Visual Communication Design as a Media for Preaching Punk Community Hijrah in the Digital Era

This research examines using visual communication design as a medium for da’wah which is analyzed using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis on the contents of the punk hijrah community’s Instagram account @punkhijrah. Entering the development of communication and information technology in the current digital era, visual communication design has become an important platform for communicating da’wah messages visually. @punkhijrah is one of the many Instagram accounts that uses visual communication design to publish creative and innovative content. Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis method is used to examine visual communication design in the form of symbols and meanings contained in posts on the Instagram account @punkhijrah. This research was conducted to find out and interpret the meaning of the visual communication design used by @punkhijrah as a propaganda medium with a qualitative approach, then analyzed using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis method to examine signs as a whole, both regarding content and meaning, seen from three elements, namely typography, illustration, and color. The results of this research show that the visual communication design as a da’wah medium used by @punkhijrah shows that the meaning and understanding of the signs in the content has meaning and an appeal to the public or readers to continuously Istiqomah do good, become a better person, more becomes more vocal about current religious issues, and stay away from evil.

IMPLEMENTASI PELATIHAN MICROSOFT POWERPOINT SEBAGAI UPAYA PENINGKATAN KUALITAS PRESENTASI DI SMKN 1 ARJASA

The advancement of technology, especially through the use of applications like Microsoft PowerPoint, has transformed the way educational materials are delivered, facilitating the development of communication and visual design skills. PowerPoint is a software designed specifically to present multimedia programs in an engaging way. Using PowerPoint presentations is a method to introduce or explain various topics that are summarized and packaged into several slides, which may include text, images, graphics, sound, and video. The use of PowerPoint not only helps students prepare presentations but also enhances communication and visual design skills, making the presentation process more engaging and effective in conveying information. In the environment of SMK Negeri 1 Arjasa, PowerPoint is a crucial tool in improving students' skills that are relevant to the workforce and enriching the learning process in the digital era. Furthermore, the use of PowerPoint also supports the visualization of material, enabling the presentation of information in a visually appealing way, which captures the audience’s attention and maintains students' interest during learning.

A Systematic Review of Communication-Focused Dementia Interventions for Indigenous Communities.

Dementia is a significant challenge for many Indigenous peoples who face inequities in risk factors, prevalence, progression rates, and access to quality healthcare. Culturally relevant interventions are needed across the care pathway, however, little evidence exists to guide culturally relevant communication support. This systematic review aims to understand dementia communication interventions developed for Indigenous populations and explore factors relating to their effectiveness. A systematic search of databases, repositories, and search engines was conducted. We took a comprehensive approach to communication, considering the communication skills and abilities of people with dementia, their communication partners, healthcare providers, and community-level information sharing. Studies were required to evaluate an intervention targeting communicative skills, communicative ability, or health communication and include a cultural focus on one or more Indigenous communities. Quality was appraised using an adapted Well Living House Quality Appraisal Tool. Six studies met inclusion criteria, with most studies (n = 5) conducted from 2019 onwards. No studies evaluated an intervention targeting communicative skills and abilities for people with dementia, their communication partners, or healthcare providers. All included studies evaluated a health communication intervention. Interventions utilised various resources, including storybooks, videos, flipcharts, posters, handouts, worksheets, fact sheets, and training modules, tailored towards Indigenous communities across Canada, the United States, and Australia. Content about dementia and dementia management varied across interventions. Analysis identified key benefits of the interventions and three factors influencing their effectiveness: (1) representation of Indigenous people, cultures, and languages in resources, (2) methods and settings for knowledge sharing, and (3) communication, connection, and collaboration. While content within resources and methods for information sharing should be tailored to local communities, common elements may support health communication developments across Indigenous contexts. Further research is needed to develop interventions specifically targeting communication skills and conduct methodologically strong evaluations.

Aplicação do modelo de instrução entre pares em ambulatório de Infectologia: um relato de experiência

