Study on import trade effect of six economic corridors on provinces along China

The construction of the six economic corridors is an important pillar of the "Belt and Road" initiative. This paper collected the panel data of 30 provinces and cities in China from 2005 to 2022, and constructed a differential differential model to study the trade effect of the construction of the six economic corridors on the imports of provinces along the country. The results show that: on the whole, the construction of the six economic corridors has indeed played a role in promoting the import scale of the provinces along the line; Secondly, there is regional heterogeneity in this effect. The import driving effect of the economic corridor mainly depends on the trade promotion effect of the economic corridor on the central region, followed by the eastern region, and the contribution degree of the western region is the lowest. In addition, the level of regional economic development, industrial structure, and scientific research are important factors to promote the development of regional trade in China. In the future, the in-depth construction of high-level development of economic corridors needs to pay more attention to these factors to promote coordinated development. At the end of this paper, countermeasures are proposed to speed up the construction of economic corridors, which is also conducive to the hierarchical and focused work to promote China's trade promotion, so that provinces along the country can use the "six economic corridors" to achieve a new pattern of opening u.

Problems of Development of East-West International Transport Corridors in the Caspian Region

The article is dedicated to the problems of development of international transport corridors in Caspian region as a part of transcontinental logistic routes between east and west of Eurasia (primarily, between China and European market for Chinese goods). During last thirty years there has been a wide discussion of such corridors as an alternative for the routes via Russia. Since 2022, one can witness the activization of such process. The aim of the research in this context is to specify the current situation in development of such transport corridors in Caspian region as well as the influence of Silk Road Economic Belt realization. It can be concluded that, despite of all discussions, constructing the cross-Caspian logistic infrastructure proves to be very expensive, so that the coastal nations reckon on participation of external players such as EU, US and primarily China. However, infrastructure development still remains to be their ‘inside job’ while the biggest results one can witness is the case of Kazakhstan. Notwithstanding Kazakhstan’s efforts the busiest routes still lay to the north of Caspian region and go via Russia. Thus, connecting logistics systems of eastern and western coasts of the Caspian Sea remains a difficult task that cannot be completed without participation of Russia.

Applicability of HEC-RAS and Geospatial Tools for Inland Waterways Transportation Corridor: Case Study of Ganga Basin, Bihar, India

Bihar has the largest networks of Rivers and drainage systems and most of them are perineal. Previously, north Bihar had active inland waterways transportation networks but these days the networks are not in use. Due to rapid urbanization and a hike in fuel prices, the transportation cost within the state has risen in the past few years. The demand for cheaper transportation systems is highly needed in these areas for goods transportation. Recently, the inland waterways authority of India has started a new shipping service in River Ganga only but a few more river networks can also be used for these kinds of activities. A study was conducted to find the inland waterways' potential for the development of a state river transportation corridor for North Bihar India. Various mathematical modeling tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS along with geospatial tools have been used for this study. The result obtained by the study indicates that the six more rivers of the states have the potential for inland waterways transportation along with suitable vessels for transportation. The methodology developed in the study is suitable for the development of waterways transportation corridors at various places. The study also emphasizes selecting the proper places for making the jetties which may be helpful for various activities such as disaster management, industrial fright services, logistic supply, etc.

Factors Influencing Water Resource Levels under the Water Resource Carrying Capacity Framework: A Dynamic Qualitative Comparative Analysis Based on Provincial Panel Data

Most existing evaluation frameworks for water resource carrying capacity (WRCC) neglect the interdependencies between subsystems. To fill this gap, we introduce a dynamic qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) model to evaluate WRCC and apply it to a vital economic development corridor, the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB). Ecological, social, and economic subsystems are defined as condition subsystems, while the water resource subsystem is defined as the outcome subsystem. The entropy weight method is used to calculate and calibrate the comprehensive score of each subsystem. By analyzing the necessity of a single condition subsystem and the sufficiency of condition subsystem configuration via a dynamic QCA, we qualitatively analyze the impact extent and pathways of the ecological, social, and economic subsystems on the water resource subsystem within the WRCC framework. The results reveal generally stable water resource levels despite regional variances, thereby pinpointing the influence pathways, including ecological–social and ecological–economic configurations. The 2011–2015 period saw poor stability, which subsequently improved until 2019 before declining in 2020 in the YREB. The middle-reach urban cluster showed the highest stability, which was less impacted by condition subsystems. These findings could enable provinces and municipalities to tailor policies and enhance subsystem levels for better water resource management.

