EVALUATION OF THE ACTIVITIES OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS PROCESSING ENTERPRISES IN AZERBAIJAN AND DIRECTIONS OF THEIR DEVELOPMENT

Agriculture, as one of the key sectors of economic activity, provides the world’s population with food, raw materials, and various other resources. It is this sector that supplies people with essential products vital for daily existence, including grains, meat, fruits, vegetables, milk, and other food items. Without the agricultural industry, feeding the entire planet would be impossible, and many people would face hunger. Additionally, agriculture serves as the foundation for the production of many goods, such as paper, textiles, plastics, and cosmetics, most of which are made from plant raw materials sourced from this sector. It is clear that agricultural products act as a raw material base for many processing enterprises. Instead of exporting these products as raw materials, utilizing them domestically can make a significant contribution to the national economy. Thus, the expansion of processing enterprises in the agricultural sector will lead to an increase in budget revenues, a higher volume of exports of finished products, the creation of new jobs, and, most importantly, an improvement in the self-sufficiency of the country’s population in essential food products, thereby enhancing food security. All of this demonstrates the significant importance of developing and expanding processing enterprises in the agricultural sector. Relevance of the topic: In a number of dominant countries around the world, agriculture, as an important sector of the economy, not only provides the population with basic food products but also offers other opportunities. Agriculture is one of the main sources of employment. The availability of jobs is a crucial factor for the development of specific regions within a country, contributing to the improvement of economic stability and the standard of living in these areas. Agriculture actively stimulates the development of science and technology, including biotechnology, genetic research, the development of fertilizers and pesticides, and new methods of soil cultivation, all of which help increase productivity and improve crop quality. It plays a crucial role in ensuring global sustainable development, as it is vital for the stable progress of humanity. For example, this may include the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity, which can be achieved by reducing the use of chemicals and water in crop rotation and adopting sustainable farming methods—one of the environmentally friendly production techniques. Therefore, evaluating the current state of agricultural processing enterprises and continuously investigating development directions is one of the main research objectives. The purpose of the article is to determine the role played by enterprises operating in the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan and engaged in the processing of agricultural products in the country’s economy, to evaluate the current state of their activities and influencing factors. Additionally, the article aims to justify the role of the state in the development of these enterprises, review the mechanisms of state support, strengthen competitiveness for the expansion of their activities, investigate the directions for expanding market opportunities, and provide recommendations on all of these aspects. Research methods: grouping, generalization, systematic approach, development dynamics, synthesis and analysis, comparative analysis, factor analysis, economic-statistical analysis Scientific innovation: The article justifies the need to reveal and evaluate the economic potential of processing enterprises in the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan, with certain methodological principles serving as the foundation. It emphasizes the need to increase the efficiency of utilizing economic potential and develop a strategy for the development of processing enterprises, adopting a systematic approach. It has been determined that the sustainable development strategy of the enterprises studied aligns with the general development strategy of the industry, the region, and the country’s economy as a whole.

GLOBAL TRENDS IN CREATIVE INDUSTRIES AND THEIR IMPACT ON TOURISM: BIBLIOMETRIC RESEARCH

This scientific article presents a bibliometric analysis of research in the field of creative economy and creative industries, based on data from the scientometric database Web of Science. A total of 1,356 and 4,121 articles were analyzed within the search queries “creative economy” and “creative industries”, respectively. The authors used the methods of bibliographic analysis, clustering and graphical interpretation to identify key scientific trends, the dynamics of publication activity and the citation structure within the framework of the studied scientific problems. Within the framework of the first search query (by the keyword “creative economy”), 6 frame clusters were obtained that characterize the key trends in the study of publication activity according to the studied criterion: the first – “cultural aspects and employment in the creative economy”; the second – “cultural heritage, cultural tourism and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the development of the creative sector of economic activity”; the third – “the economy of culture, art, creative cities and the creation of cluster structures”; the fourth, reflecting the aspects of agglomeration, economic growth of territories. the fifth, characterizing the issues of responsible consumption; the sixth, uniting works that reveal the possibilities of forming competitive advantages by companies representing the creative sector. Visualization of keywords related to creative industries (when constructing frame clusters) demonstrates their interdisciplinary nature, covering economic, innovative, urban, cultural, social and technological aspects. In addition, publications included in frame clusters emphasize the role of developing digital skills, communication, and generative AI, indicating the growing influence of technologies in the development of creative industries. In addition, the authors identified key trends within the analyzed publication activity that affect the development of the tourism industry, including the development of creative tourism.

