Behavioral Design in Healthcare: Synthesis of Technical Sciences and Humanities

The scientific and practical potential of behavioral economics and behavioral design in Russia is underutilized, and the use of their methods can be significantly expanded, both in the scientific field and in practice. One of the promising areas of their application, with significant experience accumulated in the West, is healthcare. Behavioral design in healthcare is an example of an effective synthesis of the achievements of the humanities and technical sciences with an interdisciplinary approach that constructively combines economic, psychological, and technological methods of scientific knowledge. The use of behavioral design technologies, including digital and neural interfaces, is a promising direction for creating competitive products and services in healthcare. The theory of solving inventive problems can help speed up the process of implementation in practice. Behavioral design technologies in healthcare can be considered from such positions as physical design – the design of medical equipment, devices, and drug labels – as well as design for error-proofing in organizing processes based on reducing the negative impact of the human factor. The behavioral design of error-proofing systems in healthcare is implemented through functions such as forced control, error failure, warning, and touch alert.

Students' enthusiasm for developing MSMEs is influenced by studying the creative economy. Therefore, it is important to study creative economics because it opens students' insight into the potential of creative economics and innovation. This research uses a qualitative paradigm. The research was conducted to find out what enthusiasm students have in learning creative economics in developing MSMEs (Micro Small and Medium Enterprises). We took this research through interviews using three questions to students who were or were already running MSMEs. From the questions included, more students are interested in creating MSMEs after studying the creative economy and student creativity and innovation can develop further after studying the creative economy.

The Understanding of Electrical and Computer Engineering Students to Translate Sharia Economic Texts Via Google Translate

The potential of Islamic economics to develop in Aceh where Islamic culture and values ​​are very large and strong. Therefore, even though electrical and computer engineering students do not specifically study Islamic economics courses but live in Aceh, it is important to know the insight into Islamic economic texts. Google translate is very helpful in translating texts with nuances of sharia economics in Aceh to electrical and computer engineering students. This research was a descriptive-qualitative. The data used as a test comes from the abstract of an article by Ode and Hamizar (2024) entitled "Quantitative Analysis of the Relationship between Income and Welfare of Tuna Fishermen from the Perspective of Sharia Finance" which title is themed on sharia finance which is needed to determine the abilities of electrical and computer engineering students so that they can have insight related to the sharia economic system where this system is implemented in Aceh where they live. It can be concluded that electrical and computer engineering students can understand the interlingual translation of abstracts related to Islamic economics in English into Indonesian via Google Translate.

Natural variability in yield and properties of Balanites aegyptiaca (L.) Delile kernel oil from different locations in Nigeria

Balanites aegyptiaca known as the desert date is an underutilized and neglected wild fruit tree/shrub of the arid and semi-arid zones with high economic potential. This study, therefore, was conducted to investigate the yield, physico-chemical and phytochemical properties, proximate and mineral composition of desert date kernel oil from different locations. Oil was extracted using the soxhlet apparatus, while hexane served as solvent. Standard procedures were used to determine the yield and properties of desert date kernel oil. The data obtained were subjected to the analysis of variance (p< 0.05). Oil yield (%) was found to range from 21.09±1.04-43.95±1.85 and varied significantly among the locations. Acid and saponification values (mg KOH/g) increased significantly from 2.11±0.07 to 1.36±0.07 and 76.35±0.22 to 179.85±0.90, respectively. The refractive index ranged from 1.36±0.15 to 1.48±0.06, while the iodine value (mg KOH/g) varied significantly from 67.07±1.53 to 85.33±2.52. Saponins, tannins, and phenol were discovered to vary significantly among the locations, and range from 3.82±0.30 -5.83±0.45 (mg/100 g), 1.31±0.10 - 1.68±0.03 (mg/100 g) and 1.51±0.05 - 2.09±0.06 (mg/100 g), respectively. “Nudging towards excellence: Harnessing behavioral insights for organizational learning”