The article discusses the concept, purposes of creation and general characteristics of international transport corridors. The authors provide a brief description of the prerequisites for the formation and development of international transport corridors, and also consider the contribution of international transport corridors to the development of the national economy of the state-participants of the transport system from the point of view of micro- and macroeconomic indicators. The purpose of the article is to analyze the role of international transport corridors in the process of integration of Azerbaijan into the world economy. The object of the research is logistic principles of international transport corridors in the process of integration of Azerbaijan into the world economy. The methods used in the research. Here are used methods of categorical analysis and synthesis to study theoretical approaches to determining the essence and features of omnichannel loyalty programs. In addition, the description of the transformation of loyalty programs required the use of the observation method to display market trends and vectors of their influence on the specified process, as well as specification - to highlight and characterize relevant digital tools. Research hypothesis. The construction of new international transport corridors in the process of integration of Azerbaijan into the world economy will be a guarantee of the development of this region and its economic opportunities. Presenting main material. The conclusions contained in this article on the importance of international transport corridors for the economy of the state can be used in the future to assess the need to develop transport and logistics infrastructure within the framework of already functioning international transport corridors, to determine new strategic directions for the formation of new international transport corridors in the context of changing macroeconomic prerequisites and redistribution of traffic flows, including due to the introduction of sanctions, as well as to assess the prospects for the formation of new transport corridors. The originality and practical significance of the research. International transport corridors (ITC) in the context of global integration processes and the global division of labor are one of the most important factors in the development of the world economy. International transport corridors ensure the creation and functioning of stable transport links between various foreign participants in international economic relations. Conclusions and perspectives of further research. Of course, it is difficult to deny the importance of international transport corridors for the development of the global economy. At the same time, scientific interest arises in relation to what prerequisites lie behind the formation of international transport corridors and what contribution they make to the development of national economies of states through whose territory the national part of international transport corridors passes.

Predicting snow structures relevant to reindeer husbandry

ABSTRACT Snow conditions in the High North are an important control on wintertime forage availability for reindeer, and under climate change, they are changing rapidly. In the European Arctic, this has the potential to disrupt traditional reindeer herding practices, reindeer health, and local culture (including that of Indigenous communities like the Sámi). At the same time, Norwegian coastal cities are competing to act as multi-model transportation hubs as sea-ice retreat creates expectations for increased marine accessibility. An “Arctic Railway” connecting Rovaniemi to Kirkenes has been proposed to support these port developments, but this route passes through rangelands managed by Sámi and local herding communities. This study develops an assessment of past and future snow characteristics relevant to reindeer health to provide a context for understanding the impacts of this infrastructure development. Climate model and detailed snowpack simulations were performed for 1950 to 2100 along the proposed route. Results show that deep snow becomes less frequent and spring thaw advances, favorable to reindeer. However, icy snow conditions become more frequent, potentially forcing herds from tundra and farmland to forested areas. This suggests policy alternatives that focus on the development and maintenance of migration corridors to allow appropriate movement of reindeer herds.

This scheme allows shippers to avoid paying a transit tariff, since the level of transit tariffs is higher than the level of export-import tariffs.

Abstract This article examines the development of ‘Forest City’ in the Iskandar Malaysia development Corridor within the broader context of China’s international expansion, focusing on Forest City portrayal as a model of sustainability. Despite being promoted as ‘eco-cities’ and ‘green cities’, these mega-projects often fall short of these ideals, revealing a significant gap between their marketed image and their actual environmental practices (Ouis 2011). Through the lens of Practice Theory enriched by the developmental state model, this study analyses the alignment between the promotional rhetoric of Chinese-backed green city projects and their real-world execution. Practice Theory offers a valuable tool for identifying inconsistencies between stated commitments to sustainability and the tangible outcomes observed in Chinese-finance development projects in Southeast Asia. The developmental state model helps to understand the practices that are translated, transplanted, and embedded by Chinese developers across borders. This analytical framework is critical as it sheds light on the underlying dynamics of ‘global China’ initiatives, which have gained increased global attention. Such scrutiny is particularly pertinent in highlighting the contrast between the marketed sustainability of these cities and the principles of genuine sustainable development. This critique provides a deeper understanding of the environmental implications of China’s overseas investments. Based on this analysis, the overarching research question is: why do Chinese-backed green city projects, such as Forest City in Iskandar Malaysia, frequently exhibit discrepancies between their promoted environmental sustainability and the actual environmental outcomes?