ABSTRACT | INTRODUCTION: The Peer-assisted learning (PAL) consists in an active learning method between students of different or the same period, supervised by a tutor senior. Literature is quite rich regarding the advantages related to the use of IP, especially in health courses, contributing mainly to the improvement of teaching skills and communication. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to relate a successful experience of application of a peer teaching model in an infectology outpatient facility. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Students of 2nd to 12th period of a Medical Public School take part in an infectology outpatient facility organized according to peer teaching. In this internship, the students learn how to solve practical problems in addition to searching for medical knowledge in an independent way. First, the student joins as a student-learner, taking part in medical checkups and discussions and, as they acquire knowledge and practice, they become a student-teacher, now responsible for another student-learner, finishing a step of the active learning process. By the end, the interns acquire new competences and skills, becoming more independent in relation to a human medical checkup. DISCUSSION: This model of active learning was able to promote the development of social skills, communication and student independence, in addition to significantly improving learning and retention of content. The students were stimulated by their pairs to search for knowledge, in the case of student-teachers, to remember the basic content and for the student-learners to learn more about clinic and social questions involved in the process. CONCLUSION: It was observed that the peer teaching is a methodology that promotes knowledge between students and the tutor senior, through the direct insertion of the students, not just in the practice, but in a welcoming and multidisciplinary environment.

Continuity in social communication development among school-aged siblings of autistic children.

Prospective studies of later born siblings of autistic individuals often focus on predicting autism diagnosis. Studies concentrating on siblings who do not develop autism have found subclinical atypicalities in some children as early as the first year of life. However, when followed to school-age, the continuity of these findings has been mixed. We tracked nonautistic siblings (n = 151 higher familial likelihood of autism, n = 115 lower likelihood) longitudinally from infancy to 6-16 years of age when participants completed a battery of social communication measures (parent report and direct observation/administration). Using latent profile analysis, we derived groupings based on patterns of performance across measures. Three groups were identified: Class 1 (45.5%), Class 2 (45.2%), and Class 3 (9.3%)-characterized by higher, intermediate, and lower school-age social communication abilities, respectively. We then examined the performance of these classes on independent measures of pragmatic language, reciprocal social interaction, and cognition. Class 3 demonstrated social communication differences that were most evident with novel interactive partners (e.g., examiners) and scored lower on IQ and academic achievement measures, indicating that social communication differences captured by the latent profile analysis were part of a broader pattern of developmental differences. Using data collected in the first 3 years of life, we found that the school-age classes began showing differences by 12-18 months of age-evidence of continuity between early behavior and later development. Findings suggest that when early childhood challenges are observed in siblings of autistic children, even those not meeting criteria for autism, they should be monitored over time and additional support offered as needed. Parental concerns about the long‐term impacts of Covid‐19 pandemic restrictions on the health, education and development of their children with Down syndrome: A qualitative analysis

Abstract The Covid‐19 pandemic significantly limited access to vital services and resources required to support the health, education and development of neurodivergent children, especially children with Down syndrome (DS). We undertook qualitative analysis of responses to open‐ended questions exploring caregiver (n = 194) concerns about the impact of the pandemic restrictions on their children with DS. Results showed that parents were concerned about their child's mental and physical health during lockdowns, and reported that children found the social isolation and lack of routine particularly challenging. Restrictions also raised ongoing longer‐term concerns. Parents reported that limited social contact affected the development of children's communication and social skills, and fewer group activities impacted weight and motor development. School closures affected academic progress and development of the skills required to navigate a classroom environment. Restricted access to healthcare services delayed diagnosis and treatment, and cancelled therapies disrupted speech and motor development; ongoing disruptions continued to limit opportunities to mitigate concerns. The interlinking impacts of multiple restrictions compounded the challenges, highlighting the importance of accessible social resources and system‐wide support for the health and development of neurodivergent children. We urge practitioners, researchers and policymakers to collaborate with families to mitigate the long‐term implications of the pandemic for children with DS.

Engagement by New South Wales Marine Estate Users with and Evaluation of Communication Approaches to Strengthen Biosecurity Practices.

Marine environments are susceptible to the impact of human boating activities that facilitate incursions of marine pests and diseases, including invasive alien species (IAS). Movement and maintenance of recreational boats is largely unregulated, and if boats are improperly maintained, movement of IAS on these unmaintained boats can impact livelihoods and food security. This project evaluated the impact of communication and engagement interventions implemented within the New South Wales marine estate that aimed at strengthening biosecurity practices of small to medium permanently moored boat owners/managers. A mixed method approach using a cross-sectional survey and interviews was used to evaluate exposure to and impact of the communication and engagement strategies, including Facebook images and videos on biosecurity practices in the NSW marine estate. Participants expressed a desire for information about marine pests and diseases via electronic newsletters (43.3%, n = 58) and of the survey participants who used Facebook, the majority (90.2%, n = 119) had not seen the communication interventions. Interview participants identified some infrastructural barriers to keeping their boats clear of biofouling despite a desire to do so. Overall, most participants showed awareness of and wanted to help protect waterway health, which supports ongoing efforts by New South Wales Department of Primary Industries Agriculture and Biosecurity Aquatic unit to improve biosecurity practices of all marine estate stakeholders and informs future development of aquatic biosecurity communication and engagement strategies.