Substantiation of an Indicator System for Assessing the Transport and Logistics Potential of Regional Water Transport

The article discusses the issues of substantiation of the system of indicators for assessing the transport and logistics potential of regional water transport. The relevance of this problem is due to the insufficient elaboration of the rationale and the absence of a comprehensive set of quantitative indicators characterizing this sector of economic activity. The objective of the study is to develop proposals for organizing a multicomponent monitoring system based on mathematical tools to accurately reflect the current state of the water transport complex, considering its development directions. Mathematical analysis was used as the primary methodological approach. The empirical foundation of the study comprises scientific works of prominent economists. The main outcome is the development of a three-component model of the transport and logistics potential of the regional water transport complex, enabling the calculation of a composite indicator — its integral assessment — which is valuable for further theoretical analysis. This model can also be used by executive authorities of Russian Federation regions for making prompt management decisions.

THE IMPACT OF THE UKRAINIAN-RUSSIAN WAR ON THE ORGANIZATION OF INTERNATIONAL TOURISM BUSINESS IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

Traditionally, military upheavals are a barrier to the development of tourism as a sector of economic activity. This publication is dedicated to analyzing the still unexplored results of the impact of the war in Ukraine on the development of international tourism business in Central and Eastern European countries. It is noted that there are many examples showing that political risks in recent years have caused significant harm to international tourism. The article justifies the idea that political instability has a long-term nature and plays a key role in shaping international tourism strategies. A comparative study of political risks at the country and regional levels for tourism provides deeper and more comprehensive conclusions for existing research. The regulatory role of state policy in the tourism industry has been recognized by scholars, most of whom empirically studied the impact of state policy on tourism development. It is noted that the region under study differs from the methodology used by UNWTO and covers countries located to the west of Ukraine's territory (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania). For the preparation of the publication, statistical analysis methods and analytical generalization were used. The factual basis consisted of statistical data from national tourism organizations of the studied countries, the UNWTO website, and Eurostat. The article analyzes key trends inherent in the international tourism business of Central and Eastern European countries, related to tourism revenues and tourist flows, how they correlate with post-COVID processes, and how the Ukrainian-Russian war has adjusted the tourism markets of these states. Emphasis is placed on comparing indicators of the hospitality industry, logistics, and the formation of regional tourism policies. The ongoing Ukrainian-Russian war has significantly impacted the international tourism industry in Central and Eastern European countries. The region, which previously served as a transit zone and a popular tourist destination, has undergone significant changes in tourist flows, security perceptions, and the organization of international tourism business. The war has changed the strategic priorities of tourism business stakeholders. There is an increased focus on crisis management, risk assessment, and diversification of target markets. Many tourism companies have intensified cooperation with government agencies to ensure safe travel conditions and to restore the region’s image as a secure and welcoming tourist destination. Keywords:international tourism business, international tourist flows, Central and Eastern European countries, hospitality industry, tourism logistics, employment in tourism.

Global risk aversion and returns from faith-based assets across market conditions

Abstract This study renders an empirical documentation of the resilience of Islamic stocks, from various sectors of economic activity, as a safe-haven and hedge against global risk aversion (GRA) during bullish, normal, and bearish market conditions. Using the causality-in-quantiles and quantile regression techniques, the analysis reveals that (i) GRA significantly predicts the returns from Islamic stocks across quantiles, (ii) faith-based stocks belonging to both the “real” and “services-driven” sectors retain their safe-haven and hedge attributes against GRA across various economic conditions, and (iii) assets from the real sector are more attractive than those from the services-driven sector. These findings underscore the importance of sectoral composition in determining the effectiveness of faith-based assets as risk mitigation tools. Moreover, the asymmetric and nonlinear dependence structures observed across quantiles suggest that investors' preferences for Islamic equities are heightened during periods of elevated global uncertainty. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on ethical investing by offering fresh insights into the dynamic relationship between global risk aversion and the performance of Islamic financial instruments. Policy implications are discussed for portfolio managers, institutional investors, and regulators aiming to enhance market stability through diversification into resilient, faith-based asset classes.

