Current Trends for the Development of Educational Programs in Information and Document Studies in Ukraine

The purpose of the study is to analyze trends, challenges, and prospects in the development of modern educational programs (EPs) of an information and documentation profile in Ukraine and abroad. It examines the existing challenges faced by higher education institutions (HEIs) in Ukraine within the information society context, with particular focus on comparing master’s degree programs across Ukrainian, American and Canadian universities. The methodology. The research provides comparative analysis of educational programs in the specialty 029 “Information, Library and Archival Affairs” using Kharkiv State Academy of Culture (KSAC) as a primary case study. The methodology includes: content analysis of bachelor’s and master’s programs’ professional competencies and learning outcomes; quantitative and qualitative analysis of master’s program titles across Ukrainian HEIs based on 2024 admission campaign data; comparative assessment of target, content, and formal aspects of similar programs in American and Canadian universities; analysis of selective course systems and practical-experimental training approaches. The results. The study identifies important distinctions between the educational approaches of North America and Ukraine in the areas of: the flexibility of elective courses in American universities in comparison to their Ukrainian counterparts; the greater focus on information technology and hands-on training in foreign educational programs; the current status and nomenclature of Ukrainian master’s programs in specialty 029; and specific professional competencies and learning outcomes in bachelor’s and master’s programs designed to improve information technology education. The scientific novelty. The research provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of information- and document-oriented educational programs across different countries, identifying key challenges in the Ukrainian educational system amid digital transformation. It offers an original assessment of current trends in professional training for information specialists and establishes a basis for educational program development that aligns with global standards while addressing local needs. The practical significance. The findings present distinct viewpoints for the development of information- and document-oriented educational programs in Ukraine that focus on: expanding the use and application of contemporary digital technologies; improving students’ hands-on training; establishing a top-notch, competitive information science education system; and resolving identified barriers to achieving the full potential of digital educational programs in Ukrainian higher education institutions. The research provides valuable insights for educational administrators, curriculum developers, and policy makers seeking to improve the quality and competitiveness of information science education in Ukraine.

Alien Stramenopilous Fungus-like Organisms (Oomycota) Diversity and Distribution in Lithuania

This paper provides data on non-native fungus-like organisms (Oomycota, kingdom Stramenopila), their diversity, and distribution in Lithuania and is an addition to a previously published checklist of alien true fungi (Chytridiomycota, Ascomycota, and Basidiomycota; kingdom Fungi). All available published data were summarized, and the analysis showed that approximately 25% of recorded Lithuania stramenopilous fungus-like organism species are alien. The compiled list represented herein includes 54 species of alien terrestrial and aquatic stramenopilous fungus-like organisms (Oomycota). Most alien Oomycota are obligate pathogens of terrestrial plants. Aquatic organisms are represented by one alien dangerous crayfish pathogen, Aphanomyces astaci, which is currently noted as extinct in Lithuania. The taxonomy of the listed alien species of Oomycota has been revised, and the species names have been adjusted to reflect current nomenclature changes. The taxonomical and ecological analysis demonstrated the prevalence of terrestrial parasitic Peronosporales reported in Lithuania Oomycota and the highest diversity of alien species belonging to the Peronospora genus. The chronology of appearance, distribution within the country, and current status of these non-native organisms were assessed, and some of the most economically or ecologically important harmful invasive species were discussed.

A retrospective study of benign epithelial salivary gland neoplasia in 11 dogs and 5 cats.

Benign salivary gland neoplasms are infrequent in dogs and cats. The available literature is scarce, relying on scattered case series and case reports. The histologic subclassification of these neoplasms in humans is correlated with tumor outcome and is used as a template for the veterinary species. To better describe the clinical and histologic features of these benign epithelial tumors in dogs and cats, we performed a retrospective multi-institutional study and retrieved 16 benign epithelial salivary neoplasms from 11 dogs and 5 cats. In dogs, the sex distribution was 7 castrated males, 3 spayed females, and 1 intact female. The average age at diagnosis was 10.4 y (range: 4-15 y; ±3.0 SD). The diagnoses were canalicular adenoma (5 cases), pleomorphic adenoma (3 cases), cystadenoma (2 cases), and basal cell adenoma (1 case). In cats, the sex distribution was 4 spayed females and 1 castrated male. The average age at diagnosis was 11 y (range: 7-18 y; ±4.6 SD). Diagnoses were canalicular adenoma (4 cases) and cystadenoma (1 case). The diagnostic pathologist should be familiar with the current veterinary and human nomenclature of these neoplasms to make an accurate diagnosis.

