Peran Kesetaraan Gender dalam Keluarga sebagai Pilar Keadilan Sosial

Gender equality in the family is an important element in building a just and sustainable society. This research aims to explore the role of women in the family and the challenges faced in realizing gender equality, especially in the context of a strong patriarchal culture in Indonesia. Using a literature study method with a qualitative descriptive approach, this research examines ten relevant scientific articles in the time span of 2020 to 2025. The results show that women not only carry out domestic roles, but also play an active role in the family economy, children's education, and household decision-making. Awareness of the importance of equitable role sharing continues to increase, supported by education and education programs. However, social reality still shows male dominance in the family, as well as gender stereotypes that prevent women from being fully empowered. Local cultures such as the Dayak community show that local wisdom can be a force in creating equality. Therefore, collaborative efforts are needed between families, communities and the state through education, women's empowerment, and alignment of understanding of religious and cultural values, so that gender equality can truly be applied fairly and equally in family life in Indonesia.

A reflective analysis of the Losarang-Indonesian Dayak community’s thinking culture in selecting a life partner

This research uses a realistic ethnographic design to examine the culture of mathematical thinking in determining the match between partners for marriage in the Losarang-Indonesian Dayak community. Data were collected through field notes, in-depth interviews, and observation. Ethnomathematics as a research genre reveals important universal elements of mathematical activity, while ethnomodelling reflects ideas and the practice of community mathematics through ethical, emic, and dialectical approaches. The findings of this research indicate that ethnomathematically, the Losarang-Indonesian Dayak community have used formal language on mathematical principles to develop a knowledge system capable of sorting, pairing, calculating, and comparing the suitability of partners based on birth. Ethnomodelling is a relevant mathematical idea and concept related to arithmetic operations, sets, relations, functions, and number comparisons. Furthermore, the implication of this research is to produce didactic situations to teach the concepts of arithmetic operations, sets, relations as well as functions, and number comparisons. The didactic situation of the customary patterns of the Losarang-Dayak community can also be presented in mathematics teaching materials based on local culture. Therefore, the successful conduction of this research can enrich the repertoire of developing school mathematics learning that focuses on local culture.

Surviving the Edges: Multidimensional Poverty among Indigenous Women Community in Remote Rural Areas in Indonesia

Sustainable development should promote equality benefits for Indigenous people communities. This study examines the chronic multidimensional poverty experienced by the indigenous women of Dayak Benawan in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. This study employs an ethnographic methodology, utilizing in-depth interviews and participatory observation to explore the multidimensional nature of poverty within the Benawan Dayak community. Data collection involves direct engagement with Dayak Benawan women, community members, and indigenous leaders (Pesirah Dayak Benawan) to capture diverse perspectives and lived experiences. The fieldwork period spanned from January 2020 to July 2022. A thematic analysis is conducted to identify key dimensions of Dayak Benawan women’s experience of poverty, including their access to sustainable livelihoods, education, healthcare services, and land ownership. This aligns with Sen’s theory on poverty among women, which argues that female poverty emerges and worsens due to gender inequality. The classifications of this inequality include gender-based mortality rates, access to basic facilities, ownership rights, employment opportunities, and education. The findings of this study reveal that poverty among Dayak Benawan women is not merely an economic issue but is deeply rooted in a complex interplay of social, cultural, and environmental factors. Key contributing dimensions include limited access to education, healthcare, land ownership, and sustainable livelihoods, exacerbated by geographic isolation and sociopolitical marginalization. This research advocates for targeted policies to promote social equity for Indigenous communities in Indonesia, including guarantees for healthcare, education, and the sustainability of livelihoods within their ancestral lands.

Prevalence, risk factors and association with gallstone disease of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease among rural indigenous communities: A cross-sectional study in Sarawak, Malaysia.