ASSESSMENT OF THE SENSITIVITY OF UKRAINIAN ENTERPRISES’ INVESTMENT ACTIVITY ON PROFITS AS A FACTOR OF APPROACHING TO THE MODEL OF SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS DEVELOPMEN

The article is devoted to thoroughly testing the tools for quantitative assessment of the sensitivity of enterprises’ investment activity to the size of the profit they receive. The urgent need to take into account the inevitable time lag that naturally occurs between the periods of receiving profit increment and the subsequent periods of the revival of investment activity caused by such profit increment, as well as carefully taking into account the significant impact of the profitability of alternative directions of using the profit received, ultimately led to the use of fundamental principles and advanced tools of cost-benefit analysis to effectively form the research database. The comprehensive results obtained allowed us to confidently substantiate the clear presence of a well-defined trend towards gradually increasing the sensitivity of business investment activity to the actual size of the profits received. We explicitly interpret this as compelling evidence of the enormous potential of those policy levers that strategically encourage enterprises to fully comply with the key requirements of the sustainable development model, including actively investing in significantly improving the energy efficiency of production, systematically introducing innovative resource-saving technologies, and meaningfully expanding business participation in directly financing the continuous development of human capital, etc., using targeted economic incentives. The meaningful results obtained convincingly characterize the prevailing tendency of businesses to prudently invest their accumulated profits in tangible real assets (expansion of production capabilities) only at the aggregate level of the entire economy and without properly taking into account the detailed distribution of investments by specific direction (in both tangible and intangible assets and in more detail: in land; in existing buildings and structures; in machinery and equipment; in software, etc.). Accordingly, further in-depth research should explicitly clarify the actual sensitivity of business investment activity to continuous changes in profit levels in a highly differentiated manner – within individual types of economic activity and distinct sectors, and also ensure that all critical differences in the technological and reproductive structure of investments are fully taken into account.

Impact of Digital Literacy on Informality of MSMES

The majority of MSMEs stayed informal in many developing countries. This has become a problem because it creates a negative impact on government and business itself. Digital transformation has a transformative impact on formalizing SMEs. This transformation needs entrepreneurs to have a certain level of ability and competence in digital literacy. The main objective of this research is to investigate the impact of higher-level digital literacy of entrepreneurs on MSMEs informality. Informality is defined by three characteristics: bookkeeping, legality, and access to credit on bank. Digital literacy is defined by index constructed using Item Response Theory. Using Propensity Score Matching (PSM) to tackle selection bias and using Ordinary Least Square to analyze the impact of digital literacy, our findings show that digital literacy have a statistically significant and slightly more positive impact on legality than impact on access to credit on bank. In addition, we found that the impact of higher digital literacy on informality is significantly more prominent in western side of Indonesia. However, there is a different impact of higher digital literacy on different sectors of economic activities.

Problematic issues of legal regulation and management accounting in construction

Introduction. The construction industry plays a crucial role in the Ukrainian economy, particularly in the context of post-war reconstruction, which requires effective accounting and investment control. However, the regulatory framework governing accounting in the construction sector contains inconsistencies that may lead to errors and complicate managerial decision-making. The purpose of the article. This article aims to analyze scientific literature and regulatory documents on cost accounting for construction enterprises and justify the need for amendments to these regulations. Results. The study examines the current state of regulatory provisions related to the accounting of construction companies. Proposed amendments and additions to Methodological Recommendations No. 573 aim to align them with the latest regulatory requirements for cost accounting in the construction industry. The analysis clarifies the distinction between the concepts of «cost accounting object» and «costing object,» defining their components within the construction sector. The inclusion of administrative and selling expenses in the total cost of construction and installation works within management accounting is justified to improve the accuracy of financial results and assess the efficiency of business units involved in construction projects. Additionally, the article suggests using the term «expenditures» alongside «expenses» in accounting terminology to enhance the precision of financial reporting and economic analysis. Prospects. Further research should focus on refining regulatory and internal accounting policies in other sectors of economic activity.