Potential for the Development of International Transport Corridors in Current Market Conditions

This research is devoted to the prospects for the development of international transport corridors (ITC) through the prism of the dynamics of market forces in the transport industry and world trade. International logistics is currently undergoing a global transformation, and therefore the effective use by Russia of its transport potential is still the most urgent and practical task. In this regard, this research is focused on internal and external factors that influence the realization of this potential. The research presents the factors that contributed in retrospect for more than 10 years to the dynamic development of freight transportation through the ITC “East – West”. Additionally, the impact of exogenous factors such as epidemiological restrictions on a global scale and economic sanctions against Russia on the logistics of container transportation in recent years is considered in more detail. On the basis of a retrospective analysis of the development of cargo transportation through the ITC “East – West” generalized conditions are formulated that allow to assess the potential for the development of transport cargo fl ows on other key ITC. An analysis of the current dynamics and problems of the development of transportation along the corridors East – West, Northern Sea Route and North-South is carried out. Further prospects for their increase from the point of view of transport marketing is provided. Among the conclusions, the importance of developing and expanding the infrastructure of the ITC “East – West”, as well as proposals for the intensifi cation of cargo transportation through other ITC, is highlighted.

Prospects for further development of logistics and trade in Central Asian Countries

This paper examines the conditions of foreign trade of the Central Asian countries and their impact on economic growth. Currently, the transport corridors of Central Asia are at the peak of their demand. The current positive changes and achievements of the region are considered. Attention is drawn to the geopolitical trends that create conditions for the development of alternative transport corridors and infrastructure projects. Special attention is paid to improving transport connectivity. It is proposed to develop transit and transport potential and increase the production of finished products. The comprehensive analysis carried out in this work allows us to take a broader look at the potential of the region and propose measures for its full development. Due to the growing role of Central Asia in the international arena, this paper also examines the impact of foreign policy on the development of the region’s economy. The strategic location of Central Asia between China, Russia, Iran and other countries makes the region an important partner in international trade and transport links. The paper analyses the current positive developments in the region, such as the creation of new transport corridors, the development of logistics infrastructure and the strengthening of trade relations with other countries. Special attention is paid to projects for the development of regional integration and economic unions, which contribute to improving competitiveness and economic stability in Central Asia.

From the state’s development promise to the uncertain lives of farmers in eastern Thailand

This research paper aims to examine the state's development promise in relation to the Eastern Economic Corridor development (EEC) project and its impact on people's livelihoods. The study utilized a qualitative approach and ethnographic research to collect data on the operation of the EEC project and its impact on people's livelihoods. The key informants, who were actively involved in the movement for farm safety, were 25 farmers from a farmers network in Kabinburi district, Prachinburi province, and Phanom Sarakham district, Chachoengsao province. The study found that the EEC project has been a crucial development undertaking in Thailand since 2017. The Thai state has promised that the EEC project will provide a better future for the people, stating that the operation of the project will focus on investing in infrastructure, providing investment privileges, eliminating investment barriers, and establishing a centralized authority. However, the local people's experiences with the EEC project demonstrate the formation of unequal power relations that have led to an uneven distribution of the project's benefits. Although local communities are hopeful that the EEC project will provide access to new markets, they still fear the uncertainty of their lives due to various state mechanisms established in the project, which prevent them from participating in the local decision-making process. Some local farmers have experienced an expansion of factories and waste disposal plants, causing fear of pollution on farms, and other non-agricultural land use activities in the EEC backyard, or peripheral areas of the EEC project.

Development of the logistics potential of railway transport

An analysis of freight transport statistics over the past 10 years shows sensitivity to political influences from almost all modes of transport to one degree or another, including rail. At the same time, the participation of rail transport in the total volume of freight traffic in recent years can be estimated at 17–18 %. In recent years, there has been a trend towards an increase in the railway transportation sector in the total volume of freight. In order to ensure the technological sovereignty of the Russian Federation, it is necessary to take a number of technical, organizational and managerial decisions to offset the negative consequences. The development of domestic logistics potential involves the development of international transport corridors that will connect the macroeconomic regions of the north, south, east and west. This will certainly have an impact on the global economy as a whole. Therefore, the main task is to develop effective interaction between participants in transport processes both on related modes of transport, as well as the largest representatives of the operator and logistics business, cargo-forming enterprises. In this regard, the current situation has been analyzed using a tool to identify competitive advantages in the domestic market and in conditions of global competition.

