Analysis of the Implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum Teaching Module Based on Problem-Based Learning in Physics Education at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Jambi

This study analyzes the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and its impact on student learning outcomes at SMA Negeri 1 Jambi. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through direct observation and analysis of learning outcomes from class XII F7 students. The results indicate a significant increase in student engagement and learning outcomes through the PBL approach, with an average score improvement of 15% compared to conventional teaching. The PBL model successfully created a collaborative learning environment that encouraged problem-solving skills development. Despite initial challenges in teacher adaptation and resource availability, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum with the PBL model showed positive effects on student motivation and conceptual understanding. This study provides empirical evidence of the effectiveness of integrating PBL into the Merdeka Curriculum to enhance the quality of learning at the senior high school level.

The Effect of STAD-Cooperative Learning Model with Concept Maps in Promoting Students’ Self-Efficacy and Conceptual Understanding of Thermochemistry

The research sought to explore how employing the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model, along with concept maps, impacts the enhancement of students' self-efficacy and grasp of thermochemistry concepts. This study employed a quasi-experimental approach using a pretest-posttest control group design. It was carried out among 127 11th-grade science students from MAN 1 Bengkulu City, chosen through cluster random sampling. The information was gathered by utilizing self-efficacy questionnaires and conceptual understanding tests and was analyzed using Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). The findings indicated that the obtained p-value was less than 0.05 (p<0.05), revealing a statistically significant difference in self-efficacy and conceptual understanding between students in the experimental and control groups. This suggests that students in the experimental group showed greater enhancements in self-efficacy and conceptual understanding when compared to those in the controlled group. Thus, These findings revealed that STAD-cooperative learning with concept maps had a better influence in enhancing self-efficacy and student conceptual understanding of thermochemistry.

Effectiveness of Thermodynamics Textbooks Assisted by Heyzine Flipbook to Improve Students' Generic Science, Critical Thinking and Conceptual Understanding

Thermodynamics as a science studie something concrete and can be proven mathematically using scientific equations that have been proven to be true, so it is not uncommon for students to think that it is difficult to understand. This is because a high level of understanding is needed to understand the concepts of thermodynamics. The aim of this research is to develop a thermodynamics textbook assisted by Heyzine flipbook which is effective in improving students’ generic science, critical thinking and conceptual understanding. This research is a development researchs (Research and Development) which uses the Thiagarajan 4D development model. The subjects in this study were 26 students of the Physics Education study program at Mataram University who took the thermodynamics course. The data in this study is in the form of product effectiveness data obtained through pre-tests and post-tests given to research subjects. The improvement in students' abilities calculated using the n-gain formula. There was an increase in student abilities after being taught with the thermodynamics textbook assisted by Heyzine flipbook according to the n-gain value of 53.31 with moderate criteria. Heyzine flipbook-assisted thermodynamics textbook is proven effective in improving students' generic science, critical thinking and conceptual understanding.

The effect of mind mapping on the level of student learning success in the Pancasila course: a study on students of the UNY English department

The quality of a nation's human resources can be measured from the learning achievements of students. Learning achievement is an indicator of student learning success and also an indicator of educator success in conducting learning. Learning success reflects the success of students in mastering learning concepts expressed by grades. One way to increase student understanding of concepts is by applying mind mapping. This study aims to determine the effect of mind mapping on the success rate of student learning in the Pancasila course. The method used in this research is Pre-Experimental with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample consisted of 36 students majoring in English literature at UNY by choosing purposive sampling. Analysis of the learning outcomes obtained shows that the value of ha is accepted which means that the effect of applying mind mapping has on student learning success in the Pancasila course. While the Gain value (the average increase as an indicator of learning success) obtained results of 0.33 in the medium category. The implication of this research is as a source of information or a reference for educators that the application of mind mapping in learning can increase learning success.