Improving Influenza Nomenclature Based on Transmission Dynamics.

Influenza A viruses (IAVs) evolve rapidly, exhibit zoonotic potential, and frequently adapt to new hosts, often establishing long-term reservoirs. Despite advancements in genetic sequencing and phylogenetic classification, current influenza nomenclature systems remain static, failing to capture evolving epidemiological patterns. This rigidity has led to delays or misinterpretations in public health responses, economic disruptions, and confusion in scientific communication. The existing nomenclature does not adequately reflect real-time transmission dynamics or host adaptations, limiting its usefulness for public health management. The 2009 H1N1 pandemic exemplified these limitations, as it was mischaracterized as "swine flu" despite sustained human-to-human transmission and no direct pig-to-human transmission reported. This review proposes a real-time, transmission-informed nomenclature system that prioritizes host adaptation and sustained transmissibility (R0 > 1) to align influenza classification with epidemiological realities and risk management. Through case studies of H1N1pdm09, H5N1, and H7N9, alongside a historical overview of influenza naming, we demonstrate the advantages of integrating transmission dynamics into naming conventions. Adopting a real-time, transmission-informed approach will improve pandemic preparedness, strengthen global surveillance, and enhance influenza classification for scientists, policymakers, and public health agencies.

РЕЗУЛЬТАТЫ САМООЦЕНКИ ДЕЯТЕЛЬНОСТИ ГЛАВНЫХ ВНЕШТАТНЫХ СПЕЦИАЛИСТОВ РЕГИОНАЛЬНОГО МИНИСТЕРСТВА ЗДРАВООХРАНЕНИЯ

The regulatory document “On the main freelance specialists of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation” approves 22 functions, 95.5% of which are related to the organization of medical care to the population. The current nomenclature of chief freelance specialists of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation includes 96 specialists in the medical profile or nosology. Materials and methods. The study was conducted in a medical organization where the bulk of the regional chief freelance specialists are concentrated. The sample size was 50 people. The survey was carried out in two stages using a specially developed author's questionnaire within the framework of the regional project 2023-2024. The questionnaire included 4 blocks of questions, including a general individual and personal characteristic of the main freelance specialist, a block of questions related to communications at work, an organizational block of questions and a medical-statistical one. In the statistical processing of the material, descriptive statistics were used using the STATISTICA 6.0 program. Results. A medical and social portrait of the regional chief freelance specialist was obtained: work experience in the position is at least 4 years, in the specialty profile for at least 10 years; presence of the highest qualification category (92%). The majority of respondents indicate active participation in conferences and scientific and educational events of relevant specialties (82%). They consider themselves more managers and health care organizers. Most of them (86%) occupy management positions, mainly deputy chief physicians, heads of structural divisions (centers, departments). Assessing their activities over the course of a year, the GVS, on average, carries out on-site visits to other medical organizations 4 times, most often in rural areas remote from the regional center (90%). Conclusions. The results of the study indicate the need to train chief freelance specialists within the framework of healthcare management activities and create a structural unit of a medical organization with the development of its own tools for their activities.

Lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei: A unique presentation with extrafacial involvement.

Lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei is a rare papular eruption primarily affecting the face, but extrafacial involvement can occur, which poses diagnostic challenges. We present a young woman with both facial and axillary involvement of lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei and review the literature to highlight less common extrafacial locations. Despite its rarity, lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei should be considered in the differential diagnosis of persistent papular eruptions. Histopathologic confirmation is essential, particularly in cases lacking facial involvement. Early recognition and treatment can minimize scarring, but a uniformly successful treatment option is lacking. Our report emphasizes the importance of biopsy to establish a diagnosis, especially in the absence of facial involvement given the misleading nature of the current nomenclature.

Fossil or Non-Fossil: A Case Study in the Archaeological Wheat Triticum parvicoccum (Poaceae: Triticeae).