Purpose In dynamic business environments, organizations must constantly adapt and learn. Nudging, a concept from behavioral economics, offers a novel approach to influence organizational behavior and learning. This article explores the integration of nudging within organizational learning, drawing from Thaler and Sunstein’s work and organizational learning theories. Also, To investigate nudging’s role in organizational learning and propose a practical nudging framework, while addressing ethical considerations. Design/methodology/approach The article combines theoretical insights from behavioral economics (Thaler and Sunstein; Kahneman) with organizational learning theories (Argyris and Schön). It discusses real-world nudging applications, like Google's health initiatives, and examines the ethical aspects of workplace nudging. Findings Nudging effectively influences organizational decisions and strategies by targeting rapid cognitive processes. It finds application in training, performance management, and decision-making, with a critical focus on ethical implications, especially regarding autonomy and non-manipulation. Research limitations/implications This study highlights the potential of behavioral economics in reshaping organizational learning, emphasizing the importance of ethical application in developing adaptive, learning-focused organizational cultures. Originality/value Nudging offers a promising method for enhancing organizational learning. Applied ethically, it can improve workforce engagement, performance, and adaptability. Future research should focus on nudging's long-term organizational impacts and ethical boundaries.

The Impact and Opportunities of Digital Economy on Rural Revitalization

Furthermore, the development of digital healthcare services improves rural healthcare by providing opportunities for remote medical consultations and diagnoses. The digital economy's influence contributes to the enhancement of living standards among rural residents, fosters the development of rural infrastructure, and improves governance within rural communities. Digital technologies also contribute to enhancing the environmental sustainability of rural regions, reducing resource wastage and environmental pollution. These opportunities provide new impetus for rural revitalization and are expected to assist rural areas in achieving their sustainable development objectives. However, the digital economy also presents challenges, including the digital divide, privacy and security issues, barriers to technology adoption, knowledge and skill disparities, as well as social, cultural, navigating through these challenges demands thorough policies and strategies, aiming to optimize the digital economy's potential while guaranteeing that rural residents fully capitalize on the opportunities it offers. To sum up, the digital economy provides extensive possibilities for rejuvenating rural areas, enhancing living standards, fostering economic growth, and fostering sustainable development in rural communities. However, fully realizing these opportunities necessitates overcoming a series of challenges, devising appropriate policies, and enhancing the adoption and application of digital technologies. This will aid in attaining the objectives of rural rejuvenation and advancing sustainable development in rural areas.

The macroeconomic impact of ocean economy financing in South Africa

ABSTRACT The global ocean plays a vital role in supplying seafood and employment, driving worldwide GDP growth. South Africa recognises the ocean economy's potential and invests in it to boost productivity, reduce unemployment, and spur economic expansion. However, challenges like outdated infrastructure, weak governance, and technological gaps hinder progress. Amidst rising demand for seafood, unregulated competition prevails. The study employed ARDL to test the long – and short-run relationships between ocean economy financing, economic growth, and unemployment from 1994 to 2019. The results show that there is a positive and statistically insignificant relationship between ocean economy financing economic growth, and unemployment. This study recommends that the government continue to increase a sustained investment in ocean economy infrastructure, addressing growth constraints, and adopting a comprehensive strategy for realising economic growth and job creating.

How can the digital economy drive low-carbon city performance in China to achieve sustainable development goals? A multiple-output perspective

Under the dual carbon target, governments globally have recognized the importance of exploring the relationship between the digital economy and low-carbon city (LCC) performance for achieving sustainable development. However, existing studies primarily focus on a single carbon emission index to reflect LCC performance while neglecting multidimensional outputs. This study aims to analyze how the digital economy drives LCC performance from a multidimensional output perspective. Based on 271 Chinese cities from 2006 to 2020, this study establishes a comprehensive digital economy index, and a multidimensional output index of LCC performance, then analyzes digital economy's impact on LCC performance through fixed effects and intermediary effects models. The findings indicate that: (1) Nationally, the digital economy has the potential to significantly decrease both overall and intensity of carbon emissions while increasing LCC efficiency. (2) Digital economy influences LCC development through innovation in green technology indirectly. (3) The digital economy's effects on LCC exhibits heterogeneity depending on city location, city size and city type. Specifically, it shows a greater effect on the decrease of carbon emissions in the eastern and central regions, exerts a bigger impact on small and medium-sized cities based on city size, and demonstrates a more substantial effect in resource-based cities. This study offers a thorough analysis of how the digital economy affects LCC performance, thereby providing empirical support for leveraging the digital economy's potential to foster urban low-carbon development.

