The development of tourism in Neum , Bosnia and Herzegovina’s only coastal town, represents a complex process that began during Yugoslavia’s socialist era, marked by various social, architectural, and ecological challenges. During the 1960’s, alongside accelerated urbanization, transportati on infrastructure, and secondary housing, Neum experienced a transformation from a local community to a remarkable tourist destination. Architecture of that period, marked by modernist principles, was not just functional, but reflected a wide socialist ide ology - promoting collective welfare, harmony with natural surroundings, and inclusivity. However, the expansion of tourism in Neum also brought problems, such as illegal construction, the destruction of landscape, and spatial segregation . The aim of this research is to analyze how the elements of socialist modernist architecture can be used as a base for the further development of hotel complexes in Neum. Modernist architecture from the socialist period provides various important lessons for today’s u rban p lanning. It’s basic principles - simplicity, functionality, and the adaptation to the natural terrain, offer a relevant frame for the contemporary development of tourism. In this context, this research focuses on the integration of those principles into con temporary architecture, with the aim of creating sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing hotels that satisfy the needs of t ourists, while keeping the local identity. With the use of primary and secondary sources, the analysis includes the study of current hotels in Neum, their architectural characteristics, and urban organization. Special attention is paid to challenges, such as unplanned const ruction, degradation of the coast, and the unequal development of different parts of the municipality. Through this analysis, concrete models for the further development of hotels are suggested, which include the incorporation of modernist principles, but with a comb ination of new approaches.

This study explores the implementation of Sharia principles in a Sharia hotel by focusing on the application of Fatwa DSN-MUI No. 108/DSN-MUI/X/2016 and the integration of Maqashid Syariah values. The research takes a qualitative approach using a case study of Syariah Radho Group in Malang. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings show that the hotel has adopted several aspects mandated by the fatwa, such as restrictions on immoral conduct, provision of prayer facilities, halal food, and a Sharia-compliant dress code. However, some elements, including formal halal certification and the use of Islamic financial institutions, are not yet fully implemented. The study concludes that while the hotel's practices reflect a genuine commitment to Islamic values, the lack of formal institutional structures and certification hinders full compliance. This article contributes to the discourse on Sharia hotel development and highlights the importance of integrating regulatory fatwas with Maqashid Syariah to support the growth of halal tourism in Indonesia.

This study examines the legal framework for restricting the development of tourist accommodations as an instrument for supporting sustainable tourism, particularly in tourism destinations such as Bali. The policy of restricting the development of new hotels, villas, and restaurants aims to maintain environmental balance, protect agricultural land, and control the negative impacts of mass tourism. The legal basis analyzed includes Law Number 10 of 2009 concerning Tourism as amended by Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation, Law Number 26 of 2007 concerning Spatial Planning, and Bali Provincial Regulations concerning Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) and sustainable development policies. The results of the study indicate that normatively, the restriction on the development of tourist accommodations has a strong legal basis within the regulatory framework, as it aligns with the principles of sustainable development, environmental conservation, and protecting the interests of local communities. However, policy implementation still faces challenges in the form of potential conflicts of interest between tourism businesses and local governments, as well as limited oversight and law enforcement mechanisms. Therefore, the effectiveness of the policy of restricting tourist accommodations in supporting sustainable tourism requires strengthening derivative regulations, consistent law enforcement, and increased community participation.

Waecicu Beach, located north of Labuan Bajo in West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, is renowned for its tourism potential and resort accommodations. However, the increasing number of visitors to Labuan Bajo has not been accompanied by adequate growth in resort hotel facilities, presenting a key challenge. This research analyzes the tourism potential of Waecicu Beach, focusing on the area’s only resort hotel. The objective is to identify tourism aspects that should be prioritized to develop a sustainable resort hotel landscape. The study employs a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, with variables based on the Analysis of Operational Areas of Objects and Natural Tourism Attractions (Analisis Daerah Operasi Obyek dan Daya Tarik Wisata Alam, ADO-ODTWA). Data collection methods include focus group discussions, interviews, questionnaires, and observations. The analysis integrates ADO-ODTWA with the Likert Scale to identify development priorities. The results reveal six key variables to prioritize: tourist attractions, accessibility, amenities, surrounding area conditions, security, and management and services. Emphasizing these variables in resort hotel development can enhance local community involvement, from the initial planning stage to management and service delivery. Additionally, early identification of maintenance needs can help increase visitor loyalty, ensure the availability of maintenance funding, and contribute to community welfare.