The archaeobotanical taxon "Triticum parvicoccum" was first described in 1980 as a small-grained, naked, free-threshing, and dense ear tetraploid wheat species (2n = 4x = 28) identified from archaeological remains. This primitive tetraploid, cultivated in the Levant approximately 9000 years ago and subsequently dispersed throughout the Fertile Crescent, represents a potential contributor of the BBAA genomes to T. aestivum. This study aims to resolve the complex nomenclatural status of this taxon, which has remained ambiguous due to competing interpretations under fossil and non-fossil taxonomic regulations. We conducted a comprehensive nomenclatural review to evaluate the taxonomic validity of T. parvicoccum, analyzing previous research on the classification of archaeobotanical materials in relation to fossil status. Our analysis demonstrated that archaeobotanical materials do not qualify as fossils and led to the validation of the taxon at a subspecific rank as a non-fossil entity: T. turgidum subsp. parvicoccum Kislev. subsp. nov. The holotype was established using a charred rachis fragment from Timnah (Tel Batash), an archaeological site on the inner Coastal Plain (Shfela) adjacent to the western piedmont of the Judean Mountains, Israel. This study resolves the longstanding nomenclatural uncertainty surrounding this archaeologically significant wheat taxon, providing a valid taxonomic designation that reflects its biological and historical importance while adhering to current botanical nomenclature standards.

Protocol on a systematic review of nomenclature and outcomes in children with complex critical illness in Paediatric Critical Care: The basis for consensus definition.

Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) supports the recovery of children with severe illness. In the UK, there are 30 PCC units with a total of approximately 400 beds. There is constant demand for these beds with a mean five-day length of stay and admissions increasing at a greater rate than age-specific population growth. Prolonged stay patients account for approximately half of all PCC patient bed days. Children with complex critical illness (CCI) need input from multiple different teams alongside support for their family. CCI often become prolonged PCC-stay patients too. Internationally, there is variation in the definition of CCI, this creates service variation and tensions around what resources can be provided including discharge planning, provision, and support. Objective: The face of Paediatric Critical Care, in the UK and internationally has changed over the last ten years with a growing cohort of complex critically ill patients. This systematic review aims to look at current nomenclature, criteria, and outcome measures of priority in this undefined patient population. Inclusion criteria: All types of studies examining children with complex critical illness (age <18 years) admitted to any paediatric critical care. The review is registered on Prospero. Medline, Embase, Maternity and Infant care, The Cochrane Library, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and the Trip database will be searched from 2014 to May 2024. The search was limited to ten years as children with complex critical illness are a relatively new concept within PCC. Therefore, the timeline was limited to increase the accuracy and applicability of the review. Search limits included all languages, excluded the setting of neonatal intensive care, and age>18 years old. The final search strategy was developed in Medline and peer-reviewed by a health research librarian not involved in the study. This was translated to other databases as appropriate. Four independent reviewers will screen citations for eligible studies and perform data extraction. A systematic review methodology has been used to develop a broad understanding of the literature which will be used to develop further work in this area. Using a rigorous and stepwise approach, the whole spectrum of scientific publications on children with complex critical illness in paediatric intensive care will be reviewed, ensuring this study is as comprehensive as possible. This includes quantitative, qualitative, theoretical, and grey literature. A limitation of this systematic review is the use of many terms to describe children with complex critical illness in the literature resulting in a high number of publications on this topic.

Gender in mineral names

Abstract Minerals are the fundamental constituents of Earth, and mineral names appear in scientific literature for disciplines including geology, chemistry, materials science, biology, and medicine, among others. Choosing a name is the full responsibility of the authors of new mineral proposals submitted to the International Mineralogical Association (IMA). Scientific nomenclature and its traditions have evolved over time, and consequently, mineral names track changes in the landscape of mineralogy with respect to language, technology, and culture. To evaluate these changes, the namesake information for all 5896 minerals approved by the IMA or “grandfathered” into use as of December 2022 was recorded and categorized within a workable database. The compiled information yields diverse insights into the intersection of science and culture and could also be used to project future trends. In this study, we used the name database to investigate gender diversity among mineral eponyms. More than half (ca. 54%) of all mineral species are named after people, the identities of whom are largely a reflection of the people that have historically been involved, in one way or another, in the geosciences and the mining industry. Of the 2738 people with minerals named for them, ∼6.1% are (interpreted to be) women. Nearly all minerals named for women were named during the last 60 years, although the growth rate in the year-on-year percentage of women among new mineral namesakes has slowed since about 1985. If current and historical trends hold, our model predicts that women will not comprise more than about 10.35% of newly established mineral namesakes in future years. The representation of women among mineral namesakes also differs starkly among countries. For example, Russians comprise 43.11% of women with minerals named for them but account for only 15.12% of all eponyms. However, there are additional disparities beyond the proportions of namesakes. For scientists who were alive when a mineral was named for them, women averaged 3.74 years older than men when evaluated over the same timespan (1954–2022). These results demonstrate that gender-based disparities are imprinted into current mineral nomenclature and indicate that gender parity among new mineral namesakes is impossible without unprecedented changes in the upstream demographics that are most likely to affect naming trends.