Using remote sensing technique to assess biomass energy potentials and appropriate site locations in Nigeria

In a bid to promote clean energy usage and conserve the forests, the Nigerian bio-energy policy was recently constituted, to help tackle the energy insecurity in the country and help increase its carbon credit in line with the United Nations development goals. This paper presents a Geographical Information System (GIS)-based assessment of biomass energy potentials and appropriate siting of biomass plant in Nigeria using remote sensing technique. It promotes sustainable and clean energy penetration and conserve forest life, which supports the UN SDGs on; Clean and Affordable Energy (SDG 7), Climate Action (SDG 13) and Life on Land, including forest sustainability (SDG 15), and the Federal Government of Nigeria's net-zero emission commitment. The weighted overlay decision analysis was employed considering multicriteria approach. The various vegetation, forest, water bodies, lands, water source locations, accessibility to roads, aspect and topography were the criteria that were considered for locating the biomass facility. Efforts were made to quantify the biomass energy potentials of the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, with the possibility of locating biomass plant; North East, North West, North Central, South East, South West and South South. The results obtained in this study reflect that the north eastern part of Nigeria has the highest theoretical, technical and economical energy potentials of crop residues (1163.32, 399.73 and 110.56 PJ/yr, respectively), while the south eastern part has the least energy potential (52.36, 17.99 and 4.98 PJ/yr, respectively). Also, the north western part of Nigeria has the highest theoretical, technical and economical energy potentials of forest residues (260.18, 156.11 and 43.18 PJ/yr, respectively), while the south eastern part has the least energy potential (1.79, 1.08 and 0.30 PJ/yr, respectively). The remote sensing technique employed in this study suggested that the northern part of Nigeria is most suitable for siting biomass plants in the country.

Sustainable Islamic Financial Engineering with Special Reference to Gulf Cooperation Council’s Economies

ABSTRACT Purpose — This paper explores how Islamic economics and finance, when developed as an embedded framework for regenerative development in line with maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah (the objectives of Islamic law), can facilitate the design of sustainable contracts and Islamic financial engineering. This framework provides a mechanism to achieve the paradigm shift advocated by Islamic finance scholars to accommodate the sustainability agenda into the practical applications of Islamic economics and finance. The paper specifically focuses on the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) economies. Design/Methodology/Approach — This study employs an analytical research approach to evaluate the compatibility of Islamic social and commercial finance with sustainability objectives. The analysis is primarily qualitative and relies on the One Earth Framework proposed by Simpson et al. (2021) to structure the assessment of opportunities and challenges related to sustainability that Islamic economics and finance in the GCC region can help address. Findings — The paper highlights the potential of Islamic economics and finance as an embedded framework to address sustainability challenges in the GCC countries. By examining the capacity of Islamic finance to accommodate sustainability pathways, it elucidates avenues for integrating sustainable practices within Islamic financial contracts and institutions. Originality/Value — One of the key contributions of this paper is the introduction and development of Islamic economics and finance as an embedded framework. This pioneering concept not only lays the groundwork for a practical mechanism but also signifies a fundamental step in realising the paradigm shift within Islamic finance. This transformative approach enhances the relevance and effectiveness of Islamic finance in fostering sustainability, marking a significant advancement in the field. Research Limitations — While the study provides valuable insights, it primarily follows an analytical approach and does not involve quantitative analysis. Climate sustainability through a dynamic duo: Green hydrogen and crypto driving energy transition and decarbonization