Tarakan City, with its enormous potential as a center for economic, trade, and tourism, faces challenges in providing premium accommodation facilities. Although the city continues to grow rapidly, particularly with the growth of the tourism sector driven by its natural beauty and cultural diversity, the availability of adequate four-star hotels remains limited. This poses a barrier to the growth of domestic and international tourists who require comfortable and quality accommodation facilities. Therefore, the design of this four-star hotel is crucial to strengthening Tarakan City's tourism sector, which can not only provide quality accommodation but also have a positive impact on the local economy. The application of the Neo-Vernacular Architecture concept in the design of this hotel aims to connect the past with the future, by combining local traditional elements that are characteristic of Tarakan's culture, such as the Baloy Mayo traditional house, with the functional and modern requirements required for a four-star hotel development. This approach is expected to create a building that not only meets international standards of comfort and facilities, but also has a strong identity, reflects the richness of local culture, and provides high aesthetic value. In this design, the tropical climate of Tarakan City is also a major consideration, so that the hotel building is not only comfortable, but also environmentally friendly and can optimize the use of natural energy. Thus, this hotel is expected to function not only as a place to stay, but also as a symbol of tourism progress that still maintains cultural and environmental sustainability. The design of this four-star hotel also pays attention to aspects of sustainability and environmental friendliness, which are now essential requirements in every modern architectural project.

ABSTRACT With the rapid development of smart hotels, many studies have focused on the acceptance of technology and the experiences of young people. Meanwhile, few have explored the adoption of hotel technology amenities by the middle-aged and elderly group. To fill the research gaps, this study proposed several hypotheses and established a conceptual framework based on the technology acceptance model and theory of planned behavior. By collecting 300 samples of middle-aged and elderly tourists in China, PLS-SEM was utilized to test the hypotheses. A total of 283 samples of the younger age group were also collected to make comparisons and find out age differences. The results show that for middle-aged and elderly tourists, their perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness positively influenced their attitude toward using hotel technology amenities; the need for interaction with hotel service employees negatively affected their attitudes toward usage; perceived privacy protection had a positive impact on their attitude toward usage, but had no significant influence in the younger age group. Based on the results, it provides thoughtful theoretical implications and practical suggestions for the development of smart hotels in China.

ABSTRACT Although Disney theme parks have garnered critical attention, Disney hotels have been largely ignored. Yet, since the 1971 opening of Walt Disney World, Disney has designed hotels with theming that differs from park attractions and lands. As parks opened in Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, hotels evolved in three cost-based tiers: ‘luxury’, ‘moderate’, and ‘value’. This article periodises the history of hotel development over five decades into three phases that codified Disney’s hotel tiers. Examining the different periods of development shows how Disney’s luxury hotels associate the Disney brand with historic architecture and nineteenth-century upper class European tourism. Disney’s value tier meanwhile evolved to focus on generic popular culture themes. These hotel tiers create a luxury-driven, classed experience that defines a tourism of exclusivity.

Hotel staff management is a crucial part of hotel operations. Given the importance of hotel development, staff management has received increasing attention. However, the impact of hotel staff’s mental state on their emotions and behaviours has not been fully studied, especially in the post-pandemic era. Based on trust theory, this research examines how perceived trust and psychological safety influence the loyalty, subjective well-being, organizational belonging and job performance of employees. To achieve this research goal, we use a survey method to study the correlation between these variables. Using structural equation modelling analysis, we find that all research hypotheses are valid. This study contributes to the development of trust theory in hotel management and serves as a reference for improving the management and growth of hotel organizations.

Introduction. The introduction provides a justification for the use of rotels as hotels on wheels in the practice of tourism business. It is noted that traveling to remote destinations using motor vehicles can be comfortable, which is achieved through the implementation of the rotel concept. Theoretical analysis. The concept of “rotel” is absent in the norms of Russian law, which makes it difficult to define the analyzed term unambiguously. Rotel can be applied both to cruise trains and rolling stock of land road transport. Despite the growing popularity of tourist trains, one should not underestimate the relevance of rotels moving along highways. Empirical analysis. An analysis of the economic possibilities of introducing the rotel concept into the practice of the Saratov region tourism industry has shown the limited financial resources of Saratov tour operators for the implementation of the project. The market leaders demonstrate positive dynamics of net profit, which can be used for the development of hotels on wheels, however, the most suitable facilities for the implementation of the rotel concept are the transport companies of the Saratov region. The paper analyzes the bus tours of a tour operator, one of the tourism industry leaders and draws conclusions about the likely demand for routes using rotels. An indirect evidence of this type of transport popularity is the growing demand for Saratov tourists to travel around Russia. The first stage to the implementation of this concept may be options for tour routes in the home region. Results. The implementation of the rotel concept is an attractive direction for the development of the tourism industry from the point of view of the market. Such an idea can surprise tourists and get an emotional response from them. A promising option would be the cooperation of transport companies, in the future – owners of rotels, and tour operators chartering rotels in order to implement the formed tourist products.