This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) among Dayak communities in Malaysia, shedding light on an underexplored population. A cross-sectional study was undertaken among Dayak villagers in Sarawak aged 18 years and above using an interview-based questionnaire, followed by an anthropometric measurement, a blood test and an abdominal ultrasound. A total of 324 participants met the inclusion criteria. Among them, 42.9% were men, and the mean age was 49.85±14.9 years. The prevalence of NAFLD was substantially high at 58%, with 43.1% of the participants having mild fatty liver (grade 1). NAFLD was closely associated with waist circumference and body mass index (BMI) (P<0.001). Central obesity, as indicated by waist circumference and BMI, emerged as a potent risk factor, with higher values correlating with an increased likelihood of NAFLD. A higher prevalence of NAFLD was observed in the participants with an advancing age, an elevated triglyceride level (66.7%) and a lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level (81.6%). However, these associations did not remain significant in the multivariate analysis. Gallstones, which share common risk factors with NAFLD, were not significantly associated with NAFLD in this population (P=0.853). This study defines the prevalence and association of NAFLD with sociodemographic characteristics, health profiles and gallstone disease among indigenous villages in Dayak communities. A high BMI and central obesity are found to be independent risk factors of NAFLD.

Liberica coffee (Coffee liberica Var.) is known as a typical peatland coffee because of its ability to adapt to peat soils compared to other types of coffee. The bajakah tampala plant (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk) is a plant from the genus Spatholobus. The roots of the bajakah tampala are used empirically as medicine by the Dayak community. Based on hereditary experience, boiled water from bajakah tampala root can be used as a medicine for stomach pain, diarrhea, and dysentery. This plant contains phenolics, flavonoids, tannins and saponins so bajakah tampala can be used as herbal medicine. Until now, the active compound content of the combination of Liberica coffee and bajakah tampala root is unknown. Thus, this research aims to determine the bioactive content of Liberica coffee and bajakah tampala roots. This research was conducted using two factorials, Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), where Factor 1, consists of Liberica coffee powder concentrations, and Factor 2 consists of bajakah tampala powder concentrations. Each factor had 3 levels. Bajakah tampala roots were sorted, washed, cut into small pieces, oven-dried at 50°C for 6 hours, ground, sieved using an 80 mesh, then weighed and ready to be used as an herbal coffee additive. Bajakah tampala was oven-dried at 50°C for 6 hours, ground, sifted, then mixed with Liberica coffee powder according to treatment groups (L1, L2, L3 and B1, B2, B3) for 9 combination treatments with 3 repetitions. Analysis of bioactive compounds in this research was determined using GC-MS. The analysis results show that 8 main components seen based on retention time, namely caffeine, hexadecanoic acid, palmitic acid, hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester, octadec-9-enoic acid, octadecanoic acid, stearic acid, octadeca-9,12-dienoic acid methyl, 9,12-octadecadienoic acid (Z, Z)-Lino and ethyl linoleate. Language games in the Dayak tribe: a study of meaning and language structure

This study examines the dynamics of language use, particularly the Dayak Maanyan language in Kalimantan, using the framework of language games in Wittgenstein's philosophy of language. This study focuses on analyzing the orientation of thought in the use of the Dayak Maanyan language, outlining the rules of games in its expressions, and evaluating the compatibility of Wittgenstein's concept of language games with the Dayak Maanyan language. Utilizing a qualitative approach through literature studies, data were collected from various relevant scientific publications on the Dayak language and culture, as well as Wittgenstein's theory of language games. The findings reveal that the Dayak Maanyan language, through its diverse dialects and communicative practices, serves not only as a tool for communication, but also as a medium for strengthening social identity and preserving cultural traditions. This language reflects the cultural values and social structures of the Dayak community, in which the meaning of language emerges from its contextual use in daily life and specific social practices. These results align with Wittgenstein's philosophical concept, which emphasizes that meaning arises from use. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationship between language, meaning, and social practices in multicultural societies, particularly in the Dayak community.