Enhancing Students' Conceptual Understanding of Newton Law with Conceptual Problem Solving Learning: An Experimental Study

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Conceptual Problem Solving-based learning in improving student conceptual understanding of Newtonian mechanics. The quasi-experimental method with a nonrandomized control group pretest-posttest design was used to compare students conceptual in the experimental and control class. The subjects in this study were 69 first-year students of the Physics Education study program at one of the state universities in Yogyakarta. Force Concept inventories are used to assess students conceptual understanding of Newtonian mechanics. The findings revealed that there was significant difference in the increase in students conceptual understanding between the experimental and control groups. The increase in conceptual mismatch in experimental class students using CPS learning was higher (N-gain = 0.33) compared to control class students using direct instruction learning (N-gain = 0.11), although both groups experienced an increase. This study provides a real picture that the CPS technique can be used as a more successful strategy to improve the quality of physics learning, especially in improving knowledge of basic topics that are often difficult for students to understand, one of which is Newton's Law.

A Comparative Study of PJBL-STEM Learning Models: Analyzing Similarities and Differences Between Two Research Articles. This study aimed to compare two research studies that focused on the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with STEM in enhancing students' critical thinking, conceptual understanding, and creativity. The research employed a qualitative methodology, specifically content analysis, with data gathered through a literature review. Articles were selected based on specific criteria, including the accreditation ranking of the publishing journal, relevance to the topic, and citation impact. Data was collected using Google Scholar and Publish or Perish with keywords such as “Project-Based Learning” and “STEM.”. The findings reveal key similarities between the studies, notably the success of PjBL-STEM in improving students' scientific skills. However, the studies differ in their research objectives, target subjects, methodologies, and data collection instruments, highlighting varied focuses and anticipated outcomes. For instance, one study may prioritize critical thinking while another emphasizes conceptual understanding. The study concludes that integrating PjBL with STEM significantly enhances students' critical thinking, conceptual grasp, and creative problem-solving abilities. These findings demonstrate that PjBL-STEM is an effective and comprehensive educational strategy, preparing students to meet real-world challenges by developing essential scientific and creative skills.

The Effectiveness of Collaborative E-Learning-Based Learning in Reducing Student Misconceptions on Heat in East Java High Schools During Merdeka Belajar

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Collaborative E-learning-Based Learning (KABEL) to remedy student misconceptions for heat in high schools in East Java during merdeka belajar. The study used a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pre-test post-test design. The study includes a sample of 290 10th-grade students who were randomly chosen from different high schools in East Java. The data collection instrument consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, each with 3 alternative answers and open-ended reasons. The average percentage of student misconceptions was 94.67% before and 39.33% after remediation. The Mc Nemar test showed a significant improvement in student conceptual understanding after remediation, as evidenced by a chi-square value (X2) of 11.16, which exceeded the critical chi-square value (X2table) of 3.84 for a degree of freedom (df) of 1 and a significance level (α) of 5%. The obtained proportion value of 0.56 shows a moderate effectiveness of the direct instruction model with animation media in addressing student misconceptions.

Increasing Students' Activity and Understanding of Concepts in Mathematics Learning Using Lesson Study-Based PBL

This research is motivated by the lack of student learning activity that affects the understanding of student concepts in mathematics learning in class XI F 4.2 SMA Veteran 1 Sukoharjo. The importance of student activity in learning needs to be done so that learning becomes interesting and students have the curiosity to learn more deeply related to the knowledge taught by the teacher, in addition, understanding the concept is one of the important factors that supports student activity in the learning process. This study aims to improve the activity and understanding of student concepts in mathematics learning using PBL based on lesson study. The subjects in this study were 27 students of class XI F4.2 majoring in social sciences. The study results showed that using the PBL learning model based on lesson study can improve the activity and understanding of student concepts in learning. Based on the study's results, the percentage of student activity increased from pre-cycle 15% and cycle 1 by 59% then cycle 2 by 100%. This is the same as the increase in student's conceptual understanding from the pre-cycle stage with a percentage of 37%, then cycle 1 by 59% to cycle 2 by 100%, so it can be concluded that using the lesson study-based PBL learning model can increase students' activeness and conceptual understanding.

