From computing to quantum mechanics: accessible and hands-on quantum computing education for high school students

This paper outlines an alternative approach to teaching quantum computing at the high school level, tailored for students with limited prior knowledge in advanced mathematics and physics. This approach diverges from traditional methods by building upon foundational concepts in classical computing before gradually introducing quantum mechanics, thereby simplifying the entry into this complex field. The course was initially implemented in a program for gifted high school students under the Hong Kong Education Bureau and received encouraging feedback, indicating its potential effectiveness for a broader student audience. A key element of this approach is the practical application through portable NMR quantum computers, which provides students with hands-on experience. The paper describes the structure of the course, including the organization of the lectures, the integration of the hardware of the portable nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) quantum computers, the Gemini/Triangulum series, and detailed lecture notes in Additional file 1. The initial success in the specialized program and ongoing discussions to expand the course to regular high schools in Hong Kong and Shenzhen suggest the viability of this approach for wider educational application. By focusing on accessibility and student engagement, this approach presents a valuable perspective on introducing quantum computing concepts at the high school level, aiming to enhance student understanding and interest in the field.

Modern approaches to increase the efficiency of physical education of high school students

The article presents the results of the study and systematization of the prerequisites for the low efficiency of the physical education of school youth, including high school students, the organizational and methodical features of physical exercises with high school children are revealed, current trends in the development of the school physical education system are analyzed, and an attempt is made to identify ways of strengthening productivity of physical exercises classes in high school in the conditions of modern challenges. It was determined that since high school age is a particularly responsible period, as it is the final stage of preparing an individual for a full-fledged life, further education and professional activity. Therefore, the content and methods of physical education of high school students have their own characteristics and requirements for evaluating effectiveness. It has been established that the system of school physical education is low in terms of achieving the expected results in the process of implementing pedagogical tasks and has a number of significant shortcomings. Guidelines for its development at the state level based on taking into account the world's best practices are presented. The need to improve the physical education of schoolchildren in traditional school forms has been identified. It was found that the subject of modern research is the substantiation and development of new methods in the educational process of physical education of high school students. Modern methods are represented by a set of traditional and innovative means and methods of physical education and are aimed at strengthening the pedagogical influence on schoolchildren in various organizational forms, but only a small part of them is reflected in practice.

Analysis of the Influence of Academic Parenting, Children's Values, and Self-Concept on Motivation to Continue Higher Education in Students in Kawasan Industri Jababeka

This study aims to analyze the influence of academic parenting, children's grades, and self-concept on motivation to continue higher education among high school and vocational high school students in Jababeka Industrial Estate, Bekasi Regency. This study used a quantitative approach with an explanatory design on 120 high school and vocational school students and 120 student guardians. The research instrument used a questionnaire and was analyzed by correlation and SEM tests. The results of this study indicated that the variables of academic parenting, self-concept, and motivation to continue education are in the medium category, while the variable of children's values was in the low category. The results of the T-Test revealed that the motivation to continue their education of high school students was significantly different from vocational students; high school students had higher motivation. The correlation test between variables showed a significant positive relationship between academic parenting variables with self-concept and motivation to continue education. Influence analysis found a direct influence of academic parenting variables on self-concept and self-concept variables on motivation to continue education. The results of path analysis found that the academic parenting variable indirectly affects motivation to continue education, with the self-concept variable as a mediator. The implication of this research is to strengthen the self-concept of students in industrial areas through academic parenting and increase students' motivation to continue their education by forming a positive self-concept.

Research on the Current Situation and Countermeasures of Patriotism Education for High School Students - Taking Zigong City as an Example

The promulgation and implementation of the Patriotism Education Law of the People's Republic of China has provided a more perfect legal guarantee for the strengthening of high school students' patriotism education by the coercive force of national regulations. This paper researches the patriotism education of high school students under the background of the Patriotism Education Law of the People's Republic of China through literature research method and questionnaire survey method, and analyzes the patriotism education of high school students, which has the problems of insufficient understanding of the content of patriotism education, the effect of patriotism education method to be improved and the evaluation mechanism of patriotism education is not sound, and puts forward a proposal of subject teaching in response to these problems. In the light of these problems, it also proposes that the content of patriotism education should be carried through the teaching of academic disciplines, that the method of patriotism education should take root in practice, and that the evaluation mechanism of patriotism education should be improved.

