. The study's results showed statistically significant differences, demonstrating the beneficial influence of training verbal thinking skills on developing competent oral communication.

Telehealth is a modern branch of medicine that provides affordable and high-quality healthcare. The doctor-patient communication during an online consultation is just as important as personal bedside communication. A telehealth doctor is a qualified specialist who is able to provide remote assistance to patients using a computer and telecommunication software. Telehealth is especially important to patients in remote or rural areas with limited access to medical service. The article describes the role of the communicative component in effective telehealth interaction. The authors studied various online telehealth services, i.e., the Gostelemed telehealth consultation service provided by state medical organizations, the Miracle Doctor multidisciplinary medical clinic, and the Capsa Healthcare mobile medical platform. The authors used the methods of data analysis, generalization, and classification, as well as terminological analysis of dictionary definitions, to study the basic principles of effective telehealth communication. They identified the provisions and means of effective verbal and non-verbal communication during online consultations. Telehealth proved to be an effective tool that improves the standards and accessibility of medical care, especially during pandemics or crisis. Effective telehealth communication promotes positive relations between patients and specialists.

Optimization of Teachers' Verbal Communication Rhetoric in Improving the Quality of Education Services

Objective: This study aims to explore the important role of teachers' verbal communication in improving the quality of educational services and creating a conducive learning environment. Methods: Using a blended research design with a sequential exploratory approach, this study investigates how effective verbal communication from teachers can create interactive and motivating learning environments. Qualitative data from interviews and quantitative data from observations were analyzed to assess the impact of teachers' communication practices. Research Findings and Discussion: This research reveals that effective verbal communication, including stylistic variations and constructive feedback, significantly contributes to student engagement, understanding, and academic achievement. These findings underscore the importance of refining teachers' communication skills to improve the overall quality of education services in the secondary school context. Research Implications: The implication of this research is the need for further attention to teacher verbal communication skills training and development to improve student learning experience and overall quality of educational services. Originality/Value: This study contributes by highlighting the important role of teachers' verbal communication in the context of secondary education, as well as emphasizing the need for attention to the development of teachers' communication skills in order to improve the effectiveness of educational services.

Physical punishment and effective verbal communication in children aged 9–36 months, according to sex: secondary analysis of a national survey

BackgroundA substantial number of children in the world are regularly subjected to physical punishment by their parents as a method of upbringing. Evidence suggests that it has negative effects on the development of brain function. However, evidence regarding its association with verbal communication is limited and heterogeneous. It is also unknown whether the effects are the same in both boys and girls; especially in the contexts of developing countries, where the highest rates of physical punishment are found.ObjectiveThis investigation aimed at analyzing the association between physical punishment administered by both fathers and mothers and effective verbal communication among children aged 9–36 months according to sex.MethodsA secondary analytical cross-sectional study was conducted based on the 2018–2019 Peruvian Demographic and Family Health Survey. Physical punishment, based on the mother’s report of the use of hitting and/or slapping, was considered as a method to correct children by the father and/or mother. Effective verbal communication (EVC) was measured using the Battle scale which consists of age-appropriate questions included in the early childhood development module. A generalized linear model of the family and Log Poisson link option was used to identify the association between them, using the crude, general adjusted, and sex-stratified models.ResultsOf all the children, 16.31% received physical punishment from their father and/or mother, wherein 16.65% were boys and 15.97% were girls. Moreover, 36.48% exhibited EVC, wherein 32.55% were boys and 40.50% were girls. Adjusting for socioeconomic level, witnessing violence, mother’s marital status, age, occupation, education level, language, number of children, and moderate-to-severe depressive symptoms, it was found that boys who received physical punishment from their father and/or mother have a 31% lower probability of EVC (adjusted prevalence ratio (aPR) 0.69, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.58–0.83, p < 0.001), whereas no association was found in girls who received physical punishment from their father and/or mother and EVC (aPR 0.93, 95% CI 0.81–1.06, p = 0.278).ConclusionsAn association was found between physical punishment administered by father and/or mother and reduced EVC among boys, whereas no such association was found among girls. It is possible that even though a significant impact has not been observed in girls during this early stage, they may experience consequences in later stages of life, further research is needed.