Examining the Impact of R&D Tax Credits on Employment Growth Across Economic Sectors

The present study probes the impact of Research and Development (R&D) tax credits on employment growth in Portugal from 2014 to 2022, particularly on the total employees, R&D staff, and PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) holders across economic activity sectors. Objectives: We aim to assess whether R&D tax credits lead to employment growth, particularly in industries reliant on highly skilled R&D personnel. Methods/Analysis: Using firm-level data from Portugal’s R&D survey, we apply a difference-in-differences (DiD) approach with an event study and staggered design for temporal analysis. This methodology, enhanced by a staggered design, allows us to isolate the effects across periods, comparing treated firms with controls within sectors classified by the NACE Rev. 2 system. Findings: Results reveal that R&D tax credits significantly enhance employment for R&D staff, with the information and communication sector having an 18.4% increase and the manufacturing sector rising 12.3%. Novelty/Improvement: Using firm-level data and a staggered DiD design, this study offers granular insights into sectoral variations, underscoring the importance of sector-specific policies. Findings provide valuable guidance for policymakers optimizing and enhancing the R&D tax credits framework to support employment at different levels of expertise and across different economic activity spheres. Employment of young specialists in rural areas of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan: key competencies, employment conditions

The issue of employment of rural youth in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan is relevant and timely, since socio-economic problems of the village have significant impact on development of rural areas and prospects of young rural residents. Young specialists face limited employment opportunities, which complicates their social and economic integration. In particular, lack of jobs with adequate pay and lack of prospects stimulate mass migration from rural areas. The goal is to substantiate systematic approach to solving the problems of providing jobs for young farmers through education reforms, infrastructure modernization and support for entrepreneurship. Among the main barriers to the provision of jobs are discrepancy between educational programs and labor market needs and high dependence of rural economy on agricultural sector, which lead to increase in the share of informal sector of economic activity and increase in the outflow of qualified young personnel to the cities. Methods - quantitative, tracking the dynamics of young people's involvement in the labor force and unemployment of young rural residents in the period from 2010 to 2023, which made it possible to identify key factors; qualitative - thematic analysis of program cases that contribute to deep understanding of socio-economic processes in rural regions; graphical - for a visual representation of the structural transformation of the rural economy. The results demonstrate direct impact of youth migration and mismatch of professional skills on the level of employment. An integration model has been developed, including 11 key elements aimed at creating conditions for labor adaptation of the younger generation. Vocational training programs, development of small and medium businesses, investment in innovative technologies and infrastructure modernization are proposed. The findings emphasize the need for integrated approach, including educational reforms, economic diversification and government support for sustainable development of rural areas of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Temporal trend of workplace accidents incidence in Brazil, according to federative units, and by sector of economic activity.

The objective of this study was to assess the temporal trend of workplace accidents (WA) incidence in Brazil, across its federative units (FU) and by economic activity sector, from 2009 to 2019. An ecological study of time series was conducted using data from the Statistical Yearbook of Occupational Accidents (AEAT InfoLogo) and the Statistical Yearbook of Social Security (AEPS InfoLogo). The annual percent change (APC) of WA incidence rates and the 95% confidence intervals were estimated through Prais-Winsten linear regression. The average WA rate per 1,000 work contracts decreased from 21.64 to 13.72, with an APC of -4.45%. The reduction was observed across all age groups, both genders, and in 26 FU. Incidence rates of WA requiring medical assistance or resulting in disability also showed a declining trend. There was also variation in the indicator among different categories of the National Classification of Economic Activities, with some categories exhibiting a more pronounced declining trend than others. The decrease in WA rates and the declining trend in FU may be the result of public policies and strategies adopted in recent years to address workplace accidents.

The Job Quality Side of Climate Change

Climate change is having a profound and transformative impact on the way we live and work. These impacts are direct, through the great shifts in temperatures and weather patterns which are being growingly felt across the globe, and indirect, through the measures and policies that are being deployed in order to tackle it. The Council recommendation on ensuring a fair transition towards climate neutrality confirm the endorsement of EU Member States towards “the imperatives of a just transition of the workforce and the creation of decent work and job quality”, which have been established in the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. This idea motivated Eurofound in a recent report, “the Job quality side of climate change” to investigate how climate change impacts job quality through a literature review, the consultation of its European network of correspondents and some statistical analysis of the European Working Conditions Telephone Survey of 2021. The article will first set the scene by describing job quality, and its main components, depicting the relationship between Green House Gas emissions (GHG) and the employment levels by sector of economic activity. The latter can suggest priorities for decarbonisation. Changes in jobs also occur as result of greening which is the process through which occupations adapt the content of their tasks to climate change with a significant impact on changes in the work performed and job quality in these occupations. It will then explore how job quality is expected to change due to climate change risks, and as a result of the greening of tasks and occupations. It will finally consider climate change as a possible driver to reinventing work, by changing the work processes involved in the current extraction, production, distribution and consumption systems which would also impact on the job quality of workers.