The article examines the features of building an internal communication system in modern organizations. The main types, channels, and tools of internal corporate communications are analyzed. Special attention is paid to vertical, horizontal, and diagonal communications, as well as formal and informal communication within the organization. The stages of internal communications development depending on the organization’s growth stage are considered. Modern tools for developing internal communications are described, including brand media, corporate publications, events, and project management systems. The role of digital technologies and specialized software solutions in optimizing communication processes is investigated. The advantages and limitations of various communication channels, including ERP systems, intranet portals, and corporate messengers, are analyzed. The main mistakes in building an internal communications system are identified, and methods for evaluating their effectiveness are proposed. Practical recommendations for effective corporate communications management are presented, aimed at increasing the transparency of information flows, strengthening corporate culture, and improving employee engagement. Special attention is paid to the role of the communication system in human capital development and achieving strategic organizational goals. Modern approaches to organizing remote work and hybrid interaction formats are examined, along with their impact on the transformation of internal corporate communications. Methods for measuring the effectiveness of communication processes and their influence on key organizational performance indicators are analyzed.

A study on the Configuration path of the communication effect of urban short videos: fsQCA analysis based on socio-technical systems theory

Urban short videos have become an important vehicle to promote city branding, cultural communication and economic development. This study adopts the fuzzy set stereotyping comparative analysis (fsQCA) method to analyse 120 sample cases based on the Jieyin platform by focusing on two dimensions, namely, social and technological, and refining antecedent variables such as content theme, emotional tendency, topic guidance, title length, content duration and presentation form. It is found that there are three configurations of high communication effect of urban short videos, namely, socially dominant, technologically dominant and socio-technical synergistic. Positive emotional tendency and medium content length are indispensable conditions for efficient communication of urban short videos, and at the same time, based on the precise grasp of the communication subject on the tone of the content, we should also flexibly adopt differentiated strategies, and maximise the communication effect of urban short videos through the coupling of multi-dimensional elements. The effect is maximised through the coupling and linkage of multi-dimensional elements.

This article focuses on the justification for using collaborative learning to help shape the value-based worldview of bachelor’s students in a higher military educational institution. The authors view the formation of a bachelor’s value-based worldview in such an institution as a comprehensive and systematically organized collection of beliefs, representations, and symbolic images. This collection promotes a unified perception of reality and fosters an understanding of one’s role and purpose within it. The authors identify the following factors in the formation of bachelors’ value worldview in a higher military educational institution: socio-political, educational and instructional, professional-military, psychological-pedagogical, and information and communication factors. The authors draw attention to the following methods of conducting classes in the context of collaborative learning: visualisations, discussions, practical exercises and round-table seminars following the independent study of materials from various sources. The most effective forms of collaborative learning for shaping the worldview of Bachelor’s degree students at a higher military educational institution are internships in units, discussions, competitions, themed evenings, training sessions, meetings with experienced officers, practical group exercises and group research projects. The authors provide recommendations for the use of collaborative learning in forming the value worldview of Bachelor’s degree students at a higher military educational institution. These recommendations include using methods of direct and indirect influence, and using information and communication technologies during classes. In particular, video conferencing via the Zoom application can be used to involve historians, combatants, and other specialists in explaining the material remotely. The material should be proven and clarified during the teaching process. The advantages of this approach include the possibility of more thorough assimilation and a deeper understanding of educational material, the development of professional communication and interaction skills, increased motivation and interest in learning, the stimulation of critical thinking and creativity, the formation of competencies necessary for teamwork in professional activities, and the development of skills in managing subordinate personnel. Parental Attitudes and Children’s Language Development: A Cross-Cultural Evaluation of the Early Parenting Attitudes Questionnaire