Application of Class-Based Characteristic Economic Teaching Materials for High School Students in Singkawang City

This research uses a Design Based Research (DBR) approach to develop and test Economics teaching materials with the dimension of strengthening character education for high school students in Singkawang City. The aim of this research is to produce teaching materials that not only increase understanding of economic material, but also help students internalize character values that are relevant to social, cultural and economic change. The problem faced is how to create effective and relevant teaching materials in the context of ongoing changes. The method used includes field trials with an experimental design, where the teacher applies the developed teaching materials in the learning process. The test subjects were high school students in Singkawang City, with data collected through observation and tests. Data analysis uses qualitative analysis for the field test implementation process and the Wilcoxon Test to determine the effectiveness of teaching material products. Specific results showed significant improvements in student learning outcomes, with an average pre-test score of 43.63 increasing to 55.35 in the post-test. In general, the results of this research show that teaching materials with character are effective in improving economic learning outcomes and shaping the character of students. In conclusion, the application of economic teaching materials based on strengthening character education can prepare students to become the golden generation of 2045 who excel in skills, competence and character.

Perspectives of Open Education High Students on the Open Learning Mode

Open education is an education and instruction network that is widely used to overcome physical and temporal limitations. In the current study, an evaluation was made by taking the opinions of students on the application areas of the open education system in Turkey. In this context, the reasons for students attending open education high schools to switch to open education high schools were examined and a general perspective on open education applications was presented in line with their goals and expectations. To this end, phenomenology, one of the qualitative research methods, was used and students’ opinions and experiences about open education were elicited. The sample of the current study is comprised of 500 open education high school students registered through public education centres. An online questionnaire form consisting of semi-structured open-ended questions was used to collect data in the study. When the findings were examined, it was seen that the reasons for the participants’ enrolment in open education differed. In the analysis performed, it was seen that the reasons for enrolling in open education were grouped under six sub-headings: individual-emotional reasons, familial reasons, economic reasons, health-related reasons, reasons arising from school education processes and environmental-stimulating reasons.

Tailoring Mentorship: Evidence on Diverse Needs and Application Patterns for High School Students

We investigate enrollment in a mentoring program aimed at promoting transition to tertiary education for high school students. Females exhibit both higher initial interest and application completion, while immigrants and financially constrained students initially express higher interest, but ultimately are not more likely to apply. Survey results highlight a common preference for shared academic interests, but variations emerge: females prefer same-gender mentors, immigrants value shared cultural traits, and financially constrained individuals lean towards mentors from the same municipality. This suggests that programs targeting underrepresented students should be aware of potential barriers to take-up and promote recruiting mentors with similar background.

Large-scale experiment in STEM education for high school students using artificial intelligence kit based on computer vision and Python

This study proposes an artificial intelligence (AI) kit for high school students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The AI kit includes an edge AI machine and electronic components. A compact, purpose-built kit resembling a laptop was designed for ease of replication and portability. Utilizing pre-trained convolutional neural network models and computer vision algorithms, five Thai schools participated in on-site instructions. A quasi-experimental study assessed the students' learning outcomes using a paired sample t-test. Results revealed improved knowledge and reduced score variation. Additionally, gender analysis confirmed that both male and female students met the learning criteria. The students expressed satisfaction with the distinctive hardware and learning method employed during the class activities. Notably, the test results demonstrated that the AI kit enhanced students’ enthusiasm and facilitated comprehension.