Digital intermediaries and transparency reports as strategic communications

To enrich our understanding of the challenges of realizing meaningful transparency and accountability in platform governance, this study seeks to examine the institutionalization of “transparency reports” among digital intermediaries. Conceptually, it innovates by centering transparency reports as corporate social responsibility disclosures and by elaborating an argument that these voluntary disclosures are an emerging institutional practice that is shaped by isomorphic pressures. In contrast with the established analysis of other sectors of economic activity, sustained research on corporate social responsibility in the information and communications technology sector is underdeveloped. In addition to enriching the corporate social responsibility literature on digital intermediaries, this study makes a two-fold theoretical contribution to platform governance literature. First, it offers empirical data to support an emerging industry norm diffused among firms across jurisdictions. Second, it offers an explanatory rationale for both Big Tech and small and midsize enterprises (SMEs). For market leaders, who are under increased scrutiny as “new governors” in the online environment, transparency reports are issued as legitimacy-seeking strategic communications. For SMEs – animated by mimetic isomorphism – transparency reports are issued to imitate market leaders and virtue signal.

Street Vendor Empowerment in Bantul District: Analysis of the Role of the Indonesian Street Vendor Association of Struggle (APKLI-P) Based on the Perspective of Sharia Economics

Based on the latest data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2023, around 60.12% of the Indonesian workforce works in the informal sector, indicating the dominance of this sector in the national economy. However, in urban areas, informal sector economic activities, especially street vendors (PKL), often face various challenges that require structured solutions. One of the main problems street vendors face in Bantul Regency is limited business capital, which causes them to be trapped in loan shark loans that are not per Sharia principles. This study aims to analyze the role of the Indonesian Street Vendors Association of Struggle (APKLI-P) in empowering street vendors in Bantul Regency from a sharia economic perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method at the DPD APKLI-P Bantul Regency. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with 20 street vendor members, and documentation of empowerment programs carried out by APKLI-P. The data obtained were analyzed using source triangulation to ensure the validity of the research results. The findings show that APKLI-P has implemented various empowerment programs, such as developing culinary areas, providing business opportunities through local events, managing multi-purpose cooperatives, and providing halal certification. The impact of this program is measured through increased income, access to new business opportunities, and significant improvements in the welfare of street vendors. This study also highlights how the application of Islamic economic principles by APKLI-P has succeeded in strengthening social solidarity and creating equality and justice in society. However, this study has limitations in terms of generalizing the findings to other regions, and further research is recommended to test the effectiveness of this empowerment model in different regional contexts.

The deployment of circular industrial ecosystems – the condition of eco-efficient elimination of the consequences for the environment caused by military actions

The consequences of military actions are an unprecedented case of environmental damage in Ukraine. According to official data, more than 670,000 tonnes of waste were generated due to the damage (destruction) of buildings and structures as a result of hostilities in the territory of Ukraine, which can be considered the minimum possible amount according to the preliminary assessment. Attacks continue and lead to increased volumes of waste, burden on land use in communities and creation of ecological threat. International experience shows the possibility of obtaining ecological, social and economic benefits from the reuse of construction and demolition waste. In the context of the implementation of the European integration vector, Ukraine should focus on the effective management of such waste based on the principles of the circular economy − reuse, recycling and recovery. The fulfilment of this urgent task is possible thanks to the creation of conditions for the deployment of industrial circular ecosystems − a set of entities of various economic activity sectors and civil society that work and evolve together with the aim of creating added value based on the principles of reducing the use of primary materials, reusing materials and products, their processing and recovery, thereby extending the life cycle of goods and forming their enhanced value. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the expediency of deploying circular industrial ecosystems as a condition for eco-efficient elimination of the consequences for the environment caused by military actions. Based on the example of the eponymous project of the global company Energy Vault on gravitational energy storage using composite blocks, which are created with industrial waste and construction and demolition waste, key actions are outlined that will contribute to the emergence and development of circular industrial ecosystems in Ukraine around existing technologies. A range of problematic issues that need to be solved for the formation of institutions, routines, behaviour and culture of economic entities for the deployment of circular industrial ecosystems, in particular, with the aim of eco-efficient elimination of the consequences for the environment caused by military actions, is outlined. Recommendations have been provided on updating the legal support for the management of waste from the demolition of buildings and structures as a result of hostilities; reforming and expanding the range of tools for stimulating sustainable waste management; as well as developing interdisciplinary research.