Molecular Markers for the Phylogenetic Reconstruction of Trypanosoma cruzi: A Quantitative Review.

Trypanosoma cruzi is the parasite responsible for Chagas disease, which has a significant amount of genetic diversification among the species complex. Many efforts are routinely made to characterize the genetic lineages of T. cruzi circulating in a particular geographic area. However, the genetic loci used to typify the genetic lineages of T. cruzi have not been consistent between studies. We report a quantitative analysis of the phylogenetic power that is acquired from the commonly used genetic loci that are employed for the typification of T. cruzi into its current taxonomic nomenclature. Based on three quantitative criteria (the number of phylogenetic informative characters, number of available reference sequences in public repositories, and accessibility to DNA sequences for their use as outgroup sequences), we examine and discuss the most appropriate genetic loci for the genetic typification of T. cruzi. Although the mini-exon gene is by far the locus that has been most widely used, it is not the most appropriate marker for the typification of T. cruzi based on the construction of a resolved phylogenetic tree. Overall, the mitochondrial COII-NDI locus stands out as the best molecular marker for this purpose, followed by the Cytochrome b and the Lathosterol oxidase genes.

The tibiofibular mortise - anatomical controversies and their clinical importance: a historical and pictorial essay.

During 280 years of studies of the anatomy of the distal tibiofibular articulation, there have arisen many unclear issues regarding the description of individual structures and their terminology. These historical inaccuracies were subsequently reflected in the clinical practice. A literature search of original publications and historical sources was performed. The distal tibiofibular articulation is a synovial joint, rather than a syndesmosis, as it is an integral part of the ankle joint. The interosseous tibiofibular ligament (ITFL), described for the first time by a French anatomist Bichat in 1801, is the strongest ligament of the tibiofibular mortise. Unfortunately, this clinically important ligament is not recognized by the current international anatomical nomenclature. The terms anterior inferior (AITFL) and posterior inferior tibiofibular ligaments (PITFL) are historical remnants "reimported" from the American/British literature and should not be used, because the analogous superior ligaments do not exist. The intermalleolar ligament, first described by Weitbrecht in 1742, is a variable, but constant, structure reinforcing the posterior capsule of the ankle joint. The term inferior transverse ligament (IFT) denoting in the English literature the inferior part of the posterior tibiofibular ligament was originally used for the intermalleolar ligament. The IFT ligament is a part of the posterior tibiofibular ligament and there is no reason to stress its importance. The chaos in the anatomy, terminology and depiction of the articulation of the distal tibia and fibula, unparalleled in any other joint of the human body, is the result of historical development. A certain negative role was, in this respect, played also by Basiliensia Nomina Anatomica (1895), that eradicated ITFL and called the distal tibiofibular joint a syndesmosis.

Cardiorenal, Renocardiac, and Reno-CardioCardiac Syndromes: An Updated Review on General Definitions, Pathophysiology, and Therapies (Part 1)

Background: Acute and chronic heart or kidney failure affect each other in cardiorenal syndromes (CRS). In CRS, hemodynamic and non-hemodynamic changes occur, causing acute or progressive renal and cardiac failures. CRS is classified into five types based on the first organ failure and causes failure of the other organ. We believe that the current CRS classification is not the correct one that effectively describes the underlying cause of CRS. Hence, we consider it better to be classified into three categories (cardiorenal, renocardiac, and cardio-reno-cardiac syndrome) and then subdivided into acute and chronic types or types 1 and 2 (respectively, according to the onset of the underlying type of failure (i.e., acute or chronic). Other subtypes that occur inthe heart and dysfunction occur simultaneously are acute cardio-reno-cardiac syndrome (type 5) and Chronic cardio-reno-cardiac syndrome (type 6). Aim: In Part 1 of the review series, the pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical and therapeutic applications of all types of CRS will be narratively discussed and updated. Furthermore, we provide a comprehensive review of diagnostic biomarkers and their clinical significance in the identification, outcome prediction, and treatment of all CRS types. Method: An extensive search of PubMed, Google, EMBASE, Scopus, and Google Scholar was conducted for review articles, original articles, and commentaries published between Jan 2010 and Aug 2024 using different phrases, texts, and keywords, such as CRS, renocardiac syndrome, and CRS. The topics included secondary CRS, CRS pathogenesis, CRS therapy, SLGT inhibitor use in CRS, novel therapy in CRS types, and prevention of CRSs. Conclusion: Renal and cardiac failure in patients with CRS seem to have different pathophysiological mechanisms. Early detection and treatment can improve the outcomes of CRS. Clinical manifestations and therapy protocols vary according to pathophysiology. Hence, new guidelines and research on universal diagnostic and treatment techniques are urgently required. Moreover, the current nomenclature for CRS is confusing; therefore, we believe that a new nomenclature system should be introduced, reducing confusion and making differentiation between CRS types easier and less confusing.