Enhancing Effective Verbal Communication Between Radiologic Technologists and Patients: Assessing the Impact of Service Delivery in Hospitals of Dhaka City

Objective: Effective communication is crucial in the field of radiography as it holds significant importance in the practice. Radiologic technologists need to possess an understanding of both the physical and emotional requirements of patients. This understanding can be attained through proficient communication skills. Methodology: A qualitative research study was conducted in nearly fifteen private hospitals in Dhaka City in Bangladesh and 61 radiological technologists and 111 patients responds to this study. Result: The most important thing is, radiological technologist data showed there were 40 (65.6%) radiological technologists using protective shields for patients when taking radiographic exams and likewise Patients data showed there were 65 (58.6%) patients said that the radiological technologists were not using protective shields when taking radiographic exam. This is a contradictory issue of each other. It is due to a lack of awareness among professionals and patients and also due to a lack of supervision of the concerned authority. Conclusion: The study aimed to assess the extent of verbal communication occurring between radiological technologists and patients. It also sought to recognize the significance of patient care, ensuring patient safety, and determining priorities within diagnostic radiology departments.

The quality of verbal feedback given by nursing near-peer tutors: A qualitative study

BackgroundStudents' acceptance of peer feedback (PF) in health professions education has been mixed because of doubts about its quality and accuracy. Providing peer tutor (PT) training in giving effective feedback may increase the quality of PF. ObjectivesTo analyse the (1) quality and (2) accuracy of near-PF provided to first-year nursing students after simulated practice and (3) evaluate the discrepancies between what faculty, PTs and clinical staff teach about certain nursing skills by analysing PT–student feedback discussions. DesignQualitative study using content analysis. SettingsThis study was conducted in a simulation centre in a Singapore university during first-year undergraduate nursing students' laboratory lessons. ParticipantsNear-PT (second- to fourth-year undergraduate nursing students). MethodsNear-PTs received virtual training on providing structured feedback. They provided in-person PF to first-year nursing students after simulated practice of a technical nursing skill. PF was audio recorded. Quality was determined by PTs' adherence to the proposed PF structure and the Debriefing Assessment for Simulation in Healthcare–Rater Version Short Form (DASH-RV-Short) scores. Directed content analyses were also conducted to qualitatively evaluate PF quality based on DASH-RV-Short, PF accuracy and discrepancies in content taught for each nursing skill. ResultsMost PTs evaluated the skill chronologically or focused on the mistakes made instead of following the PF structure. DASH-RV-Short scores were ‘good’ for most elements because PTs gave specific suggestions and justified them, ensured students' psychological safety, and used effective verbal communication. PF was mostly accurate, but expectations relating to each nursing skill differed among the PTs, faculty and clinical staff. ConclusionsWith training, senior nursing students can provide specific and detailed feedback to their juniors, which may fill the gap for timely and specific feedback in health professions education. Future PT training programmes should clarify common variations and mistakes in skills performance to ensure PTs and faculty tutors agree on what students should learn.

Exploring the Impact of Verbal Communication Strategies in the Marketing of Fruit Items in Nepalgunj City, Nepal

This research article investigates the effects of verbal communication strategies in the marketing of fruit items in Nepalganj, Nepal. The study aimed to identify the most effective verbal communication strategies that can be used to promote fruit items in Nepalgunj's local market. To achieve this objective, a survey questionnaire was administered to 150 respondents, including customers and vendors of fruit items in Nepalgunj. The study found that verbal communication strategies such as persuasive language, use of humor, and the use of local dialects were the most effective in promoting fruit items in the local market. Additionally, the study revealed that the age and educational level of customers significantly influenced their preferences for verbal communication strategies.

Badī‘ al-Zamān Sa‘īd Nursī’s approach through writing in da‘wah: A study of effective verbal communication

Effective da‘wah communication is veritably necessary in maintaining the well-being of the community so that it's always in a state of peace, tranquility, and harmony. The traditional medium of preaching, which previously only revolved around oral mediums such as lectures and speeches, needs to be improved with the method of delivery through writing. Badī‘ al-Zamān Sa‘īd Nursī used the pen as the medium of his preaching, resulting in the work Rasā’il al-Nūr, which spread throughout the world. Therefore, this study focuses on the study of Sa‘īd Nursī's form of communication while spreading and delivering da‘wah through jotting styles (bi al- kitābah), such as his masterpiece Rasā’il al-Nūr, letters, and newspapers. This study is a library study, and the analysis is based on the document analysis framework (contents analysis). While the book Rasā’il al-Nūr is the main basis of every topic of discussion and includes some scholars' views on da‘wah communication. The results of the study set up that, Sa‘īd Nursī's greatest da‘wah contribution was through the writing approach. The findings also set up that Sa‘īd Nursī's da‘wah experience in colorful stages of his life similar to politics, education, war, and so on, caused him to be loaded with preaching experience with colorful forms of communication, especially in jotting, until he was appointed as a contemporary preacher of the Islamic world.