The Early Parenting Attitudes Questionnaire (EPAQ; Hembacher & Frank, 2020) was developed in the U.S. to assess parents’ beliefs, knowledge, ideas, and attitudes about parenting. Given the diversity of parenting practices among cultures, it is essential to establish the cross-cultural validity of the instruments used to measure them. For this reason, this study aims at (1) assessing the psychometric properties of the EPAQ in Norway, Russia, and the U.K. and (2) investigating whether the underlying structure aligns with the original one observed in the U.S. Moreover, we aimed at (3) exploring the potential relationship between parental attitudes and children’s language development using MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories (CDI; Fenson et al. 2007). Our sample consisted of 3333 parents of children between 0 and 156 months from Norway (n = 1060), the U.K. (n = 656) , and Russia (n = 1617). Analyses revealed a different factor solution in the countries of our sample, as compared to the original three-factor solution found in the original American sample. Especially in Russia, the structure of parental attitudes as measured by the EPAQ differs both from the original factor solution and from the factor solution identified in Norway and the U.K. Therefore, at least in the Russian context, different culture-sensitive scales need to be developed and, generally, new items for the EPAQ should be developed for further refinement. Moreover, our analyses highlighted a significant negative association between the factor Communicative and Emotional Detachment and vocabulary scores as a function of the child’s age in Russia.

THE IMPORTANCE OF LOGISTICS COSTS IN E-COMMERCE BUSINESSES

The increase in global trade volume, driven by digitalization and changing consumer demands, has transformed the logistics sector from merely a supporting activity into a crucial element that shapes the competitive advantage of businesses and stands as a strategic cornerstone of national and international economies. Logistics encompasses processes such as transportation, warehousing, order processing, packaging, and demand forecasting, ensuring the timely, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of products. Today, with the intensification of global competition, the share of logistics activities in total costs has increased, highlighting the growing importance of strategic decisions related to the management and financing of logistics operations. In recent years, developments in communication, transportation, and information technologies, along with the widespread use of the internet, have accelerated the shift from traditional commerce to e-commerce. E-commerce offers businesses the opportunity to reach wider customer bases and respond to fluctuating demands quickly, efficiently, and at lower costs. This digital transformation has impacted not only trade processes but also logistics systems, giving rise to the concept of e-logistics. E-logistics, with its digitalized logistics processes, has evolved into a more flexible, data-driven, and customer-centric structure, becoming one of the key support components of e-commerce. This study examines the structure, business models, and practices of e-commerce enterprises in detail and explains their relationship with e-logistics. The main objective of the research is to reveal the importance of logistics costs in the e-commerce sector. As part of the study, a systematic literature review was conducted, and the findings were analyzed. The results indicate that e-commerce enterprises are transforming the logistics sector, this transformation has acquired a digital dimension, and logistics costs are a significant determining factor for profitability, competitive power, and customer satisfaction.

From ‘Mother of the House’ to ‘a Housewife’: A Narrative Inquiry of a Successful Informal English Language Learner

Informal language learning settings are important for second and foreign language development. While current literature has shown the benefits of informal context, especially for English language learning, ranging from its cognitive to social benefits, there is little inquiry into the fund of knowledge in the personal story of a successful EFL learner. Anchored in Zhang’s (2022) stages of language learning development: pre-production, early production, and communicative development, and Benson’s (2011a) and Rahman’s (2023) dimensions of informal language learning—location, formality, pedagogy, locus of control, and sociality—the study employs a narrative inquiry approach to analyze the participant journey. Findings reveal that the participant’s progression from passive observation to active communication underscores the importance of location, autonomy, and sociality in fostering linguistic competence. Her informal English learning experiences are sociocultural processes that show complex engagement among her learning agency and motivation, and communities with their varied sociocultural practices. The study contributes to the theoretical understanding of informal language learning by integrating sociality as an emerging dimension and offers practical insights for leveraging informal settings to enhance language learning.

Digitizing biodiversity: Enhancing online access to indigenous aquatic species of the nun river

Data management involves data collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation for easy communication of findings to enhance knowledge advancement and innovations for development and nation building. The fisheries sector in Nigeria and Africa as a whole need detailed electronic database of indigenous aquatic fisheries resources and this can only be made possible with proper data collection, analysis, documentation to enhance their availability, accessibility and presented in formats that are usable for easy retrieval. This research involved a field study on the species composition of Nun River and a desktop survey of fisheries reports on aquatic macro-fauna such as the fin fishes and the respective researchers and/or authors involved. The tools for database development to organize the fisheries data are HTML, CSS, for structuring and styling the web pages for front-end development, PHP for back-end development, MySQL, XAMPP and AJAX for relational database management, development environment, and data communication. By this project, the local, common and scientific names of Nun River species are uploaded on the database for a start since there are many other rivers bifurcating from the Niger River in the study area (Nigeria) which will be retrieved from the desktop survey on other researchers. These fisheries data are organized for evidence-based decision making and policy development which is key in resource management and sustainable development of the fisheries sector.