A forgotten debate in the history of medicine: vascular anastomoses, from open functional relationships to tight structural connections

According to current anatomical nomenclature, vascular anastomoses are direct connections between blood vessels. The Greek word ‘anastomōsis’ means ‘opening’ and conveys the idea of ‘patency’ rather than ‘connection’. Anastomōsis, and the related term sunanastomōsis, originally referred to a mere approximation of the mouths of adjacent blood vessels – especially arterioles and venules – facing each other at their terminal ends. These vessels were not strictly connected and did not form anatomical units in the proper sense. Over time, however, the term anastomōsis underwent a significant semantic change and now denotes a closed, structured anatomical connection. How and when did this semantic shift occur? The aim of the present study was to evaluate the concept of anastomōsis in different historical periods from Antiquity to the Seventeenth century and to investigate how this entity gradually lost its original meaning of mere functional opening to acquire the notion of true anatomical structure.

Sex-Specific HLA Alleles Contribute to the Modulation of COVID-19 Severity.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, responsible for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), exhibits a spectrum of clinical manifestations, ranging from asymptomatic to severe pulmonary dysfunction or death. The variability in COVID-19 severity has largely been attributed to the host's genetic characteristics, suggesting a polygenic genetic architecture, without significant strong evidence of sex-related genetic differences. In this Italian retrospective case-control study, we investigated the association between COVID-19 severity (severe vs. asymptomatic/oligosymptomatic healed individuals) and HLA gene variants, analyzed by next-generation sequencing (NGS). We identified significant HLA alleles (according to the conventional nomenclature), SNPs and haplotypes in the HLA-B, -C, -F, -DQA1, -DRB1, and -DRB5 genes associated with COVID-19 severity. Interestingly, these variants showed biological sex-related effects. Also, we identified specific haplotypes associated with COVID-19 severity that are shared by different conventional HLA alleles, indicated here as "super-haplotypes". These haplotypes had a biological sex-specific impact on disease severity and markedly increased the risk of severe COVID-19 compared to the conventional HLA alleles (odds ratio of up to 15). Our data suggest that the revision of the current HLA nomenclature may help to identify variants with a stronger effect on disease susceptibility and that association studies could benefit from the stratification of patients by biological sex. If replicated in other disease models, these findings could help to define the functional diversity in immune response between sexes, also based on the HLA system. Finally, due to the global pandemic's mortality rate, we hypothesize here that SARS-CoV-2 may have acted as a natural selection trigger, leading to a drift in HLA allelic frequencies in the general population.

Pathogenesis and pathological anatomy of chlamydial infections

The review presents modern view on the global problem of chlamydial infections. Current nomenclature of chlamydiae was adduced. Epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of chlamydiosis received full coverage. The potential involvement of chlamydiae in the progression of various infectious and somatic diseases was revealed. Special attention was paid to pathomorphological alterations in human tissues, which develop during primary infection with chlamydia as well as during chronic infection. Key problems were demonstrated: underestimation of prevalence of chlamydiae among humans in worldwide clinical practice, the difficulty of detection of extragenital chlamydiosis, the lack of effective methods for diagnosis and treatment of persistent forms, the paucity of descriptions of pathomorphological picture of human chlamydiosis, the absence of specific prevention of infection.

An updated method for identifying the formative factors in soil structure

Abstract Soil structure is a standard component of pedon descriptions collected to characterize the nature and function of soils as a natural body. Soil structure is an important indicator of soil development and a predictor of water, air, and root movement throughout the profile. However, inconsistencies exist within the current standardized methodologies used to describe soil structure in the field, making soil structure data difficult to use and often confusing to students encountering these concepts for the first time. Therefore, we propose an updated method of soil structure description to add an interpretive component that clearly distinguishes geogenic, pedogenic, and human‐induced structures. This method employs terminology that communicates both observable morphology and the mechanism of formation. The updated method herein differentiates three classes of structure: (a) geogenic structural formation (GS), (b) natural pedological structural formation (current nomenclature), and (c) significant human‐induced structure changes from natural pedological structure. This updated approach improves the documentation of scientifically relevant soil morphology and communicates the processes involved in the formation of all forms of soil structure. As a result, this change eases description challenges around soil structure and interpretations common in soil science classes, including soil judging.

