A new current feedback op-amp (CFOA)-based configuration is presented, which is capable of realising all the five generic filter functions, namely, low pass, band pass, high pass, notch and all pass, in voltage mode (VM) as well as as well in current mode (CM), from the same topology and therefore, can be called an universalVM/CMbiquad. The circuit offers the facility of independent/orthogonal adjustment of the various parameters of the realised filters in both VM and CM and has very low passive and active sensitivities. The parasitic capacitances at the compensation pins of the CFOAs can be either directly accommodated in the design (as parts of the external capacitances) or their effect can be compensated for (through the proposed method). The workability and the various features of the proposed configuration have been confirmed by SPICE simulations based upon AD844 type CFOAs.