Patient-oriented linguo-professional training of medical students

Introduction. Patient-oriented communicative interaction in medicine is studied in various sciences, however, teaching appropriate communication in a medical university is impossible without taking into account its verbal specifics due to the high linguistic activity of the medical profession. Patient-oriented communication skills should be systematically formed in linguo-professional training, which disciplines and topics require clarification. The purpose of the study: to determine a set of disciplines and topics for patient-oriented linguo-professional training of medical students and to identify their demand among students and teachers of higher medical education (HME). Research methods: study of scientific and educational literature, reflecting the communicative aspects of the professional activities of physicians; questionnaire survey (174 teachers and 766 students of the Siberian State Medical University (Russia, Tomsk), ranking the subjects of patient-oriented linguoprofessional training according to their demand among students and teachers of the HME, summarizing the results of the study Research results. It is substantiated that the patient-oriented linguo-professional training of physicians should: 1) act as a significant component of their university training; 2) promote the development of professional and communicative (linguo-professional) competence for the implementation of effective verbal communication in professional activities in the dyad “doctor – patient”; 3) be based on the principles of the anthropological approach, the ideology of patient-orientation in medicine. The 16 most relevant topics for this training were identified, among which the topics related to speech etiquette in the communication of a doctor, his communication tasks, rules and techniques of conflict-free communication are especially in demand among students and teachers of the HME. Priority methods and technologies for teaching communication with patients have been identified: conversations, situational tasks, active listening, dialogue communication, giving examples, simulation technologies. Conclusion. The achievements of linguistic research in medical communication and the principles of a patient-oriented approach should be taken into account in the linguo-professional training of physicians. Its implementation is possible through the complementarity of the content of linguistic and non-linguistic disciplines or a single discipline for teaching patient-oriented communication.

A prospective observational study on ischemic stroke and impact of thyroid profile

Background: The present study was conducted for assessing patients with ischemic stroke and impact of thyroid profile.Materials and Methods: A total of 50 subjects with presence of acute ischemic stroke were enrolled in the present study. Complete demographic and clinical details of all the subjects was obtained. A thorough clinical examination of all the subjects was carried out. All the subjects were broadly divided into two study groups as follows: Group 1:25 subjects with normal consciousness and preserved effective verbal communication, and Group 2:25 subjects with poor verbal communication. Blood samples were obtained from all the patients and serum thyroid profile was evaluated. Results: Among group 1 and group 2 subjects, majority of them had serum TSG and fT4 values within normal reference range. However, fT3 values were significantly altered among subjects of group 2.Conclusion: Although most of the patients with acute ischemic stroke have normal thyroid function, a small proportion of patients requires further evaluation

Systematic Literature Review: Investigating Speaking Challenges Among ESL Learners During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Effective verbal communication in the English language poses many challenges for Malaysian students. As English is not their first language, the average Malaysian finds it difficult to attain the required speaking proficiency. COVID has only exacerbated this problem. Moving from a traditional classroom setting to an online one limits cohesive and effective verbal communication between the spreader and listener (s). Both students and teachers had to switch from traditional classroom instruction to online classroom instruction with various devices and technologies as their main means of communication. As a result, this study provides a systematic review of pertinent existing research into Investigating Speaking Challenges among English Language Learners (ESL) in Online Classrooms. We concentrated on 51 articles from the year 2006 to the year 2021, from a few databases. Google Scholar, ERIC, Microsoft Academic, and ResearchGate were referred to. The review begins with a search and scanning of suitable articles related to this study before selection. Most of these articles disclosed speaking challenges and provided positive solutions to overcome them during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both students and teachers dealt effectively with psychological issues such as shyness, lack of confidence, and anxiety, as well as technological aspects. Overall, this review gave some insights into the difficulties that ESL students have when they speak, as well as many ways to deal with them when learning online.