Climate change persists as a pressing global issue due to high greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel-based energy sources. A transition to a greener energy matrix combined with carbon offsetting is imperative to mitigate the rate at which global temperature ascends. While countries have deployed faith in green hydrogen to accelerate worldwide decarbonization efforts, the concurrent rise of blockchain-operated crypto-applications, such as bitcoin, has exacerbated climate change concerns. In this study, we propose technological solutions that combine the green hydrogen infrastructure with bitcoin mining operations to catalyze environmental and socioeconomic sustainability in climate change mitigation strategies. Since the present state of crypto-operations undeniably contributes to worldwide carbon emissions, it becomes vital to explore opportunities for harnessing the widespread enthusiasm for bitcoin as an aid toward a sustainable and climate-friendly future. Our findings reveal that green hydrogen production, paired with crypto-operations, can accelerate the deployment of solar and wind power capacities to boost conventional mitigation frameworks. Specifically, leveraging the economic potential derived from green hydrogen and bitcoin for incremental investment in renewable energy penetration, this dynamic duo can enable capacity expansions of up to 25.5% and 73.2% for solar and wind power installations. Therefore, the proposed technological solutions that leverage green hydrogen and bitcoin mining, bolstered with appropriate policy interventions, can not only strengthen renewable power generation and carbon offsetting capacities but also contribute significantly to achieving climate sustainability.

Multicriteria GIS-based assessment of biomass energy potentials in Nigeria.

The understanding of the geographical variability of biomass energy is an essential requirement for the optimal location of biomass energy conversion plants. This research presents a multicriteria GIS-based assessment of biomass energy potentials and the appropriate siting of biomass plants in Nigeria. The study applies the weighted overlay multicriteria decision analysis method. Crop and forest areas, settlement (energy supply areas), shrub/grasslands, barren land, water bodies, distance from water sources, road accessibility, topography, and aspect are the criteria that were considered for locating a biomass facility in this study. The results suggest that the theoretical, technical, and economical energy potentials of crop residues are highest in the North-East region of Nigeria and estimated at 1,163.32, 399.73, and 110.56PJ/yr, respectively, and lowest in the South-East at 52.36, 17.99, and 4.98PJ/yr, respectively. The theoretical, technical, and economical energy potentials of forest residues are highest in the North-West, estimated at 260.18, 156.11, and 43.18PJ/yr, respectively, and lowest in the South-East at 1.79, 1.08, and 0.30PJ/yr, respectively. Although most areas were identified to be suitable for siting biomass plants across Nigeria, the most suitable areas are located in the northern part of the country and include Niger, Zamfara, the Federal Capital Territory, Nassarawa, Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Borno State. The study supports the Nigerian bio-energy policy that proposes to effectively utilize Nigeria's non-fuelwood as a substitute for the felling of trees. This is very important to strengthen its commitment at the COP26 International Climate Conference, which is to conserve and restore its forest. Furthermore, this study will serve as a good reference for policymakers to make well-informed decisions on tackling the energy insecurity in Nigeria.

Economic impact of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) on local economies: a literature review

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The use of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) has gained considerable attention within the recreation industry. The incorporation of ATVs into tourism and recreational activities has demonstrated substantial economic potential for local economies. However, there is a lack of comprehensive knowledge regarding the economic impact of ATV recreation. This paper conducts an extensive review of existing literature from 2004 to 2022, evaluating the economic impact of ATVs on local economies in the United States. The review aims to identify commonalities and disparities among existing economic impact studies and assess whether these studies have included costs associated with ATV-induced environmental, societal, and public health damages in their economic assessments. To this end, there is a scarcity of scientific peer reviewed journal articles that exclusively focus on the economic impact of ATVs. As such, we reviewed a total of seven publications comprising reports. The results of our analysis shed light on similarities and differences in aspects of resident and non-resident ATV spending, type of ATV expenditures, and the approaches used to evaluate economic impact assessment. The findings indicate that existing studies have assessed the economic impact of ATVs solely based on gross expenditures, lacking comprehensive inclusion of the costs associated with ATV damages to the environment, society, and human health. This study advocates for the need for a more comprehensive consideration of both benefits and costs in the economic impact of ATVs to assist ATV business managers, policymakers, and researchers in making informed decisions and planning future programs.</span></p>

The Potential of Participatory Social Economics: A Framework and Feminist Perspective

Recurrent economic, ecological and democratic crises provoke opportunities to critically examine previously unquestioned assumptions about economies, an effort which can include those people on which the theory and practice are usually designed and tested. This article claims that there is a role for participatory research (PR) approaches to play for social economists seeking to understand and support local problem-solving, especially in social economy activities and socioecological change processes. The objective of the article is twofold: first, a simple framework for understanding the different manifestations of PR will be presented based on the degree to which a project has (a) scientific or transformative goals, and (b) hierarchical or democratic decision-making. Second, this text will discuss the kind of PR that is ethically and epistemologically compatible with social economic scholarship. This theoretical argument is grounded in feminist, Black and Indigenous principles of (1) highlighting subjective and socially-embedded perspectives, (2) critically interrogating power dynamics within research contexts and processes, and (3) ethically engaging participants in collaborative research. Such an approach aims to dismantle the hierarchical binary between scientific and non-scientific knowledges, with social economists actively contributing to collective problem-solving efforts rather than acting as detached observers and planners.