Proposing an SDGs education model: integrating design thinking and behavioral science “nudges” for high school students

AbstractThis study focuses on the development of a creative model of SDGs education that promotes behavior change in upper secondary schools using an approach that combines design thinking and behavioral science nudge methods. The SDGs education for high school students, which utilized design thinking, was used as a case study. Questionnaire surveys of high school students and teachers who participated in the project were conducted. Based on the survey results, a new education model was proposed that can effectively improve SDGs education at the high school level and support educators in this field.

Utilizing learning materials from folk culture to teach art education not only enhances the quality of art education but also develops students' aesthetic abilities and artistic talents. The article focuses on explaining the significance, purposes, and requirements of using learning materials from the folk culture of Nghe An. Additionally, it discusses several measures to implement art education for high school students in Nghe An province through the use of folk cultural materials specific to the region.

Studying teachers` readiness for implementing the problem of military-patriotic education among high school students: organization and results of the all-ukrainian survey

The article aims to present the results of an All-Ukrainian survey of teachers from institutions of general secondary education on the problem of military-patriotic education among high school students.
 The All-Ukrainian survey of teachers was conducted nationwide from October to November 2023 (during the ascertainment stage of the research) with the support of regional administrations and local education departments.
 The All-Ukrainian survey was carried out within the framework of the applied research topic “Organizational-Pedagogical Conditions and Technologies for Ensuring the Unity of Physical and Military-Patriotic Education of Students of Institutions of General Secondary Education” based on the Laboratory of National-Patriotic Education of the Institute of Problems on Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine (the head is L.V. Kanishevska, Doctor of Sciences in Education, Professor). The organizers of the All-Ukrainian survey of teachers were L. V. Kanishevska – Doctor of Sciences in Education, Professor; V.V. Ragozina – Ph.D., Senior Researcher.
 21665 teachers from 19 regions of Ukraine participated in the All-Ukrainian survey. Such a sample ensures the reliability of the survey results on the problem of military-patriotic education. Teachers participated in the survey voluntarily.
 The diagnostic toolkit was developed in Google Forms and presented in digital format (on Google Drive). Access to the questionnaires was provided to respondents by sending appropriate invitations.
 The questionnaire for teachers was aimed to determine the educators’ readiness to implement the problem of military- patriotic education among high school students. For this purpose, the questionnaire included questions regarding the forms and methods used for implementing military-patriotic education in lessons and extracurricular activities, as well as students’ interest in military-patriotic content.
 The research only covers some aspects of addressing the multifaceted issue of high school students’ military-patriotic education in martial law conditions. We see the perspective of further research in developing and testing organizational and pedagogical conditions to ensure the unity of physical and military-patriotic education of high school students in martial law conditions.

PEDAGOGICAL MECHANISMS FOR THE FORMATION OF PHYSICAL QUALITIES OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BASED ON NATIONAL EDUCATION

The article "Pedagogical mechanisms for the formation of physical qualities of high school students based on national education" explores innovative approaches in the field of physical education of high school students based on the principles of national education. The authors consider the influence of national traditions, cultural values and historical context on the formation of physical qualities of adolescents. The article presents pedagogical mechanisms, including the adaptation of traditional games, exercises and sports practices corresponding to the national heritage. The role of national customs in motivating high school students to physical activity and their involvement in classes is considered. As a result, the article provides practical recommendations for teachers aimed at using national characteristics in the formation of physical qualities of high school students, with an emphasis on their cultural context.

Development of physical qualities of high school students in the football section of the school sports club