Digital Discourses on Medical Tourism: How Indonesians Consider Visiting Penang for Healthcare – A Netnographic Study on Twitter

The phenomenon of medical tourism from Indonesia to Penang, Malaysia, has continued to show a significant upward trend in recent years. In today's digital era, social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) have become active public discussion arenas, places where netizens share experiences, provide recommendations, and even consider decisions to undergo treatment abroad. This study aims to explore how digital narratives related to the practice of seeking medical treatment in Penang are formed, spread, and negotiated by Indonesians on the X platform. Using a netnography approach, this study analyzes tweets containing keywords related to treatment in Penang, revealing the dynamics of conversations in various discussions in the digital space. The results of the analysis identified four main themes that dominated the conversation: (1) ease of access and convenience of services; (2) exchange of information and recommendations between users; (3) crisis of trust in domestic health services; and (4) considerations of price, quality, and added value offered by services in Penang. These findings indicate that the decision to seek medical treatment abroad is not only influenced by medical needs or individual preferences, but also by social constructions formed in the digital space. Social media plays an important role as an e-WOM (electronic word of mouth) channel that shapes public perception and preferences for cross-country health services. This research is expected to contribute to the development of health communication and digital culture studies, as well as being a basis for thinking about managing information and health service reputation more strategically in the era of social media.

As a tool for communication, dissemination, learning, and social development between people, the main purpose of learning a foreign language is to engage in cross-cultural communication. As an ancient civilization in the world, China has a very long cultural system. For foreign learners, it is difficult to deeply understand Chinese culture. Therefore, cultural teaching should be highly valued in international Chinese education, and cultural factors should be cleverly integrated into it This article reviews the relevant literature on international Chinese education and intercultural communication competence, summarizes its concepts and framework, and points out the future development direction - integrating Chinese language teaching with Chinese literature and culture, implementing diversified teaching models to meet the new development needs at home and abroad.

A Research Study of Reducing Absenteeism through Workplace Wellness Programs in Popular Systems

Employee absenteeism is a persistent and significant issue faced by organizations across various industries. This abstract provides a concise overview of the causes, consequences, and management strategies associated with employee absenteeism. Understanding the causes of absenteeism is crucial in developing effective management approaches. Factors such as illness, personal obligations, workplace dissatisfaction, burnout, and low morale contribute to employee absences. Additionally, organizational factors, including poor work-life balance, inadequate policies, and lack of employee engagement, can further influence absenteeism rates. The consequences of absenteeism are multifaceted, impacting both the individual employee and the organization. On an individual level, frequent absences can lead to decreased job satisfaction, reduced productivity, and strained relationships with colleagues. For organizations, absenteeism results in increased costs due to lost productivity, decreased team efficiency, and potential disruptions to workflow and customer service. To mitigate the negative effects of employee absenteeism, organizations employ various management strategies. Proactive measures include fostering a positive work environment, implementing flexible work arrangements, and promoting work-life balance. Encouraging employee wellness initiatives, such as health programs and stress management workshops, can also reduce absenteeism rates. This article aims to explain the theological reasons why humans marry, as set out in the biblical narratives from Genesis to the New Testament. Through a review of literature and a theological interpretive approach, it demonstrates that marriage is an integral part of the divine mandate and a reflection of God's love, rather than merely a social or biological necessity. It highlights that marriage is rooted in creation, love, character development and participation in God's mission on earth. Furthermore, it discusses key principles for building a Christian family, including the roles of husband and wife, effective communication, financial management, and spiritual development. The article concludes that a healthy Christian marriage can only be established on the true principles of God's word.

What Apps Exist That Can Be Leveraged for Speech and Language Surveillance in Children? A Scoping Review

ABSTRACTThis scoping review aimed to identify and evaluate apps designed to screen or monitor speech, language, and communication (SLC) development in young children. Early identification and intervention are crucial for children with SLC difficulties, but traditional assessments can be time‐consuming and lack ecological validity. Technological advancements offer potential for more objective and user‐friendly assessments through apps. A systematic search of five databases identified 14 papers representing 18 studies on apps for SLC screening in children under 5 years old. Ten apps were identified, targeting various SLC domains, with four processing data internally and others requiring external software. Studies spanned eight countries, with diverse purposes and sample sizes, targeting children from newborns to 9 years old (average 3.7 years). Most studies focused on app development and usability, with limited data on reliability and validity. More research is needed to assess these apps' effectiveness as surveillance tools for SLC needs.