ПРОБЛЕМЫ ФОРМИРОВАНИЯ РЕЧЕВЫХ КОМПЕТЕНЦИЙ ПРИ РЕАЛИЗАЦИИ ДИСТАНЦИОННОГО ОБУЧЕНИЯ В ТЕХНИЧЕСКОМ ВУЗЕ

Subject of the article: distance learning at a technical university. Object of the article: problems of the formation of speech competencies in the implementation of distance learning. The author analyzes the problems of the formation of speech competence and speech competence of students in the process of their professional training at the university. The results of the work contain a theoretical and methodological substantiation of the significance of the formation of a system of practical skills in the learning process, the ability to apply the acquired knowledge, students' mastery of the ability to communicate, analyze, reflect, critical thinking, including speech competencies. The area of application of the results of the work is the training of competitive technical specialists in the process of distance learning and the implementation of modern requirements in the educational process of the university. Conclusion: in the modern labor market, the skills and abilities of effective verbal communication are an indispensable quality of competitive technical specialists. In this regard, the formation of professional speech competence is a task that should be solved at the university in the process of teaching the disciplines of the humanities and professional cycles. The prospect for solving this problem is opened up by the formation of significant competencies and professional and personal qualities in students, which will allow them to effectively solve actual problems in their work, to model the trajectory of self-development, self-realization and competitiveness, taking into account the modern requirements of the employer. An effective tool for implementing these mechanisms in the learning process is the development of a set of various theoretical, reference and practical definitions and learning tasks.

Articulatory Gain Predicts Motor Cortex and Subthalamic Nucleus Activity During Speech.

Speaking precisely is important for effective verbal communication, and articulatory gain is one component of speech motor control that contributes to achieving this goal. Given that the basal ganglia have been proposed to regulate the speed and size of limb movement, that is, movement gain, we explored the basal ganglia contribution to articulatory gain, through local field potentials (LFP) recorded simultaneously from the subthalamic nucleus (STN), precentral gyrus, and postcentral gyrus. During STN deep brain stimulation implantation for Parkinson's disease, participants read aloud consonant-vowel-consonant syllables. Articulatory gain was indirectly assessed using the F2 Ratio, an acoustic measurement of the second formant frequency of/i/vowels divided by/u/vowels. Mixed effects models demonstrated that the F2 Ratio correlated with alpha and theta activity in the precentral gyrus and STN. No correlations were observed for the postcentral gyrus. Functional connectivity analysis revealed that higher phase locking values for beta activity between the STN and precentral gyrus were correlated with lower F2 Ratios, suggesting that higher beta synchrony impairs articulatory precision. Effects were not related to disease severity. These data suggest that articulatory gain is encoded within the basal ganglia-cortical loop.

Effective communication in the nurse-patient relationship in the light of Transcultural Interprofessional Practice model

Objective: to analyze the use of elements of effective nurse-patient communication in the light of the Transcultural Interprofessional Practice model. Methods: an integrative literature review was carried out in the CINAHL, LILACS, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databases, without a time limit. Results: 12 studies were analyzed, most of them published in the English language, in 2017. Two categories were elaborated: effective verbal and non-verbal communication between nurses and patients. The elements of effective verbal communication were presented as speech and language; non-verbal ones presented as signals, distance, eye contact, time, touch, listening, empathy, and patience. Technology-assisted communication was part of both. Less frequently, the verbal communication process was hindered by language and non-verbal communication due to a lack of time availability. Conclusion: effective communication favors the establishment of trust, interaction, and the nurse-patient relationship.

Transitioning Competency-Based Communication Assessments to the Online Platform: Examples and Student Outcomes.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, pharmacy education has shifted from in-person teaching and assessments to the virtual environment. Many education programs had previously adopted objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) to assess communication abilities in-person with standardized patients (SPs). However, comparative student outcome data between virtual and in-person methods as well as guidance on how to conduct communication-based OSCEs in the virtual environment is lacking. The University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) describes its methods of conducting two types of communication-based OSCEs (patient counseling and gathering a medical history). Student performance data from the two virtual OSCEs in 2020 was compared to results from two 2019 in-person OSCEs using Mann Whitney U Tests. The 2020 cohort scored significantly higher than the 2019 cohort in all variables (i.e., using effective verbal and non-verbal communication, using patient friendly education, organizing the encounter, demonstrating empathy, establishing trust, professionalism) and in overall score. However, the effect size for these findings indicate the differences between performances are generally small and more likely due to changes in grading patterns due to the pandemic.

Nutritional status and effective verbal communication in Peruvian children: A secondary analysis of the 2019 Demographic and Health Survey.