Conceptual and Procedural Understanding in the Division of Algebraic Fractions

This study investigated the correlation between conceptual and procedural understanding of the division of algebraic fractions among junior high school students at a government-run university. It utilized descriptive and correlational research designs involving 109 enrolled Grade 8 students as study respondents. A validated algebra test questionnaire was the instrument used for the division of algebraic fractions. The Pearson product-moment correlation or Pearson r was used to assess the correlation between data variables. The findings revealed that the students poorly exhibited conceptual and procedural understanding in the division of algebraic fractions. There was a strong, highly positive, significant correlation between the students’ conceptual and procedural understanding in the division of algebraic fractions, which indicated that students' conceptual understanding goes hand in hand with their procedural understanding. Therefore, the higher the level of student conceptual understanding, the higher the level of procedural understanding and vice-versa.

Analysis of Differences in Graph Interpretation Understanding of Grade X Students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Malang on Kinematics Topic Based on Gender

This study aims to analyze the conception profile of MAN 1 Malang students on the subject matter of kinematics based on gender using multiple choice tests. The type of research used is quantitative descriptive research. This research was conducted on 94 students (47 male and 47 female students) of MAN 1 Malang. Quantitative data was obtained from the score of correct answers from students when answering questions. The method used was survey method. After the validation test and reliability test, there were 20 questions categorized as valid and could be used for research. The questions that passed the test were then given to students to do in the form of a written test. The results showed that students' understanding of the concept of kinematics was categorized as very low. This is due to the average student concept understanding score of 24.04. Based on the data analysis that has been done, it is concluded that there is no difference in concept understanding between male students and female students.

Identification of Science Teacher Profiles Based on Lesson Observation Data

It is characteristic that besides other duties teacher competence management and development is becoming a part of school responsibilities. Still, school leaders lack the experience and instruments to accomplish these duties. From a teacher’s perspective competence management and development can be seen as the process of identification and implementation of professional development (PD). An effective competence management approach that is widely used in business environments is the identification of required and actual competence profiles to judge which development is needed. Such a competence management approach isn’t characteristic of school environments, still a promising perspective on how to solve challenges regarding teacher PD (TPD). TPD interventions are often criticized as being too general (“one size fits all” dominates); therefore, the search for practices on how to “tailor” PD initiatives to individual teacher needs is topical for TPD research. An effective way to personalize TPD could be the determination of TPD profiles and the design of the PD around these profiles. Person-centered approaches dominate in the identification of science teacher profiles, as surveys and tests are commonly used. Examples, of how the identification of science teacher profiles can be done using lesson observation data are missing. Science teaching is a complex process; to limit the complexity of this study, the authors focus on teaching that promotes student conceptual understanding (CU). A mixed method study was designed and conducted in a sample of 26 science teachers, who represented urban municipalities’ science teacher population. The study included science teacher lesson observation and analysis, and determination of science teacher performance regarded teaching that promotes student CU. Science teacher performance data were used to identify teachers with similar performance across the selected criteria and to create science teacher profiles. A methodology for how lesson observation data can be used to identify teacher profiles in small teacher samples is described. Six various science teacher profiles in teaching that promote student understanding were identified, characterizing the variety of science TPD needs.

Implementation of Problem-Based Learning to Improve Students' Mathematics Learning Outcomes Class X Computer and Network Engineering Vocational School

This study aims to enhance the mathematics learning outcomes of Class X students by implementing Problem-Based Learning (PBL) at SMK Negeri 1 Bengkalis. The research method employed is Classroom Action Research (PTK), involving Class X Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ) students as the research subjects. The study was conducted during the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, from August 12, 2021, to November 30, 2021, and consisted of two cycles. Each cycle included stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The findings indicate that applying PBL significantly improved students' mathematics learning outcomes, with an increase of 62.86% in Cycle I and 97.43% in Cycle II. These results demonstrate that PBL is an effective teaching model for enhancing student engagement and conceptual understanding in mathematics. Therefore, PBL can be a valuable learning paradigm to help students at SMK Negeri 1 Bengkalis study mathematics more effectively and deeply.