They make money off chaos: Understanding racially extractive policing regimes through a subjugated lens

ABSTRACT This paper expands our understanding of the lived experience of policing by exploring how people describe and analyze one of its salient aspects: its economic consequences. Despite growing scholarship on predatory policing strategies in the aftermath of the Justice Department’s investigation of Ferguson, Missouri, we lack an understanding of how these practices are experienced, theorized, and resisted by policed, race-class subjugated (RCS) communities. How do people narrate, make meaning from, or theorize their material relationship to policing? Do policed publics understand such practices as part of broader processes of racialized governance, political power, and community inequality? Utilizing the Portals Policing Project, we collected the largest contemporary database of narratives about policing, including over 850 dialogues that were qualitatively coded. Using a grounded theory approach we analyzed a subset of dialogues that focus on financial aspects of police, court, and carceral encounters to examine how people discussed their experiences with monetary sanctions and their broader meanings and relationships to racialized political economy and geography. When people analyzed the material dimensions of policing and incarceration, four prominent discursive theorizations emerged: (1) Police and courts deploy a variety of techniques (criminalizing public space, strategic application of child support fees, unfair taxation, among others) to structurally control the flow of RCS resources, often toward the state and non-policed White communities. (2) Such resource flows occur in the broader context of municipal prioritization of police and carceral institutions over schools and social services, which permit and sustain RCS community criminalization, extraction, and reproduction of marginalization. (3) Police construct racialized urban spaces and markets, marking informal RCS economic activity as transgressive and delimiting their expansion. (4) Police surveillance is racially embodied and permeates daily life to restrict individual activity and, indirectly, economic potential. Overall, these narratives center the police and carceral state in processes of materialized race-making—the active reproduction of racial economic inequality and dispossession that goes beyond basic racial disparities in state punishment and revenue generation.

Synergistic Effect of Co-Mo Pinning in Lay-Structured Oxide Cathode for Enhancing Stability toward Potassium-Ion Batteries.

Owing to the high economic efficiency and energy density potential, manganese-based layer-structured oxides have attracted great interests as cathode materials for potassium ion batteries. In order to alleviate the continuous phase transition and K+ re-embedding from Jahn-Teller distortion, the [Mn-Co-Mo]O6 octahedra are introduced into P3-K0.45MnO2 herein to optimize the local electron structure. Based on the experimental and computational results, the octahedral center metal molybdenum in [MoO6] octahedra proposes a smaller ionic radius and higher oxidation state to induce second-order JTE (pseudo-JTE) distortion in the adjacent [MnO6] octahedra. This distortion compresses the [MnO6] octahedra along the c-axis, leading to an increased interlayer spacing in the K+ layer. Meanwhile, the Mn3+/Mn4+ is balanced by [CoO6] octahedra and the K+ diffusion pathway is optimized as well. The proposed P3-K0.45Mn0.9Co0.05Mo0.05O2 cathode material shows an enhanced cycling stability and rate performance. It demonstrates a high capacity of 80.2mAhg-1 at 100mAhg-1 and 77.3mAhg-1 at 500mAhg-1. Furthermore, it showcases a 2000 cycles stability with a 59.6% capacity retention. This work presents a promising solution to the challenges faced by manganese-based layered oxide cathodes and offers a deep mechanism understanding and improved electrochemical performance.

Theoretical aspects of definition and implementation natural-economic potential of agricultural organizations

The article presents the results of theoretical research, as a result of which the author’s definition of the natural-economic potential of agricultural organizations is formulated, its characteristics and structure are given; the connection between the potentials of the external and internal environment is shown; a model for realizing natural and economic potential in the agricultural sector is presented; methodological approaches to assessing the potential of agricultural enterprises are considered, and the principles of its balanced use are substantiated.