Towards more sustainable and inclusive development corridors in Africa

Abstract Development corridors are linear programmes of infrastructure and agriculture aiming to facilitate rapid socio-economic development. In Africa, they are a major development activity, with 88 underway or planned corridors. Drawing from extensive literature and insights gleaned from a 4 year research programme, this review scrutinizes the impacts of development corridors on people, wildlife and ecosystems in Kenya and Tanzania, proposing solutions to achieve better outcomes. The overarching goal was to discern the principle challenges emerging from the practical execution of the prevailing corridor model. The holistic approach taken, assessing the development corridors paradigm through an integrated ecological, social, and economic lens, provides novel insights that have not been possible using more traditional—siloed—research approaches. Eight key challenge areas are identified: impact assessments processes; coherence across international, national and local planning; governance; inclusivity; equality; impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services; incorporation of future climate risks; and integrated water resource management. Poorly planned and implemented corridors detrimentally impact livelihoods and ecosystems. They lack a sustainable development vision, detailed social, environmental or climate risk assessments, and develop incrementally in policy and corporate spaces. There is also often a disconnect between investors and recipient governments, with some investors funding what governments request without applying internationally-recognised safeguards, and governments lacking capacity and resources to enforce regulations. We make recommendations for addressing these challenge areas. These aim to enhance impact assessment efficacy; integrate local perspectives into effective and inclusive corridor planning; overcome siloed project development and implementation; anticipate future development projections; and prioritise landscape preservation for enhanced ecosystem services and climate resilience.

Temple Corridors in Indian Cities: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Temples and heritage corridors have successfully contributed to the redesign of Indian cities, yielding positive outcomes in terms of cultural heritage, tourism, and business. Such projects aid in revitalizing historical districts, preserving traditions, and fostering greater public concern for urban environments. Nevertheless, several challenges persist, such as the risk of commercialization, altering the authentic image or identity of places, social inequality during gentrification, and balancing modernization with conservation. Despite these challenges, these initiatives highlight cultural identity, which should be safeguarded through careful planning to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth. A critical question remains: has the transformation of Indian cities diminished their aesthetic and cultural value? Temple corridors in Indian cities blend Indian culture with contemporary architectural and planning techniques. This paper reviews the development, significance, and evolution of temple corridors within the urban Indian context, focusing on their roles as cultural institutions, social amenities, and tourist attractions.

Economic framework for green shipping corridors: Evaluating cost-effective transition from fossil fuels towards hydrogen

Global warming's major cause is the emission of greenhouse-effect gases (GHG), especially carbon dioxide (CO2) whose main source is the combustion of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels serve as the primary energy source in many industries, including shipping, which is the focus of this study. One of the measures proposed to tackle GHG emissions is the development of green shipping corridors - carbon-free shipping routes that require the transition to alternative fuels, which are gaining competitiveness. One of the reasons for that is carbon pricing, which taxes CO2 emissions. However, the lack of consensus on the most cost-advantageous alternative fuel in the long run results in the delay of the implementation of green shipping corridors.To make it more accessible for stakeholders to conduct an economic analysis of the various options, a framework to determine and minimize the costs of transitioning from fossil fuels to any alternative fuel is proposed, over the period of one voyage, considering the lost opportunity cost, the deployment cost of bunkering vessels at the necessary call ports, the cost of converting the vessel, the car-bon emissions tax cost, and the fuel cost. This will allow stakeholders to choose the most economical alternative fuel, accelerating the development of green shipping corridor initiatives. To validate the effectiveness of the framework, it was applied in a case study involving a shipowner seeking to transition from heavy fuel oil (HFO) to Ammonia, Hydrogen, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), or Methanol. This study faced limitations due to the unknown costs of installing bunkering vessels for Ammonia and Hydrogen. However, it evaluates the cost-effectiveness of alternative fuels, providing insights into their short-term economic viability. The results showed that Hydrogen is the most cost-advantageous fuel until a deployment cost per bunkering vessel of 1,990,285$ for a sailing speed of 22 knots and 2,190,171$ for a sailing speed of 18 knots is reached, after which LNG becomes the most economical option regardless of variations in the carbon tax. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis was conducted to determine the effects of variations in parameters, such as carbon tax, fuel prices and vessel conversion costs in the total cost of each fuel option. Results highlighted that even though HFO remains the most economical fuel option, even when considering a high increase in carbon tax, the cost gap between HFO and alternative fuels narrows significantly with the increase in carbon tax. Furthermore, the sailing speed impacts the fuels’ competitiveness, as the cost difference between HFO and alternative fuels decreases at higher speeds.