The formation of market relations in the Ukrainian economy on the model of sustainable development necessitates the improvement of marketing, its ability to counteract the challenges of the negative impact of a changing market environment, where imperfections in the market conditions of hotel and restaurant services, excessive hotel and restaurant supply against the background of a decline in consumer demand for this type of service, and the lack of an effective organizational and economic mechanism for the development of the hotel and restaurant business at the regional level remain urgent. At the same time, the intensification of competition in the field of tourism and hospitality in the modern period necessitates the introduction by business entities of innovative marketing strategies adapted to industry micro- and macroeconomic risks and current problems of development of the Ukrainian hotel and restaurant business, etc. The study aims to generalize and develop theoretical and methodological foundations and practical recommendations for improving the methods and tools for implementing effective marketing strategies of enterprises in the hotel and restaurant business. It is determined that in a highly competitive environment, effective marketing plays a crucial role in the tourism and hospitality industry. The expediency of using the concept of “adaptive marketing strategy” as a way to achieve the strategic marketing goals of enterprise through the implementation of prompt and effective management decisions to ensure the necessary level of viability of enterprise and maximum satisfaction of consumer needs is substantiated, and a model of the basic determinants of forming an adaptive marketing strategy for enterprises in the hotel and restaurant industry (HRI) is proposed. It has been determined that several specific features and industry-specific conditions are necessary for developing the modern hotel and restaurant industry, and the need to introduce marketing activities that correspond to more innovative and evolutionary modified models of “5P… 7P”. Generalizing several existing theoretical and methodological approaches will allow us to highlight important accents, which, if considered at the development stage, will allow us to succeed in the final stage of its implementation: 1. Assessment of the value of profit growth. 2. Features of positioning the hotel/restaurant service/product on the target consumer market. 3. Increase in market share and sales volume. 4. Development of new segments of the consumer market and entry into new markets. 5. Marketing pricing. The methods for analyzing the adaptive marketing strategy of enterprises and the latest trends in the development of the hotel and restaurant business on a marketing basis are determined. It is proven that the implementation of a comprehensive adaptive marketing strategy for the hotel and restaurant business, focused on the consumer in the system of increasing customer focus, leads to long-term cooperation with the consumer through the offer of innovative services/products, additional services, competitive prices with high-quality 100% service. Keywords: marketing, adaptive marketing strategy, hotel and restaurant business, marketing tools, competitive advantages, hotel and restaurant service/product, marketing management system.

Hotels are one of the fastest-growing sectors in the tourism industry, and sentiment analysis plays a vital role in improving business performance and supporting sustainable practices. This paper proposes a novel framework combining topic mining and aspect-based sentiment analysis to examine 29,334 hotel reviews in Henan province in China, with the aim of informing strategies for sustainable hotel development. Our results reveal six key attributes of customer concern, particularly emphasizing family experiences, which reflect Henan’s appeal as a family tourism destination. Additionally, we uncover sentiment quadruples, including categories, aspect terms, opinion terms, and polarities, thus enabling a dual-dimensional evaluation of factors influencing customer satisfaction. The results reveal that service mainly influences overall category-level satisfaction, while bed, front desk, and breakfast primarily drive aspect-level satisfaction. This study provides valuable insights into customer feedback, offering empirical support for optimizing services and guiding the sustainable strategic development of regional hotels.

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of the research is to identify the features of the development of the hotel business in the mountainous zone of Adjara and the factors facilitating and hindering its further development; to determine the strategic directions of the hotel business in Upper Adjara in order to achieve sustainable development of the tourism industry. Methodology: The research employed a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies to explore the development of hotel-type accommodation facilities in the mountainous zone of Adjara. Surveys, interviews with hotel managers and owners, and field observations were conducted to assess challenges, opportunities, infrastructure conditions, and investment potential, while secondary data analysis examined tourism policies and economic trends. Results: The survey results indicate that the hotel and guest house sector in the mountainous zone of Adjara plays a crucial role in local employment, with most small hotels employing between 3 to 10 people and guest houses increasingly relying on hired labor. However, a major challenge in the sector is the shortage of qualified personnel, as 72% of respondents struggle to find skilled employees, while interest in staff training programs remains low. Conclusions: This study confirms that the development of hotel-type accommodation facilities in the mountainous zone of Adjara is influenced by natural potential, infrastructure, and increasing tourist inflows. The role of family hotels is particularly significant, as they contribute to regional tourism by integrating local traditions and resources, though territorial imbalances in hotel distribution persist. Limitations: One limitation of this study is the lack of long-term data on the sustainability of hotel businesses in the mountainous regions, as well as the limited focus on the economic impact of branded hotels on local businesses. Contributions: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the trends and challenges in developing hotel-type accommodation in the mountainous zone of Adjara, highlighting its economic, social, and environmental significance. It offers valuable insights into the role of family hotels in regional tourism and the impact of state policies on business sustainability.