Exogenous betaine enhances salt tolerance of Glycyrrhiza uralensis through multiple pathways

BackgroundGlycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch., a valuable medicinal plant, shows contrasting salt tolerance between seedlings and perennial individuals, and salt tolerance at seedling stage is very weak. Understanding this difference is crucial for optimizing cultivation practices and maximizing the plant’s economic potential. Salt stress resistance at the seedling stage is the key to the cultivation of the plant using salinized land. This study investigated the physiological mechanism of the application of glycine betaine (0, 10, 20, 40, 80 mM) to seedling stages of G. uralensis under salt stress (160 mM NaCl).ResultsG. uralensis seedlings’ growth was severely inhibited under NaCl stress conditions, but the addition of GB effectively mitigated its effects, with 20 mM GB had showing most significant alleviating effect. The application of 20 mM GB under NaCl stress conditions significantly increased total root length (80.38%), total root surface area (93.28%), and total root volume (175.61%), and significantly increased the GB content in its roots, stems, and leaves by 36.88%, 107.05%, and 21.63%, respectively. The activity of betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (BADH2) was increased by 74.10%, 249.38%, and 150.60%, respectively. The 20 mM GB-addition treatment significantly increased content of osmoregulatory substances (the contents of soluble protein, soluble sugar and proline increased by 7.05%, 70.52% and 661.06% in roots, and also increased by 30.74%, 47.11% and 26.88% in leaves, respectively.). Furthermore, it markedly enhanced the activity of antioxidant enzymes and the content of antioxidants (SOD, CAT, POD, APX and activities and ASA contents were elevated by 59.55%, 413.07%, 225.91%, 300.00% and 73.33% in the root, and increased by 877.51%, 359.89%, 199.15%, 144.35%, and 108.11% in leaves, respectively.), and obviously promoted salt secretion capacity of the leaves, which especially promoted the secretion of Na+ (1.37 times).ConclusionsIn summary, the exogenous addition of GB significantly enhances the salt tolerance of G. uralensis seedlings, promoting osmoregulatory substances, antioxidant enzyme activities, excess salt discharge especially the significant promotion of the secretion of Na+Future studies should aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that operate when GB regulates saline stress tolerance.

Potential Economic and Ecosystem Performances of Some Mediterranean Fruit Plants in an Urban Context

This study focuses on the possibility of using fruit tree species, from an urban area in central Italy, to evaluate their possible productive, ecosystem, and economic contribution. The realization of the food forest was conducted through the use of a web app that can evaluate the climatic and ecosystem performance of trees in the city. This simulation can provide the city’s government with useful information on the ecosystem and the socioeconomic benefits of planting fruit trees in an urban park. Among the four chosen species, both Ficus carica and Morus nigra showed good potential fruit production of 1300 kg and 865 kg and a CO2 storage of 2.5 and 1.5 tons. Virtual analysis of machine learning models for diseases prediction in muskmelon

Muskmelon, a crop prized for its economic potential, has a relatively brief growth cycle. Disease susceptibility during this period can have a profound impact on yields, posing challenges for farmers. Environmental conditions are pivotal in disease occurrence. Unfavorable conditions reduce the likelihood of pathogens infecting vulnerable host plants as temperature and humidity influence pathogen behavior, including toxin synthesis, virulence protein production, and reproduction. Pathogens can lie dormant in the soil until suitable conditions activate them. When the right environment and host plants align, these dormant pathogens can cause outbreaks. Disease prediction becomes possible by analyzing environmental variables. Real-time data collected via strategically placed sensors focused on viral, fungal, and bacterial infections. Results indicated that the extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) algorithm, with a maximum tree depth of 4 and 30 trees per iteration, achieved remarkable performance, yielding an accuracy of 97%. For comparison, the XGBoost model outperformed an 8-layer Backpropagation network with 7 nodes per layer, which achieved 95% accuracy. These findings underscore XGBoost's efficacy in forecasting and mitigating muskmelon plant diseases, offering the potential for improved crop yields and agricultural sustainability.