The impact of inquiry-based learning in a botanical garden on conceptual change in biology

ABSTRACT The results of many past studies indicate that inquiry-based learning has a considerable impact on the conceptual understanding of students. There are, however, a limited number of studies that have examined the long-term effects of inquiry-based learning on conceptual understanding among students. The purpose of this study is to determine whether an inquiry-based learning environment in botanical garden improves the conceptual understanding of biological concepts in students over the long term. Seventy-nine 9th graders participated in inquiry-based learning biology lessons in a botanical garden, while seventy-two 9th graders participated in traditional biology lessons at school. The results showed that inquiry-based learning in a botanical garden has a positive impact on the correct scientific knowledge compared to traditional teaching at school. In addition, the learning activities in a botanical garden help students to overcome the typical resistant misconceptions related to photosynthesis and respiration. Even though the number of the correct scientific answers from the students in the experimental group slightly decreased between the post-test and delayed post-test, they still outperformed the students in the regular classroom three months later. Eventually, specially designed interventions could help in the implementation of conceptual change and to alter previous misconceptions to scientifically correct concepts.

Analysis of Integrating Local Potential in Science Learning and its Effect on 21st Century Skills and Student Cultural Awareness: Literature Review

Integrating local potential in science learning is an effort to introduce culture to the younger generation by linking indigenous knowledge into scientific knowledge. This study focuses on examining research conducted in the past five years, specifically those published in SINTA 2 to 4, that delve into the integration of local potential in science learning. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a literature review of 30 articles chosen based on their classification, which explores the fusion of local potential and the unique culinary traditions of a region in science education. The results of the papers are in the form of classification for educational research in the fields of science, physics, chemistry, and biology. The results of the analysis show that the integration of local potential in science learning is combined with learning models and methods such as STEAM, Inkuriri, Discovery Learning, using PBL and PJBL models. Integration of local potential in science learning can improve 21st century skills including learning outcomes, concept understanding, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, environmental literacy and students' love for local culture and problem-solving skills. The most significant results are learning outcomes and understanding of student concepts.

The role of PHET-based virtual laboratories on primary student motivation and conceptual understanding in the Energy Transformation concepts

This research was conducted based on the importance of motivation and understanding of concepts at the elementary school level. Learning with a PhET-based virtual laboratory is an innovative approach in science education that can help visualize abstract concepts. A quantitative descriptive method was chosen for this study, with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of fourth-grade students from public primary schools in Indonesia. The instruments used in this study were observation guidelines, questionnaires, and test questions. The results showed that the implementation of PhET-based virtual laboratory learning received an average score of 97.77%, which is considered very good. Motivation after learning with the PhET-based virtual laboratory had an average score of 71%, indicating a good level. Students' conceptual understanding increased after the implementation of PhET-based virtual laboratory learning, with the average pretest score rising from 55.8% to a posttest score of 77.2%.

Comparison of the effects of PBL in 3D virtual environment and F2F on learning and spatial skills

AbstractThis study aimed to juxtapose the impacts of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) methodology implemented within a three-dimensional (3D) virtual environment against PBL in a conventional face-to-face setting, along with a control group, on students' learning performance, conceptual comprehension, and spatial aptitude. The investigation concentrated on the structure of matter within a seventh-grade science curriculum, encompassing a cohort of 79 students enrolled in the course. The study was conducted under a mixed methods experimental design and comprised three distinct groups: two experimental groups (E1; E2) and one control group (C). The instructional intervention in the E1 group involved utilizing a 3D virtual environment grounded in the problem-based learning method, whereas the E2 group underwent face-to-face instruction employing worksheets derived from problem-based learning. In contrast, the control group received traditional direct instruction from the science teacher through lectures, demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions, all focusing on the same topic. Pretests and posttests were administered to the participants before and after the experimental interventions, assessing conceptual understanding, spatial visualization, and mental rotation. Additionally, learning tasks completed by the E1 and E2 groups were evaluated using rubrics to assess learning performance. Subsequent to the post-test, individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with randomly selected students from the E1 group. The results indicated that instruction within the problem-based 3D virtual environment significantly enhanced students' learning performance, conceptual understanding, spatial visualization, and mental rotation skills compared to the other instructional conditions.