Significant Demographic Factors Fuelling Housing Deficit in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria

This article assesses the significant demographic factors fuelling housing deficit in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. Using a mixed method approach as survey design coupled with a combination of purposive and stratified sampling technique, 1254 households were selected for administration of questionnaires during data collection process. Questionnaires, interviews were the major instruments of data collection from seven residential development corridors (RDCs) in Ado-Ekiti. Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) supported secondary data. Findings revealed that high population growth, rapid urbanisation and migration increased housing deficit in the study area. Hence, this study observed an increase in live births (162, 901) than deaths (45, 046) in Ado-Ekiti. Also, findings revealed an increase in building concentration (57.7%) from 2000-date. Similarly, this study observed an increase in challenges such as urban sprawl and infrastructure deficiency (L-INFRA) encountered as a result of rapid urbanisation. The study noted an increase in quantitative housing deficit (223,086) in 2023. Thus, a quantitative housing deficit of 334,554 housing units would arise in 2034.Furthermore, sharing of dwellings with other households (SHAD), a resultant effect of high migration trends constituted 43.4 percent across the RDCs in Ado-Ekiti. Also, improved infrastructural facilities (33.8%) was the modal reason for staying (RESTAY) in the study area. Using Paired T-test, this study further validated that a perfect positive relationship (1.000) exists between population growth and housing deficit in Ado-Ekiti. Therefore, this study recommends adoption of effective Family Planning Methods (FPMs), regional distribution of infrastructural facilities and conversion of under-utilised lands for an efficient housing delivery in Ado-Ekiti.

Investment attractiveness of the Russian Arctic through the prism of international cooperation and development of transport corridors

The Russian Arctic has numerous resources, infrastructure facilities that are important for international relations, and therefore is potentially very attractive to investors. Nevertheless, there are a number of objective reasons hindering its development, which require international cooperation, investment and updating of the regulatory framework for the process of foreign investments inflow into the region, with an emphasis on its specifics. The purpose of the article is to study the attractiveness and investment potential of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (AZRF) in the new geopolitical realities, to identify the most promising areas of foreign investments. It is concluded that the Arctic can offer resources and opportunities for development and cooperation. It is open for investment, and the Russian government is trying to implement as many projects as possible, including those in which the BRICS countries participate, that will contribute to the development of this region. One of the key areas of foreign investments application is the zone of development of the transport and logistics potential of the Arctic through transport corridors, which will simultaneously lead to infrastructural connectivity of the entire Eurasian continent and will promote cooperation in the Eurasian arena of the CIS countries.

Customs and logistics infrastructure in the system of international cooperation

The article considers the logistical elements of the infrastructure under which the transportation of goods of domestic orientation and international level is carried out. Modern logistics chains are changing their course, and Russia is turning its attention to the development of transport corridors of the eastern direction.

DEVELOPMENT OF ENERGY TRANSPORT CORRIDORS IN THE MIDDLE EAST AS THE BASIS OF REGIONAL CONFLICTS

Purpose of the study. The article examines the problems of vulnerability of energy transport corridors in the Middle East and their impact on the global economy. The role of geopolitical actors such as the USA, Russia and China on the development of relations between the countries of the Middle East and the resulting tension in the region due to their rivalry are analyzed. A brief overview of the reasons why a number of countries in the region have problems when planning and creating new transport and energy corridors connecting the region with other countries of the world is given. It is concluded that the development of energy transport corridors in the Middle East serves as both a source of development and a catalyst for regional conflicts. Understanding this relationship between energy strategies, geopolitics and conflict is an important aspect for developing sustainable and peaceful solutions in this strategically important region.

Hydrogen corridors in Europe: strategies and countries involved

The European Union and other countries worldwide have identified fossil-free hydrogen as a key resource for implementing the transition to a low-carbon economy. The European Commission, which had already emphasised the importance of the hydrogen economy within the Green Deal Industrial Plan, has recently quantified the import target for 2030, 2024, and 2050. Unlike oil and gas reserves, renewable energy and green hydrogen have numerous potential producing or supplying countries; therefore, identifying trading partners requires several research and policy initiatives and the adoption of both technoeconomic and political criteria. The purpose of this study is to investigate the prospect for the development of future hydrogen energy corridors and how European states are organising their political and transport strategies. These strategies design international transport and logistics chains that include the entire hydrogen value chain (production, export, storage and consumption). A new transport and logistics structure is expected for the energy distribution of this vector. Networks and transport nodes will be substantially involved in anticipation of an increase in demand for this type of energy carrier, both in the vicinity of ports, due to industrial demand, and within ports, for the transport and storage of this resource, assuming the increasingly central role of energy hubs and making their role more and more complex, going beyond the classic connotation of intermodal nodes.