Introduction. According to the World Study of School Physical Education, sports games, gymnastics and athletics make up almost 80% of physical education curricula in primary and secondary schools. Possibilities of using certain types of sports games, for example, football, in the physical education of high school students are not sufficiently considered. The study aims to determine the effective methodology for developing the physical qualities of high school students in the football section of the school sports club. Materials and methods of research. 20 students aged 16 took part in the experiment. The research work was carried out at the Secondary School of the Betty-Mokhk village of Nozhai-Yurtovsky district, the Chechen Republic (Russian Federation). A sectional group was formed from the students of the experimental group (10 people), which, in addition to the school physical education program, additionally played football at the school sports club. The total volume of the educational and training program was 144 hours. Methods of mathematical statistic were the arithmetic mean and Student's t-test. Research results. The experimental methodology was developed in the form of an educational and training program for football based on a standard sports training program for football players aged 15-17 by the Russian Football Union and recommended for football sports training organizations in the Russian Federation. During the experiment, testing was carried out according to the standards included in the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex ‘Ready for Labor and Defense’ to identify the level of physical fitness of students. Comparative analysis and mathematical processing of the experiment results showed statistically significant changes in indicators of agility (t = 3.9; p < 0.01), speed (t = 2.3; p < 0.05), endurance (t = 2.9; p < 0.05), strength (t = 3.8; p < 0.01), and flexibility (t = 3.3; p < 0.01). Conclusion. The data obtained demonstrate the positive dynamics of the methodology for a sportsoriented approach through football in sectional classes within the school’s sports club. This proves the effectiveness of the chosen method, namely increasing the volume of physical activity through sectional work in the school sports club, taking into account the interests of students in physical education and sports activities.

Google map and canva for spatial understanding of grade 12 social studies students of SMAN 1 Warung Kiara, Sukabumi District

Background: Land use planning is a fundamental aspect of the Geography education for high school students, involving the organization of geographical space across economic, social, and cultural dimensions. A comprehensive grasp of this subject is imperative for students to comprehend the optimal utilization and management of geographical space. Methods: This study investigates the efficacy of Google Maps satellite mode and Canva as instructional tools for land use planning among senior high school students at SMAN 1 Warung Kiara, Sukabumi Regency. Google Maps satellite mode provides visual representations of planning areas, while Canva facilitates the creation of visually appealing and comprehensible land use planning designs. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, involving questionnaires and interviews with a purposive sample of 32 students. Findings: The findings indicate that 75% of a students found learning with Google Maps satellite mode and Canva to be more engaging and comprehensible compared to traditional methods. Conclusion: Interviews further revealed an enhancement in students' understanding of land use planning concepts following exposure to these media. The utilization of Google Maps satellite mode and Canva emerges as an effective instructional strategy for enhancing students' comprehension of land use planning, underscoring the potential of technology and visual design in geography education.

New evidence of predictive validity of SRSS-IE scores with middle and high school students

IntroductionWe report predictive validity of the newly defined Student Risk Screening Scale – Internalizing and Externalizing (SRSS-IE 9, with 9 items) when used for the first time by middle and high school teachers from 43 schools.MethodsThe sample included 11,773 middle school-aged students representing four geographic regions, and 7,244 high school-aged students representing three geographic regions.ResultsResults indicated fall SRSS-IE externalizing and internalizing latent factors as well as subscale scores (SRSS-E5, SRSS-I4, respectively) predicted year-end behavioral (office discipline referrals and in school suspensions) and academic (course failures) outcomes for middle and high school students as well as referrals to special education for middle school students. Internalizing scores also predicted referrals to special education for high school students. Externalizing and internalizing scores predicted nurse visits at the middle and high school levels with all models except for subscale models of internalizing in middle school. SRSS-IE 12 subscale scores for externalizing (SRSS-E7) and internalizing (SRSS-I5) using the original 12 items were similarly predictive of these outcomes, with few variations.DiscussionWe discuss educational implications, limitations, and directions for future inquiry.

Motivation, Intensity and Quality of Educational Activity of Russian Schoolchildren in Online Learning