Study of the Use of Augmented Reality Technology in Improving the Learning Experience in the Classroom

The use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology in education has become an intriguing research topic in recent years. This study aims to explore the use of AR in enhancing the learning experience in classrooms. A literature review method is employed to analyze various approaches, benefits, challenges, and future prospects of AR in the educational context. Findings indicate that AR holds great potential in enhancing student engagement and conceptual understanding but faces challenges in infrastructure and teacher training. Therefore, investments in AR infrastructure development and adequate training for educators are suggested to maximize the benefits of this technology in classroom learning. Further research is also needed to explore broader applications of AR in education.

Penerapan Pembelajaran Berorientasi NoS (Nature of Science) untuk Meningkatkan Keterampilan Proses Sains dan Pemahaman Konsep Siswa

The results of observations carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Pemenang, North Lombok Regency, found that the classical completeness obtained was far from the predetermined indicators. The low student learning outcomes are thought to occur because presentations often use the lecture method and there are no practical activities because the tools for this are not available. Apart from that, in every lesson that uses the lecture method the teacher is often the center of attention and the students are only the receiving objects. So students do not have the opportunity to develop knowledge and abilities in science process skills. The NoS (Nature of Science) model invites students to be able to train students' abilities in improving problem-solving abilities so that they can improve students' science process skills and understanding of concepts. The aim of this research is to improve students' science process skills and conceptual understanding through the NoS (Nature of Science) learning model on the sub-subject of environmental pollution. This type of research is classroom action research carried out in 2 cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation, evaluation and reflection stages. Research data in the form of student learning outcomes was taken using multiple choice test techniques and descriptions. The average score obtained in cycle I was 76.07, in cycle II it increased to 80.00. While classical completeness was 67.85% in cycle I, in cycle II it increased to 85.71%. Meanwhile, the average score for students' science process skills in cycle I was 70.8 in the high category, in cycle II the average score for students' science process skills increased to 78.1 in the high category. The conclusion of this research is that NOS (Nature of Science) oriented learning can improve students' science process skills and understanding of concepts.

The Relationship between Concept Perception and Student Achievement in the Subject Area of Chemistry in Science

Science education has undergone many reforms since the past to improve the learning and teaching process. Teachers' knowledge and motivation, and teachers' teaching techniques, determine how students understand science concepts. In the journey of taking students to innovations in education, the teacher who provides science education in the classroom has a great responsibility (Research and Development Branch, 2017). It is also necessary to identify the problems faced by students in building science education. The analysis of the examination department's results and evaluation reports shows that compared to other subjects, the minimum mark is obtained for the science subject. The Sri Lanka Examination Department's 2017 G.E.C. (G.E.) evaluation report also shows that among the three fields of science, biology, chemistry, and physics, the facility for the field of chemistry is low. For this reason, it was the main interest of this research to find out the correlation between student performance and conceptual understanding of students who learn the content of the chemistry subject of the science subject. For that purpose, the size of the sample was determined using the table of determination of the sample size presented by Krejcie & Morgan (1970) and the correlational study research strategy using 400 students of 08 secondary schools in the Kegalle district of Sri Lanka selected through a cluster random sampling method as the sample. The research was conducted using a quantitative design. For this, Katerina Salta & Chryssa Tzougraki (2004) used an aptitude test set according to the Liket scale and a structured type of achievement test set according to Bloom's classification to find out the level of concept perception of 11th grade students in a school in Greece. A control test was administered to 10% of the research instrument sample. By analyzing the data collected, the research instruments were standardized. Then by giving the research equipment to the main sample, the collected data was analyzed, and conclusions were drawn from the data interpretation. Here, a positive correlation of Pearson correlation coefficient (r= + 0.720) was found between students' conceptual understanding and student achievement. It was recognized that appropriate student-centered methods should be used in the learning and teaching process as student achievement increases when students' conceptual understanding increases.