To estimate the impact of stunting on the development of effective verbal communication (EVC) in children aged 24 to 36 months. We conducted a retrospective, quasi-experimental study design using data from 4452 children between 24 and 36 months of age available in the Early Childhood Development (ECD) section of the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) 2019 survey. Achievement of EVC was considered as the dependent variable. After propensity score matching analysis, a total 601 children were included in the exposed (children with stunting) and 3848 in the unexposed group (children without stunting). The psmatch2 Stata software command was used to estimate the impact of stunting on EVC with a level of 5% for significance. The EVC indicator was achieved by 57.4% of the children between 24 and 36 months of age evaluated, while the prevalence of stunting in this population was 14%. The evaluation of impact showed that the group exposed to stunting was 8% less likely to show EVC compared to the unexposed group (ATT -0.08; 95% CI -0.106 to -0.054; p<0.001). The presence of stunting was found to have a significant impact on the propensity to show EVC in Peruvian children between 24 and 36 months of age. Strengthening of strategies for reducing malnutrition in vulnerable areas, as well as those directly affecting EVC is a priority for diminishing gaps in the achievement of this indicator in our country.

The role of language adequacy in effective educational leadership

The main purpose of this research was to investigate the verbal characteristics of the philologists as school leaders in secondary educational institutions and to evaluate their effectiveness in verbal communication with teachers. The investigation of the verbal behaviour of philologist principals is considered particularly important as, according to a recent demographic study, scholars rank first in the number of serving principals in secondary educational institutions in Greece. A qualitative methodology with semi-structured interviews and a combination of mixed purposeful sampling strategies were used to achieve the research goal. A total of 45 participants were selected from educational institutions of Athens Secondary Education: 15 principals who are philologists, 15 vice-principals and 15 teachers who are mathematicians. Parallel to that, the strategy of data triangulation from three perspectives: the philologist leader's, the vice-principal's and one mathematician's from the same school institution has been applied. A key factor in effective verbal communication was the principal's personality with their ethical-spiritual characteristics, not their scientific expertise. This research seeks to identify the most efficient way of communication between teachers and principals for the optimisation of the school's means and processes, taking into consideration the difficulties deriving from the teachers' different scientific backgrounds.

The impact of adding perspective-taking to spatial referencing during human–robot interaction

For effective verbal communication in collaborative tasks, robots need to account for the different perspectives of their human partners when referring to objects in a shared space. For example, when a robot helps its partner find correct pieces while assembling furniture, it needs to understand how its collaborator perceives the world and refer to objects accordingly. In this work, we propose a method to endow robots with perspective-taking abilities while spatially referring to objects. To examine the impact of our proposed method, we report the results of a user study showing that when the objects are spatially described from the users’ perspectives, participants take less time to find the referred objects, find the correct objects more often and consider the task easier.

THE EFFECTS OF VERBAL COMMUNICATION BEHAVIORS ON COMMUNICATION COMPETENCE IN THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY

Making a smart decision requires effective verbal communication. Communication is crucial in different contexts, particularly in an organization. This is because face-to-face and oral communications are still the gold standards in communication abilities. The drawback is that it is prone to all communication problems, such as miscommunication, communication barriers, and challenges in the respective competencies. Therefore, this study aims to identify these communication behaviors that are learned socially and taken place in a leading cosmetic company in Malaysia. This study is guided by the interpersonal skill model to examine the relationship between verbal communication behaviors and communication competence in the workplace. The objectives of this study are to identify the effects of verbal communication behaviors on communication competencies of these behaviors based on the workplace communication behavior inventory, communication competency instruments measured communication competency. Using a simple random sampling method, 277 usable responses were collected. The information-sharing factor was found to be the most commonly practiced verbal communication behavior subscale. Thus, this paper contributes to the existing literature on interpersonal skill model by showing that the importance of communication competence and its relationship with verbal communication behaviors in the pharmaceutical industry

Peningkatan Pembelajaran Student-Centered SMAK Santo Yusup Surabaya melalui Penataan Ruang Kelas

One important factor in improving the quality of learning is the classroom atmosphere, which is formed through the activities carried out in it between the teacher and students with position, posture, and body language, as non-verbal communication, and the use of words, intonation, and pronunciation as verbal communication. Another important factor is the characteristics of the space where the activity takes place (setting). In applying the student-centered approach, which motivates students to learn more actively and not depend on the teacher, the role of a teacher is very important to always be able to improvise, exploit the potential and position, for the success of the teaching-learning process in schools. The purpose of activities in the field of interior science architecture community service at SMAK St. This framework is to strengthen the participation of teachers and students through the setting of learning spaces that support the establishment of communication as desired. The method used is observation of the physical environment and surveys of teachers and students about the communication experience and the convenience of learning on three subjects that are considered difficult, namely Chemistry, Biology, and English. The survey results show that effective verbal and non-verbal communication media between teachers and students and fellow students is triggered by the setting of the space outside the classroom, with more relaxed and enjoyable reasons, such as in a library room. This has a real impact on increasing student motivation in the form of subjects' likes and grades.