This study explores the role of media in promoting tourism, particularly in Pampang Village, a rural area in East Kalimantan known for its rich Dayak culture. The village is a prominent cultural tourism destination, where media, especially social media, plays a vital role in attracting tourists by highlighting its cultural and natural beauty. A qualitative descriptive method was employed to understand how media influences tourists' interests. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with tourists, direct observation of media content used for promotion, and content analysis of various media platforms. The Diffusion of Innovation theory served as the theoretical framework to analyze the spread of information about Pampang Village through social media. The study found that social media significantly enhances the visibility and appeal of Pampang Village by showcasing its unique cultural heritage. Tourists are attracted to the village through engaging content, including photos, videos, and stories that emphasize the Dayak community's traditions. Social media also facilitates direct communication between potential tourists and the village, fostering a stronger connection and personalized experience. However, challenges such as content sustainability and competition with other tourist destinations were identified. Media, particularly digital platforms, plays a crucial role in promoting Pampang Village as a cultural tourism destination. It helps build a positive image, facilitates interaction between tourists and the village, and increases tourist engagement. The findings suggest that with effective use of media, Pampang Village can enhance its tourism appeal and contribute to the local economy.

The Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome and its Components among Ethnic Dayak Community in Sarawak

Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a condition that includes a cluster of risk factors, which will lead to increase risk of cardiovascular diseases. Global increase in MetS is likely to affect Malaysia as well, however there is a scarcity of data on MetS among Malaysians. Ethnicity plays a vital role on prevalence and incidence of MetS across different ethnic groups. This is important especially in a multi-ethnic country like Malaysia. However, two most notable studies on MetS across different ethic groups in Malaysia were about a decade ago in 2012 and 2016. The objective of this study is to ascertain the prevalence of MetS among the Dayak communities and the risk factors affiliated with it, and hopefully will serve as a platform for future in-depth researches on MetS across different ethinc groups in Malaysia. Materials and methods: SThis is a cross sectional study that is conducted in various Dayak villages, which are located in Kuching, Semarahan and Serian District in Sarawak. Using a multi-stage sampling, we recruited 353 respondents aged between 18 to 88 years old. Data was collected using questionnaires, blood samples, blood pressure monitor and anthropometric measurements. Descriptive test, chi-square test and logistic regression were conducted to analyse all the available datas. All datas are analyzed using SPSS version 25. Results: A total of 34.6% of the respondents fulfilled the criteria of MetS. Elevated triglyceride (TG) is the strongest predictor of MetS among the five components of MetS in our study population. The prevalence for the components of MetS is as follow: elevated fasting glucose (66.2%), high blood pressure (50.4%), elevated triglycerides (47.3%), central obesity (20.9%) and for low HDL-cholesterol (18.9%). Body mass index and waist-to-hip ratio were identified as the most important risk factors in the MetS prediction models for this population.Higher education level and higher level of physical activity appear to have protective effect against MetS. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors including gender, smoking and alcohol consumption are not related with higher prevalence of MetS in Dayak communities. Conclusion: Approximately one in three ethnic Dayak in Sarawak will have metabolic syndrome in their lifetime. Targetted health education particularly among communities with lower education levels as well as incorporating culturally sensitive and community based interventions can be effective in managing MetS.

A Model of Natural Resources Conflict Resolution in Kalimantan Tengah Using The Dayak Hinting Pali Custom Ritual

As a result of neglecting environmental damage and other impacts, of course, this has created conflicts over natural resources between indigenous Dayak communities and companies operating in Central Kalimantan. In dealing with environmental disputes, the community continues to look for a way out through various settlement efforts made in the context of fighting for community justice and environmental justice. One of the alternatives used by the Dayak customary law community in Central Kalimantan when the law or formal process is constrained or stalled in dealing with conflicts between the community and the company is by empowering the Hinting Pali. This research is legal research using a conceptual approach. The legal materials used were secondary and tertiary legal materials which were analyzed using an analytical description. Based on the results of the research, the meaning and essence of Hinting Pali are based on the perspective of kaharingan religious rituals (such as hintingidentical to the Tiwah traditional ceremony) and based on the point of view of hinting as an effort to defend land rights for indigenous Dayak people, hinting has experienced a change in meaning to the era of penetration of oil palm plantations in Central Kalimantan. The Dayak customary ritual Hinting Pali empirically in Central Kalimantan is used as an alternative model for resolving natural resource conflicts. Several cases of conflict between the community and the company have used hinting pal as a means for the company to comply and resolve the problem with the community. From the explanation above, it can be concluded that empirically the Dayak Hinting Pali in Central Kalimantan is used as an alternative model of conflict resolution involving land, natural resources, and customary forests.