ЩОДО ОДНОГО ПІДХОДУ ДО ВИРІШЕННЯ ПИТАННЯ АВТОМАТИЗОВАНОГО БУДУВАННЯ СХЕМИ ПОСИЛАНЬ РЕЛЯЦІЙНИХ БАЗ ДАНИХ

Introduction. The current trend of continuous integration of various areas of scientific and practical human activity contributes to the constant increase in the complexity of problems, the successful solution of which becomes possible only through the use of large volumes of information, as a rule, geographically distributed across multiple database files. In this case, the need to know the locations and features of the interaction of its components becomes of fundamental importance when organizing the most convenient and efficient ways to access it. In some cases, to meet such needs, you can use the services of existing products (Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, FileMaker Pro, Oracle Database, dBASE, etc.). Sometimes, using a specialized SQL language or its dialects, it is more convenient to create a “handmade” one that will satisfy the stated requirements. If the user desires or needs to know the location of the information used in the work, understand the logic of the mechanism for obtaining it, and evaluate the effectiveness of the ways of its delivery to constantly monitor its current and future nomenclature and quantity, its developments can help, which can provide more detailed information, than known means. As experience shows, obtaining an integral and effective solution to this set of closely interrelated issues becomes possible only with the availability of a purely specialized software tool for the automated construction of link diagrams, which is a multifunctional, operational, easy-to-learn, and easy-to-use user environment. Endowed with the ability at any time and with minimal user participation to visualize on the screen the current structure of the created database with the required degree of clarity, detail, and ease of perception, such an environment should become a means of operational analysis and assessment of ways of possible modification of the database itself in the direction of creating a more effective one in practical terms, regarding the variant of its structure. Purpose. Research and practical testing of the existing capabilities of approaches, methods, algorithms, and software modules that were developed during the creation of a universal information software technology for working with undirected graphs of the “mixed forest” type. To evaluate the efficiency and feasibility of using these approaches to improve a set of integrated software tools for the automated construction of relational database link diagrams with minimal user participation in this process. Methods. Database systems, apparatus of graph-tree theory. Result. A new approach is proposed, and the result of its software implementation is presented in the form of a “pilot” version of a set of software tools for the automated construction of relational database link schemes. The basis of the approach is techniques, methods, algorithms, etc. which were created and implemented programmatically in a new, universal information software technology for working with (temporarily) undirected graphs of the “sour cream forest” type. , Software package (SP) makes “formal” the user’s participation in the process of building link diagrams. By greatly reducing the time required for this and providing more than 90% savings in the technical resources of the computer used, SP makes it possible to take into account data tables, the total number of fields of which is limited only by the latter’s capabilities. A positive conclusion about the suitability of such an approach will become an incentive for its further improvement in the form of specialized information software technology as an effective means of solving the problems of constructing relational database link schemes.

Predictive factors for MASLD in type 2 diabetes: 1 year follow-up study

It has been proposed the current nomenclature for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) as a general term to encompass the various etiologies of steatosis and to include the presence of at least 1 of 5 cardiometabolic risk factors. To evaluate the predictors of the incidence of MASLD in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in primary care at a one-year follow-up. Prospective cohort study including patients (n = 5143) with ≤ 15 years from diagnosis of T2D, treated at primary care units in Mexico City and metropolitan area. At baseline and at one-year follow-up were measured: anthropometry, HbA1c, microalbuminuria, creatinine, lipid profile and hepatic markers aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Hepatic Steatosis Index (HSI) and Lipidic Accumulation Product (LAP) were calculated. MASLD was considered as cases with abnormal ALT. At baseline, 1449 (28.2%) patients presented MASLD. The HSI and LAP indices were higher in MASLD. Age at diagnosis and time of exposure to T2D were inversely associated with MASLD, and directly proportional to body mass index, waist circumference (WC) and HbA1c. Of the cases with MASLD at baseline, 452 (38.8%) reverted to normal and 712 (61.2%) persisted after follow-up. ORs for MASLD were 1.86 and 1.88 for HbA1c and WC, respectively. The combination of HSI, LAP and screening with HbA1c and WC are useful to identify MASLD in patients with T2D.