The article analyzes the possibility of transitioning a general education school to an online learning format. The indicators are such categories as educational activity, quality of education, intensity of education, learning motives. To achieve this goal, a sociological survey of high school students in Rostov-on-Don (Russia), as well as their parents and school teachers, was conducted. The last two groups of respondents are presented in the status of experts. Based on the analysis of empirical data, the following conclusions were made. More than half of all high school students surveyed (66.6%) expressed their intention to continue the online learning experience they received during the response to the COVID-19 epidemic. However, the conjugations of willingness to study online with the categories “learning motives”, “quality of education”, “intensity of education” showed that the high motivation declared by high school students for the learning process does not correspond to their real behavior in distance lessons. The main motive for choosing online education for high school students is the convenience of this format of education. The survey showed a low degree of significance of other reasons for choosing online education. Preferences for online convenience and the desire to learn asynchronously reflect the unmanifested goal of getting out of the teacher’s control in order to reduce their educational activity. It can be assumed that this is due to the social immaturity of high school students and the lack of understanding by most of them of the value of secondary education. Based on the analyzed data, three approximately equal groups of respondents were identified. In the first group, high school students are focused on the standard school-lesson system with elements of e-learning (40% of respondents). In the second group, the advantages of online learning are articulated, which are associated with convenience and greater resource potential compared to classical learning (35% of respondents). The third group represents the interests of high school students, who are not so much interested in the format of education as the opportunity to get out of the control of the teacher and find themselves in a convenient educational environment to simulate learning activities (25% of respondents). This means that online learning format, the usefulness of which is obvious only if students have a stable cognitive activity, is unacceptable for most high school students.

Educators' and students' perspectives on the education of national cultural identity for high school students in Vietnam

The preservation and promotion of national cultural identity hold immense significance in fostering a sense of heritage and unity among the populace. Educating high school students about their national cultural identity in Vietnam plays a pivotal role in shaping the country's future generation and providing them with a profound understanding of their cultural heritage. This research aims to investigate the perceptions of educators and students towards the education of national cultural identity, specifically examining the content and methodologies employed in imparting this vital knowledge. The study will employ a quantitative research design, namely a cross-sectional approach, to gather data from a sample of 65 instructors, administrators, and 150 high school students. The data will be obtained through the use of a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire, divided into two parts, will assess the content and form of cultural education for high school students using a 5-level Likert scale. The results of the perceptions of teachers, administrators, and students about (1) the content of ethnic cultural identity education for students in high schools, with a mean of 3.62 for teachers and administrators and a mean of 3.40 for students; and (2) the mean score for all forms of education was higher for teachers and administrators than for students. The study's results will enhance comprehension of cultural appreciation and nationalistic sentiment among Vietnam's youth, influencing educational policies and practices that successfully safeguard and advance the national cultural identity of high school students.

Формирование у бакалавров педагогического образования навыков организации контрольных мероприятий на элективных курсах по информатике

Elective courses play an important role in the profile education of high school students. Thanks to them, it is possible to expand or deepen the knowledge and skills of schoolchildren in a particular subject area, prepare them for choosing a profession or passing the state final certification. An important place in elective courses is occupied by control measures, with the help of which the teacher both determines the level of readiness of students to pass the elective and assesses the success of the student in mastering the course material. In this regard, the future teacher must master the methodology for organizing elective courses, including the ability to develop or select materials for control activities. Taking into account the transition of education in pedagogical universities to the “Core of Higher Pedagogical Education”, it becomes difficult to prepare for elective courses in computer science. Therefore, the article shows one of the ways for students to master the skills of organizing and conducting elective courses through one of the university disciplines. The development of tasks for control measures, designed by students in the study of university discipline, is given.

Analysis of New Gaokao Reform Under the Context of “Suzhi” Education for High School Students

This paper examines the implications of the New Gaokao Reform on "suzhi" education, a holistic approach to education that focuses on students' overall development beyond academic achievements. The reform, implemented in China since September 2014, aims to address the limitations of the traditional Gaokao system by introducing a more comprehensive and multi-criteria assessment approach. By reviewing the existing literature, this research explores the historical context of "suzhi" education and its relevance to high school students in China. It discusses previous studies and identifies possible gaps in the limited literature, focusing on the challenges of policy implementation, ambiguity, and inequality in conducting "suzhi" assessments. The study aims to provide valuable insights and implications into the effects of the New Gaokao Reform on high school students' overall development and their future educational opportunities. By analysing the motivations and goals of the policies, this research contributes to the ongoing discussion on the effectiveness and implications of the reform.
